0:01I grew up in such a difficult ,
0:02exhausting home . You might think that
0:05means we were dirt poor . That wouldn't
0:10be wrong , but when I say exhausting ,
0:12I’m purely talking about my parents .
0:15To put it nicely , they were good people
0:18, but to put it bluntly , they were
0:21gullible and immature . If someone said
0:24something , they’d believe it , and if
0:26someone asked for a favor , they
0:27couldn't say no . The problem was that
0:31not everyone in this world is as kind
0:33as my parents . There are people who
0:37take advantage if you look easy , and
0:39people who swarm once they smell money .
0:41Yet , even when they met people like
0:44that , they never thought to be
0:46suspicious . So they’d trust easily ,
0:49get cheated easily , and always end up
0:51losing out . Of course , they’d be
0:54upset and suffer emotionally after
0:57taking a loss . But usually , after
1:00getting burned once , people become
1:02careful , right ? Not my parents .
1:05They’d just go and trust someone else
1:07. Even more bizarre was their talent
1:10for justifying the losses they suffered
1:12. If someone they trusted betrayed them
1:15, they’d say the person must have had
1:18a reason , and if they got swindled ,
1:20they’d say they must have been
1:22desperate . Eventually , they’d just
1:24brush it off , saying everything comes
1:25back around eventually . Before the
1:28other person could even apologize , they
1:30had already forgiven them in their own
1:32minds . Watching from the sidelines ,
1:36I’d wonder who exactly was the one
1:38who actually lost their money . Some
1:41might say that’s actually a good
1:43thing . Isn’t it better to shake
1:47things off quickly than to spend years
1:49crying over a betrayal ? But you don't
1:53know unless you've actually been
1:55through it . You don't know how
1:57infuriating and maddening it is for the
1:59person standing right next to them . My
2:02father even once had his whole business
2:05swindled away by someone he trusted .
2:08Because of that , we became debtors and
2:10spent nearly a year on the run . But
2:12even while we were hiding out , the
2:14things he’d say to me on the phone
2:17remained the same . " Are you holding up
2:19okay , my daughter ? " " I’m looking into
2:22a few things here , too , so don’t
2:24worry too much . " " Hey , life is full of
2:27all sorts of ups and downs , you know ? " "
2:32It feels like we're dying right now ,
2:34but later we'll look back and laugh
2:35about all the crazy things we went
2:37through . " That was when I finally lost
2:41my patience and ended up shouting at
2:43him on the phone . " Dad , how can you say
2:46such thoughtless things right now ? " "
2:49Your daughter is on a break from
2:51college , running around doing tutoring
2:53jobs all day . " " Sometimes I just eat a
2:55roll of kimbap for lunch , and your son
2:57can't even pay for his academy or
2:59school meals , so what’s this about
3:00laughing later ? " " Does our situation
3:03look funny to you right now ? " " Alright ,
3:05alright . " " My daughter is really upset . "
3:08" I wasn't saying that our situation is
3:11funny , you know . " " But we can't just
3:13spend our whole lives crying , can we ? "
3:15I’m not just goofing off , Dad is
3:17still looking into how to find that
3:18person . If we hold out a little longer ,
3:21something is bound to work out . Every
3:23day is pure torture right now , so why
3:25talk about the future ? When the time
3:27comes to laugh , Dad can laugh all he
3:28wants on his own . My mother wasn't any
3:31different . She said , " At least our
3:33daughter is smart , so you know how to
3:35make money even at times like this . "
3:37Honestly , hearing that made me feel a
3:39bit relieved . " I guess I don't have to
3:42worry too much about you and me anymore
3:44. " " Oh my , whose daughter is so capable ?
3:46" If it had ended there , I might have
3:49held it in just this once . My mom said
3:53her arms and knees hurt too much , so
3:55she absolutely couldn't work at the
3:56restaurant anymore . Then she asked if
3:59she could just trust me and take a
4:02break now . That was when I snapped back
4:05at her . " Mom , do you know how much
4:07money Dad blew away ? " " Now that I'm
4:09earning a few cents tutoring , you want
4:11to take a break ? " " Mom , Dad , you always
4:14only understand other people's
4:15situations . " " The person who ran off
4:17with our money must have had a reason . "
4:18" The person who got the bad loan
4:20guarantee must have had a reason . " " Now
4:22that you're sick , I have to understand
4:24too , but what about me ? " " Who is going
4:26to understand me ? " I’m struggling too
4:29, and I want to go to school like
4:30everyone else . I told them it's their
4:33choice to be " good people " to everyone
4:35around them and to be the type who
4:37can't say no to favors . But I argued ,
4:40why do I have to be the one who suffers
4:43because of that ? I ended up kicking my
4:45mom out of my studio apartment . Don't
4:49parents in other families grit their
4:51teeth and work themselves to the bone
4:52to avoid burdening their children ? I
4:55was just so fed up with it all . So I
4:58told her flat out that she needs to
5:00figure out how to feed herself on her
5:02own . Some of you might think I was too
5:06harsh with my words . But truthfully ,
5:08everything I said was right , wasn't it ?
5:12Maybe my father was shocked by it ,
5:14because he finally tracked down the
5:17person who ran off with our money .
5:20That’s how we managed to get a place
5:22for our family to live together again .
5:25Since then , my mom finally did that
5:28restaurant work for over 10 years and
5:30managed to scrape by . Of course , that
5:33didn't mean we could recover the
5:35fortune they had lost . If I , their own
5:38child , was so disgusted by them , how do
5:40you think the relatives felt ? They had
5:43all long since cut ties with us . Well ,
5:47I understand them . If my own parents
5:49made me sick to my stomach , why would
5:51it be any different for my relatives ?
5:54Still , they haven't caused any major
5:56trouble since then . But don't get the
5:59wrong idea that they finally came to
6:01their senses . It was just a matter of
6:04course . Even if they wanted to cause
6:06trouble , they didn't have the money to
6:07do so . They had no money to guarantee
6:10loans , no money to lend to others , and
6:13no money to start a business , so the
6:15trouble naturally stopped . Because of
6:18that , I ended up becoming quite a
6:20prickly person . I didn't open up easily
6:22to people , so making friends wasn't
6:25exactly a simple task . Of course , there
6:28were times when I felt lonely . But then
6:30again , there were times when I
6:32preferred it that way . When you're
6:35lonely on your own , you only have
6:36yourself to deal with , but if you trust
6:38the wrong person and get stabbed in the
6:40back , you’ve got another problem to
6:42solve . It took me six years to graduate
6:44from college . There was no special
6:47reason ; I just didn't have any money .
