0:00hey everyone sam evans here and in

0:02today's video

0:03i'm going to explain why your brain is

0:06[ __ ]

0:07and basically why your brain looks like

0:11this

0:12you know we've got maybe a goal here

0:15goal there actually why not have a goal

0:16here what about goal here actually i

0:18don't want this goal

0:19let's have this goal then how am i going

0:21to get that goal probably by

0:23trading that goal and then i'll do this

0:24action no actually this action

0:26no this action actually that action no

0:28why not go for that goal

0:30that goal this place these friends that

0:33that that it's just a total [ __ ] mess

0:36right and this is basically the thought

0:39patterns

0:40that most people go through every single

0:43day

0:44of their lives and it's a total mess

0:47and when your brain is [ __ ] and when

0:49your brain looks like this

0:51you can't really get anything done you

0:53can't really achieve anything

0:55and it's a problem in this video i'm

0:57going to show you how to

0:59how to fix this and basically

1:02how to unfuck your brain

1:05and make it a bit clearer

1:08so that you can see

1:12you know this isn't perfectly clear but

1:17it's quite an improvement

1:20and once you can see clearly and think

1:22clearly

1:23you can improve your life so

1:27let's get started i've got a total of

1:29about 10

1:30things that i want to show you to help

1:32you

1:33unfuck your brain and think clearly and

1:36this is kind of a

1:37follow-up video from the recent one i

1:39did last week

1:40which was called why you can't do the

1:42work and in that video

1:44i basically answered a question that a

1:47lot of

1:48my viewers have and it is why can't i do

1:52the work like why can't

1:54i sit down at my computer and do the

1:56things i know i need to do to get the

1:57result that i want

2:00and in that video if you haven't seen it

2:01go and watch it now i'll put the link to

2:03it in the description beneath this video

2:05but in that video i said you know you

2:07need to love what you do

2:09and i gave you practical steps to

2:10actually find what you love

2:12so then you can do it and this is kind

2:16of a follow-on and an extension

2:17to that video because you might know

2:20what you love

2:21and you might want to do what you love

2:24but you have problems you're like you

2:26have blockages

2:27and you're confused you're anxious and

2:30you just can't think straight

2:32right and this is a big problem a lot of

2:34human beings

2:36have [ __ ] brains so i'm going to show

2:38you

2:39how you can really clean it up we've got

2:4010 things to cover let's get started

2:43so the first one and this is so common

2:46sense

2:48that it's kind of funny but you know

2:50common sense isn't common practice

2:52and the people that always say oh that's

2:54common sense those are the people

2:56that don't do common sense right because

2:59people who do common sense they wouldn't

3:01make a

3:02common sense remark like that so the

3:04first one

3:05is diet

3:09and i'm being completely serious even if

3:11you want to do well in business

3:13diet is huge because you a human

3:16you are an organic machine right

3:20you are made of organic matter and

3:23how you exist and how you grew to be the

3:25size you are and how you continue to

3:27fuel yourself every single day

3:29is by consuming organic inputs

3:32that you break down and combine with

3:34oxygen to turn into energy

3:36right now you without

3:40food and without water will die you

3:43without food and without water will

3:45think poorly now the quality of those

3:47inputs is very important too

3:49and the best way to think about this is

3:51garbage in garbage out

3:53you know you are what you eat and

3:55there's varying levels you know if you

3:57don't eat anything that's bad

3:58but if you eat too much that's bad but

4:01then the quality of the inputs you're

4:03putting in

4:04affects your thinking in a huge way

4:06right

4:07so if you drink a lot of alcohol that

4:09makes a massive difference i can

4:11honestly tell you that one of the

4:13biggest shifts that

4:15happened in my thinking in my

4:17intelligence

4:18in my decision making and in my business

4:21success was just stopping drinking

4:22alcohol

4:24i mean not drinking a poison and not

4:27willingly killing brain cells is a

4:30pretty good thing to do

4:31so i stopped drinking alcohol and i also

4:34have a pretty clean diet

4:35i use this meal delivery service called

4:38thistle t

4:39h i s t l e dot c o and i basically eat

4:42a lot of plants

4:43i'm not a vegan and or vegetarian i'm

4:46also not a hardcore meat person i like

4:48to have a kind of balance in the middle

4:50there

4:50about half the meals i eat a vegetarian

4:52about half the meals i eat have meat in

4:54them

4:55and i think that's a good balance and

4:57then

4:58i just try to eat a lot of plants and no

5:01dairy

5:01no wheat no sugar no gluten and no

5:04processed stuff

5:06as well as no alcohol right that's

5:08basically what i eat and if you're

5:10wondering like many people

5:11well what's left to eat if we don't eat

5:13those things well basically plants

5:16right so diet i can tell you that if you

5:19eat better

5:19you will think better it's a big

5:23big big difference and this includes

5:25alcohol too

5:27now the second one is sleep

5:30i'll try right a bit bigger

5:35now again this is common sense but

5:36common sense is not common practice

5:38so sleep is huge and if you don't

5:41believe me then just run a little

5:42experiment

5:43like tonight just try not sleeping at

5:45all just stay up all night right

5:47and then tomorrow go to work see how you

5:50perform

5:52now at the end of that day see how

