0:00well hello and welcome to this english
0:02lesson where we're going to talk about
0:04books books are valuable tools
0:08when you are learning a language i know
0:10that not everyone loves reading
0:12but some people really like reading and
0:14reading when you're learning a language
0:17like english
0:17can be a very powerful thing to do
0:20i always think that reading is one of
0:23the best ways
0:24to learn new words and it's one of the
0:26best ways to learn the english language
0:29because you can do it at your own pace
0:32when you're reading you can read slowly
0:34or you can read quickly and you can
0:36easily reread things so
0:38today today's english lesson is going to
0:40be about books
0:41i personally love books so i hope that
0:44you enjoy
0:45this english lesson about books hey a
0:48person who writes books is called
0:50an author a general term for someone who
0:53writes is to call them a writer
0:55but specifically if you write books we
0:58would call you an
0:59author some people are aspiring authors
1:03when you say someone is an aspiring
1:05author it means they're doing a lot of
1:08writing
1:08they might have even written a book and
1:10they're trying to get the book published
1:13but an author is someone who has written
1:16books and has
1:17published those books and has sold those
1:19books an author is someone who
1:21writes books some of you might be
1:24authors
1:25some of you might be aspiring authors
1:27again an aspiring author
1:29is a person who aspires to be an author
1:33they would like to be an
1:34author someday so they are actively
1:36writing a book
1:39as opposed to someone who would be an
1:41established author
1:42an established author would be someone
1:44who has written many books
1:46and has them all for sale on amazon and
1:49in various bookstores
1:51if you are someone who draws especially
1:54for children's books
1:56we would call you an illustrator so when
1:59i
1:59read children's books to my kids when
2:01they were younger they were often
2:03illustrated and then on the front cover
2:05of the book it would say
2:07written by and then a name and then
2:09illustrated by
2:11and the name of the illustrator so the
2:13author
2:14is the person who writes the books the
2:17illustrator is the person who does
2:19all of the artwork all of the drawings
2:22all of the sketches that you would find
2:24in the book
2:27so when did this all start well a long
2:29time ago
2:30and i don't know the history of this
2:32someone invented
2:33the printing press the printing press
2:36did not
2:36immediately give rise to books
2:39when something gives rise to something
2:42else it means it allows it to start
2:44happening
2:45the internet gave rise to social media
2:48whether that's good or bad
2:50the printing press eventually gave rise
2:52to books
2:53but initially the printing press was
2:55used to just
2:56print single sheets of paper or
2:59pamphlets
3:00until someone discovered how to bind the
3:03pages
3:04together into what we would call a book
3:07so we have the printing press to print
3:09the actual words on the page
3:11and then someone would bind the book
3:13together there would be book binding
3:18that attached all the pages together
3:21until you had
3:21an actual book now bob the canadian
3:24doesn't know
3:26the detailed history of how books were
3:28invented
3:29so if there was a slightly different
3:31route please let me know but that is my
3:34understanding of how we eventually got
3:36books
3:37the back of the book is called the spine
3:41so when you go to a library or a
3:43bookstore often the books
3:45are on a shelf so you can see the front
3:47cover
3:48or they might be on the shelf so you can
3:51see the spine
3:52the title and author of the book are
3:54usually on the spine of the book
3:57and this is the same word we use for
3:58humans right your back has
4:00a spine in it that's what holds you up
4:03now
4:05interestingly enough i have occasionally
4:07heard the word
4:08spline with an l in it to refer to the
4:11back of a book
4:13i use the word spine and when i did some
4:15research
4:16it sounds like most of the english
4:18speaking world refers to the back of the
4:20book with the word
4:22spine but spline is something you might
4:26find in older writing
4:27so but spine is definitely how i refer
4:30to it
4:32not every book has this but most books
4:35especially books that you would read for