6:50Whenever I couldn't pay tuition , I’d
6:52take a break to work and then go back
6:53to school once I saved up enough . So , I
6:56took on any job I could find — I’ve
6:58done just about every part-time gig
7:00imaginable . That’s how , long after
7:02everyone else , I finally managed to
7:04graduate . But perhaps my hard work
7:07wasn't entirely in vain , as I luckily
7:09landed a job at a good company . My work
7:12life was pretty ordinary . I was
7:14recognized as a capable employee who
7:16handled her tasks cleanly and
7:18efficiently . But if there was one
7:20shortcoming , it was that I couldn't
7:22really get close to my coworkers . I had
7:25been that way since I was a student , so
7:27I wasn't suddenly going to become warm
7:29and friendly just because I got a job .
7:32Then , a new temp joined our team . She
7:37was the complete opposite of me — such
7:39a bright and bubbly girl . Hello . I'm
7:43Choi Yu-jin , the new temp . There's
7:45still a lot I don't know , so I’ll
7:47probably be asking you a lot of
7:48questions in the beginning . I look
7:50forward to working with you . Oh , you
7:52don't need to be so nervous . Everyone
7:55is new at first . While you get settled ,
7:57I’ll show you the system and the
8:00files a bit later . The team manager is
8:02treating us to coffee to celebrate —
8:04Yu-jin , what would you like ? It’s
8:05your first day , so it must be a bit
8:06hectic , right ? Oh , then I’ll go pick
8:09them up . Please let me know what
8:11everyone wants . I'll head down and be
8:13right back . Wait , I heard earlier that
8:15Manager Park was having an Americano ,
8:18right ? Oh my , you've got sharp ears .
8:21You were listening to that ? Strangely
8:23enough , she kept reaching out warmly
8:25even to me , someone whom everyone else
8:27found a bit difficult . Even when I
8:30responded curtly , she would come back
8:32the next day as if nothing happened and
8:35offer to help with little things .
8:37Perhaps she was just naturally warm and
8:40bright ? And at that time , I had finally
8:42gained a little bit of breathing room
8:44myself . I had graduated , landed a good
8:47job , and had a steady paycheck , so
8:50there was less of a need to live my
8:52life constantly guarding myself against
8:54everyone . In that state , since she was
8:58such a bright girl who kept smiling and
9:00looking after me , I slowly started to
9:01grow fond of her . Then one day , she
9:04asked me to buy her dinner . Manager
9:08Park , there’s a restaurant I’ve had
9:11my eye on for a while , and the moment I
9:13saw it , I thought you’d love it too .
9:16In that sense , would you mind buying me
9:19dinner just this once ? I mean , I’m
9:22always buying you coffee and bringing
9:24you snacks . You’re funny , Yu-jin .
9:28When did I ever ask you to bring me
9:29snacks ? You bring them on your own and
9:32then hold it over my head ? Forget it .
9:34What do you want to eat ? I'll treat you
9:37as long as it's not too expensive .
9:39Really ? I knew you'd say that ,
9:42Assistant Manager Park . You're always
9:46so cute . I figured , why not grab a meal
9:48, so I said yes . But when I got to the
9:51place , there was a man sitting there . I
9:55definitely came out because she said
9:57she'd buy me dinner , but it turned out
9:59to be a blind date . She told me she set
10:03it up because she thought he’d be a
10:05good match for me or something . She
10:09said he was a great guy and we should
10:11hit it off ; she was always meddling in
10:13people's love lives . It’s not like I
10:17hadn't had a fling here and there , but
10:19I’d been on a long dating hiatus .
10:21Naturally , I was a bit taken aback . But
10:24I didn't hate it , either . I figured
10:27since I was already there , I might as
10:29well eat . The person who showed up was
10:32my current husband . At first glance , he
10:35had a good impression and seemed like a
10:37solid , decent person . The meal went
10:40naturally and was quite pleasant . We
10:42met a few more times and started dating
10:45right away . I thought he was someone
10:48who met every single one of my criteria
10:51. My husband liked me just as much . We
10:55started preparing for marriage not long
10:57after we met . I thought that was
11:00perfectly reasonable . We were both over
11:0330 and had stable jobs , after all . I
11:07figured we were two people at the right
11:09age who happened to meet and like each
11:11other , so it was destiny . I wasn’t 19
11:14anymore , and I liked to think I was a
11:16good judge of character . I thought he
11:20would be a good partner since I’d
11:22carefully checked all the boxes . Though
11:25, I’m not sure if it was truly the
11:28best choice . Anyway , that’s how I
11:31ended up marrying my husband . My
11:33husband was an average office worker .
11:36Raised in a good home , graduated from a
11:39decent university , and with a good job
11:41— he had that " average " profile every
11:44single woman looks for . But don't
11:46mistake " average " for meaning " nothing
11:49special . " Any woman at a marriageable
11:52age would know what I mean . Meeting a
11:55guy who meets all those " average "
11:57expectations is actually harder than
11:58you'd think . On top of that , he had
12:01great manners . He listened to me well
12:04and respected my opinions . He was
12:08always the type to put me first in
12:10everything . His parents were kind and
12:12reasonable people , too . Most of all , I
12:16was grateful that they liked and cared
12:18for me . Who wouldn't be happy to be
12:23welcomed by their future in-laws ? I was
12:26just incredibly thankful . His parents
12:29had a good relationship as well . They
12:31were well-off , and the atmosphere in
12:33their home was soft and pleasant . It
12:36was a family that truly cared for one
12:38another ; it was a vibe I rarely saw in
12:41my own home , so I really loved it . Once
12:45I married him , I would become part of
12:46that family , after all . I was looking
12:48forward to that much . Maybe I was even
12:51more impressed by my in-laws ' character
12:53and the family atmosphere than by my
12:55husband . I told you before about the
12:58kind of home I grew up in . So , it was
13:01bound to look even better to me .
13:04Sometimes I even wondered if I had met
13:06a person and a family that were way out
13:08of my league . Coming from someone as
13:11picky as me , that says a lot . Plus , my
13:15husband had such a neat personality . He
13:18never relied on anyone , never expected
13:21extra favors , and didn't take losses .
13:24He was truly precise . Since I’m the
13:28type of person who welcomes that with
13:30open arms , we split our wedding costs
13:32exactly in half . Of course , when we
13:35bought the house , my in-laws helped out
13:37, so my husband held a larger share .