5:54you're feeling

5:55see what your output was like and then

5:58go to sleep

5:58and then try the next day after having a

6:00good sleep and then see how you perform

6:02right it doesn't take a genius or it

6:05doesn't take much of an experiment

6:07to really prove that sleep is important

6:09both of these

6:11are easily provable you know diet just

6:13give someone a whole lot of like

6:16bad food and alcohol and watch them work

6:18then give them a clean

6:20diet and no i'll watch them work right

6:22this is just

6:23simple stuff but you know common sense

6:26isn't common practice

6:27and the things that most people forget

6:30aren't are they are really the simple

6:32things

6:32right it's quite crazy when i look

6:34around at

6:36you know people that want to like

6:37exercise and lose weight and get healthy

6:40they're worried about like what apple

6:42watch they've got and what apps they've

6:43got on their apple watch

6:45and what headphones they've got whether

6:47they've got wireless

6:49headphones with what apple watch with

6:51what apps

6:52and then what gym they're going to and

6:54then what nike shoes with what socks

6:57and then what type of exercise they're

6:59doing

7:00and what type of smoothie they're having

7:02which is totally out of this world crazy

7:04right that's so complex really this the

7:07things

7:08to being healthy and fit haven't changed

7:10it's just eat good food which is mostly

7:12plants and not process crap

7:14don't drink alcohol and then sleep like

7:17seven eight hours a night and have lots

7:19of water

7:21and exercise doing anything

7:24provided it makes your heart go a bit

7:25faster and holds it there for a while at

7:27least 30 minutes

7:29and you sweat then that's all you really

7:33need to do

7:34right people make stuff complicated

7:37so diet and sleep what's the third one

7:40your environment

7:46environment now your environment is huge

7:49because basically

7:50you human being when you have like

7:54you as a system right you're operating

7:58within an environment

7:59right so let's let me draw this here

8:02this box

8:04let's say this is your environment

8:07and you are within this environment

8:12now you have like inputs that come in

8:15right to you and those inputs are like

8:18food

8:19water things like that and sleep but

8:22then you're operating within here the

8:24same way like

8:25a goldfish would be operating within a

8:27tank

8:28like it's important that it has inputs

8:30and things but its environment is always

8:32influencing it as well and it has to

8:34evolve with its environment

8:36now most people don't take notice of

8:38their environment

8:39and it's really quite a big one you know

8:42if you take

8:43a species that's really well evolved in

8:46say

8:47uh antarctica and you put it in the

8:48desert it'll die you take something out

8:50of the desert you put it into antarctica

8:52it'll die

8:52right a lot of these a lot of like apex

8:56predators and

8:56and species that are very well evolved

8:59they

9:00will just cease to exist if they're in

9:02the wrong environment right

9:04now this is huge like you want to make

9:07sure your environment's optimized and

9:08how you do that

9:09is by really taking a look at the next

9:13thing on this list

9:14which is your goal

9:21so it's really important that you have a

9:24goal because

9:24if you don't know what you want how do

9:26you know what to do

9:27so that you can get what you want you

9:30know most people they don't know what to

9:32do

9:32because they don't know what they want

9:35and when they don't know what

9:36to do because they don't know what they

9:37want then they don't know what they

9:39should

9:40learn or they don't know what they

9:41should think about or feel and they feel

9:43kind of anxious and frustrated because

9:45they're not doing anything

9:47or they are doing a lot but they're not

9:48making progress towards a goal which

9:50they don't know exists

9:51which is pretty crazy again most

9:54people's brain looks like this it's all

9:55over the place

9:56all right so having a goal really

10:00just cleans this up quite a lot and

10:03the way to think about it is you just

10:06want to

10:07imagine this dot is goal

10:12right and you want to clearly define it

10:14and it should be long term

10:16and by long term i mean like you want to

10:18think 10 20 30 years out

10:21now you might think why would i

10:24think that far out like the further out

10:26you think with your goal

10:28the better you know if you have a short

10:29term goal like just

10:31buy house or something right before you

10:33know it you'll actually have house

10:35and then you'll be lost again and

10:38take it from someone who used to set

10:40goals like this you know it would be

10:42great i'd have a lot of clarity and be

10:43making progress towards it but then i'd

10:45get there and then i'd be lost again

10:46right it's better to just think really

10:48long term like

10:50what do where do you want to be in 10 20

10:5230 years

10:53and then define that and then start

10:56collapsing it back

10:57until today to start thinking what are

11:00the best decisions that i can make

11:01today in order to get to here long term

11:05so define the goal and once you've

11:08defined the goal

11:10then you're able to look at

11:13the other side of this equation

11:19so we would look at this basically three

11:23sides i will

11:24put in in

11:28for now times

11:31action equals

11:35goal right

11:38so we've got two variables v1

11:43v2 and one output right

11:47output is goal now is your current

11:49situation now

11:50and action is the action you take as a

11:53human to apply

