0:00nine out of the ten students i was

0:01coaching this week struggled not just

0:03with their direction of their iron shots

0:05but also their ball striking too now the

0:07great thing is is we managed to

0:08transform every single one of them in

0:10slightly different ways in fact today

0:12what i want to do is i want to share

0:13with you five simple ways that you can

0:16start to instantly improve the ball

0:18striking the distance and the direction

0:20with your irons and you know what you

0:22might not need in them all but at least

0:24you might need to do the combination of

0:25one or two but i promise you they will

0:27make a huge huge difference now tip

0:30number one involved colin now colin was

0:32striking the ground behind the golf ball

0:35which was causing some fats huge losses

0:37distance but he would also sometimes get

0:39a big slice as well not just with his

0:40eyes but his driver too so let's deal

0:43with the strike first why was colin

0:45striking it poorly well anybody can

0:47benefit from this i see this all the

0:49time the first thing i noticed it was in

0:51simple setup his sternum here was

0:54hanging without him realizing behind the

0:56golf ball now the problem is if your

0:58sternum hangs behind the golf ball when

1:00you come down you're going to end up

1:02striking the ground behind the golf ball

1:04it's never going to be any good you're

1:06going to strike down on it you might

1:07strike up on it so you might fat it or

1:08even thin it along the ground you've got

1:10to get your sternum lined over the top

1:12of the golf ball when that happens

1:14you then come down on the golf ball so

1:16we strike the ball then the ground

1:18naturally yeah so there's the first

1:20thing we call him i said look get a

1:23sense of where your sternum is just

1:24simply hold the club hang it from your

1:27sternum here notice if it's here or here

1:29now but don't get me wrong i don't want

1:31you over here that's too much yeah

1:32you'll end up hitting the ground too

1:34firmly we want it over the ball so i

1:37made him make some swings just paying

1:38attention to where that sternum is

1:41relative to the golf ball now as he did

1:44this

1:45naturally the ball striking improved but

1:49it didn't instantly get rid of the slice

1:52although he started to strike it better

1:54he still had a bit of a slice which

1:56moves us on to tip number two

1:59forearm alivement have you ever checked

2:01your forearm alignment this is a big one

2:03for accuracy now with colin his forearm

2:06alignment when he was set up here

2:09was actually aiming to the left now what

2:11do i mean by four arm alignment well if

2:13i was to put a club along like this

2:15and i did tilt it so my trail arm goes

2:17higher than my lead arm it'll point to

2:19left if it's lower than my lead arm it

2:21starts pointing to the right now with

2:22colin i'm going to exaggerate just for

2:24camera his was turned here without him

2:26realizing so even if he did get his

2:29stern over the golf ball he could strike

2:30it but he'd come across the line of the

2:32golf ball and hit a big slice this is

2:34the simplest thing for you to change all

2:36i did was said look pay attention look

2:39at them look at where they're lined up

2:40just simply move them around until you

2:42feel like they're lined up now you may

2:44feel if you're used to this angle you

2:46may feel like you need to kind of aim a

2:49little bit to the right-hand side for a

2:51right-handed gopher and that's what i

2:52did with kotlin i said look yes it feels

2:54a bit strange calling but look now

2:55they're perfectly aligned now you've got

2:57the sternum of the golf ball you're

2:59going to strike it but also now you're

3:01shifting the path to an area where we

3:03can actually look maybe even create a

3:05beautifully struck draw shot as opposed

3:08to a slice shot that you were doing

3:11which brought us into the swing element

3:12of this i said now you can visually as

3:14you're swinging like your sternums of

3:16the golf ball but you can also visualize

3:18are your forearms lined up in a way

3:20that's going to get that ball setting

3:21off in the direction that you want not

3:24in the direction that you don't want and

3:26that's all we did make some swings

3:29and start to rip

3:31beautiful draw shots

3:32like that so tip number three involved

3:35brian now

3:36what i'm gonna show you now is gonna

3:38look strange but i see this over and

3:40over again on the lesson t and it ruins

3:43your ball striking okay it really ruins

3:44your ball striking but i'm going to have

3:46to show you my back side to do this so

3:47what i want to do look at this

3:49this is how brian was set up when he

3:51setups like this he's literally without

3:54him realizing he's spying he's turned

3:56this way slightly now this is normal

3:58because often when you're trying to aim

4:00towards a target you actually turn more

4:02this way without realizing now the

4:05problem is is when you get your spine

4:07turned this way without realizing okay

4:09as a poster here here we can come into

4:12the back of the golf ball

4:14here you're actually leaning back well

4:16based on tips one and two what's that

4:18going to do it's going to send your

4:19sternum back and then you're going to

4:21start flicking it so many golfers get

4:24this right so what i want you to do is

4:27take your bum just gently not huge just

4:30shift make sure you're in a position

4:32it's almost like here you're going to

4:34smack something here

4:37not

4:38turn towards you tight the more you

4:39start to do this here the more you're

4:42shifting that swing to eventually

4:45hang back here and start to get sternum

4:47behind the golf ball so it's as simple

4:49as that all we did with brian was this

4:51got him to shift it over here just a

4:54fraction

4:55now he was he could make a much much

4:57better turn in the backswing here he

5:00could come into the back of the golf

5:01ball just think of it this way

5:03if you're set up now

5:05i can turn back and i can hit down to

5:07the golf ball if i without realizing got

5:10my spine this way

5:11i'm already restrict him or he turned

5:13the wrong direction

5:15never any good so all we did

5:17turn him in position got him to feel

5:18like now for him he felt as though he

5:20was like this he really wasn't but now

5:23from if he was like that he's in a