4:38research
4:38will have a table of contents this is a
4:41list of
4:42all of the chapters in the book with the
4:45page number where you will find it
4:48a novel so a story that you read
4:51might not have it'll have a list of all
4:54the chapters at the beginning
4:56but it might not be called the table of
4:58contents
4:59novels generally just have a list of
5:01chapters at the beginning you could call
5:03it the table of contents if you wanted
5:05to
5:06let's see here books
5:10definitely if they are larger books have
5:12chapters
5:13a chapter is kind of if you are reading
5:16a book that is a long story
5:18a chapter is part of that story it's an
5:21easy way to remember
5:22where you are in the book if you're
5:24reading a book you might have trouble
5:26remembering how far you've read
5:28but if you can remember that you've read
5:30chapter 2 or chapter 3 or chapter 4
5:33that sometimes makes it easier so a
5:35chapter
5:36is a part of a book in numerical order
5:40that you could use to know where you are
5:42in the book
5:44at the back of a book and not every book
5:47has this there might be something called
5:49a glossary
5:51if you are reading a technical book if
5:54you are reading an instructional book
5:56if you are reading a book where there
5:58will be lots of new words
6:00even as an english speaker i read books
6:02sometimes where there are a lot of new
6:04words
6:05the back might have a glossary which is
6:08kind of like a small dictionary
6:11with only words in it that relate to the
6:14book that i'm reading so sometimes a
6:16book
6:17at the back will have a glossary
6:20almost all the books that i use in
6:22french class
6:24have a nice glossary at the end of terms
6:27that students can learn when they're
6:28reading the book of jose indi
6:31lexique but glossary
6:35there's a couple kinds of books from a
6:37physical description
6:39there are hardcover books these are
6:42books where the cover
6:43is quite hard and durable you can see
6:46that these books have a
6:47thick cover so the cover is still made
6:50out of paper or
6:51cardboard but it's thicker than all the
6:54other pages in the book
6:56and it's very very durable which is why
6:59we call it a hard cover
7:01most books in our libraries are
7:04hardcover
7:05usually when a book comes out it comes
7:07out as a hardcover
7:09initially and then eventually it comes
7:11out as
7:12a soft cover or paperback which is
7:15usually a little bit
7:16cheaper so a soft cover book
7:19you can bend the cover it's a lot softer
7:22and more
7:23pliable that means you can bend it so a
7:26hardcover book is hard
7:28it does not bend a soft cover book is a
7:31little more
7:32pliable and bendable um i prefer reading
7:36soft cover books because they're lighter
7:39hardcover books are usually bigger and
7:42they're just
7:43heavier whereas soft cover books are
7:46usually a little bit
7:47lighter and then paperback
7:50usually refers to a smaller book as well
7:55so a soft cover book can be any size but
7:57for me when i think of the word
7:59paperback
8:00i think of a smaller book okay so
8:03paperback
8:05paperback writer is that the song by the
8:07beatles someone let me know in the chat
8:09i'm pretty sure it is
8:12of course nowadays many people have an
8:15e-reader
8:16and they use the e-reader to buy e-books
8:19you can also check e-books out from the
8:21library
8:22but an e-reader is a device that you can
8:25put
8:26digital books on you can put ebooks
8:29onto your e-reader and then you can read
8:32them
8:32i have an e-reader it's called a kindle
8:36i like it i think i prefer reading an
8:39actual book but it's actually a lot
8:42easier for me to get books on my
8:44e-reader now
8:45to when i go to the library sometimes
8:48the book i want isn't there
8:50but with my e-reader i can check books
8:52out online
8:53and usually i can get a copy of the book
8:56to read
8:57so i really enjoy my e-reader it's quite
9:00handy and quite useful for me
9:03although mine does not have a light
9:06so i have to have a light on when i'm
9:09reading on my e-reader
9:12and then of course there are audio books
9:14i do not
9:15listen to audio books very often in
9:18english
9:19i do listen to audiobooks in french
9:22in fact here's a really good technique
9:24for you to use
9:26if there is a book that you have read in
9:28your own language
9:30i highly recommend that you get the
9:32audiobook