11:54to your current now and you're measuring

11:57its output

11:58as did we make progress is it going

12:01towards

12:02goal or is it going away from goal right

12:05progress or aggression

12:07now you want to basically optimize and

12:10iterate this equation so that you do

12:12more of what works and less of what

12:14doesn't right

12:15but we come back to number three

12:19environment which is this box like

12:22how do you choose the right environment

12:24well it's really

12:25dictated by your goal so let's say that

12:29your goal

12:30is to become a

12:33or like to build a big software company

12:36right

12:37well if you want to do that then you're

12:41you we come back to now and let's say

12:43right now

12:44you're living in a country that

12:47is really small like let's say you're in

12:48new zealand i know this well because i

12:50used to be there

12:51and you're thinking well my environment

12:54is kind of new zealand in the city i'm

12:55in within new zealand

12:57and my goal is this to build like a big

12:59software company

13:00is this the best environment for me to

13:02do this well how do you know

13:05well you can look at people who have

13:06achieved a goal right

13:08and who had a now at one point that was

13:11similar to

13:12yours with your environment so

13:15once you've done that you can see if

13:17they kept the environment or if they

13:18changed it

13:20and how what the pattern and the trend

13:23is there

13:24because changing your environment is one

13:26way to

13:27massively like hack and influence the

13:30achieving of your goals

13:32you really want to be in an environment

13:34and in a place

13:35that gives you an advantage so if you

13:39wanted to build a software company

13:41being in a com being in a country that

13:43has a lot of talented software engineers

13:46is an advantage right or if you wanted

13:49to for example build a space company

13:54well elon musk he had tesla

13:57in uh silicon valley right

14:00but then when he started spacex his

14:03space company

14:04he put it in hawthorne california

14:07now why would he do that right well

14:10hawthorne california especially where he

14:11put it

14:12there's a lot of aerospace things there

14:15and if you just drive past the spacex

14:17headquarters and then look at the other

14:18buildings in close proximity to that

14:21they're like lockheed martin and

14:25there's a lot of other aerospace

14:28engineering companies there

14:29that means that there's a lot of

14:31aerospace

14:33engineering talent in that area

14:36now he put it there because

14:39it it was an advantageous environment to

14:41achieve his goal

14:42which was to one day occupy mars

14:46do you see what i'm saying here so look

14:48at goal

14:49then look at environment and think

14:52how could i change my environment to

14:55better influence the achieving of the

14:57skull

14:58that is a big one and that's why i left

15:01in new

15:02zealand to go to new york because new

15:03zealand only has like four million

15:05people

15:05and america is really the best place in

15:08the world

15:09if you want to start and grow a business

15:10because there's no market quite like it

15:13and then new york to california

15:17mostly because of the talent that i

15:19needed i need a lot more

15:20software engineers and america i mean uh

15:23new york

15:23is mostly like finance and legal and

15:26things like that

15:28right and so that's why i changed my

15:31environment

15:32and so that's why elon musk chose that

15:35too plus elon musk used to live in south

15:37africa

15:38but then he moved to america because and

15:41he says this in his book too which is

15:42really good you should read it

15:43that america is the place to start and

15:46grow

15:47a business i mean i'm not saying that if

15:49you're outside of america you're screwed

15:51but it really is a there's no market

15:53quite like it it's a big one

15:55and there's a lot of people here and

15:57there's a lot of people that buy stuff

15:59and it's a very entrepreneurial kind of

16:01culture right

16:03so that is diet sleep environment goal

16:07now what else have we got we've got

16:11iterating one side of the equation this

16:14is a big one that most people

16:15royally screw up so i'll just write

16:20equation

16:22so i explained this equation to you here

16:24right you've got

16:29basically there's three sides to this

16:33one two three well this is the output

16:36here the goal and then you've got two

16:40sides of this equation here now you've

16:42got

16:43your const you've got your now and then

16:46you've got

16:47like your action that you take right

16:50what is

16:50what most people royally screw up

16:54is changing to iterating both sides of

16:58the equation

16:59right and what i mean is changing

17:02this and that at the same time or

17:05changing this

17:06that and that all at the same time right

17:08now let me give you an example

17:10so with math and with like machine

17:13learning algorithms and with your brain

17:16you have to hold a constant right

17:19and you have to iterate one side of the

17:21equation at the top at a time

17:22so first of all you must define a goal

17:25first

17:26then you decide what action you're going

17:29to take

17:30to apply it to now and then you measure

17:32that that outcome

17:34and then when you get that measurement

17:35then you decide

17:37which like what action you're going to

17:39iterate to and try next

17:41right but where people go completely

17:44wrong

17:45is they change too much stuff and it

17:47just creates chaos and they lose

17:49the causal chain of things they they are

17:52unable to find causality

17:54in the equation and in life so

