0:00everyone in Sam Evans here and today I

0:03wanted to introduce you to something

0:06that's helped me in my life and in my in

0:08in my business you know a huge amount

0:10and that is something called chunking so

0:13you're probably thinking what is

0:14chunking what's it all about

0:16well chunking is really the secret to

0:18achieving massive tasks it's the secret

0:21to achieving monumental things and I'll

0:24give you an example like there is

0:26actually humans who have eaten like

0:29entire aeroplanes like an entire

0:31airplane or a train

0:32I'm not joking there as humans who have

0:35eaten trains and airplanes now you're

0:37probably thinking how on earth do they

0:39do that how do you fit that in you it's

0:41impossible well what they do is they

0:43actually grind it down and they turn it

0:46into fine powder and it's like you know

0:48it's kind of like it's like the

0:50thickness of ground pepper and then on

0:54every single meal they have they just

0:56grabbed out a container and they just

0:58sprinkle some of this some of the metal

1:00shavings or the metal dust onto their

1:02meal and then they just eat it and the

1:05digestive system doesn't really you know

1:07panic or go crazy eating a little bit of

1:09this stuff every single day and over

1:12time a human being is act is able to eat

1:15an entire airplane or an entire train

1:18and I'm not joking you can look this

1:19stuff up so what's my point with all of

1:21this like you know because I'm sure a

1:23lot of you don't want to eat a plane or

1:25an airplane or if you do you know how

1:26but why what what this is is it's

1:31chunking and what chunking is is it's

1:33basically a way of taking a big task or

1:35a big goal and then just breaking it

1:38down into smaller and smaller pieces

1:40until they become the size that you can

1:44cope with on a day-to-day basis because

1:46I see people make this classic mistake

1:49all the time they seem to think like if

1:51it can't be fully achieved from start to

1:54finish in like the space of a day or a

1:56week or a month then they don't even

1:58bother trying to do it and it's stupid

2:01because most things that are actually

2:02worthwhile and most things that are

2:04worth actually doing they take a long

2:07period of time you know they're long

2:09term

2:09missions their long-term objectives and

2:12I see this in the business world all the

2:13time you know especially these days

2:15people are so hooked on social media and

2:18this so Wyatt to instant gratification

2:21that they expect if they expect

2:24everything to be done like now and they

2:26expect to get the results and reap the

2:28rewards now because when you do

2:30something on social media you do a post

2:32and then you get your likes and you get

2:34your comments and it's instant and

2:35people are so wired to this instant

2:37gratification hook that when they go to

2:41do something that's slightly longer term

2:43they just can't their brain spasms out

2:46and they can't contain themselves their

2:48arms almost start twitching because you

2:50know they're working on something and

2:51they can't see the payback of it

2:53immediately and I see this everywhere

2:56throughout society these days you know

2:58probably the the main thing that's

3:00plaguing people these days like a

3:02disease is this instant gratification

3:04thing which comes from social media and

3:06you know if you really want to achieve

3:08something big well it's gonna take time

3:10it's going to be long term so really the

3:13secret is to chunk it and to really

3:15drive this point home oh I'll give you

3:17an example so in my you know in my

3:21business I teach people how to start

3:23their own consulting businesses I teach

3:25a complete stranger who knows nothing

3:28about business to start their own

3:30consulting business and actually get

3:32clients help their clients and get paid

3:35money and make a profit now that's a

3:37huge transformation for somebody to make

3:39you know this person has no idea how to

3:41how to even do business that they don't

3:43know how to do sales they don't know how

3:45accounting works they don't know how any

3:47of this stuff works and they don't even

3:48know what their niche is gonna be who

3:50their clients gonna be they don't know

3:51any of this so a lot of people would

3:53look at their task and say impossible

3:55but I know it's not impossible because I

3:58did it myself and what I had to do to

4:01figure out how to create the training

4:03and teach other people how to do it too