13:40But even that was precise . He divided
13:43the ownership exactly according to the
13:45amount of money he put in . Honey ,
13:47let’s not get a headache over money
13:50while preparing for our wedding ; why
13:52don't we just go 50/50 ? If you
13:55contribute something , I’ll match it ,
13:58and we can split things like the venue
14:01and furniture , because I hate it when
14:04people say " I did this much for you "
14:07later on . Yeah , that would be much more
14:11comfortable . I’m a woman , but I don't
14:15like the idea of me having to provide a
14:17dowry and you being forced to buy the
14:19house . It’s just us two getting
14:22married , so why not just split what’s
14:24needed ? That way , there’s no reason
14:26to argue about who did more or less
14:28later . Exactly . Since your parents
14:32can't help much with the house , you
14:34don't have to force a 50/50 split there
14:36; let's just count your contribution
14:38and split the rest ourselves . We can
14:42match our wedding gifts , and pay for
14:43the reception based on the number of
14:45guests for each side , right ? Why make
14:48it complicated ? Sounds good . If I knew
14:51we’d reach an agreement this fast , I
14:52would have asked sooner . I was a bit
14:56worried you’d say we should do things
14:59like everyone else . But it’s great
15:02that we’re on the same page . Let’s
15:04just match everything we do from start
15:07to finish . I was extremely satisfied
15:11with that . What do I despise the most ?
15:15It’s people who do things for others
15:16and then complain about being taken
15:18advantage of later . That’s why I
15:20liked my husband’s precise nature
15:22even more . I wasn't doing too bad
15:24myself , so I thought it was only
15:26natural . But you know that old saying .
15:29You dig your own grave and shape your
15:32own destiny . My husband was precise —
15:35too precise — and as sharp as a knife .
15:40He never liked to lose even a little
15:42bit . But the thing is , there were no
15:45exceptions , even for his wife . I mean ,
15:48can marriage really be cut and dry like
15:51balancing a ledger ? In life , there are
15:54times when I might do more housework ,
15:56and times when I might do less .
15:58Sometimes I spend more , and sometimes I
16:01spend less . I thought that was just a
16:04natural part of living together . But my
16:07husband was extremely offended by it .
16:11If I was sick and couldn't do the
16:12dishes on my turn , he would immediately
16:15get annoyed . There was a time when I
16:18forgot my card on a day I was supposed
16:21to pay for dinner . I mean , he could
16:24just pay for it , right ? And he actually
16:28did pay . But it didn't end there . " Ugh ,
16:33why can't you even keep track of one
16:35card ? " " It's your turn to pay today . " "
16:39You always carry it in your bag , so why
16:42leave it behind and make me pay ? " " Can't
16:45you get things like this right for once
16:47? " " Oh , anyone can forget sometimes . " "
16:51It's not like I hid the card on purpose
16:53just to make you pay . " " Can't you just
16:56send it to me right now ? " " Why are you
16:58treating me like I'm brainless just
17:00because you covered the bill once ? " " I
17:03said , since we're home , send it now . " "
17:07Don't tell me you'll send it later
17:09after changing clothes , just pull out
17:10your phone . " " It's 78,000 won . " " You saw
17:14me pay it earlier , didn't you ? " " Why
17:15keep pushing off something that could
17:17be done right now ? " " Wow , I haven't even
17:20taken off my shoes yet . " " Are you really
17:23demanding money the second we walk
17:25through the door ? " " Are you afraid I'm
17:27going to run away tonight with 78,000
17:29won ? " " I said I'd give it to you . " " I
17:31said I would . " " Why treat me like I'd
17:33stiff you if even a single day goes by ?
17:35" He was annoyed all the way home , and
17:38the moment we walked in , he caused a
17:39scene demanding I transfer the money . I
17:42don't know if he thought I'd run away
17:44or what , but he never let a single day
17:46slide . On top of that , what annoyed me
17:49most were the gifts for both sides of
17:50the family . My mom’s birthday came up
17:54first . Since we agreed to spend the
17:56same amount on gifts for both families ,
17:58I went to the department store and
18:00bought her one . Then , it was my
18:02mother-in-law’s birthday . So we went
18:05to the department store again , and my
18:08husband insisted very strongly on
18:10something . He demanded I buy the exact
18:13same thing I got for my mom . He said
18:16since different items have different
18:18prices , I should just buy the same
18:19thing . If he wanted them to be
18:22identical that badly , I had no reason
18:24to object . So I intended to buy the
18:27exact same thing . But as it happened ,
18:30the department store was having a sale .
18:33Thanks to that , I bought it a bit
18:35cheaper than when I bought my mom’s
18:37gift . It wasn't like a half-off sale or
18:41anything . The difference wasn't even
18:4420,000 won . I actually thought it was a
18:46good thing . Isn't it a good thing to
18:49get the same item for a lower price ?
18:52But when my husband saw it , he got
18:55incredibly angry . " Wait a minute . " " Why
18:58is the price like this ? " " It's cheaper
19:00than what you bought for my
19:01mother-in-law . " I told you clearly that
19:03we should keep things equal . After
19:04agreeing to treat both sides the same ,
19:06if you sneakily buy a cheaper gift for
19:08my mom's birthday , what does that make
19:10me ? What are you talking about ? This is
19:12the exact same product as the one we
19:13bought for your mom . You're the one who
19:15told me not to buy something different
19:17and get the same thing . So I picked up
19:19the same thing , but the store had a
19:21sale — what am I supposed to do ? Did I
19:23tell them to lower the price for your
19:25mother's birthday ? If it got cheaper
19:28because of a sale , you should have
19:30chosen something else . If we spend
19:32100,000 won on my mother-in-law , we
19:34should spend 100,000 won on my mom to
19:36make it fair . It’s not about the item
19:39being the same , it’s that the money
19:41spent on both sides must be equal . Do I
19:43really have to explain that to you one
19:45by one ? Wow , you are truly exhausting .
19:49The difference is only a few thousand
19:51won . It’s not even 20,000 won . And I
19:53didn't haggle for it ; it was cheaper
19:55because of a sale . How does that make
19:57it seem like I’m favoring my side of
19:59the family ? I bought the exact same
20:01item like you said , and now you want
20:03the cost to be the same too ? Should I
20:05ask the cashier at the counter not to
20:06give me the sale price and charge me
20:07the original amount instead ? He even
20:10went as far as to call me selfish . He
20:13claims I only think about my own family
20:15? Just because of a sale where there
20:17isn't even a 20,000 won difference , I
20:19suddenly became a selfish person who
20:21only cares about her own parents . Then ,
20:24for my dad’s next birthday , my
20:25husband purposefully chose something
20:27cheap . I didn't know what he was doing ,
20:30so I suggested we just buy something
20:32more expensive for his father's
20:34birthday instead . Then the money spent
20:37on both sides would end up being
20:39similar , right ? But my husband asked
20:41why we should spend more money . He
20:43insisted on the cheaper gift until the
20:45end , saying we should just do it this
20:47way . As a result , the gift for my
20:49parents ended up being way too cheap .
