0:00Keanu Reeves has become the Internet's
0:01crush whether he knows it or not and now
0:03you've been dubbed the Internet's
0:04boyfriend how do we feel about that Ivan
0:07what normally on the channel we cover
0:08extroverted celebrities who charm in
0:10larger obvious ways but what is amazing
0:12about Keanu aside from the fact that
0:14he's 54 and looks 34 is that he is
0:17massively popular in spite of his
0:19reclusive 'ti and more introverted
0:20nature so in this video we're going to
0:22explore why Keanu is so popular while
0:25you learn to exude incredible charisma
0:27as an introvert or even just someone who
0:29is quieter or a bit shy first off key on
0:31o often directs and redirects praise
0:34towards others when receiving awards he
0:36spends a tremendous amount of time
0:38talking about the contributions of the
0:39people around him I am NOT here without
0:43working with such talented artists and
0:47people Berwyn without all of what you
0:50did for me I would not be here so thank
0:54you I am forever grateful one reporter
0:57even jokes about how bad Keanu is at
0:59taking compliments to which he
1:00immediately launches into spreading the
1:02praise again now sometimes there's no
1:12one around to redirect praise towards so
1:14when a question arises that implies some
1:16sort of admirable trait Keano tends to
1:18deflect with humor like in this case
1:20what is your secret for always staying
1:22down-to-earth well I mean gravity to be
1:28clear there is no such thing as being
1:30too humble but sometimes low self-esteem
1:33can mask itself as humility and that
1:35makes it impossible for someone to sit
1:37in pride at their accomplishments as CS
1:39Lewis said true humility is not thinking
1:41less of yourself it is thinking of
1:43yourself less the most charismatic thing
1:46to do if you'd rather not be in the
1:47limelight for praise isn't to duck
1:49compliments entirely or to clam up when
1:51you're in that position instead give a
1:54heartfelt thank you show the
1:55complimentary that you appreciate their
1:57words and then redirect towards others
1:59that helped in that case it's not about
2:01lowering yourself instead it's about
2:03elevating others the second thing that
2:05you'll likely notice about Keanu is his
2:08zen-like presence like many introverts
2:10he speaks in quiet calming tones in
2:12Parabellum part of the
2:14that we've expanded is it's multiple
2:17people more multiple people sometimes
2:19this more calm type we'll find it hard
2:21to hold the attention of a high energy
2:23group the good news is that you can
2:25sometimes use this to your advantage
2:26without changing your style and you can
2:29do that by making the content of what
2:31you are saying mismatched that laid-back
2:33style and you do this for humorous
2:34effect so deliver a dramatic punchline
2:37in a really calm tone like this do your
2:41action as opposed to your stunt
2:43okay so I'll do some fight scenes and
2:46then John wick will get hit by a car and
2:48that's Jackson Speidel this calm
2:52attitude isn't going to exude charisma
2:54on its own though as we saw with sophie
2:55turner moments of punctuated enthusiasm
2:58are often incredibly captivating when
3:00coming from a more laid-back introverted
3:02individual a word or two in a louder
3:04tone can go a long way towards rehook in
3:07an audience that isn't paying full
3:08attention
3:09watch how Keanu does it but perhaps
3:15Kiana's most effective tool for making
3:17his calm demeanor charismatic instead of
3:19law flowery and one that you should
3:21definitely take are his enthusiastic
3:23hand motions when he's interested in the
3:25topic he's speaking about he just sticky
3:27lates like crazy he goes big he goes
3:29small and he sometimes rocks between the
3:32two one particular motion that is a
3:41favorite of Keanu is this little hand
3:43rub and he does this before going into a
3:45story that gives the impression that
3:47whatever's coming next is going to be
3:49really juicy it's a nice little trick to
3:51get people to listen to stories if you
3:53don't have that booming extroverted
3:54nature when you start now I have to say
3:57technically from a pure public speaking
3:59perspective not everything that Keanu
4:01does is ideal for instance check out
4:04this clip where Keanu speaks without
4:05looking Steven in the eye you know I
4:07worked with the second generation horse
4:09master
4:10Ted Griffith and his family and long
4:13periods of unsustained eye contact
4:15tend to break rapport when you're in
4:16conversation so I don't advise doing