9:33of the english version if it's available
9:36so if you've already read the book
9:38in your own language listening to the
9:40audiobook
9:41of the same book in english can be very
9:44very helpful
9:47i just find that it's a useful very very
9:49useful
9:50thing to do someone who really likes to
9:53read
9:54we would refer to them as an avid reader
9:57when you use the word
9:58avid in english before an activity it
10:01means the person really likes doing it
10:04i am an avid reader that means that i
10:07always have
10:08a book on the go i always have a book
10:11that i'm reading
10:12i am definitely an avid reader one of
10:15the reasons i'm an
10:16avid reader is because my mom was a
10:19librarian
10:20and it was very common for us to go to
10:23the library
10:24every week when i was a kid to check out
10:26books
10:27so i became an avid reader and all of my
10:30brothers and sisters
10:32are avid readers as well i think for the
10:34same reason
10:35in fact they a couple of them can read
10:38faster than i can my older brother in
10:41particular
10:41is a very fast reader he's not a speed
10:44reader
10:45is definitely a fast reader though we'll
10:46talk about speed reading in a bit
10:49and i've used this phrase a couple times
10:51and it came up even in one or two
10:53questions
10:54when someone likes to read we say they
10:56are reading for pleasure
10:58there are many different reasons to read
11:00you might be reading
11:01because you're doing research you might
11:04be reading because
11:05you have to read for work maybe it's
11:07your job to read
11:09technical manuals but when you are home
11:12on the weekend or at night
11:13and you read because you like it we say
11:15that you are reading for pleasure
11:18so an avid reader is definitely someone
11:21who will be
11:22reading for pleasure okay
11:25and this isn't necessarily a nice term
11:28but someone who reads a lot of books we
11:31will sometimes call them a bookworm
11:33so like i said it's not positive but
11:37it's not
11:37necessarily derogatory like it's not an
11:40insult
11:41but sometimes people will say oh my
11:43nephew he's a real bookworm
11:45he's always got his nose in a book i
11:48don't think i have a slide for that one
11:50a bookworm is someone who always has
11:52their nose in a book
11:54okay so that's a phrase we used as well
11:56i should have made a slide for it
11:58and primarily i would use this word to
12:01refer to a child
12:02like i might say oh my nephew is a
12:04bookworm he always has his nose in a
12:06book
12:07so again it can be used in a negative
12:11sense like i such a bookworm it's always
12:14got his nose in a book
12:15like my tone changed there and i started
12:18to use it in a negative way
12:19so be careful with bookworm someone
12:23who likes books not necessarily for
12:27reading but because of their
12:29value might be a book collector okay
12:32so sometimes people just like collecting
12:35books
12:36people like collecting all kinds of
12:38things in life
12:39and some people are book collectors they
12:41might read the books they buy
12:43but they might also just buy the books
12:46because they are
12:47rare so a book collector might be
12:50looking for
12:51rare books rare books are usually really
12:54old books
12:55where only a few were published when
12:58when they were published maybe they
13:00published a hundred
13:02and eighty of them have disappeared over
13:04time and there's only a few left in the
13:07world we would call those
13:09rare books so some of the first books
13:12ever printed
13:13if you have a copy up in your attic that
13:16rare book might be worth a lot of money
13:18you should go find it
13:19and see if it is um
13:22and then a book collector will have a
13:24book collection
13:26someone who reads a lot of books might
13:28have a book collection
13:29i have a pretty large book collection
13:32it's not on bookshelves
13:34it's actually in my basement in boxes i
13:37should donate them
13:38to a second-hand store or to a used
13:41bookstore at some point in the future
13:44um that would be better because then
13:45other people could enjoy reading them
13:49but anyone who has a number of books in
13:54their house like a lot of books in their
13:55house we would say they have a book
13:57collection
13:58oh come and see my book collection it's
14:00rather large it's over here in boxes
14:03um books go on bookshelves so this is a