5:24position look to drive down through here

5:28he wasn't that's all we did with brian

5:30nothing but he didn't need anything else

5:32that one small shift here helped not

5:34just with his irons but his driver too

5:40now tip number four and look you've

5:42gotta stay tuned it's raining and that

5:44cloud is on its way will we get this

5:46finished in time

5:47so tip number four this thing involved

5:50tom so basically

5:52this is another common uh issue i want

5:54you to look out for

5:55when you're instead of the golf ball

5:57here are you turning away because a lot

5:59of time when people are turning away

6:01they move off the golf ball now look

6:04what we've just talked about if you move

6:05off the golf ball and you hear at the

6:07top of your swing you have way too much

6:09to do to get back to the golf ball it's

6:11too inconsistent so

6:13what we did with thomas is this it's not

6:14just the case at all do we just stay

6:16still then no that won't work either but

6:19you've got to have a better way of

6:20moving in the backswing so that you can

6:23naturally come down

6:24consistently on that golf ball so what i

6:27did with tom was this

6:28tom misinterpreted the golf swing he

6:30thought i had to swing around or make a

6:33turn here and then a turn i said no no

6:35the arms work

6:37up so all i did was get my simplex size

6:39doing this first so literally

6:41cocking the wrists up

6:43working the club up at pitching it

6:45slightly in angle so there's some

6:46forearm rotation some forearm rotation

6:48in both arms here now i literally lifted

6:51that up going to lift up to one o'clock

6:53and i said right okay good this is the

6:55motion yeah i want you to create not

6:57this motion this motion that's to one

6:59o'clock then now look to two two o'clock

7:03three o'clock

7:05four o'clock

7:06five o'clock now suddenly now we've got

7:08a motion that's working in a spiral up

7:12and down to the golf ball much more

7:14likely to strike down and through the

7:16shot versus the motion which i've seen

7:19too often

7:20working around here off the ball then

7:22you're trying to lunge back to the golf

7:24ball so that's all i want you to do too

7:26real simple exercise

7:28one o'clock two o'clock

7:31three o'clock

7:33four o'clock

7:34five o'clock and i'm looking up there to

7:36help the pivot as well look as i'm doing

7:37this feel what that's like then look

7:40feel i'm chopping i feel like i'm

7:41chopping down to that golf ball

7:44and through

7:45that then gave him some wonderful

7:48strikes not straight away we have to

7:49kind of develop that sensation it felt a

7:51bit uncomfortable initially but it was

7:52so much more consistent

7:56for his ball striking

7:57and listen to that sound

7:59ball turf

8:01let's get on to number five

8:02so before i get into tip number five i'm

8:04probably get completely soaked look if

8:06you're enjoying the video give it a

8:07thumbs up and of course look come and

8:08subscribe to the channel it's come free

8:10free to do so i release videos like this

8:12every single week to try and help you

8:14improve your game plus i've always put a

8:16free practice guide in the description

8:18box below so you never have to remember

8:20a thing so tip number five i actually

8:22learned from pete cowan and i shared

8:24this with a recent student simon so

8:26simon was doing what i see a lot of

8:27golfers doing who struggled with ball

8:29striking accuracy he was excessively

8:32rolling the face open look at the face

8:34here rolling open on the way back having

8:36an open face coming down it was still

8:39open forcing him then to his body to oh

8:42my god it smiles open now we'd have to

8:44suddenly correct it the problem would

8:46you do this your body has to stall to

8:49allow the club face to kind of correct

8:51that's forces to sternum back and it

8:53causes a whole host of problems okay so

8:56what we needed to do with simon is to

8:58help him get more control of this club

9:00face so that it would arrive square more

9:03consistently

9:04and all i did was this he just needed to

9:06feel what square was so what i want you

9:07to do now is this hot get a golf club

9:09hold it right in front of you here and i

9:11want you to imagine you're holding a

9:13towel and you're going to ring the towel

9:15out when you ring a towel out you're

9:17literally your hands are working in

9:19opposition to each other when you do

9:21this what happens to the club face

9:24nothing

9:25stays completely square so when you

9:27imagine this if you're kind of ringing

9:29the tower all the way to the top and

9:31then all the way back into impact

9:33nothing's going on with the club face

9:34it's staying much much more stable and

9:36that's all i gave simon what he was

9:39doing prior to this is he wasn't

9:40wringing out the towel what he was doing

9:41is he was allowing both hands to work

9:44too much in the same direction they

9:45would work in the same direction on the

9:47way back and then they would either stay

9:49there or then excessively work in the

9:51same direction on the way through

9:52leading to very very inconsistent ball

9:54striking and accuracy now

9:57all i did initially to build this is

10:00it's not going to add loads of tension

10:01to my swing you don't have to do this

10:04you just add that little bit of tension

10:06that's all it is just a tiny bit to feel

10:08what that's like

10:09square face hit a few shots and that's

10:12all i did with someone said feel those

10:13hands feel where the club face is

10:15square is there

10:17that's slightly closed and that's

10:19slightly open okay so i get him to

10:21because he was slicing a little bit i'm

10:23going to feel like it's a little bit

10:24closed

10:25as he's swinging back i feel like it's a

10:27bit more closed on the way down

10:29and then play a few shots like that just

10:30simply paying attention

10:32to that grip pressure nothing more

10:35complicated than that

10:38and that

10:39is how you hit beautifully

10:41straight shots so that's what we did

10:42with simon got him to really sense that

10:45stability made a huge difference so if

10:47you enjoyed this video make sure you

10:48give it a thumbs up check this one out

10:50here i did something to struggle with

10:52driver i did something very very simple

10:54with some students that i know is going

10:55to super super help but until next week

10:58have a great golfing week
