0:00hey what's going on everyone at Sam

0:02Evans here and I just wanted to make

0:04this quick video for you today from st.

0:07Lucia so you can see you know out there

0:10the view and pole and everything so

0:12right now I'm over here

0:15taking a vacation Steven day break and

0:18what happened last year is I was able to

0:21retire my parents and you know they were

0:23able to quit their jobs and I was able

0:26to you know get this place for them out

0:28here in the Caribbean in st. Lucia and

0:30you know they're now fully retired and

0:33living the dream out here at this

0:35awesome place and you know that's one of

0:38the that's probably one of the best

0:39things I've been able to do from

0:41starting my own business and having some

0:43success with it is you know if being

0:45able to help my parents and retire them

0:48and you know and give back to them for

0:50helping me when I was younger so that's

0:52definitely been you know one of the most

0:54rewarding things but the reason why I

0:57wanted to film this video for you today

0:58is to talk about the importance of your

1:02quarterly review so the you know the way

1:06the world works is you know we have

1:09years and then within years we've got

1:12months and then quarters and a quarter

1:14is pretty much like every 90 days so

1:18every three months that's like a quarter

1:20and the business world works like this

1:23you've got you know q1 q2 q3 q4 and also

1:27seasons and everything work like this -

1:30you've got the equinoxes and all of that

1:31so I've found like sometimes annual

1:34goals but they're great most people see

1:37it annual goals at the at the start of

1:39each year and they're like oh this is

1:40what I want to achieve this year but

1:42most people kind of forget about what

1:44they are and they don't think about them

1:47until the end of the year comes and by

1:49then it's pretty much too late

1:51and so what I've found is one of the

1:53best things you can do is quarterly

1:56reviews and what that basically is is

1:59every 90 days is taking a break so I

2:02found that a really good schedule to

2:04stick to for vacations and breaks is 90

2:08days on and then seven days off so you

2:11know you work for three months I just

2:13take Sundays off so I work Monday to

2:15Saturday and I pretty much work 12 hours

2:18a day six days a week take all of Sunday

2:20off and then I do that for 90 days

2:24straight three months and then at the

2:27end of that I'll go away and do no work

2:29at all for a full seven days and that's

2:31what I'm on right now I'm on my my first

2:34my q1 break in st. Lucia here for seven

2:38days with my parents and my wife and my

2:41trainer and you know why it's so

2:44important to take these breaks as number

2:46one you need you need to get some rest

2:48you know the secret to really staying in

2:51the zone and getting into the zone is to

2:53spend time out of the zone and so you

2:55know if you're not taking breaks and

2:57you're not resting then you know chances

2:59are you'll you're way less productive

3:01than you think and I definitely

3:02recommend that you take breaks every 90

3:05days but but more than that it's

3:07important to kind of get away from the

3:10chaos of day-to-day life you know when

3:13you're working day to day and working on

3:15your business or whatever you'll caught

3:17up in so much noise you're in the chaos

3:19you're in the thick of it and you can't

3:21really see you know the forest from the

3:24trees like you know you're stuck just

3:26staring at these things up close like

3:28the trees and these tasks and things and

3:30you can't really rise above it and see

3:33you know the big picture and we are

3:35really trying to go long-term and I've

3:37found that it's very hard to to be

3:40objective and to really see the truth

3:44and things when you're in the thick of

3:45it and in the chaos and I found that one

3:48of the best ways to really get a good

3:49clear view of things is to take a break

3:51because once you relax you catch up on

3:54sleep and you're away from all the noise

3:56and you're away from all the

3:57conversations and emails and all those

3:59things then things get a bit clearer and

4:01you can really see like ways that you

4:04can improve so that you can course

4:06correct early on in the year so that you

4:08can achieve those you know those annual

4:10goals that you probably see it for

4:12yourself so what I wanted what I wanted

4:15to make this video for was not only to

4:18tell you about you know quarterly

4:20reviews and the importance of them but

4:22also tell you how you can do them so

4:25what I've found is the best way to do

4:27them is to just first of all get away

4:30from the noise but you're not going to

4:32be able to do any clear-thinking

4:33unless you get completely away from the

4:36noise that's step one and step two is to

4:39give yourself some time you know you

4:40can't sit down in one hour and really do

4:42it you know you need a few days to

4:44really unwind and then you'll start to

4:46see things clearer and you'll start

4:49things will start popping up into your

4:50brain that you need to address and think

4:53about and so that's what I recommend

4:56doing step one really and then step two

4:59is really going back and looking at the

5:01goals that you set for yourself at the

5:03beginning of the year so looking at them

5:05and then honestly being completely

5:07honest with yourself think have I been

5:09working towards those things the best I

5:12possibly could and if the answer is yes

5:14then you're pretty much lying to

5:16yourself because you know even if you do

5:19even if you've been really productive

5:20and being working really hard you can

5:22always work ten times harder you know a

5:24lot of people say that exam you work

5:26really hard and you're really productive

5:27and stuff but I laugh because I reckon

5:30eighty percent of my time is still

5:32wasted and you know I definitely don't

5:34waste as much time as most people I'm

5:36sure but I still waste a ton and it's

5:38still so much room for improvement and

5:40so you know don't think like that you've

5:44done the best you possibly can think

5:45about how you can do it better because

5:47there's always room for improvement so

5:50you want to sit down really look at

5:52those goals that you see at the