20:52No matter what I said , he wouldn't even
20:54listen . His attitude was that if I
20:56didn't like it , I should pay for it
20:58with my own money . It really upset me
21:00to see him acting like that over a
21:02measly 20,000 won . But it wasn't just
21:05about money ; my husband was cold like
21:07that about everything . He only did the
21:09chores that were strictly assigned to
21:11him . No matter how busy I was or how
21:13exhausted I was from working overtime ,
21:15if the dishes — which were my chore —
21:16were piling up , he’d get annoyed and
21:18ask when I was going to do them . " You
21:20look busy , shall I do them for you
21:22today ? " There was never anything like
21:24that . If it wasn't his job , he was
21:26finished with it . Then , one day , I
21:29finally exploded . I had a cold and had
21:32been working overtime , so I hadn't been
21:34able to sleep at all . I would leave for
21:37work without even eating at home , and
21:39when I got back late at night , I would
21:42just sleep and then leave again . But as
21:45I was spending those chaotic days , the
21:48dishes just kept piling up in the sink .
21:51The reason was simple . Because doing
21:55the dinner dishes was my responsibility
21:57. Whether I was busy or had a cold
22:00didn't matter ; it was my chore , so he
22:02insisted I do it . " Honey , when are you
22:06going to do those dishes ? " It’s been
22:08piling up for days already . It drives
22:10me crazy seeing the sink such a mess .
22:13How can you say that after looking at
22:15me right now ? I’ve had a cold , been
22:17taking meds , and working overtime for
22:19three days straight . I barely come home
22:22to sleep , when would I have the energy
22:24to do dishes ? Still , we agreed on these
22:28rules together , shouldn't you at least
22:30finish your tasks no matter how busy
22:33work is ? Honey , that’s really harsh .
22:38If you see me struggling , can't you
22:39just do it for me once ? And I haven’t
22:42even eaten at home these past few days .
22:45Almost all those dishes are yours
22:47anyway . Why does it matter who used
22:50them ? Evening dishes are your
22:52responsibility . I do my chores even
22:54when I’m tired . If I started doing
22:56yours just because you're busy , what
22:58was the point of dividing them in the
23:00first place ? We should each stick to
23:02our own duties . He was certainly
23:04consistent . If only he had been
23:07consistent in a good way . So , I snapped
23:10and didn't do them either . I mean ,
23:12I’m only human , what was I supposed
23:14to do ? I literally only had time to
23:16grab a glass of water at home . I
23:20thought he wasn't helpless , so he’d
23:22eventually do it himself . But one night
23:26, I got home near 11 PM , and the whole
23:29house smelled like food from the front
23:32door . I looked to see what it was , and
23:35my husband had ordered takeout and left
23:38it there . The leftovers , the dishes , he
23:41hadn't cleared a thing . He just left it
23:44all there , as if to spite me . The
23:47moment I saw it , I was so furious I
23:49even questioned if this was what
23:51marriage was supposed to be . So , I
23:54couldn't take it anymore . I just threw
23:57the takeout he left on the floor and
24:00walked out of the house . I was too
24:03annoyed to go to my parents ' , so I just
24:05checked into a motel near work and lay
24:07down . Staring up at the ceiling , I felt
24:12so pathetic . That was the first time I
24:16ever thought about divorce . I know
24:19marriage has its hardships , but
24:21thinking about doing this for the rest
24:24of my life felt overwhelming . Even
24:28after I ran out like that , he contacted
24:30me the next day and said the same thing
24:32. He said I should do my part , and why
24:37did I only consider my work to be " work
24:39" while ignoring housework ? On top of
24:44that , he had the nerve to say he never
24:46knew I was so irresponsible . So , I told
24:49him if this is how we're going to live ,
24:51let’s just get a divorce . I knew
24:53talking further would just be repeating
24:56the same arguments . And I called my
24:58mother-in-law right away . I told her I
25:01couldn’t live like this anymore . I
25:04didn't want to bring my marital
25:05problems to my in-laws if I could help
25:07it , but I really felt like I’d
25:09reached the end . Hearing that , my
25:12parents-in-law were shocked and rushed
25:14over to the house . It turns out they
25:17were actually well aware of that side
25:19of their son . " I am so , so sorry . "
25:25He’s always been strict about keeping
25:27things separate since he was a kid , but
25:29I thought he'd change once he had a
25:31family of his own . But I never imagined
25:35he’d nag someone who was sick about
25:37not doing the dishes and even drive
25:39them out of the house . That’s right ,
25:41you jerk ! Your wife was just resting on
25:44the sofa and didn't do the dishes ?
25:48Working late and coming home only to
25:50have you nitpick over whose turn it is
25:52— what kind of marriage is that ?
25:56Thankfully , the two of them gave him a
25:58good scolding , and since he apologized
26:00sincerely at the time , we managed to
26:02move past it . Of course , there were
26:05still various incidents after that .
26:07Every time that happened , I fought with
26:09my husband , talked it through , and
26:11barely managed to work things out . It
26:14honestly felt like I was completing a
26:17mission every single day . Then , my
26:19mother-in-law carefully brought up the
26:22topic of having a child . She suggested
26:25that we consider having a baby soon .
26:28She said if we had a child , my husband
26:31might change a little , so we should
26:33both try . I thought about it after
26:35hearing her advice . I mean , we’re
26:38already married , and we can't just keep
26:41fighting forever . I decided that I
26:44should make a plan and put more effort
26:47into our marriage . Of course , my
26:50husband wasn't very thrilled about this
26:53plan . We had originally promised to
26:56wait about three years after marriage
26:58to have a child . So , my husband had
27:00been using contraception all this time .
27:03Changing the plan so suddenly didn't
27:06sit well with him . " I honestly don't
27:10like changing the plan all of a sudden .
27:12" " We talked about this when we got
27:14married . " " We said we’d live together
27:16for three years and then have a baby .