17:58if i change my goal as well as changing

18:01an action

18:02and i don't achieve it what do i do

18:05was it the action or was it the goal

18:08because if i kept my goal constant and i

18:10tried that

18:11new action then maybe i would have

18:13achieved it

18:14but i don't know because i've gone and

18:17just changed everything

18:19right so when you're experimenting with

18:21things

18:22you have to hold a constant and iterate

18:26one

18:26variable and hold your goal constant too

18:29right this is why you want to think long

18:32term with your goal because if you think

18:34short term

18:34then you'll set a goal and then you'll

18:37change your mind later and then

18:39everything you've done

18:40and thought about and been experimenting

18:42with

18:43is now like corrupt because you've

18:45basically gone and changed the whole

18:46equation

18:47right so hold a constant

18:51iterate one variable at a time

18:54now what is next number six

19:00too much chaos

19:04so too much chaos is a really big

19:07problem

19:07like all of this crazy stuff that's

19:09going on around me this is chaos

19:11and most people have really chaotic

19:13brains really chaotic thinking

19:15nothing's clear so if you've got too

19:18much chaos

19:18how do you control it how do you limit

19:20that well

19:22for one you have to respect the equation

19:26you have to hold your goal constant and

19:29you have to hold one side of the

19:31equation constant and iterate one

19:32variable

19:33at a time that you have to do there is

19:36no other way to find causality

19:38because if you keep changing both things

19:41and you get a different output

19:42you don't know what thing changed that

19:45output

19:46was it this one was it that i don't know

19:48neither do you

19:50but if i hold this constant and i change

19:52this

19:53and i get a different result then i know

19:55it was this

19:56not that right that is why it's so

19:59powerful to do it that way it's the

20:01scientific method

20:02if you don't know what scientific method

20:04is google it it is a really

20:06simple really powerful way to think

20:09and have a better life but

20:12other ways to control chaos is to also

20:16look at your environment like if your

20:18environment

20:19for example if you're living with a

20:21bunch of

20:23like people who are going out and

20:24partying and coming home late every

20:26night and drinking all the time

20:28and making a ton of noise and you're

20:30trying to focus

20:31and concentrate and start a business

20:33then this is a really bad environment

20:34for this

20:35right that's a great environment for a

20:38socialite

20:39but a really bad environment for

20:40somebody who wants to start their own

20:42business and think clearly

20:44so that's another way you can decrease

20:47chaos with your environment

20:49uh another one is sleep if you're not

20:52having enough sleep things are gonna be

20:53celtic you should be getting in between

20:54seven and eight hours

20:56a night and your diet so

20:59this one's huge i notice a huge amount

21:03of turbulence when my diet changes right

21:06and i know because the day that it's

21:08kind of like my cheat day and i eat

21:10like whatever is sunday and the rest of

21:13the days i have very

21:14like strict i eat very clean but on

21:18monday

21:19is always like my most turbulent day my

21:21emotions are very wavy

21:22and it's because of really sugar and

21:24processed food

21:25like if i eat sugar like my brain

21:29doesn't behave normally and i'll just

21:30have waves of emotion

21:32and anxiety that are there for no

21:35reason so when your body's tuned well

21:39you only really have anxiety in response

21:42to some

21:43threat in your environment or something

21:46that is causing like this response

21:49right that is normal that's how your

21:51body is supposed to behave oh there's a

21:53massive tiger or a lion

21:55it could kill me anxious that is

21:58normal that is when you're tuned

22:00properly but

22:01when you're doing some emails and

22:04nothing

22:05there's no threat there's no like

22:06stimulus that would that should cause

22:08such a response

22:09and all of a sudden you just feel this

22:11wave of anxiety coming over you

22:13well that's not normal that is that

22:16means you've got a [ __ ] brain

22:18and the reason why that happens mostly

22:20to me

22:21is because of diet and sleep like i

22:25can't tell you if i if i don't have

22:26enough sleep

22:27i'll be getting worried for absolutely

22:29no apparent reason and if i eat sugar

22:31and processed foods and alcohol and

22:33stuff i'll be getting worried for no

22:34apparent reason

22:35so if your emotions like a roller

22:37coaster and you're getting anxious and

22:38there's no apparent reason

22:40why this should happen then honestly

22:42look at

22:43diet and sleep in your environment

22:46another thing you can do is control your

22:47inputs

22:48like if you're watching the news or if

22:50you're scrolling on social media looking

22:52at people dribble about

22:54like politics and trump and all of this

22:56crap

22:57then stop it like scrolling your feed

23:00and looking at people argue about

23:02politics

23:03and a bunch of like crap and watching

23:05the news and watching a bunch of people

23:07like talk about

23:09like really depressing topics and

23:12probably politics as well

23:13it's really stupid like it doesn't

23:16improve your life

23:18and it doesn't help you improve

23:19anybody's life right

23:21actually what it probably does is make

23:23you feel [ __ ] and then when you feel

23:25[ __ ] you're probably going to make a lot

23:26of other people feel [ __ ]