14:06bookshelf
14:07any shelf that you put books on is
14:10immediately a bookshelf
14:11so if you have a shelf and it has odds
14:14and ends on it
14:15and you take them off and you put books
14:17on it it is now a bookshelf
14:19um so a bookshelf again is a place
14:22in your house where you can keep books
14:24maybe your book collection is on
14:26bookshelves
14:27there's a lot more shelves in this
14:29picture but a bookshelf is a place where
14:32you can keep books
14:34bookends are things that are
14:38somewhat heavy that you can put on each
14:41side
14:41of a row of books to hold them up
14:44you could see these bookends are in the
14:47shape of little dogs
14:48little terriers i think they are they
14:50might be scottish terriers
14:52but a bookend is usually a pair of
14:55really heavy things
14:57so when you put your books on a
14:58bookshelf to stop them from
15:00falling over you would put bookends at
15:03each end
15:04so these are bookends
15:08if you want to remember where you left
15:11off
15:12in a book if you want to remember how
15:14far you've read in a book let me use the
15:16first phrasal verb again
15:19a bookmark is a great thing to use so
15:21you remember where you left off
15:23in a book it's good because it lets you
15:25know
15:26what page you were on when you stopped
15:29reading the previous time you were
15:31reading so it's good to have a bookmark
15:33um some people dog ear this is this book
15:36is dog-eared
15:38some people fold the pages down i don't
15:40do that
15:41i don't like it when people dog-ear a
15:43book when they put dog ears but this
15:45book is dog-eared
15:47someone folded the page down so they
15:49could remember what page they were on
15:51i prefer to use a bookmark or i try to
15:55memorize
15:55what page i'm on and then i usually
15:58forget
15:59so sometimes i end up searching through
16:02the book
16:02to try and figure out what page i'm on
16:06but i do have a few bookmarks around the
16:08house that i should use
16:10i just have to find them back
16:13um i wear reading glasses i used to wear
16:16reading glasses when i did my live
16:18streams
16:18but i don't seem to need them with this
16:20computer i'm using now
16:22i moved my computer closer so these are
16:24glasses
16:25that i wear when i read a book if i
16:28don't wear my reading glasses
16:32everything's blurry i can't see the
16:33words so
16:35reading glasses it's simply a pair of
16:37glasses that you use
16:39in order to be able to read a book as
16:42people get older if they don't wear
16:45glasses for other reasons
16:47eventually most people end up wearing
16:50reading glasses at some point so they
16:53can read books
16:54i started wearing reading glasses about
16:56five or six years ago
16:57actually
17:01sometimes people want to read at night
17:04and in order
17:05to read at night you might need a
17:06reading lamp or a reading light or a
17:08book light
17:09so also booklight can be one word or two
17:12words
17:13so it could be booklight or booklight as
17:15two words
17:16but there are a variety of reading lamps
17:19or reading lights or book lights that
17:21you could use
17:23um i want to buy an e-reader that has a
17:26light built in
17:27but i'm not doing that yet because my
17:29old e-reader still works fine
17:32i'm not looking i don't want to spend
17:33the money on a new one yet so
17:35but if you read at night you might have
17:38a reading lamp
17:40a reading light or a book light so that
17:42you can see
17:43what you are reading if you
17:47go to the library you will have a
17:50library card
17:51a library card is a small card you carry
17:54in your wallet
17:54it will have your library number on it
17:57as
17:58someone who uses the library you will
18:00have a number
18:01and you will need to bring your library
18:03card when you go to the library
18:06if you want to check out books so a few
18:08things about the library card
18:10one is in canada
18:14i can use my library card to take out
18:16books for myself
18:18and for my children my children don't
18:20need library cards
18:22i think they don't need one until
18:23they're 11 or 12 years old
18:25so as a parent i can take out books for
18:28my kids as well with my library card
18:30jen and i both have library cards
18:33and then one other thing in canada a
18:36library card
18:37is free it doesn't cost money and