4:04was I had to chunk it down into

4:06bite-sized pieces I had to really study

4:09and analyze the whole journey that I

4:11made myself and break it down into small

4:14pieces small palatable bite-sized pieces

4:17that you know people could consume and

4:19when I did that I was able to give the

4:22people small tasks that they can

4:24complete in an hour two hours and they

4:26can work on day to day and over a period

4:29of time you know things start to

4:31compound and things start to accrue and

4:33build up and momentum is made and when

4:36you get that momentum things start

4:37happening and so through the process of

4:40chunking I've been able to not only

4:43start my own consulting business from

4:45scratch out of my parents carriage and

4:46grow it to the point now where it's

4:48making 20 million a year and move into

4:51this place here in Manhattan here you

4:53know I was able to achieve that through

4:55chunking myself I looked at this journey

4:58I was like I want to start a business

4:59but instead of trying to start a

5:01business and make 20 million on day one

5:03or week one which is what I swear most

5:05people think that they're gonna do when

5:06they start a business that doesn't

5:09happen you have to chunk it down what do

5:11I need to learn today break it down all

5:14right what would be if I want to be

5:17there in five years or 10 years all

5:19right what do I need to achieve this

5:21year you know start from the big-picture

5:23view where do you want to go in 5-10

5:25years then reverse-engineer it backwards

5:27you know start at the end work from the

5:31big picture to the small where do you

5:33want to be in five to ten years to find

5:35that figure it out because you know what

5:38gets measured gets done and if you don't

5:40have a goal and if you're not measuring

5:42your progress towards that goal then I

5:45can tell you that you'll be floundering

5:46around in a labyrinth of confusion and

5:49frustration not knowing what to do each

5:52day and feeling guilty of it which is

5:54messed up because there's no reason to

5:55really feel guilt because you don't even

5:57know what you want anyway so it's a

5:58state of perpetual confusion and it's a

6:01straight it's a it's a place that I wish

6:04no one being because it's horrible you

6:06know because you're not making any

6:07progress and you feel bad about it and

6:08there's no way to really fix it so the

6:11way to fix it is to define your goal

6:14what do you want where do you want to be

6:16five years from now ten years from now

6:18make it specific write it down once

6:20you've got it down reverse-engineer it

6:23where do you need to be at the end of

6:25this year you know 12 months that's a

6:27good time frame to work in once you know

6:29where you need to be at the end of the

6:30year

6:31now reverse engineer it back to the

6:33months what do you need to achieve this

6:35month

6:35once you know where you want to be this

6:38month now reverse-engineer it into the

6:40weeks what do you need to do week to

6:42week to achieve where you need to be at

6:44the end of the month all right now we

6:46know what we're doing in the weeks all

6:47right now let's break it down into days

6:49what do we need to do each day in order

6:52to achieve what we want to achieve this

6:54week now we've got it in two days all

6:57right now let's chunk it into hours

6:58what do I need to do hour by hour from

7:01when I wake up to when I go to be it to

7:02achieve this thing today then break it

7:05out then when you approach each hour you

7:09know what to do you just look at your

7:10list you look at your to-do list and you

7:12execute you do it

7:13that is how progress is made that's how

7:15things are done you know a lot of people

7:17I swear they think it's like black magic

7:19or something like oh man how did that

7:21guy start a business and make money and

7:23do all of that

7:24they're like maybe he summoned some like

7:26some weird thing or did some voodoo

7:30stuff or like maybe he got struck by

7:32lightning or some weird crap like that

7:34that's not how it works that's how

7:37people who don't understand things like

7:39rationalize things and that's messed up

7:42you know the way anyone achieves

7:44anything is by figuring out what they

7:47want reverse engineering it chunking it

7:49into small bite-sized pieces writing it

7:52down committing it to paper and then

7:54executing on it day to day and I'll give

7:58you a tip one of the best things you can

8:00do in your life once you know your goals

8:02and all of that is to live in day sized