23:27and when they feel [ __ ] they're probably

23:28going to make a lot of other people feel

23:30[ __ ]

23:30and we get a cascading effect of

23:33shit-ness

23:34ripping through society because you were

23:38just doing something dumb right so

23:40control

23:41your inputs garbage in garbage out not

23:44only with food not only with sleep but

23:46also with information

23:47you want to really control the

23:49information that's going into your brain

23:51we are what we eat and we are

23:54also what we eat like

23:58information wise so what information you

24:00consume becomes

24:02what you think what you believe what you

24:04feel and how you behave and how you

24:06respond

24:07and react to like unfolding events in

24:10your life

24:11right so control that i don't

24:14i'm on like nobody's email list right

24:17i don't get any mail like i don't

24:20subscribe to any of that crap

24:21i don't read the news and i also

24:25don't use social media i do publish

24:27stuff to social media because a lot of

24:29you guys still use it right

24:31and then and that's the way i can get

24:33messages like this to people who need

24:35messages like this

24:36through social media so i use it as a

24:38publisher but not as a consumer

24:40i never really consume anything there

24:42unless it's intent driven

24:44and by intent driven i mean i will go to

24:47the platform with an intent

24:48search for what i'm looking for find

24:51that and get out

24:53gone i never go there just being like

24:55okay

24:56mr facebook or instagram or youtube

24:59serve me up something right i never go

25:02there because that is

25:04how you go down a rabbit hole and how

25:05you waste a day which will probably turn

25:07into like

25:0810 years right go with singular

25:11single-minded intent

25:13and once you've satisfied it get out

25:15that's how i use the platforms

25:17and they're good for that but most

25:18people don't have that sort of

25:19self-control

25:21what else have we got

25:24so too much chaos is a problem but also

25:28too much order

25:35so with our equation here let's say you

25:37hold your goal constant which is good

25:40and you are iterating this variable here

25:44right but you just don't seem to be

25:48getting

25:49any sort of progress or improvement from

25:52this equation right what does that mean

25:56well what it means is you probably got

25:58too much order

25:59and you can have too much order by

26:02having a limiting array

26:04of like variables that you're trying

26:07here

26:07right so you're

26:10you you're a bit too convergent and what

26:13you need instead is to be a bit more

26:14divergent you need a wider array of

26:17things

26:17to iterate with here and what you really

26:20want to do

26:21is invite more chaos into this variable

26:24and how you do that is really through

26:28randomness

26:29you know when i'm stuck on something and

26:31i'm trying to find and i'm iterating

26:33through different things

26:34and i'm stuck i will always use my

26:37friend

26:38randomness and what i do is i'm not even

26:41joking right now this is honestly what i

26:43do

26:43if i'm like stuck and i can't think of

26:45something i'll just walk over pick up a

26:47random book off my bookshelf

26:49and flick to a random page in it and

26:51drop my eyes down to a random paragraph

26:53in it and just read it

26:55and whatever that tells me there like

26:57whatever that idea is or whatever

26:59it generally gives me some totally

27:01random new

27:03idea or perspective on something and i'm

27:05like

27:06all right let's try that and i'll put

27:08that into here

27:10and then see how that goes because

27:13really when you're doing when you have

27:16too much order it's when

27:18you have a limited range of

27:21things for this variable and this is

27:23this this is where that's saying

27:25doing the same thing over and over again

27:27and thinking

27:28for a different result uh is

27:32is like the definition of insanity it's

27:34actually not but

27:36that saying says that and that saying's

27:38quite true you know if you're doing the

27:39same thing over and over and over again

27:41but expecting a different result

27:42you are kind of insane and that's too

27:45much order

27:46but doing too much different crap over

27:48and over again and expecting a good

27:50result

27:51is also insanity right so there's two

27:54sides of the spectrum of insanity

27:55too much chaos too much order and

27:58like just corruption of equation right

28:01you need to have a nice

28:03proper equation where you hold a

28:04constant iterate a variable

28:06and then when you're iterating the

28:07variable you want to

28:10try quite a range of different things

28:14that is where innovation comes from

28:16trying things that are

28:17very different right but still

28:20maintaining the integrity of the

28:21equation

28:23that is very helpful sometimes when i'm

28:25wondering like what budget to set for

28:27something

28:28like for a for an ad and i'm like i

28:31don't know what budget to sit for this