18:40using the library is free there is no
18:44cost to using the library
18:46unless you bring a book back late and
18:48then you have to
18:49pay a late fee or a late charge you
18:52don't want your book
18:53to be overdue when we check out a book
18:57from the library we can have it for two
18:59weeks
19:00and if we don't bring it back it's
19:02overdue and then we have to pay a
19:04fine so we have to pay a fine because
19:07the book is overdue so we try to always
19:09bring our books back on time
19:11but again it's free to get a library
19:13card
19:14it might cost money to replace it if you
19:17lose it
19:18but it's free to get a library card and
19:20it is free to use the library in canada
19:23almost every town and city has a library
19:26there are my library card lets me use
19:29four different libraries okay i can use
19:32the four
19:33closest libraries to my house i'm
19:36allowed to go to
19:37the only problem i have is the libraries
19:40that are close to me
19:41don't have the kinds of books that i
19:44like to read so that's a little bit sad
19:47let me see here if you don't want to
19:50check a book out from the library you
19:52can go to a bookstore
19:54so bookstores are large stores we
19:57sometimes call them book shops
19:59and by the way these words can be two
20:01words
20:02or one word so bookstore or bookstore
20:05bookshop or bookshop and it's just a
20:08place where you can go to buy books
20:11i used to really like going to the used
20:13bookstore
20:14there was a used bookstore close to
20:17where i lived
20:19when i lived in quebec and the used
20:21bookstore was a great
20:22place to go because i could buy books
20:24for really really cheap
20:25i really liked going to the used
20:28bookstore
20:29there are also online bookstores an
20:31online bookstore is obviously a place
20:34where you go
20:35to buy the digital version of the book
20:37or the ebook
20:39or you can order the soft cover or
20:41hardcover version of the book
20:43and it will be delivered to your house
20:45so you would choose between
20:47do you want to buy the e-reader version
20:49and then get it
20:50instantly so you as soon as you click
20:53pay
20:54within seconds it's on your e-reader or
20:56do you want to buy
20:57the actual book so i've been using that
21:01term a lot
21:02ebook and actual book um
21:05the real book the actual book the uh
21:08paperback or softcover
21:09book um sometimes i'm tempted to just
21:12buy the real book to buy the actual book
21:14but usually i
21:16end up clicking and buying the ebook
21:18again because it's cheaper
21:20this is the book series that i'm
21:22currently reading this is a book series
21:24by brandon sanderson called the way of
21:26kings
21:28sorry the stormlight archive is the name
21:30of the series the first book is called
21:32the way of kings
21:33i'm actually on the second book in the
21:35series right now
21:37this is a fantasy book about a group of
21:40princes and kings who are fighting a
21:42long battle against
21:44another force there's lots of magic
21:47there's lots of strange and interesting
21:49creatures in the book
21:50but this is a novel a novel is a book
21:53that's written
21:54that is a story it can be either real or
21:58or it could be either fiction or
22:00non-fiction
22:01um but a novel is a story that you read
22:04about someone else's life
22:06most of the books i read are novels and
22:08i'm just going to go through
22:10a few types of books i don't have every
22:13type of book on my list today but we'll
22:15go through a few types of books
22:18there are classics in the world there
22:21are a lot of classics
22:22that are really really big and sometimes
22:25you will read
22:26an abridged version when you read the
22:29abridged version of a book it means
22:32another
22:33author or writer has created a
22:36shorter version of the book if you're
22:38going to read some of the
22:40uh classics they're quite big and some
22:43people will read
22:44an abridged version of the book instead
22:48and then there are some books i think i
22:50already mentioned this
22:51on the previous slide that are called
22:52classics so a lot of books by ernest
22:55hemingway are classics
22:57there are a lot of famous authors from
22:59other parts of the world
23:01that have written books that are
23:02considered classics
23:04okay most of your countries will have
23:06books
23:07that are considered to be classics books