27:19It hasn't been that long , and it feels
27:21too rushed to just have one because we
27:23had a big fight . " " I'm not saying that
27:27having a baby will solve everything
27:29just because we fought . " " I'm not that
27:32thoughtless , but this incident just
27:34gave me a lot to think about . " " If we
27:38keep living like this , don't you think
27:40we'll keep fighting until we eventually
27:42can't stand the sight of each other ? " "
27:45That's why I said I would change . " " But
27:48that’s a separate issue from having a
27:50child . " " Having a child is irreversible ;
27:54isn't it cruel to the child to use them
27:57as a way to fix our relationship ? " " I
28:00know . " " That’s why I’m not forcing
28:03you to agree , but please listen to what
28:05I have to say . " " Honestly , watching your
28:08parents , I was truly envious . " " They
28:12look after each other , and if one is
28:14struggling , the other naturally steps
28:16in without keeping score of who did
28:18more . " " I wanted to grow old living like
28:22that with you . " " That was truly what I
28:25wanted when I got married . " So , I truly
28:28had a heart-to-heart talk with my
28:30husband . I thought if I just shared my
28:34honest feelings , he might understand ,
28:36even if things didn't work out . I
28:40talked about what he thinks a family is
28:43, and what kind of home I want to build
28:46. While we used to argue over who was
28:51right and wrong , this time I let that
28:54go and just spoke my mind . My husband
28:59listened silently and finally said he
29:01understood . That’s when I even opened
29:04up about my past honestly . I told him
29:08about the poverty and hardships I
29:10endured because of parents who seemed
29:12like such kind , accommodating people . I
29:16told him that's why I liked how precise
29:18he was in the beginning . But I
29:21confessed that after living together ,
29:23his precision sometimes became too much
29:26for me to handle . It wasn't that I
29:29hated his precise personality itself .
29:33The problem was that he wouldn't budge
29:35an inch , even within our family . So , I
29:38decided to be the first one to be more
29:40considerate of him . Before that , I
29:44wouldn't touch anything that was his
29:46responsibility . Since he was so strict
29:49about his boundaries , I didn't see why
29:51I should do any extra work for him . But
29:54now , if I had spare time , I started
29:57doing a bit of his chores and helping
30:00where I could . I thought I should be
30:03the one to change first . Seeing me like
30:07that , perhaps his heart changed too ,
30:09because he finally suggested we try for
30:12a baby . He said he would also try to be
30:15someone who is considerate for the sake
30:17of our family . I mean , when you think
30:20about it , it’s so obvious . Since
30:22we’re married , living by being
30:23considerate of each other is just
30:25natural . But hearing those words from
30:28my husband was really difficult and
30:30hard for me . So when I actually heard
30:33him say it , I was so moved that I burst
30:35into tears . I really felt like things
30:38could finally change . So , I think we
30:42were happy for about a month or two .
30:45Once I thought that we just needed to
30:47be a little considerate , I felt more at
30:50ease and relaxed . And after that , my
30:53body actually started to change . My
30:56chest felt tender , and I was constantly
30:58exhausted . It was definitely different
31:02from usual , so I started to get my
31:04hopes up . I mean , we both tried so hard
31:07for a baby , so naturally , I was paying
31:10close attention to these changes . So , I
31:13took a test . But even that left me
31:17feeling so uncertain . I wish it had
31:21shown two clear lines , but it was so
31:24faint that I couldn't tell if it was
31:26there or not . Staring intensely at the
31:31test wasn't going to change anything ,
31:33right ? So , I booked an appointment at
31:35the OB-GYN right away . My husband told
31:38me to wait a little longer in case it
31:40wasn't true . But I just couldn't do
31:43that . I figured I’d wait ; if it’s
31:45not meant to be , it isn’t , and if it
31:46is , it is . I hated spending days in
31:48this state of uncertainty even more .
31:52And honestly , at that time , I was
31:54convinced that once I confirmed the
31:56pregnancy , I’d be happier . Our
31:58relationship had improved over the last
32:00month or two , and we were both trying
32:02to be considerate . So , I just thought
32:04that maybe things were finally falling
32:06into place for me too . I booked an
32:10appointment at the most famous OB-GYN
32:12in the area and brought my husband
32:14along . Wait , this is an OB-GYN . You
32:19said the test wasn’t clear , so I told
32:22you we should wait a few more days .
32:25That’s why I came here to confirm it .
32:27I can't just stare at that faint line
32:30for days wondering if it's real or not .
32:33If it’s not , we just hear the news
32:35and leave , and if it is , we hear the
32:37good news together . Still , you
32:39should’ve told me beforehand . How can
32:41I not be flustered when you suddenly
32:44drag me to an OB-GYN ? Why are you in
32:46such a hurry when it didn’t have to
32:48be today ? Oh , it could be good news , so
32:51why are you so repulsed by it ? Instead
32:54of getting checked alone and calling to
32:56say " honey , I'm pregnant , " I wanted you
32:58sitting right there to hear it with me .
33:01We’re already here , so just come in
33:03with me . It doesn’t take long to get
33:06a checkup . My husband seemed a bit
33:08reluctant , but he went in with me
33:10eventually . Maybe because it was his
33:12first time , he seemed to be avoiding
33:14coming to an OB-GYN . Well , I didn't
33:17think much of it back then . I just
33:19thought it was normal for a man to be
33:21like that on his first visit . After we
33:23checked in and waited , I started to get
33:26nervous . I went to the water dispenser
33:30to get a drink and was walking back to
33:32my husband . But that’s when a nurse
33:36saw my husband and spoke to him so
33:38naturally . Oh my , long time no see , sir
33:42. Is the mother who gave birth last
33:45year doing well ? That was news to me . I
33:49stood right in front of them and spoke
33:52up . Who are you talking about ? This is
33:56my first time here . I’m here to
33:58confirm a pregnancy , and even if it’s
34:00true , it’s my first . What do you mean
34:03about giving birth last year ? But as
34:06soon as the nurse saw my face and heard
34:08me , she dropped the chart she was
34:10holding . Her face turned pale , too . I
34:14mean , if someone makes a mistake ,
34:16usually they just say , " Oh , I'm sorry , "
34:18and that’s it . But she was so shocked
34:20looking at my face , I couldn't help but
34:22feel something was wrong . So I asked
34:25what she meant . Last year ? We just got
34:27married last year . I asked if she had
34:30mistaken him for someone else . Then the
34:33nurse just stammered that she had made
34:35a mistake and scurried off . But the
34:38really strange thing was my husband .
34:41His expression had completely frozen .
34:43His eyes were wide as saucers , and I
34:46naturally had to ask him . Honey , do you
34:50know that nurse ? Or have you ever been
34:53here before ? What kind of nonsense are
34:56you talking about ? Why on earth would I
34:58have any reason to come to an OB-GYN ?
