0:00everyone at cemre burns here and today I

0:02wanted to shoot a quick video called

0:05stop confusing yourself you know define

0:08the problem in solve it so one thing

0:11that I see that is you know just

0:14plaguing at most entrepreneurs and

0:16actually you know most people in the

0:18entire world is that they're so confused

0:21you know they don't know what to do and

0:24the main reason why they don't know what

0:26to do is because they don't know what

0:28they want and when you don't know what

0:30you want you can't possibly know what to

0:32do and then they end up confused and

0:35frustrated because they know they should

0:37be doing something but they don't know

0:38what because they don't know what they

0:39want and they don't know what to do or

0:42what they want because they don't know

0:43all right so this is just a big mess and

0:46you know most of the time like human

0:50beings they actually get like

0:52satisfaction and joy out of you know

0:55having a clearly defined goal and making

0:58steady progress towards that goal and

1:00this this guy actually did a fascinating

1:04study and I've actually forgotten his

1:07name because you know it's like 28

1:10letters long or something it's a really

1:11complicated name but what I'll do is

1:13I'll link beneath this this video to the

1:17book that I read by him which is called

1:18flow and this book's phenomenal and you

1:21know it talks about flow state and how

1:24like humans you know they talk about

1:27this place called the zone you know

1:29you've probably heard athletes talk

1:30about the zone or extreme sports people

1:32or coders or you know anyone they can

1:35get into this very quiet zone state and

1:38when they're in that state it's like

1:40their sense of self disappears it's like

1:43time slows down and space you know just

1:47folds in and collapses and it's like

1:49they're just in the work right and when

1:52you're in this zone like you do your

1:55best work and what this guy wanted to

1:58really figure out he was a psychologist

2:01and he really wanted to figure out what

2:03makes humans happy and so what he did is

2:06he got these all pages like these little

2:08buzzes and he gave them out to like

2:12of different people randomly selected

2:14all over the world and what they would

2:16buzz at random times and at these random

2:19times when they buzz when it buzz the

2:21person was supposed to pull out a

2:23notepad notebook which they had in their

2:25pocket and then write down exactly what

2:27they were doing at the time that it

2:29buzzed and how they were feeling whether

2:31they were feeling happy or whatever and

2:33he let this heal it you know these

2:36people collect data for a long time and

2:38then he collected all of that data and

2:41he started compiling it and analyzing it

2:44and what he found was fascinating you

2:47know he found that when you know humans

2:50reported being most happy when they were

2:53doing a task that had a clearly defined

2:56goal and objective and they were making

2:59steady progress towards that goal

3:01without distraction and

3:04also they were you know they were good

3:07they were skilled enough to like try the

3:09goal but not too skilled that it was

3:11easy right so it was it was challenging

3:13but not too challenging definitely not

3:15too easy clearly defined outcome and

3:17they will lift alone without distraction

3:20to just focus on it and get it done and

3:22this is very true you know like if

3:26you've ever experienced being in the

3:28zone before and if you recollect like

3:31what was going on at that time then

3:33you'll find that you know there was a

3:35very clearly defined goal and you were

3:38left alone to just to just do your thing

3:40and get that goal done and when you're

3:42in the zone you know you feel like

3:44amazing and it's it's probably the most

3:47like it's probably the the happiest or

3:50like the you know the best you can

3:52possibly feel really and it's an amazing

3:55place to be in you know lots of studies

3:58have shown that this is really good for

3:59your health too this is where your most

4:01creative this is where your most

4:03effective this is where you're you know

4:05you're you're sharp at your minds at its

4:06best and you know there's there's

4:09there's so much benefit to being in the

4:11zone and

4:13it really correlates to you know why

4:17most people don't know like what they

4:19want and why they're confused and

4:20frustrated because there is not this

4:24hone you when you're confused frustrated

4:26and you don't know what you want and you

4:28don't know what to do because you don't

4:30know what you want then you're in the

4:33entire zone you know it's basically just

4:35inverted to zone right and if the zone

4:37is as good as you can feel then you know

4:39this one's gonna be pretty shitty right

4:41and it makes sense and it starts because

4:44there's no clearly defined objective you

4:46know you it's it's not very fun to be in

4:49a position where you don't know what

4:50you're trying to achieve all right and

4:52it's because then you don't know what to

4:55do and you just you just get totally