5:53beginning of the year and then be honest

5:55with yourself have you been working as

5:57hard as you possibly can and then

5:59thinking how you can do things better

6:01and one thing I like to do which is kind

6:04of counterintuitive and a lot of a lot

6:07of people do it the opposite of this but

6:10what I like to do is correct errors more

6:14than set more goals so you know a lot of

6:17people there they are addicted to

6:19positivity and so when they come to make

6:21goals and when they come to review their

6:23performance and things they pretty much

6:25just look at what other things can I

6:27strive for and they forget about the

6:31negative things the things they don't

6:32really want to look at because you know

6:34it's painful but what I like to do is I

6:36like to look at the things that I do

6:38wrong

6:38I like to think about the areas where I

6:41make mistakes in Arras and where I'm not

6:44performing well and I like to fix errors

6:46more than I like to you know to strive

6:49for more goals because really it's the

6:52downside you've got to watch out for

6:53more than the upside and so to get more

6:57performance out of myself and to you

6:59know out of my business and my

7:00financials and all of that I spend a lot

7:02of my time trying to correct errors so

7:05give you some examples since I've been

7:07in st. Lucia here I thought you know one

7:10of the things that's really the main

7:13driver of my performance is my mood and

7:15you know I'm sure that's the same for

7:17everyone if you're not in a good mood

7:18you're not really going to be able to

7:20perform very well and so my mood is a

7:23huge driver of that and then if we look

7:25at what drives that it's things like how

7:27Fitness rest exercise food and all of

7:31that and so really when I was doing my

7:34quarterly review just just today and

7:36yesterday I thought you know I'm

7:38definitely I'm going to be it a bit too

7:40late at the moment I'm not getting as

7:42much sleep as I want to that's having an

7:44effect on my business also my diet is

7:47pretty damn clean but I still have the

7:51odd thing here in there which you know

7:54processed foods or some bread or a

7:56burger or something like that and you

7:59know there's nothing wrong with that

8:00but what it does to me is it makes me

8:02feel slower and sluggish and there has

8:05an impact on my performance my mood and

8:08my business and all of that so I've

8:09decided coming into q2 I'm going to

8:13completely I'm gonna set a really strict

8:17rule on myself to be in bed every single

8:19night at like 10 o'clock and be asleep

8:22by 11:00 and I gotta have a lot of

8:24discipline to really do that because I

8:26want to make sure I get at least eight

8:28hours of sleep every night and if I do

8:31that then I know you know things

8:32downstream like my productivity my

8:35performance and all that will increase

8:36my mood will increase and you know it's

8:38it's a simple thing right just focusing

8:40on getting sleep but those things have a

8:43huge impact on your performance and your

8:46business's results and all of that

8:47another one is you know making sure my

8:51diet is really clean

8:52being completely strict about everything

8:54that I put in my mouth like really

8:56strict about it and you know those are

8:58two big things and they're mostly to do

9:01with you know health and fitness and

9:04well-being and all that but one for

9:06business that I've got my third you know

9:08real goal and area to work on in q2 is

9:11distractions so you know one the biggest

9:15enemy of productivity is distractions

9:18and you know if anything can be a

9:20distraction so social media I've started

9:24doing more posts and I've started you

9:26know using Instagram and things like

9:28that more because that's really what my

9:30audience wanted and what I found is that

9:33you know that's a distraction and it's

9:35hurt my productivity quite a lot even

9:37though I want to be doing social media I

9:39don't want to be getting distracted so

9:41you know I've got to have more

9:42discipline there I've got to make sure

9:44that I block out like 30 minutes each

9:47day to do that to do the social media

9:49stuff and then outside of those 30

9:51minutes

9:52I don't even touch it I don't check

9:53anything don't read any comments don't

9:55read anything at all it's just off and

9:58you know that sort of discipline is is

10:00really necessary to get where I want to

10:03go and so you know from taking this

10:06break in q1 those are really the three

10:07things that I've learned that I need to

10:09work on I need to get to sleep I mean on

10:12time I need to make sure I get eight

10:13hours I need to really watch my diet and

10:16be really strict with it to make sure

10:18everything is clean not a single meal

10:20out of alignment and the third one is

10:24distractions especially social media

10:26really making sure that that's capped to

10:2830 minutes each day and you know there's

10:31obviously some other goals as well that

10:33are more you know specific to my

10:35business and things that I want to work

10:36on but those are the main three that I'm

10:39gonna be trying to work on and you can

10:41probably tell that they're pretty simple

10:42and that's the best way to keep things

10:45you want to keep things simple so that

10:47you know it's you can remember it and

10:49you can consciously work on it every

10:50single day and I know that if I improve

10:53those three things everything else

10:54downstream will improve too so that's

10:57pretty much it for this video today I

10:59just wanted to show you my appearance

11:02place in st. Lucia

11:04and give you an update from my vacation

11:06here and really stress the importance of

11:09your own quarterly reviews so what I

11:12recommend you do is you know schedule a

11:14time right now to go on a little break

11:16even if it's two or three days even if

11:18it's somewhere you know that somewhere

11:20close somewhere nearby just get take a

11:22break get away from the chaos be honest

11:25with yourself really criticize yourself

11:27and find areas where you can improve and

11:31if you do that then you know things can

11:34only get better so that's it for this

11:36video thanks for watching and I'll see

11:38you in the next one soon