35:00Why do you keep prying with that
35:01nonsense just because the nurse made a
35:03mistake ? Why are you suddenly getting
35:06angry , as if I asked something so
35:08strange ? Then my husband said he was
35:11sick of it and went downstairs to wait
35:13for me . That’s when I had a gut
35:15feeling . This is no ordinary situation .
35:19It would be weirder if I didn't think
35:20anything of it . So , I went back to the
35:23hospital reception desk . I confidently
35:26gave my husband's name and asked for
35:29insurance documents . I used my
35:32husband's name as the guardian . His
35:34social security number ? Of course , I
35:37had it memorized . Hearing " insurance
35:39documents , " the receptionist printed
35:42them out without a second thought . But
35:44there was a stranger’s name written
35:47on them . And that woman had a C-section
35:50at that hospital last year with my
35:53husband as her guardian . Last year . The
35:57very year we got married . I don’t
36:00know how many times I reread that paper
36:02. I immediately made up my mind not to
36:04let this man get away with it . They say
36:08people have intuition , and that you'll
36:10know right away if your husband is
36:12cheating . But I honestly had no clue .
36:17Holding those papers in my hand , I just
36:19let out a dry laugh . They say you never
36:22know how life turns out , and that was
36:23spot on . I called my husband and told
36:27him it would take a while , so he should
36:29go home , and he agreed as if he’d
36:31been waiting for that . He was quick
36:34enough . He didn’t even try to stop me
36:36. I needed some time myself . So , I went
36:40ahead and got the necessary tests . The
36:43hospital drew my blood and said
36:45they’d let me know when the results
36:48were in . As I left the hospital after
36:51the tests , my knees felt weak . Just a
36:54while ago , I had wanted nothing more
36:56than to be pregnant . I was the one who
36:59brought my husband along to hear the
37:01good news together . But now , everything
37:04was the complete opposite . I started
37:07hoping , more than anything , that I
37:10wasn't . What if I really am pregnant ?
37:13That’s when I finally started to feel
37:16scared . After standing there for a long
37:18time , I went back to look for the nurse
37:20who recognized my husband earlier . I
37:23had found out this much , I couldn’t
37:26just go home . I had to confirm
37:29something . But when the nurse saw me ,
37:33she pretended not to know me at all .
37:36The woman who dropped the chart in
37:38front of me earlier suddenly acted like
37:41she’d never seen me , but I wasn't
37:43going to back down . So , I grabbed her
37:46and took her to a secluded spot . " I
37:49really can't tell you anything . " " I was
37:53mistaken earlier and said things I
37:56shouldn't have . " " Even if you are the
37:58guardian , I cannot disclose the
38:01patient's medical details . " " I have to
38:03follow the rules , so please don't make
38:05this difficult . " I know that much .
38:08I’m not asking you to tell me
38:10something new . I’ve already received
38:12the documents . Look at this . This
38:15person’s name is written here , and
38:17I’ve personally confirmed that my
38:19husband is listed as the guardian . I
38:22just want to know if this is real or
38:24not . You received the documents ? Yes .
38:28So please , just don't pretend you don't
38:30know anything . I’m completely losing
38:32my mind right now . My husband didn't
38:34say a word and just ran off , and here I
38:36am holding a paper with a woman's name
38:39I've never seen before next to my
38:41husband's name . I’m not trying to dig
38:44up anything else ; just tell me if the
38:46contents on this paper are true ,
38:48that’s all . The nurse looked at me
38:52with pity for a long time before she
38:54finally started answering in an
38:56ambiguous way . The information on the
39:00document itself is true . Hospital
39:03records are kept electronically , so we
39:05can’t just make them up or change
39:07them at will . At the very least , it
39:10wasn't printed incorrectly or made as a
39:13prank by someone . So it really was true
39:18, then . This woman had a C-section here
39:20last year , and my husband was
39:22registered as the guardian — that’s
39:25correct , right ? Yes , according to the
39:27records , that’s correct . Then let me
39:30ask you one more thing . Was he just
39:32listed as a guardian for a moment ? Or
39:34did my husband actually visit the
39:36hospital with her ? Earlier , you brought
39:39up the birth from last year as soon as
39:41you saw my husband’s face . I don’t
39:44think someone who was just a name on a
39:45form would be remembered like that . A
39:48guardian is just registered as an
39:50emergency contact , so we don't
39:53personally verify if they are legally
39:55the husband or the father . However , I
39:59recall he came with her for checkups a
40:02few times , was there during the
40:04explanations , and stayed at the
40:06hospital during the birth . So even you
40:10thought he was the baby’s father ,
40:13right ? Otherwise , you wouldn't have
40:16asked if the baby was growing well so
40:18naturally when you saw him earlier . I'm
40:22not asking you to confirm it , but how
40:24did they look to you as a couple back
40:26then ? To be honest , that’s what we
40:30thought . Especially since the mother
40:33had a difficult pregnancy and struggled
40:35for a long time . The guardian was so
40:37unusually worried — even bordering on
40:40being a nuisance — that everyone
40:43probably remembers him . Later , he even
40:46brought in " 100 - day " rice cakes , saying
40:49he was grateful and sorry . Hearing that
40:53, I just collapsed right there on the
40:55spot . I mean , if nothing else , the
40:57timing was just too perfect . When that
41:00woman gave birth , it was right before
41:03my husband and I got married . And the
41:05time he went back to the hospital with
41:08those rice cakes was when I was in the
41:10middle of my honeymoon . I had nothing
41:13left to ask , so I just let the nurse go
41:16. I honestly felt like such a fool . But
41:20while sitting there in a daze , that
41:22woman's name I saw on the documents
41:24kept bothering me . I thought it was a
41:27name I hadn't seen before , but
41:28strangely , it felt familiar . I was in
41:31such shock and it was such a common
41:33name that I didn't think of it right
41:35away . Then , it suddenly hit me . That
41:39woman's name was the temp who had
41:42joined our company . She was the very
41:45person who introduced me to my husband .
41:47Only then did everything start coming
41:48back to me piece by piece . Not long
41:51after she introduced me to my husband ,
41:53she quit the company . And later , when
41:57we got married , I tried to reach her ,
41:59but she was unreachable . She didn't
42:02even come to our wedding . Even when I
42:05asked other coworkers , they said they
42:06couldn't reach her either . At the time ,
42:09I just assumed she had quit and lost
42:12touch . Who would have thought the woman
42:16who introduced me to my husband was
42:18having his baby ? I ran straight to the
42:22company . Fortunately , she was a
42:25subordinate I managed , so I still had
42:28her resume . I got her address from it
42:31and drove straight to that location .