28:32i'll just flick a page in a book and

28:33whatever page number it is that's the

28:35budget but put it in

28:36right total randomness and where i got

28:39that from is just by observing nature

28:41nature uses randomness to help evolve

28:44nature and it's done pretty well it's

28:45still smarter than us humans

28:47and so randomness can actually help you

28:49a lot

28:50so you should use it what else have we

28:54got

28:55another example of this in nature would

28:57be like

28:58uh you know a weak species versus a

29:01strong species

29:02so in nature like the a weak species

29:05would be an

29:06inbred species right now what is

29:08inbreeding

29:09well it's when the species like mates

29:12with its own like family

29:14and it creates an offspring and really

29:17that is holding a constant

29:19and this variable is so limited here

29:23that it there's no variety in here at

29:26all

29:26so what you're doing is you're basically

29:28taking constant and constant

29:31and applying it to get something mutated

29:34an inbred

29:35all right so that is why embry species

29:38are the weakest

29:39and they they're deformed in things it's

29:40not very good

29:42but on the opposite side of the spectrum

29:45well let's try something a bit further

29:46in on the spectrum we've got

29:47a purebred species like purebred dogs

29:50purebred

29:51anything right so purebreds are actually

29:54a lot weaker and a lot more prone to

29:56sickness

29:57right than like crossbreeds right

30:01crossbreeds or like mutts or whatever

30:03they call them those

30:05they're way more strong and tough than

30:08something that's purebred and a purebred

30:10is stronger than something that's inbred

30:12right

30:13but the strongest of them all is a

30:14crossbreed and a crossbreed is when

30:17you're iterating on this variable

30:20right you might take a german shepherd

30:23and

30:23poodle and cross breed them right or you

30:26might take a german shepherd in a german

30:28shepherd

30:28that's that's going to get you an output

30:31of a purebred german shepherd

30:33but a german shepherd and a poodle is

30:35going to get you

30:36something i don't know what that is but

30:38then that would be the strongest one by

30:40the way

30:40but a german shepherd in its its sibling

30:43that gets you something a bit

30:44nasty all right so you get what i'm

30:47saying here

30:48i didn't just make this stuff up this is

30:50how it works

30:51and so in your business you really want

30:55to

30:55[Music]

30:56get outside of your space and what i

30:59mean by your space is your industry or

31:01your niche

31:02you want to know your niche but when it

31:04comes to getting ideas for this variable

31:06here

31:07you want to draw from other industries

31:10and a wide array of different sources

31:14because if you and elon musk does this

31:16very well

31:17like he'll take things he learned from

31:19silicon valley and apply it to

31:21cars for example like tesla is the first

31:25ever

31:26car that has network effects and by that

31:29i mean

31:30every mile driven by every tesla

31:33makes the cars more intelligent for all

31:35of them

31:36right and the more intelligent they get

31:38the more people want to drive a tesla

31:40and that means that they get even

31:42smarter so there's a feedback loop there

31:44and that is really like something

31:46learned from the software world

31:48right in silicon valley and he's gone

31:50the people from general motors and stuff

31:53and back in the days like people in

31:54detroit

31:55that sort of thinking just didn't exist

31:57so if you took some executives from

31:59detroit out of general motors

32:01and you got them to try and come up with

32:03something they would have

32:04a very limited range of ideas for this

32:08variable

32:08but when you take someone like elon musk

32:10and you combine

32:12software silicon valley and you combine

32:15uh car manufacturing you get some

32:19new creation right so too much order is

32:22a problem but also too much chaos

32:26what else have we got all right this

32:29eighth one is battles

32:34versus wars

32:39now this is an important one that a lot

32:42of people get stuck on

32:44so last week when i made a video about

32:46why you can't do the work because you

32:48don't love what you're doing

32:49some people i noticed in the comments

32:51they said well

32:54this is silly because you're basically

32:55just saying i shouldn't do anything that

32:57i don't like

32:59and i can't always love what i'm doing

33:01and that's true

33:02but whoever said that has a problem with

33:05their

33:06their thinking when it comes to battles

33:07versus wars and what i mean specifically

33:10is macro verse micro thinking all right

33:14now what i'll do is i'll just get a bit

33:17more

33:18space to draw here

33:21give me a sec

33:30so this is a big one that a lot of

33:32people

33:33get wrong

33:38and what it basically is and i'm gonna

33:40have to tilt this even

33:43we're improvising here

33:45[Music]

