Intro

0:00every bloody person on social media is

0:02doing a flipping ice bath oh ice bath

0:04phones ice bath friends

0:10so what's the deal with ice bath are

0:12there any tangible benefits and why is

0:14every knob on social media getting in

0:15one and why did I have a nice bath every

0:17single day for the past 30 days let's

0:19get into this now suddenly anyone that

0:22spent more than two minutes submerged in

0:24cold water is a nice bath expert and one

0:26of the first things that comes out of

0:27their mouth is oh it's anti-inflammatory

0:29who [ __ ] knows what inflammation is I

0:32don't even really understand it that

0:33much but all I do know is when we weight

0:35train trying to get big trying to get

0:37bulk Hogan trying to get Lord swolder

0:40more inflammation is part of that

0:42process and if you were to jump in an

0:43ice bath after training for hypertrophy

0:45you would hinder and negate that process

0:47it would be a bad thing for the gains

0:51but we can't write ice baths off just

Cost Per Use

0:53yet let's talk about cost and let's talk

0:55about barrier to entry because often how

0:57expensive something is there's a real

0:58barrier to entry for people to do it so

1:00you can get a bag of ice for like one

1:02pound fifty so let's say you get five

1:03bags of ice let's call it seven pounds

1:0550. all you need is a bathtub or a big

1:08bucket and you can be having what's

1:09perceived to be a remedial therapeutic

1:12experience within your own home for less

1:15than a [ __ ] chicken wrap at Nando's

1:17if you were to go down the route of

1:18maybe acupuncture or getting a massage

1:20you're going to be looking at like five

1:22six seven times that and you might end

1:24up with someone minging rubbing you down

1:27now seven pound fifty doesn't seem like

1:29a lot of money but then the compounding

1:30interest of doing that over and over and

1:32over amount of time would actually be

1:34quite expensive and cost per use is one

1:37of the best tools you could ever use to

1:38determine whether or not you should

1:39purchase something so seven pound fifty

1:41but what happens if you want to have a

1:42nice bath every day that works out to

1:452737.50 a year so therefore if you were

1:48to buy one of the fancy tubs with the

1:50chiller it would be more expensive but

1:52you would get a return on investment

1:53because of the cost per use within a

1:55year or two but it's still quite a bit

1:56of commitment so next time you're

1:58debating whether or not to get something

1:59expensive like the camera I'm using or

2:01this laptop just divide it by the amount

2:02of times you would use it because often

2:04it makes sense and what you don't want

2:06to do is [ __ ] waste money on [ __ ]

2:09you'll never use like a stupid [ __ ]