4:56confused and what I've noticed is that

4:59most entrepreneurs are like this you

5:02know I've got a company called consoling

5:03calm and what we do is we help people

5:05start and grow their own consulting

5:08businesses in any niche and we do Q&A

5:11calls and we do like two of them a week

5:13and we've got like three programs and

5:16they go for hours long so you know I end

5:18up doing probably like six hours a week

5:21of QA just answering questions just just

5:24hundreds of questions right and

5:27I've done this for years like more than

5:30four or five years and so I've over this

5:33amount of time you know I've answered a

5:34lot of questions and I've observed a lot

5:36of people and their their situations and

5:39what I've noticed is it's very similar

5:42to you know the study of the zone and

5:45having a clear objective because most of

5:47the time on one of these Q&A calls when

5:49somebody gets on and it's their time to

5:52speak and ask a question a lot of the

5:55time the person will tell a story they

5:57will say things and then and then they

6:01won't ask a question right and a very

6:05clear sign that somebody is confused is

6:07when they don't ask a question and they

6:09tell a story or they they tell a

6:12statement instead right and also another

6:16another sign that someone's confused as

6:19if they just tell their story and then

6:21they say so what do you think

6:22you can tell that that person is

6:25confused and

6:27like people who aren't confused are the

6:29people who will ask a very clear

6:32question and then all the person has to

6:34do is answer it which is very easy and

6:36this is fascinating because what I've

6:39learned to do from hundreds of these Q&A

6:42calls thousands of hours of them is just

6:45be like what's the question and a lot of

6:48the time the person doesn't even know

6:49what the question is so then I have to

6:53help and I have to be like what are you

6:54trying to do and they don't know and

6:56then when I say well you know before we

6:58do anything we need to figure out what

7:00are you trying to do what are you trying

7:02to achieve here and just by pushing them

7:04to think what am I trying to achieve

7:06here they'll get that clarity and

7:08they'll say you know I'm trying to

7:09achieve this I'm trying to get more

7:10clients I'm trying to grow my business

7:12or I'm trying to you know get more more

7:16systems and processes and automation in

7:19my business so that I've got more time

7:20right then we've got some clarity now

7:24we've set that objective we know what

7:25we're trying to do all right then once

7:29they've got that I'll be like okay well

7:31what's stopping you from doing that and

7:34a lot of the time the person is just

7:36like oh well nothing I I know what to do

7:40and we're done you know and I didn't

7:42even have to answer their question I

7:43didn't even have to really look at this

7:46story or anything like that all I had to

7:49do is just ignore what they told me and

7:51say what are you trying to do or what's

7:52the problem and this is what this is a

7:55fascinating thing to learn about problem

7:57solving and it works very well if you're

8:00trying to solve problems for other

8:01people but it also works extremely well

8:03to use on yourself and the reason why I

8:06wanted to make this video is that I've

8:08noticed a lot of entrepreneurs there

8:10they're out there in the world and a lot

8:12of people actually this isn't just for

8:14entrepreneurs this is for humans they

8:17feel frustrated anxious confused

8:20everyday and it's because they don't

8:23know what they should do or what they're

8:26doing something that they don't know if

8:27it's the best thing that they should be

8:28doing and the reason why they don't know

8:30this is because they don't know what

8:31they want long-term and so step one to

8:35solving all of this to solving all of

8:38this confusion and anxiety and

8:39everything is just to figure out what

8:41you want and sometimes it's hard for

8:43people to do you know sometimes you've

8:44got to take some alone time to go away

8:46and think you know away from social

8:48media away from your phone away from

8:50other people and just think like what do

8:53I want what am I trying to achieve and

8:55then when you've got that write it down

8:57and make sure it's clear and what you'll

8:59find is that when you know what you want

9:01and you've written it down and it's

9:02defined now all we're trying to do is

9:05find the best possible action to achieve

9:09that objective right but we can't

9:13possibly choose an action when we don't

9:15know what the objective is so objective

9:18number one then choosing the best

9:19possible action and a lot of the time in

9:23you know Einstein said this he said if I

9:25had one hour to solve a problem if I had

9:27one hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55

9:30minutes defining it and five minutes

9:33solving it because what I've found and

9:36what you will find are what thousands of

9:38other people will millions of other

9:39people have found is that most of

9:41problem solving is problem defining and