8:05compartments and what I mean by that is

8:08you know a lot of people I swear they

8:11they live like month-to-month or they

8:13live year-to-year and you know they only

8:15think really about the month but the way

8:17any of us ever get something done that

8:19is right now it's by focusing on right

8:22now and what I like to do and this is a

8:25principle and a habit that I installed

8:28in myself to be able to get things done

8:30and that's living in day tight

8:32compartments so how do you do that well

8:35instead of thinking about the week the

8:37month of the year just think about the

8:38day just think about that day as if it's

8:41isolated like at the end when you go to

8:43sleep in at the start when you wake up

8:44what are you gonna get done today

8:47to find that that's the

8:48most important thing more so really than

8:51your yearly goals and things like that I

8:52mean don't get me wrong those are

8:54important but those are just big picture

8:57things they're targets and targets are

9:00useless unless you're shooting and

9:01that's what your day tight compartments

9:04are for therefore executing on what you

9:06know needs to be done so that you can

9:07get to that target and hit it and so

9:11what you should try and do is try to

9:13live in day tight compartments as well

9:15instead of worrying about months and

9:17weeks today what are you going to get

9:19done today

9:20and you know this brings up another

9:23interesting point so like yesterday I

9:27think it was yesterday or two days ago

9:29Amazon just released its latest letters

9:32to shareholders if you haven't read

9:33these things then you need to read them

9:35it's honestly some of the best content

9:37I've ever read in my entire life and

9:39I've read quite a lot of stuff and

9:40they're free and I'll include a link

9:42beneath this video to to the leaders to

9:45shareholders I compiled all of them into

9:46one PDF and I even did a video where I

9:49shoot a quick analysis of them and give

9:51you my feedback my top 5 lessons so

9:53that'll be in a link beneath this video

9:55but I read their latest letters to

9:57shareholders and in their Jeff Bezos

10:00talks about doing a handstand and he

10:03says that one of his executives what

10:07really wanted to do good handstands and

10:09she was so obsessed with doing good

10:11handstands that she actually joined a

10:14class to try and figure out how to do

10:17them and sure in this class she she

10:22still wasn't able to really do a perfect

10:24handstand and she was a little bit upset

10:25about it and then saw what she does she

10:28hired a coach a coach on how to teach

10:30you how to do professional handstands

10:32perfect and stands and the first thing

10:35the coach said to her when he started

10:37working with her was most people think

10:40that you can do a perfect handstand in

10:42like two weeks but the reality of it is

10:45is that it actually takes six months of

10:49daily practice every day there was the

10:53first thing he said to it and Jeff Bezos

10:56said that you know one of the most

10:58important things that you can have when

10:59you're trying to achieve a goal

11:01realistic expectations and that was the

11:05point he was trying to make in this

11:06leaders to shareholders and what he's

11:08trying to say is that you know if you

11:11want to achieve something big you've got

11:12to have realistic expectations so when

11:15you get into business if you're starting

11:17your first business don't expect to make

11:19twenty million dollars in the first week

11:20doesn't happen and you know you can

11:24expect to get some clients and make some

11:26money but I mean you're not going to be

11:27making a lot of money for a while and

11:29the best thing you can really do for

11:31yourself is set some realistic

11:33expectations and when you set realistic

11:36expectations

11:37it just becomes normal you know what you

11:39need to do day-to-day and you know what

11:42you need to do week to week month to

11:43month and all of that to get to where

11:45you want to go because one of the most

11:47disheartening things is having

11:49unrealistic expectations because then of

11:52course what's going to happen is they're

11:54not going to come true

11:55and then you're going to feel real bad

11:56about it so that was the point Bezos was

11:59trying to make with that and I think

12:00it's a good one because in this in this

12:02modern-day world I see a lot of people

12:04shouting on Facebook and YouTube and

12:06stuff like start a business and make