33:47so macro

33:53big

33:57micro small

34:02simple enough right now

34:06what is an example of macro verse micro

34:08right well

34:10california is a state within america

34:14so america could be called macro

34:16california could be called micro or

34:18california could be called macro

34:20and los angeles could be called micro

34:22right or

34:23united states america could be called

34:25micro and the world could be called

34:27macro or earth could be called micro

34:30universe could be called macro

34:31right what i mean is just

34:34big verse component of big

34:38aka small right so not small exclusive

34:41from big

34:42but small component of big

34:45right you get what i'm saying so we can

34:48also call this

34:50big macro could be called war

34:55and small micro could be called battle

35:00now a war is simply a sum total of

35:03battles right now you can win you can

35:06lose a battle

35:07but still win the war and you can win a

35:09battle but still

35:10lose the war right you get what i'm

35:12saying

35:13so when it comes to loving what you do

35:16right you want to love the macro

35:22right important you want to love the

35:24macro

35:25but you will not love everything you do

35:27that is micro

35:29so let me give you an example i like at

35:31the macro level building things and

35:33learning things right

35:34i really love building things and

35:37learning

35:37how to do new things no matter what it

35:39is i really enjoy it that's my passion

35:41but does that mean that i love every

35:43single minute and every single

35:44task i ever do ever no

35:48that is not true i love the macro i

35:51sometimes really dislike almost

35:54borderline hate micro

35:56let me give you an example like

35:59if i have to do uh i'll tell you some

36:02things i really dislike

36:03right so i really dislike uh

36:06tax returns and government forms and

36:09things like that they're really annoying

36:11same with payroll it's very complicated

36:13i also

36:14dislike uh dealing with

36:17benefits like employee benefits it's so

36:19complicated and it's annoying

36:21and those things i really don't like

36:24i also dislike tedious repetitive tasks

36:28like doing customer support tickets or

36:31replying to emails or even kind of

36:34political things like basically meetings

36:39and things like that i really dislike

36:41all of that stuff

36:42also dislike uh

36:46yeah anything political anything that

36:48isn't really building something right

36:50all of those things

36:51i have to do because they're laws and

36:53they're things i have to do in order to

36:55build

36:56like i need to have good benefits and

36:58payroll systems and things so that

37:00our people can get paid and be looked

37:02after i also need to file tax returns

37:05and deal with all of those government

37:06forms because

37:07that's the law and if i don't i'll

37:09probably go to jail right

37:10so i have to do these things in order to

37:13build

37:14so i have to do the micro in order to

37:17achieve the macro so really i have to do

37:20things

37:20i don't like in order to do the thing

37:23that i love

37:24right now this is an important way to

37:26think about it battles versus wars

37:28macro vs micro because when you really

37:31love the macro that's how you justify

37:35the pain and suffering of the micro so

37:37when i get

37:38to one of those tasks that i really

37:40dislike i just think

37:41it's all right it's just building it's

37:44just building it's just building

37:45right i spent the last like 12 months

37:47doing 600 job interviews to try and find

37:50like some top talent engineers it really

37:52wasn't fun i don't like talking on the

37:54phone to strangers

37:55all day every day and working that hard

37:59for so long

38:00right doing something like that i really

38:02don't like that it wasn't fun

38:04however i convinced myself by saying

38:06it's okay

38:07i'm building you can't see it now sam

38:10nothing's being built now but by getting

38:12the right person

38:14they will be able to build everything

38:15you ever want to build and they'll be

38:17able to build it fast

38:18so therefore over the long term what

38:20you're doing now doesn't look like

38:22building but it is the best way you

38:24could possibly be building

38:27in the long term you just can't see it

38:28right now right this is the argument i

38:30kept running through in my

38:32head every day when i was like the sucks

38:34the sucks the sucks

38:35get me out of here i was able to

38:38basically overlay some rationale and

38:42some logic and some reason

38:44to convince myself that what i was doing

38:45was right

38:47because it was a

38:50means towards an ultimate end that i

38:53wanted

38:54and these two were aligned so this comes

38:56back to also

38:57goal if i didn't know what my goal was

39:00i'd be sitting there doing all these job

39:01interviews being like what the hell am i

39:02doing right

39:04and it also comes back to the equation

39:07and then macro verse micro

39:10so you if you approach some

39:14task or something that you don't like

39:16doing

39:17but it's essential for you to do it in

39:19order to achieve what you love

39:20do not abandon that because that means

39:23that you're really sacrificing what you

39:25love

39:26why imagine having a child like a child

39:28is

39:29probably the the thing that humans most

39:32love out of

39:33everything that they could have right

39:35and

39:37with a child that does a child which is

39:40like macro does that come with

39:42no micro problems not true like

39:45you have to first of all be pregnant and

39:48i don't know what that's like but i'm

39:49sure it's not the most pleasant

39:51and then you have to give birth and then

39:53you also have to look after a baby in

39:55its infant years and do all of this

39:57stuff right

39:58a lot of that stuff i'm sure it's not

40:00very fun but

40:02the means the end justifies the means

40:04and

40:05the macro justifies the micro

40:08and if that wasn't true then humans

40:10would have stopped reproducing a long

40:12time ago right

40:13so that's how you want to think like

40:15that now what else have we got

40:18well there's garbage in garbage out

40:22and i've already mentioned this a few

40:23times g-i-g-o

40:26you know what a lot of people they think

40:29how did that person get so good at that

40:31or how did that person get so smart at