2:11Gucci t-shirt that cost 400 pounds that

2:14you wore six times it works out like

2:17[ __ ] 75 pounds each time you wore it

2:19but you'd have to be a [ __ ] idiot to

2:21do that

Proclaimed Benefits

2:22now there are a lot of proclaimed

2:24benefits with ice baths such as a raisin

2:26dopamine and I will admit that getting

2:28out the ice bath is the [ __ ] best bit

2:30because you're like holy [ __ ] that

2:31[ __ ] little experience is over and

2:34there are some people that allude to the

2:35fact that maybe a nice bath and the

2:36hormones that are released during the

2:38experience may help with depression but

2:39I think that depression is too much of a

2:41complex discussion for me to say yeah if

2:43you're depressed just get in cold water

2:45you'll be fine but one thing I will say

2:46is I have a very active brain and it's

2:48always and I very much struggle to relax

2:51and I've never been able to meditate

2:53[ __ ] I can't even sit still without

2:55wondering random things like when deaf

2:58people see someone yawn do they think

3:00that person is screaming but my

3:02experience has been with ice baths that

3:03sometimes when I get in my heart rate

3:06plummets and it's almost the calmest few

3:08minutes of my day I close my eyes I

3:10focus on my breath I try not to die and

3:13it's like time slightly changes in there

3:15sometimes three minutes can go past in

3:1730 seconds

3:19and my mind drifts off so from a

3:21meditative standpoint it's probably the

3:23only time in the day I'm peaceful but if

3:25we get down to the real nitty-gritty as

3:26to why people are wanking off the ice

3:27bath and [ __ ] bumming it it's this

3:29Andrew huberman the smart bastard has

3:31alluded to the fact that you only need

3:33to expose yourself to this very cold

3:34water for 11 minutes a week that's only

3:37one and a half minutes a day when has

3:39there ever been such a short easy short

3:41buy-in to experience potential health

3:43benefits in history never imagine if a

3:46running coach said to you oh yeah just

3:47run for [ __ ] two minutes a day and

3:49you can get benefits from it but a nice

3:51bath isn't even running it's easier than

3:53a [ __ ] running when I get in the ice

3:54bath I think to myself James you haven't

3:56even gotta work I haven't even got to do

3:57anything you just got to sit in it all

3:58you've got to do is not get out so

4:00you're getting rewarded not from action

4:01you're getting rewarded from inaction I

4:03don't even have to do something I have

4:05to not do something get in there James

4:07and don't open your eyes until the music

4:09goes off which I know what music I'm

4:10using don't ask why but for some reason

4:12it's this song

Popularity

4:22it must be like Pavlov's dog because

4:24every time I've heard that for the last

4:2630 days it means James you can get out

4:27this heinously horrible stupidly [ __ ]

4:29freezing bath to get on with your day

4:31and think of it this way let's say you

4:32commit to three minutes which I do I do

4:34three minutes at six Celsius and some

4:36people go oh yeah but James you should

4:38do colder I'm like but I'm in there for

4:40three minutes and it feels like a good

4:41amount to me and the rule is that the

4:43colder it is the shorter amount of time

4:44you have to be in there cool but as long

4:46as you're willing to reduce the

4:47temperature over time you never have to

4:49spend more time in there it's only three

4:51minutes and when you look at three

4:52minutes we're supposed to train for an

4:53hour a day we're supposed to do this do

4:55this do this it's a very small

4:57commitment and if you are getting the

4:58purported benefits of feeling better

5:00dopamine whatever it's not a lot of put

5:03in to get something out and I get that

5:05but it has become a virtue signal Jesus

5:07Christ almighty alive people are

5:09literally there look at me I'm in a nice

5:11bath I'm in a nice bath you're

5:13struggling to pay the bills I'm not only

5:15paying for my heating and rims I'm not

5:16even using I'm at the same time spent

5:18money on ice I'm paying extra money to

5:20get cold during the recession as you're

5:22struggling to stay warm if I'm honest

5:25has my dopamine gone through the roof

5:27not a huge amount but that short period

5:30of time when I get out I'll go as far to

5:31say that I have not noticeably noticed

5:34any Improvement in my recovery nor has

5:37my heart rate variability or resting

5:38heart rate increased at all since

5:41exposing myself to 15 to 20 minutes of

5:44very cold water each week not many of

5:46any of the purported benefits of I

5:47experienced but

5:49I will continue to take a nice bath

5:51every morning it's an attitude thing man

Outtro

5:53when you wake up you make your [ __ ]

5:55bed now there are no real benefits to

5:57making your bed apart from it makes it

5:59look nice but you make your bed because

6:01it sets you up for the rest of the day

6:02ultimately you want to get as many

6:04things [ __ ] checked off the list

6:06throughout the day Small Things big

6:07things little things you want to go to

6:09bed at night and put your head down

6:10knowing that you gave everything you

6:11could off to the end of that day now if

6:13you start a day without making your bed

6:14you're off to a [ __ ] start you can't get

6:16100 for the day if you can't get that

6:18first thing done so you get up and

6:20everything inside you says Oh No One's

6:22Gonna know if I don't make the bed but

6:23you [ __ ] make it because you should

6:24it's an attitude thing and the ice bar

6:26thing to me is that as well there is

6:28something I don't want to do

6:29irrespective of it has benefits for me

6:31or not will getting in that [ __ ] cold

6:34tub of shitty [ __ ] water set me up

6:37for the day yeah and the majority of

6:39things that we should do on a daily

6:41basis don't scream to us let's do it I

6:43love the ice bath I also hate the ice

6:45bath I think it's great and also I think

6:46it's [ __ ] rubbish I think that we

6:48should tell everyone about the benefits

6:51I mentioned here but also we will need

6:52to shut the [ __ ] up and stop talking

6:54about ice baths so why don't you let me

6:55know your experiences with ice baths and

6:57cold water therapy in the comments and

6:58then we can become nice bath friends

7:00thanks for watching