9:44it's near impossible to solve a problem

9:46when it's not defined and as soon as

9:48it's defined it's basically solved and

9:50so that's what you've got to think about

9:52with yourself like if you're confused

9:54right now and you're you know you're

9:56spending time on social media you're

9:57posting you're doing

9:59podcasts and blogs and you're you're

10:02just all of your time is just getting

10:03scattered between all of these different

10:05things all right you're reading all

10:06these books you're meeting these

10:07different people you're you know you're

10:09working 12 hours a day and you're but

10:11you're wondering why you don't have any

10:12clients and you're not making any money

10:14and no one is interested in you all

10:16right well that's you know you've got a

10:19problem there and we need to figure out

10:21what it is and we need a figure to

10:24figure that out we need to figure out

10:25what you're trying to do and what are

10:27you trying to do but because it looks

10:30like to me what you're trying to do

10:31there is just be famous or popular and

10:34that is not the same as

10:36successful with clients right the two

10:39are not correlated quite often Fame the

10:43people aren't very good at the the thing

10:46and you know they're just good at being

10:48famous and you know they're not very

10:50rich or successful at all they're just

10:52good at being famous that's that's this

10:54skill and if you want to be famous then

10:56you should learn from the famous people

10:57right but when it comes to people who

10:59are very good at a specific skill you'll

11:02find that there were the skill they're

11:04not working on being famous and they

11:06actually don't care about being famous

11:07because that isn't the skill all right

11:09it seems so clear when you state it like

11:11that but honestly most people just get

11:14taken for the ride because they don't

11:16know how to see and

11:18you know a lot of people this is what's

11:20causing a lot of people right now in

11:22entrepreneurship to focus on the wrong

11:23things they see someone who is a fast

11:26fancy car on the internet and then they

11:30think oh that person's doing a lot of

11:32this so I should do a lot of that

11:33because that's because obviously they're

11:35successful if they have their car and I

11:36know they are because I saw them in a

11:37photo with that car and therefore

11:39they're doing a lot of social media so I

11:41should do a lot of social media that's

11:43some really screwed up logic if you if

11:45you think like that and you make your

11:46decisions like that you're going to you

11:49know run yourself into the ground

11:51alright because there's too many

11:53assumptions in there you know really if

11:56we boil business down to it all

11:58businesses is solving problems for other

12:00people we want to look at a market like

12:02what is the niche that we want to pick

12:03let's say it's accountants right let's

12:06say we're really and how do you pick

12:07your net tool you pick your niche based

12:08on what you're interested in curious

12:10about passionate about interested in who

12:12cares if you don't have experience in it

12:14it's just a thing of interest it's it's

12:17a love decision it's not a logic

12:19decision so you pick the niche based on

12:22passion and then you look into the niche

12:26and you look at the participants in that

12:28niche and you start talking to them and

12:31researching them and you basically want

12:33to understand them you're not trying to

12:35offer them anything you're not trying to

12:37think what to offer them no you're just

12:39trying to understand what problems do

12:41these people have what's their day like

12:43and you understand them and when you

12:45understand them and you talk to enough

12:46of them and they tell you you're their

12:48problems then you a pattern appears and

12:50now you see that there's a common

12:52widespread problem that exists amongst

12:54the majority of participants in the

12:56niche now you've found something now

12:59what do we do that we ever problem then

13:01we think well how could we solve it and

13:03how do we solve it well we can look at

13:05has anybody else solve this problem or

13:07has anybody else come close or how can

13:10you know how can we how can we fix it

13:12and then when you think how you can fix

13:14then you can come back and offer it to

13:15someone and they should be willing to

13:17pay you money for it because Pete that's

13:20why people spend money the whole reason

13:22why the global economy ticks and does

13:24what it does is because people are out

13:26there every day wanting something that

13:28they don't have and buying to try and

13:31get it right buying happens because

13:34people are trying to find ways to get to

13:37a place where they want to be and all

13:40businesses are our providers of possible

13:44vehicles to get people to where they

13:45want to be right so if you want to be a

13:48good provider of these vehicles then you

13:49need to understand the people and what

13:50they want so you can provide something

13:52to help them get there and that's all it