42:34There was no reason for me to sit
42:37around just guessing anymore . I wanted
42:39to see it with my own eyes . And there ,
42:42I actually saw her . The woman was
42:44strolling through the neighborhood
42:46holding hands with a baby , maybe a year
42:48old . It’s quite funny , really . The
42:51moment I saw the baby's face , I just
42:53knew . I knew that baby was my husband's
42:55flesh and blood . What was I supposed to
42:58do in a situation like this ? I had to
43:00call in the professionals . It didn't
43:03take as long as I thought to hire
43:05someone and gather evidence . Well ,
43:08paying a little money really made a
43:10difference compared to running around
43:11myself . They brought back photos and
43:16all , and later , somehow , they even got
43:19a hair from the baby . In the meantime ,
43:23I searched through everything I could ,
43:25including my husband's phone and laptop
43:27. I’d come this far , why would I
43:29trust anyone and just sit still ? It
43:31seems my husband tried to hide his
43:34evidence in his own way . But did he
43:36really think that would work ? I went to
43:38his parents ' house alone , pretending I
43:40was just dropping by for a visit . And I
43:43even managed to grab the laptop he used
43:45before we were married . And goodness ,
43:47there was plenty of evidence on there .
43:49They were even sharing their deeply
43:51pathetic love story . Seeing how
43:54desperately they loved each other
43:56behind my back left me speechless . But
44:00as I read through it , it didn't seem
44:03like they had planned a marriage fraud
44:05targeting me from the start . They had
44:09been dating originally , and when his
44:11parents ' opposition made marriage
44:13impossible , they came up with a plan .
44:17They agreed that he should first marry
44:19someone his parents would accept to
44:21build a foundation for their
44:22independence . That’s when that woman
44:26joined our team as a contract worker .
44:30And as she got closer to me , she
44:32started talking about me to my husband .
44:36Once she learned I had a stable job ,
44:39clean finances , and didn’t rely on my
44:41parents , she told him my parents would
44:44surely approve of someone like me . So ,
44:49while she was all smiles , getting me
44:52coffee and asking for dinner , she was
44:55already talking about me behind my back
44:58. As soon as I gathered all the
45:02evidence , I threw the divorce papers
45:04right in his face . When one nurse’s
45:08mistake blew his double life wide open ,
45:11he started making excuses in a panic .
45:15Wait a second . What is this ? Divorce ?
45:19Why are you suddenly acting like this ?
45:22You aren't doing this because of what
45:23that nurse said at the hospital , are
45:25you ? It’s not what you think . She’s
45:29a junior I’ve known for a long time ,
45:31and she had a situation , so I just lent
45:33her my name as a guardian . I didn't
45:35tell you because I thought you'd
45:37misunderstand . We’re really nothing
45:40to each other . Shut up . How dare you
45:43keep bringing up this " junior " nonsense
45:45. Wow , you sure take care of your
45:47juniors , don't you ? You’d harass me
45:51the moment I walked through the door if
45:52I was late sending you a few bucks for
45:54dinner , but you were playing the
45:56husband for her ? Like I said , there was
45:59a situation . She had no one else to
46:02rely on , and since we’ve known each
46:05other so long , I couldn't say no . And
46:08her kid ? No. You’re jumping to
46:10conclusions based on a few details . You
46:14should at least give me a chance to
46:16explain . Explain ? Fine , go ahead .
46:19Explain this , too . I took your old
46:22laptop . I read everything you two
46:25exchanged . Keep going . Well ? Are you
46:28going to say you were just planning
46:30your future with a " close junior " now ?
46:32So , you even went through my laptop ? A
46:36guy who hates losing even ten dollars
46:39is telling me he just helped someone in
46:41trouble ? " Out of the kindness of his
46:44heart " — what a joke . That’s how I
46:46ended things with that man . But the
46:49part that made me the angriest was
46:51something else . Of course , being toyed
46:54with was infuriating , but he was the
46:56kind of person who used to split every
46:59penny with me like he was cutting it
47:02with a knife . He was the type to pester
47:04me from the moment I got home if I
47:06didn’t immediately pay him back for a
47:08dinner bill . Yet , that man was sending
47:11his mistress two million won in living
47:13expenses every single month . That woman
47:17used that money for hair salons ,
47:20skincare , and organic groceries . She
47:24even took Pilates classes . I was
47:26absolutely dumbfounded . As I went
47:28further into the divorce proceedings ,
47:30it turned out that the bank transfers
47:32I’d found were just the tip of the
47:33iceberg . That woman was actually
47:35holding and using two of his credit
47:37cards . For her living expenses and
47:40costs related to her child . On top of
47:43that , the medical records obtained
47:45through the government claims lawsuit
47:47were filled with sickening details . The
47:50nurse who appeared as a witness at my
47:52request told me everything that
47:54happened back then . She told me how
47:57deeply that husband of mine worried
47:59about her . The nurses were even telling
48:03each other they should find men like
48:05him , but it’s so chilling now . Saying
48:07things like that . The divorce suit
48:10wasn't as difficult as I thought it
48:11would be . I mean , the evidence just
48:13kept pouring out like a string of beads
48:15. Just when I thought one thing was a
48:18headache , another would pop up , and
48:20after sorting that out , yet another
48:22would appear . But in the middle of all
48:25that , there was something else that
48:27truly terrified me . It was my own body .
48:31I told you I went for a check-up
48:32because I thought my body felt strange
48:34and I might be pregnant . Thankfully , I
48:36wasn't pregnant . But the hospital staff
48:40asked if I was taking birth control
48:42pills . I naturally told them I wasn't .
48:45Why would someone trying to get
48:47pregnant take birth control ? But as it
48:49turns out , that madman had been feeding
48:52me birth control pills . And he tricked
48:54me by calling them nutritional
48:56supplements . Thinking back , he used to
48:58bring me a pill every single morning ,
49:00saying it would help me get pregnant .
49:03He was so devoted that he’d even pour
49:05me a glass of water right on time . I
49:07foolishly thought he was finally trying
49:09to turn over a new leaf . But all along ,
49:12they were birth control pills . Isn't
49:15that just incredible ? The side effects
49:18were why my period stopped and my chest
49:20felt heavy back then . And I had been
49:23there , naively excited , thinking those
49:25were signs of pregnancy . Since I had
49:28begged him so much , he couldn't use
49:29contraception anymore , so he did that
49:31to ensure I wouldn't get pregnant at
49:33all . It wasn't enough that he cheated ,
49:37he even dared to mess with my body . So ,
49:40I filed a lawsuit for that as well . I
49:43mean , isn't that bodily harm ? So I sued
49:45both of those bastards for everything .
