0:00A lot of people seem to think that

0:01insulin causes fat gain. Over here we

0:03have team pro carbs, team anticarbs.

0:06That's the amount of protein they're

0:08consuming. It's the amount of

0:09carbohydrates they're consuming. Now,

0:10team anti-carbs that think even looking

0:12at a bagel will make you obese. They

0:14need to consume more fats because they

0:15need to get their remaining calories

0:17from somewhere else. So, all the people

0:18that hate carbohydrates and think

0:19insulin is the devil will look over at

0:21this and say, "This is really unhealthy

0:22and you shouldn't eat carbohydrates."

0:23But if we ignore all of that for a

0:25second, if you were to ask someone from

0:26this camp how someone on a low carb diet

0:28was gaining fat, they'd probably say to

0:29you because they're over consuming the

0:30amount of calories that they need. So

0:31why can't they apply that same logic to

0:33both? Now the current theory from these

0:35guys is that here when carbohydrates are

0:37high, insulin is high and insulin will

0:39then take those carbohydrates and

0:41convert them into fat. A process that's

0:42called denovo lipogenesis. However, in

0:45the low carbohydrate group, you would

0:47consume more dietary fats, which are

0:49actually easier to convert to fat than

0:52converting carbohydrates into fat.

0:54Turning fat into fat doesn't even

0:55require a conversion. But what about

0:57glycemic index? We've all seen some

0:58fitness influencers must be struggling

1:00financially this time of year because

1:02they're going out there promoting little

1:03blood glucose monitors, which is always

1:05very interesting because I thought that

1:07counting calories was obsessive and bad

1:08for your mental health and it was going

1:09to send you over the edge. But putting a

1:11continuous blood glucose monitor in your

1:12arm to track every little fluctuation in

1:14blood glucose levels after every single

1:16food that you consume and then judging

1:18that food on merit consuming what's good

1:19and what's bad is completely fine. But

1:21even if you are someone that thinks

1:22glycemic index is really important when

1:24we look at the foods that we know are

1:26making people obese, pizza, burgers,

1:28those foods aren't even that high on a

1:29glycemic index. And the majority of

1:31people that can't really understand

1:33evidence, data, meta analysis, or

1:35studies on human trials, also the exact

1:37same people to point the finger at

1:38things like seed oils as being the very

1:40thing that started the obesity epidemic.

1:44The seed oils don't have a high GI

1:45effect. Seed oils don't make us produce

1:48loads of insulin. Seed oils actually

1:49back up my point that consuming too many

1:51fats would make it easier to gain

1:53weight. as a theory of thinking that

1:56carbohydrates are bad and that insulin

1:58makes you fat can make sense, but only

2:00in theory. There have been dozens of

2:02studies that have compared people eating

2:04high carbohydrate diets and highfat

2:06diets. And when calories were the same

2:08and you match protein, there was no

2:10difference or incredibly negligible

2:12differences in fat loss between the two.

2:14It is impossible to gain fat unless you

2:18are in a calorie surplus. Unless you are

2:20over consuming the amount of calories

2:21that you need on a daily basis. Insulin

2:24cannot create calories out of thin air.