13:54is using first principles that is as

13:57simple as this thing is and I see a lot

14:00of people think it's Facebook ads it's

14:01funnels it's it I've even seen people

14:05say oh it's just Sam's accent seriously

14:08yeah it's my accent like people need to

14:12people need a slap you know like they

14:14they literally just think it might be

14:16like it's it's the suit that someone's

14:19got on or some dudes got a watch on some

14:21guys got a car or at some dudes Twitter

14:23account like people need a slap in the

14:26face and they need to understand that

14:28you know these things are smoke and

14:31mirrors these things aren't real they're

14:33things put out there to confuse people

14:36and the only thing that really matters

14:39is are you solving a problem is it

14:41important and are you actually solving

14:44it for people because these people who

14:46try to solve problems but they don't

14:47quite solve it then you know that

14:49doesn't quite work you need to truly

14:50solve the problem and that's as simple

14:53as business is and really this

14:56transcends business and it goes into

14:57life itself you know all life is really

15:00is solving problems and the best way to

15:03solve them is to define the problem and

15:05it just makes everything so simple so

15:08you know the whole point in making this

15:10video and it's just a quick one today

15:11was to stop confusing yourself and to

15:16sit down and define the problem so in

15:20life right now if you're confused and

15:22you're anxious and you're a bit

15:24you know you just you just don't know

15:26what you should do or you're doing

15:28something but there's this feeling

15:29inside you that you you don't think it's

15:32the best thing you should be doing but

15:34you're just doing it to do it because if

15:36you weren't doing it you wouldn't know

15:37what else to do right so if you're

15:39feeling like this and this is your

15:41situation then take some time to sit

15:44down and define

15:46the you know what you want like what is

15:49the objective step one is define the

15:52objective once that is done then that

15:55tells us what action we should take and

15:57the action we should take is the best

16:00possible action to try and achieve that

16:02objective and how do we know what that

16:05is well we want to see if other people

16:07or other companies or anyone in the

16:09world anywhere at anytime has had this

16:12objective and actually obtained it or

16:14gotten close to it and if they have what

16:16means that they use to achieve that end

16:18and what means they used is what means

16:21you should use and whatever that means

16:24that is that's what you should do if you

16:26can't do it learn how to do it right and

16:28then by doing that then you should get

16:31close or you should achieve the thing it

16:33says it's really as simple as that and

16:35it can you know this process of just

16:37defining a problem can just totally

16:41change a business in one minute you know

16:43sometimes I get on these Q&A calls with

16:45my customers and in five minutes with

16:48some words we have completely

16:50restructured their entire business in

16:52life in five minutes and it's just it

16:55I'm not really performing any magic like

16:58you know a lot of people might think our

17:00Sims just you know really good at all of

17:02this stuff or he's you know really smart

17:05at this sort of stuff or something like

17:06that but it's not true I just make it

17:09simple I'm just like what are you trying

17:11to achieve okay you don't know well what

17:14is it all right we'll think what do you

17:16want all right we've got it now

17:18what's stopping you from getting it all

17:21right well then how are we going to get

17:24you how we gonna you know get you to do

17:26it so you can achieve it simple as that

17:28and you know to show you I'll give you

17:32one example I'll end on one example here

17:33because this one is

17:35find this one quite amusing and

17:38what I noticed is that you know there

17:41was in my training programs at the

17:43beginning there were people who

17:45succeeded and got really good results

17:46and in there was some people who didn't

17:49really succeed and

17:51then you know I wondered why like is it

17:54because these people are way smarter

17:55than these people like what is going on

17:57here and so I decided to investigate it

18:00and

18:00a lot of the people who don't get

18:03results they don't do the course and

18:06that one's quite simple you know you

18:08don't do the cause you don't do any work

18:10obviously you don't get the real results

18:12but then I wondered why so I was like

18:14why don't they do the course and so I

18:16started investigating that and then it

18:18turns out that really just the lifes are

18:22so chaotic and they've got so much going

18:25on and they're so distracted and they're

18:26listening to like 50 different people

18:28every day on 19 different podcasts 15

18:31different email lists they're they're

18:34two pages in on 19 books they've got

18:37another six coming from Amazon and you

18:40know they're in six courses and they're