23:10that
23:10are just really well written they're
23:13usually quite
23:14old and they represent your country
23:17really well
23:19and most of the time classics have been
23:21translated into almost
23:23as many languages as you can think of
23:26that's the true sign of a classic
23:29it's an old book a popular book and it's
23:31been translated into
23:33a number of languages so that everyone
23:35around the world can appreciate it
23:38if i was to have a plan for reading i
23:41would love to read
23:42a classic novel from every country
23:46from the people that are on my list of
23:48that watch my videos that would be a lot
23:50of
23:50books by the way um we have something
23:53called coffee table books
23:55a coffee table book is usually mostly
23:58pictures
23:59it's usually quite big and it's usually
24:02on someone's coffee table so this isn't
24:05like
24:05a desk book like what was mentioned
24:07earlier but a coffee table book might be
24:11we don't have any actually we do have a
24:13couple coffee table books
24:14and they're about flowers so a coffee
24:17table book
24:17again is it's usually quite big
24:20it usually has more pictures than
24:23writing
24:24oh thanks jack for the super chat that
24:26is awesome of you thank you so much for
24:28helping to support my channel
24:29um so a coffee table book once again
24:33is a large book they're nice to have on
24:36the table they can be a conversation
24:38piece
24:38so if you have guests over they might
24:41flip through the coffee table book
24:43while they're visiting and it might
24:46help to further the conversation it
24:50might help you
24:51find something to talk about again
24:54there's
24:54fiction and non-fiction so a
24:57fiction book is not true fiction
25:01is the word we use to refer to stories
25:03that someone just dreamed up
25:05in their head they're not lies
25:08but they are definitely made up so
25:11fiction is not true
25:12and this is where we get phrases like
25:14science fiction this is
25:16stories about the future and then
25:18generally there is
25:19um two different lists of bestsellers
25:23fiction and non-fiction so fiction is
25:25not true
25:26stories made up just for people to enjoy
25:28reading
25:29and then non-fiction would be anything
25:32that is
25:32true factual historical
25:35based on real life would be non-fiction
25:39so i
25:40haven't read this book but it looked
25:42really tasty on the front
25:43clean eating the complete clean eating
25:46cookbook i should buy that book
25:50let's see here if a book
25:54is written by someone and they're
25:56remembering their life
25:58it's called a memoir okay often
26:01when someone is a leader of a country
26:04after they
26:05are no longer the leader they sometimes
26:08will write a book called a memoir
26:10and it's a book where they are
26:11remembering what has happened
26:14in a certain period of their life okay
26:16so currently barack obama from the
26:18united states
26:20has a memoir out called a promised land
26:23and it's basically a book where he
26:25remembers things
26:26that happened in his life and writes
26:28about them it has another name as well
26:30we'll get to that in a minute
26:32a biography is when someone writes a
26:36book
26:36about someone else okay so this book
26:40is not written by elon musk but this
26:43book
26:43is about elon musk and is written by
26:46ashley vance
26:47so a biography is a book about a person
26:50a real person it is a non-fiction book
26:54a biography is the story of that
26:56person's life or
26:57a part of their life that would be a
26:59biography
27:01an autobiography is the story of
27:04someone's life written by themselves so
27:07a memoir
27:09and an autobiography are very very
27:11similar
27:12this is alex trebek he passed away last
27:15fall
27:15he was one of my favorite people in the
27:18whole world
27:19on television he was the host of a show
27:22called jeopardy
27:23which is a quiz show by the way you
27:25should watch jeopardy if you want to
27:27practice your english it's a great show
27:29um alex trebek was the host of jeopardy
27:31for many many years
27:33and a few years ago he also had a book
27:36out
27:36that he wrote called the answer is which
27:39is kind of a play on words because
27:41he was the host of a quiz show so alex
27:44trebek wrote
27:45an autobiography that means it's the
27:47story about his life
