0:00We have this white powder in front of
0:02me.
0:04You've got a big smile on your face.
0:06I do because there is just so much
0:09benefit to this, depending on which
0:11brand you bought, of course. But
0:13I can't say enough about creatine. I
0:17have my parents on creatine. They're 71
0:20years old. I've got my dad on high dose
0:22creatine. I've got my mother on low dose
0:24creatine. It's the most widely studied
0:27supplement on the market. I think that
0:29this is a really cheap and effective way
0:33to get everything you want from both
0:35your physiology and upgrade on your
0:37physiology and your neurophysiology.
0:40Creatine is a naturally occurring
0:42molecule. We produce around 2 to 3 g of
0:45creatine per day. Gets secreted from a
0:47bit from the brain, but a lot from the
0:49liver. 2 to 3 g a day is great, but it's
0:51not enough. So, we have to supplement
0:53with it. And all through the '90s and
0:56all through the 2000s, people were
0:57supplementing with 5 g a day. That is
0:59the scoop here. 5 g of creatine per day.
1:02We have found that creatine has enormous
1:05benefits for the brain. But here's the
1:07problem.
1:08When you have 5 g of creatine, you're
1:11saturating the muscles. Okay, remember,
1:14the muscles are so hungry, so they get
1:16first dibs, and they take up all of that
1:18creatine. So, then there's none left for
1:20the brain. We also lose a bit of the
1:22bioavailability when the creatine goes
1:25into the brain. It crosses the
1:26blood-brain barrier, but when it goes
1:27into the brain, we lose some of it. So,
1:30we have to supplement with more than 5
1:33g.
1:34And one of the studies that changed my
1:37thinking came out last year. It was the
1:38first ever pilot study done on
1:41Alzheimer's disease patients. You're
1:43talking about patients whose brains are
1:45under attack. They're in an energetic
1:48crisis. They cannot produce energy
1:51effectively. ATP is all skewed. Brain
1:55glucose metabolism is skewed. They don't
1:57remember left from right. Cognitive
1:58functions are declined. They put them on
2:01a 20 g of creatine per day. These
2:05patients not only preserved their
2:08cognitive functions, but they had more
2:11energy, and they were able to exercise
2:14more. It can protect your brain against
2:16a concussion. It can protect your brain
2:18brain against a stroke. It can protect
2:20your brain from stress. The best thing
2:23about creatine is that it works in the
2:24background of stress. I think that's
2:27where most That's where you'll get most
2:29of the benefits from.