18:43they've got four businesses and they're

18:45thinking of starting nine more right I'm

18:48it's this is a bit of an exaggeration

18:49but I'm not kidding you this is

18:51basically what it looks like and

18:54that's why they couldn't do the course

18:56and that's why they couldn't do the work

18:58and that's why they couldn't achieve the

19:01outcome yet they're puzzled as to why

19:05they don't have the outcome so I

19:07realized that you know the course didn't

19:10have to be that much fancier it didn't

19:12have to go into more tactics that didn't

19:14have to go into you know more granular

19:17detail the main obstacle and problem I

19:19had to solve was I had to help people

19:21just clean up their damn life because

19:24until you get rid of all the baggage

19:26you're not going to have the headspace

19:28to to do anything and someone in their

19:31space which I just explained before like

19:33you're not going to be able to watch a

19:35video and take it in and they're not

19:37going to be able to implement something

19:38because they're not in the right

19:40headspace because they've got so much

19:41baggage attached to them and then so how

19:43do we how do we deal with that well we

19:46just teach them how to get rid of their

19:47baggage and that's a lot of what we do

19:49in our program it's just to tell people

19:51how to get rid of all of that crap like

19:53how to stop drinking how to just stop

19:55going out and partying how to you know

19:58to stop wasting time like going out and

20:00buying meals all the time in prepping

20:02for the whole week and how to get enough

20:04sleep and you know how to delete all of

20:07the apps on your phone and the in turn

20:09your phone on airplane mode and then put

20:10it away in a drawer somewhere and then

20:12how to stop using social media and then

20:15how to unsubscribe from every email list

20:17and how to just get rid of every piece

20:19of distraction in their life because you

20:23need to focus to to get something done

20:27and it's hard for people to focus and

20:29people sit there and they wonder why

20:31they can't focus and

20:33it's because this one fascinated me too

20:37like why can't these people focus well

20:40they're sitting there with all of this

20:42distraction and they're trying to focus

20:44and trying to focus in the face of such

20:46distraction is very hard and what is the

20:51opposite of focus if we take focus we

20:53turn it upside down what is the inverse

20:54of focus it's distraction so if we don't

20:58do distraction then what are we doing if

21:00we don't do distraction we're doing

21:01focus that's how it works and so instead

21:04of getting people to try and focus I

21:06just got them to get rid of distraction

21:09and that is the secret that I use to I

21:12am not really good at focus I can't sit

21:14there with all of this distraction and

21:16just focus all day every day all the

21:18time doesn't work I don't have the

21:20willpower to do that and it's just hard

21:23and so instead I get rid of the

21:25distraction you know on my phone I've

21:28got like four or five apps and you know

21:31I like no one text me no one calls me

21:34and I have my phone on airplane mode

21:35most the time and in my drawer right I

21:37only have one screen on my here you I

21:41run my whole business just like that

21:42right and I don't have lots of stuff

21:47around me that's distracting me because

21:50the less things you have then the more

21:54focus you have because the you know if

21:56we get rid of distraction then we're

21:57focusing and so that's my recommendation

21:59to you too is

22:01to focus on getting rid of all the junk

22:04in all of the baggage and everything

22:07that you're carrying around with you

22:08because if you just do that then

22:11you will do you'll be way more

22:13successful and it's way easier to do

22:15that than it is to learn some you know

22:17ninja face book head and funnel tactic

22:20right and that face book head and funnel

22:22tactic hang and even going to work

22:23anyway if you've got all this baggage

22:25attached to you so sometimes the answer

22:27is so much simpler than what we think we

22:28want to look at the tactics we swear

22:30it's going to be another course or

22:32something but it's not it's just it's

22:33just getting rid of the crap in your

22:34life so that you can focus and that's my

22:37advice for you get rid of the crap focus

22:40get rid of your phone that thing is a

22:42disaster like smart phones and social

22:45media

22:46smart phones social media and alcohol

22:50probably the biggest distractions and

22:53most toxic things for you like if you're

22:56trying to succeed in anything so you get

22:57rid of those then you'll be way more

22:58successful and then if you're still

23:01confused sit down with a pin and

23:04ask yourself what are you trying to

23:06achieve then what is the best way to

23:09achieve that and then whatever that is

23:11do that task and don't do anything that

23:14isn't that task until it's done and

23:16that's how you get things done it's

23:18really that simple so that's it for this