12:08millions of dollars by doing nothing and

12:10you know in really learning nothing and

12:13you can do it now and I've never seen

12:16that happen and you know I'd pay someone

12:19to see that happen because I know it

12:21can't and if it did all I'd be doing

12:23that but it doesn't exist so it's you

12:26know you're choosing to believe in an

12:28illusion and if you choose to believe in

12:31an illusion then you're just fooling

12:33yourself you're believing a lie

12:34and the truth is you know to achieve

12:37anything big to achieve any task that's

12:40worthwhile it's going to take time and

12:42it's going to take daily practice every

12:45day and that's really what it takes and

12:48the secret to achieving that goal is

12:51through chunking breaking it down into

12:54small pieces small pieces that you can

12:57bite off you know like you don't even

12:59try and eat a steak in one bite it just

13:01doesn't work you have to cut it into

13:03pieces and work on it and when you bite

13:05it into small pieces chew them off one

13:07at a time you get the steak heat and you

13:09get the job done just like that guy will

13:12multiple guys have eaten ear

13:14planes and trains that's how you can

13:16achieve the task that you want to

13:18achieve that's how you can start your

13:19business and get to where you want to go

13:21in life and I want to leave you with you

13:25know one final point here which is which

13:27is one that I like always like to

13:29remember and that is that you never

13:33steer at the summit and this is this is

13:37something which I learned from watching

13:38a lot of mountaineering movies and I

13:40love watching those movies because I

13:41kind of consider myself

13:43similar to those guys like I'm trying to

13:45reach a pinnacle I'm trying to climb a

13:47mountain and you know it's not an actual

13:50mountain I'm trying to you know start a

13:52business and grow it to a particular

13:53point but it's really no different from

13:56a mountaineering person who's trying to

13:57climb a summit he's trying to reach a

14:01pinnacle and there's a saying in the

14:03among Mountaineers there in climbers

14:06that is don't stare at the summit that

14:10is how you get disheartened because

14:12you're just staring at it and you just

14:14keep going and you don't get there and

14:15you get worn out and that's how people

14:17give up and that's how people don't get

14:19to the summit by fixating on the summit

14:22and obsessing over the summit you don't

14:24get there so release your attachment to

14:28the goal stops fixating your eyes on

14:30like Lamborghinis and things in these

14:32flashy lifestyles and fixate instead

14:36your eyes what they do in mountaineering

14:38instead of fixating on the summit you

14:41stare at your boots that's what you do

14:44because when you stare at your boots you

14:46just focus on making another step one

14:49more step one more step one more step

14:52just look at your boots every now and

14:55then you can look up and look at the

14:56summit but then you get get eyes back

14:58down on the boots so in the business

15:00world you know stop fixating on the goal

15:02and you know waiting for it to happen

15:05because it's not going to happen it's

15:07only going to happen if you stare at

15:09your boots focus on what you can do

15:10today chunk it down into bite-sized

15:13pieces what is the step that you can

15:15take today or right now to get to where

15:18you want to go to get to the summit so

15:20that's it for this video I wanted to

15:23tell you you know if you want if you

15:25want to achieve

15:26big things in life we want to start your

15:28own business or whatever define that

15:30goal make it clear write it down figure

15:33out where you want to be five ten years

15:34from now reverse-engineer it back go

15:37from the year into the months into the

15:40weeks into the days into the hours write

15:42it down and then execute and keep your

15:45eyes on your boots make one step at a

15:48time so if you liked this video what I

15:51want you to do is just click that

15:52subscribe button right there to get more

15:55videos like this so I released one of

15:56these videos every week also if you

15:58liked it click that like button and then

16:01let me know what you think in the

16:02comment section below if you enjoyed

16:04this video just write me a comment I'm

16:05gonna be checking and replying to all of

16:07the comments myself personally so thanks

16:10for watching this video and I look

16:12forward to producing another one for you

16:13soon