49:48I filed a civil suit and also brought
49:51an affair lawsuit against her . Once the
49:53suit was filed , that woman called me
49:55and started screaming at the top of her
49:58lungs . I had sent the certified mail to
50:00her parents ' house , you see . It seemed
50:02like she was in a panic because they
50:05found out everything . Are you insane ?
50:09Sending those documents to my house . My
50:11mom and dad saw them and now everything
50:13is in chaos . You're doing this on
50:15purpose , aren't you ? Just to mess with
50:17me ? Oh , so you think I'll just not
50:20divorce him then ? Are you okay with
50:21your child being listed under his
50:23family registry for the rest of their
50:26life ? Okay . Fine , I'll drop the charges
50:28and won't go through with the divorce .
50:30You can live your whole life with your
50:32kid , just the two of you . You .
50:34Don't make me laugh . You're the
50:36mistress here . We met first . He and I
50:40were dating long before he ever met you
50:42, and I was the one he was originally
50:44supposed to marry . She’s truly a
50:47lunatic . Whether we met first or later ,
50:50the fact remains that I was his legal
50:52wife on paper . So , I asked her . Why
50:55didn't you just marry him then ? Since I
50:58was the legal wife regardless , why were
51:00you acting so confident ? And at that
51:03point , she couldn't say a word . No
51:06matter how much she pretends to be the
51:07main character in a love story , it
51:09doesn't change the fact that she was
51:10legally just the mistress . The funny
51:13thing is , while I wasn't even curious
51:16about why they did it , hearing them
51:18sobbing in court , it sounded like both
51:21their families were dead set against
51:23them . That woman was a high school
51:26dropout who had already been divorced .
51:28And she was barely twenty at the time .
51:31So , his parents were against it from
51:34the start . But the two of them made
51:36such a fuss about being in love that
51:37they apparently even had a formal
51:39meeting between families . But it seems
51:42her parents were the worst of the worst
51:45. She had a mother and a stepfather ,
51:48and they were apparently known for
51:50being con artists . On top of that , they
51:53acted as if he should pay them more
51:55money because their daughter was
51:57marrying him . So , even though his
52:00parents almost gave in , once they saw
52:02what her family was like , they
52:03absolutely forbade him from going
52:05through with it . Not long after that ,
52:09he showed up saying he wanted to marry
52:12me . From his parents ' perspective , I
52:14had a stable job , no financial baggage ,
52:17and didn't rely on my parents for money
52:19, so of course they were happy . They
52:22didn't suspect a thing and welcomed me
52:24with open arms . Who would have known it
52:27would turn out like this ? They kept
52:30seeing each other in secret the whole
52:32time . Then , when she got pregnant , the
52:35two of them came up with a plan . He
52:39would go through with a sham marriage
52:41with me , stick it out for about a year ,
52:43and then divorce me to be with her — or
52:45something like that ? It turned out the
52:49reason was , once again , money .
52:51Apparently , his parents had promised to
52:53provide a house if he got married . So ,
52:56he planned to take that money , buy her
52:58a house , and then divorce me to keep
53:00the property . Wait , hold on a second .
53:05His parents provided the house ? What
53:08are you talking about ? When we got
53:10married , we split the house ownership
53:12exactly according to how much each of
53:14us put in , and I put in my own money
53:16separately . Some of it went to her
53:19place . It helped with getting a room ,
53:22and they needed things after the baby
53:24came , so there was nothing I could do .
53:27Yes . All of that went into renting that
53:30room , buying their furniture , and
53:32supporting their living expenses . I
53:35thought I was splitting the marriage
53:37costs 50/50 with my husband , but he was
53:39actually taking my money behind my back
53:41to support another woman's household .
53:44And once he divorced me , he planned to
53:47pool all that money together to build a
53:50proper life with her . On top of that ,
53:53there was a reason he was able to give
53:55that woman so much money . It turns out
53:58the crazy guy was stealing from his own
54:01company . He had completely hit rock
54:03bottom . He was so happy about his
54:06upcoming promotion , but he got fired
54:09immediately . And the company even filed
54:12a lawsuit against him . Well , he started
54:14this mess , so he has to deal with the
54:16consequences . The divorce was finalized
54:18smoothly as well . I received both
54:20alimony and damages in full . I kept the
54:23house we lived in and received extra
54:25money on top of that . I even got money
54:28from the woman he was having the affair
54:30with . My husband , who had been so
54:33cunningly leading a double life while
54:35deceiving me , ended up losing his
54:37property , his family , and his
54:39reputation all at once . He plotted so
54:42hard by dragging others into his life ,
54:44and look at the wonderful result . And
54:48most of all , the thing that had me
54:50really worried was that I wasn't
54:52actually pregnant . I was so relieved
54:55that I thanked the heavens and filed
54:57for divorce right away . I heard he even
55:00got kicked out of his parents ' house
55:02after that . It seems his parents were
55:05absolutely furious . I hear they ended
55:08up living in the small studio apartment
55:10the woman owned , struggling to raise a
55:13child while doing odd jobs . People say
55:16they are always fighting and causing a
55:18scene , but that’s none of my business
55:20now . They were so head-over-heels for
55:22each other , so I’m sure they’ll
55:24manage somehow . I guess . I am now
55:26pulling myself together and trying to
55:28live well . Ironically , what helped me
55:30through this was the relentless
55:32optimism of my parents , which had
55:34always annoyed me my whole life . My
55:36parents comforted me and told me this .
55:39It wasn't my fault . They said that
55:43anyone would be taken in if someone set
55:45out to deceive them , so I shouldn't
55:48beat myself up over it . Who would have
55:51thought I’d find comfort in the very
55:53optimism I’d always found so
55:55exhausting ? It was funny , but actually
55:59hearing it did give me some comfort . So
56:03, I’ve become a bit more relaxed and
56:05more forgiving than I used to be . I
56:09used to think people who got deceived
56:11were foolish , but after going through
56:13such a nightmare myself , I guess my
56:15understanding has deepened a little ?
56:19And so , my mind has actually become
56:21much more at peace . I feel like I could
56:24even be happier in the future than I am
56:27now . Since this happiness was so
56:30hard-won , I intend to protect it well .
56:34I don’t know what will happen next ,
56:36but at least I have no intention of
56:38living my life at the mercy of others .
56:41I’m going to focus on my own
56:43happiness and live a better , happier
56:45life . Thank you for listening to my
56:47flawed story until the end . That is all
56:49.