4:18this purposely but it was actually this
4:21clip that unlocked one of the most
4:22interesting things I saw in Keanu as I
4:24look back over other interviews I saw
4:27that he sometimes
4:27goes into longer stretches without
4:29looking the interviewer in the eye and
4:31when he does so he usually looks down
4:33and to the right now I have to pause
4:35here to tell you a little bit about NLP
4:37according to NLP there are three primary
4:39modalities in which we represent the
4:42world in our own heads there's visual
4:44like when you see an image in your head
4:46audio hearing music and kinesthetic
4:48remembering the feel of the wind on your
4:50face for instance and people tend to
4:52prefer using one of these most of the
4:54time so when you're in a visual mode you
4:56may talk faster you're seeing pictures
4:58after all communicate and imagery and
5:00say things like I see your point rather
5:02than I hear you or I feel you when
5:05you're in an audio mode you tend to
5:06think in words you'll be more likely to
5:08engage in prolong conversation and will
5:10be more sensitive to loud or jarring
5:12noises but when you watch Keanu tell
5:14stories it's clear that he is
5:15demonstrating the more rare third
5:17modality kinesthetic he's experiencing
5:20the story through how it felt more than
5:22how it looked or how it sounded now it
5:24also matches the kinesthetic types in
5:26that he speaks more slowly gesticulates
5:28often and often words don't quite
5:30communicate what he wants to say which
5:38brings us back to the last indicator of
5:40Keanu's type and the one that I
5:42mentioned first his eyes according to
5:44NLP the area that your eyes dart to when
5:46you're thinking is indicative of the
5:48mode that you are currently in and down
5:50to the right is most commonly associated
5:51with you guessed it the kinesthetic
5:54modality now I bring all of this up for
5:56two main reasons first off because the
5:58high-level communicator can identify the
6:00style of the people around them and
6:02adjust their own to match that preferred
6:04style so paying attention to indicators
6:06is critical and if you're interested we
6:08can cover it in depth in another video
6:10but secondly Keano is so likeable
6:13partially because he embraces his
6:15kinesthetic nature which leads him to
6:17spending time doing what he loves he's
6:19passionate about motorcycles he loves to
6:21do his own stunts and even the feel of
6:23vinyl records is important to him
6:24there's so many things in life were
6:27losing a kind of materiality I have to
6:29call in your contact so if you're
6:31interested we can make a whole video on
6:32identifying people's primary modality
6:34but for the purpose of this video when
6:36you see that someone is heavily
6:38kinesthetic spend more one-on-one time
6:40with them
6:41while doing inactivity it's more
6:44effective and simply relying on
6:45conversation even if fewer words are
6:48being exchanged likewise if you're a
6:50kinesthetic type and you're looking to
6:51make more friends avoid going to dinners
6:53or cocktail parties or bars or clubs
6:55instead participate in groups that make
6:58some kind of activity the focal point
7:00around which socializing can occur now
7:03that's enough of a digression for now
7:04we've arrived at what I think is the
7:06most important thing that makes Keanu
7:08Keanu and that is his character I don't
7:11obviously know the guy but by all
7:13accounts from his colleagues he's a very
7:15generous person for instance he did this
7:17for the cast of The Matrix Reloaded he
7:19managed to secure 12 custom Harley
7:21Davidsons for each of the guys and kind
7:23of surprise the whole crew with that
7:25that may not impress you because Keanu
7:26does have a lot of money but what is
7:28certainly impressive is his generosity
7:30with his time his interactions with fans
7:33appear unrushed and he was the only
7:43person to stop on the side of the road
7:44and help Octavia Spencer when her car
7:46broke down he didn't know who she was he
7:48just decided to pull over and push her
7:50broken down car as other people sped
7:52past my car broke down at the middle of
7:55the crazy intersection at sunset and
7:57until Keanu Reeves oh I was gonna have
8:01him you know get in and I was gonna push
8:03it and he was like no no I'm gonna push
8:05you and I'm thinking oh he's gonna touch
8:06my car and that's not to mention all the
8:09other fun internet anecdotes about Keanu
8:12like the time that he hung out with a
8:13homeless guy or entertained passengers