40:33that

40:34and why aren't i as good at that as that

40:37person

40:38is at that thing it's inputs that's it

40:41like garbage in garbage out and outputs

40:45derived from inputs there's no other

40:46thing

40:47right so if you want to

40:50be stronger you need to practice more

40:52that's the input if you want to think

40:54clearer

40:54i've already run through some of those

40:56inputs and then

40:57information like who are the five people

41:00that you spend the most time with

41:03look at those people carefully you know

41:05you want to be

41:06you are who you hang out with right

41:09you'll become who you hang out with

41:10your environment shapes you we're

41:12products of our environment

41:14you are the average of the five people

41:16you spend the most time with the people

41:17in that environment

41:18uh you are what you eat and then

41:22you know all of these things shape who

41:24you are

41:25and if you've got really crazy brain

41:28then you really want to look at these

41:29things around you

41:30right so that's a big one

41:33think of every input that comes into

41:35your information people

41:37experiences surroundings food water

41:40sleep

41:41everything going into you in every

41:43dimension

41:45is going to change who you are and you

41:47want to control those gates

41:49you're the only person that can gatekeep

41:51that and then the tenth one

41:54is just [ __ ] people

41:59right and you can't even see that

42:02but i just wrote down there [ __ ] people

42:05and this is huge you know [ __ ] people

42:08being around them like negative

42:10and just kind of like their intentions

42:14aren't good right so people who are a

42:16bit like

42:17dark with their intentions or people who

42:20just

42:21are always negative and hateful and

42:23things like this

42:24or people that always put other people

42:26down or jealous

42:28or people that are very egotistical and

42:30people who judge other people by like

42:32by all sorts of things right these

42:34people are very very very very

42:36very very very toxic and you don't want

42:39to have any of these people in your life

42:41now if it's like your parent or

42:44your kid or your uh or your wife or

42:47husband or something like that or your

42:49best friend and that they've just

42:50suddenly turned like this

42:52sure there's an exception you want to

42:53probably stay with that person and try

42:55help them and try fix them

42:57but beyond that you want to try to weed

43:00all of these people out of your life

43:02because they're going to have an impact

43:04on you a big one

43:05and it'll change the way you think and

43:08it will screw up your brain

43:09and it'll screw up your life if you let

43:10it so really

43:12this this was something i didn't really

43:15pay attention to

43:16until later in life the people that i

43:19hang out with and work with and

43:21do everything with they massively affect

43:24how i feel and how i think

43:26and all of that probably more than

43:27anything else it's people

43:30beyond probably sleep and diet sleep and

43:33diet are probably the two biggest things

43:34that swing my moods

43:36but beyond that it's probably people

43:38more than what information

43:40i read in books it's people they are

43:42really

43:43big like variables

43:47in this equation and you want to really

43:49watch

43:50who those people are and guard the gates

43:53of your life and who you hang out with

43:55and talk to

43:55really really really closely so that

43:58pretty much

43:59brings us to the end of this video and

44:02the topic was uh

44:05why your brain is [ __ ]

44:09right and it's because of chaos

44:12or maybe too much order or any of these

44:15things so i'll just run through them

44:16quickly to summarize

44:17diet you want to eat well don't drink

44:20alcohol

44:21or if you do don't drink enough to get

44:23you drunk two

44:24sleep seven to eight hours three

44:26environment have a good one

44:28one that supports achieving of the goal

44:30four have a goal make it clear

44:32it should be long term and dick let the

44:35goal dictate

44:36your actions in your environments and

44:37everything else and your inputs

44:39and then five equation hold the goal

44:42constant

44:43and one side of the equation here

44:44constant and iterate one variable

44:47and then six too much chaos too much

44:50divergence

44:51right then you want to converge it a bit

44:54collapse it

44:55and then too much order that's doing the

44:58same thing over and over and expecting a

45:00different result

45:01try randomness right use randomness

45:04or chaos or disorder or entropy to

45:09really start finding some new

45:11combinations of things new combinations

45:13of elements

45:15and then eight battles versus wars

45:18macro verse micro the macro you should

45:22love

45:23the micro you're not going to love a lot

45:25of the time but

45:26it justifies it because you have to do

45:28that to do what you love

45:30and be happy all right just like you

45:33know to be happy

45:34it's kind of a like to be happy you have

45:37to be unhappy

45:37right because to be happy you also have

45:40to

45:41like exercise and things and eat healthy

45:45but sometimes eating healthy and eating

45:47salads and things and exercising and

45:49feeling really bad

45:50in the middle of the exercise is a

45:52requirement to actually feel happy after

45:54the exercise and to feel good

45:56after eating a salad right so to be

45:59happy you have to be a bit unhappy

46:02but if you're trying to be happy all the

46:03time and probably just go hook yourself

46:04up to a morphine iv

46:06and just lie down and go to sleep right

46:09but then you're not really being happy

46:11because if you woke up from that

46:13morphine iv induced

46:15coma probably would be pretty unhappy

46:18right

46:19and then nine garbage and garbage out

46:22outputs derived from inputs you are what

46:25you eat you

46:25are who you hang out with you are a

46:27product of your environment

46:29and you want to control those inputs be

46:30the gatekeeper

46:32and 10 [ __ ] people just don't do them

46:34don't have them around

46:36weed them out make a little map of all

46:38the people you hang out with

46:39and start like optimizing that right

46:43you need to do this if you want to

46:47unfuck your brain think clearly and have

46:49a good life so if you like this video