27:49and he wrote it himself i'd love to see
27:52in the chat if any of you
27:54watch jeopardy it's a great show um
27:57so we talked about the martian and in
27:59the chat someone mentioned i think it
28:01was mode eggs
28:02that mentioned that it was also a movie
28:04let me scroll back to see
28:06probably going to be hard to find that
28:08but um
28:09the martian the movie of the martian is
28:12an adaptation of the novel
28:14the movie is based on the novel so
28:18sometimes you will have
28:19a novel or a book and they will make a
28:22movie out of it
28:23and then you would say that the movie is
28:25an adaptation of the novel
28:28or you would say that the movie is based
28:30on
28:31the novel
28:34um people are always anxious to hear
28:38about
28:39new releases a new release is a brand
28:42new book
28:43that's available to buy okay when i read
28:46books in a series sometimes there are
28:50five books
28:50in the series but the author is working
28:53on book six
28:54and so i'm anxiously waiting for the new
28:57release i'm waiting for the book to come
28:59out
29:00and for the book to be available for me
29:02to purchase
29:03so a new release is a book that has
29:06recently been published
29:08and that you are able to buy in a
29:10bookstore or
29:11online right now there is one series i'm
29:15reading
29:16about a robot and i can't remember the
29:18name but i'm waiting for the next book
29:20in the series
29:21hopefully there's a new release soon for
29:22that series
29:25here's the martian again you can see it
29:27says new york times best seller
29:29so a best seller is a book that sells
29:32really well
29:33a bestseller is a book that tons of
29:35people buy
29:36um the martian obviously was a
29:39bestseller
29:40and the new york times and other
29:42newspapers will have a best seller list
29:45they will actually list which books are
29:48selling
29:48really well in bookstores and online
29:52best sellers are usually the best place
29:54to look
29:55if you are looking for a book to help
29:57practice your english if you're looking
29:59for a book to read
30:00i always recommend that you look at a
30:02bestseller list because some of those
30:04books are very very interesting
30:06also there are two lists there are the
30:10fiction bestsellers and there are the
30:12non-fiction bestsellers so you can kind
30:14of choose between the two
30:15and you should be able to find the best
30:17seller list online somewhere
30:20speed reading speed reading is when
30:23someone reads a book
30:24really really quickly i am not a speed
30:27reader
30:27i read fairly quickly but i'm not a
30:30speed reader
30:31a speed reader would read like this like
30:33they would just be
30:34they usually move their hand along the
30:36page and they can just
30:38read super super fast i'm i'm not a
30:40speed reader i wish i was
30:42that would be really really handy but i
30:44am not a speed reader
30:46hey i mentioned this a few times but
30:48sometimes a book
30:50is part of a series so the lord of the
30:52rings by j.r.r tolkien was
30:54a series of books it was eventually
30:57adapted and made into a movie
30:59okay so the movies uh the lor the
31:02fellowship of the ring the two towers
31:04and the return of the king i had to look
31:06at the title
31:07are based on the novels so the movies
31:10are adapted
31:11from the novels but it is a series of
31:13books so basically that means that
31:16there's book one book two book three in
31:18the series and you can read
31:20all the books in the series
31:23um modags asks is speed reading the same
31:25as skimming
31:26i don't think so mode i think skimming
31:29is more
31:30when you try to quickly pick out parts i
31:32think speed readers
31:34actually read every single word so i
31:36think it's slightly different but
31:38skimming is also a way
31:40to quickly read a book if you buy
31:44books in a boxed set or box set
31:47they look like this they come in a nice
31:49little box
31:50you don't need bookends if you have a
31:52box set
31:53and i had to look up the term boxed set
31:56because
31:57i say box set but i think it's more
32:00common to say
32:01boxed set i might just say it too
32:02quickly but you can buy books in a box
32:05set you could also buy
32:06cds and dvds in box sets which means
32:09that it's
32:10the whole series in one nice little box
32:12which makes it really easy
32:14to put up on your shelf