8:15on a flight after they had to make an
8:17emergency landing and take a van to
8:18their destination through Bakersfield
8:31I think the reason that most people are
8:34not this open is not because they don't
8:36know how to be but because they're
8:37scared connecting with strangers
8:39especially those who want or need
8:41something from you can be scary but
8:43despite having more people that would
8:44love to absorb his time money and energy
8:47than almost anyone keanu has more
8:49compassion than almost anyone let's be
8:51real
8:51most people don't stop to help the
8:53person in the broken-down car or to hang
8:55out with the homeless and it's that
8:57willingness to give that makes him
8:58someone to admire even when his charisma
9:00or public speaking isn't pitch perfect
9:02so if you want to start developing
9:04character like this if you want to be
9:06more giving realize that Keanu is able
9:08to do this in large part because he has
9:10defined what doesn't matter he doesn't
9:13have any social media and where does he
9:15go to socialite parties nor does he seem
9:17to worry about stuff puppies bite his
9:19shoes in this next clip and rather than
9:20protect his fancy things he just goes
9:22with the flow
9:23I communicate alright we're good and
9:26you're eating my shoelace if you're
9:30interested in developing more of this
9:32kind of character in being more
9:33compassionate more generous and
9:34generally happier when life throws you
9:36curveballs you too will have to define
9:38what does not matter to you
9:40you can't prioritize everything the good
9:43news is that if you do decide to let go
9:45of caring about your name-brand stacked
9:47wardrobe or your follower count or your
9:49income relative to your peers you free
9:52up space for other things for the things
9:54that tend to make people truly happy
9:56your relationships the work that you are
9:58passionate about and giving back now if
10:01you do that you think of yourself less
10:03without thinking less of yourself and
10:05then you two may start dropping Zen gems
10:07like Keanu what do you think happens
10:09when we die Keanu Reaves I know that the
10:15ones who love us will miss us
10:22now as I was making this video I saw the
10:24PewDiePie also did one on Keanu and it
10:26ended like this so in the spirit of
10:28Keanu Reeves and making this video I
10:30wanted to donate all the profit that
10:32this video makes to the leukemia
10:34Research Foundation and reflecting on
10:36that and spending all week researching
10:38Tiana's generosity and kindness I was
10:40inspired to do something that I've been
10:41saving up for for a good while the plan
10:44was for this to be a birthday event in
10:46October but Keanu and then PewDiePie
10:48convinced me to not wait so in honor of
10:50Keanu generosity and to echo PewDiePie's
10:52donation we are going to be donating
10:55$100,000 to charity water and it would
10:57mean the world to us if you joined us in
10:59making a contribution as well now to be
11:01clear my donation is only possible due
11:03to you if you've watched our videos or
11:06joined charisma university you are the
11:08reason that charisma on command exists
11:10like he on who says we are not here at
11:12all without our fans and it is 100%
11:15thanks to all of you that over 3,000
11:18people have their lives transformed by
11:21getting access to clean water
11:22charity waters entire mission is to get
11:25clean water to people who don't have
11:26access to it people who might be walking
11:28miles just to have drinking water for
11:30their day who are getting sick and even
11:32dying from contaminations in dirty water
11:34so to make a dent and to do something
11:36good Ben and I set up a campaign at
11:38Charity water.org slash charisma the
11:41first hundred thousand dollars is
11:42already in there and if you're feeling
11:44inspired by Keanu or PewDiePie or us or
11:47the people whose lives you will change
11:48please consider donating $30 gives one
11:51person access to clean water for roughly
11:5310 years but truly any amount makes a
11:56difference and quite frankly caring
11:57enough to give anything is a sign that
11:59the world is in good hands again
12:01thank you I cannot believe that we have
12:04arrived at a point where a donation of
12:06this size is even fathomable for us I
12:08never thought this would be possible and
12:10we owe it all to you we're very excited
12:12to pay it forward I hope that you guys
12:15have enjoyed this video I'll see you in
12:16the next one
12:24you
