0:00this is lesson 14 of Maharaj and sifet

0:05series

0:06at the beginning of this series we

0:08learned that there are five main areas

0:10of articulation

0:14or the throat

0:17El lisen the tongue

0:21the nasal cavity and finally the lips

0:26each one of these main areas contains

0:29different points of articulation

0:32after having discussed the points of

0:34articulation 4

0:39it is time to tackle the last area of

0:43articulation which is the lips

0:45and the lips contain two points of

0:48articulation and from these two points

0:51we produce four sounds which are

0:55Fair

0:56well

0:58bear and meme

1:02and though these sounds may sound easy

1:04to produce they are still responsible

1:07for many common Stakes related to all

1:10four of these sounds so make sure you

1:12don't miss out on the common mistakes

1:14part which comes later in this lesson so

1:17let's get started with the first of the

1:19bunch which is fat

1:21fat is produced when the Upper Front

1:24Teeth make contact with the inner part

1:27of the lower lip notice that we make

1:30contact but we do not press them against

1:32one another because we still want air to

1:35be forced through it

1:37the air passing through that narrow

1:39opening produces the sound of Fe at this

1:43point of articulation

1:46f

1:48f

1:53alun

1:58[Music]

1:59f

2:01so the Upper Front Teeth are making

2:04contact with the inner part of the lower

2:07lip

2:09moving on to the second letter which is

2:12the sound of

2:16or as we call it in English well as a

2:21semi vowel but what is

2:26my vowel well

2:29we have

2:32which functions as a long vowel this

2:35happens when wow has sukoon and is

2:39preceded by a lum like the words

2:54will basically have any tashkil

2:56combination except for having sukun

2:59preceded by Dom so all other

3:02combinations are possible but they will

3:04produce a semi vowel or El Hue or media

3:08like

3:10foreign

3:14[Music]

3:25come from two different articulation

3:27points

3:30comes from

3:31which is something we explained in

3:34lesson one

3:35but as for

3:38media which is what we're talking about

3:40today it is produced from between the

3:44lips but most importantly it requires

3:47that the lips are rounded in an O shape

3:51like that

3:52this ensures that the well will be

3:55properly pronounced

3:58oh

4:01well

4:05Ouija

4:07you saw William

4:09[Music]

4:11again make sure that the lips are

4:13properly rounded

4:15the letter will not be properly produced

4:18if this rounding of the lips is not

4:21properly executed

4:24the next letter is bear

4:27we produce bat when the Two Lips make

4:30contact with one another

4:32and the sound is produced when a gush of

4:34air is released from behind the lips

4:38importantly the tongue is completely

4:41relaxed and not functioning at all

4:43if it moved or took any shape like

4:46raising the back of the tongue it will

4:48change the characteristic of the sound

4:50and it will produce a different letter

4:53so make sure that the tongue isn't a

4:55complete relaxed position

4:58up

5:02[Music]

5:06the bean

5:08so it is a fairly easy sound to produce

5:12but there is an even easier sound to

5:15produce which is the meme

5:17meme is the easiest sound to produce in

5:20any language because of how basic it is

5:24meme is produced when the two lips are

5:27sealed together stopping the flow of air

5:30coming from the mouth

5:32meanwhile the flow of air going through

5:35the nasal cavity is still going on and

5:38it has to keep going

5:40and this is exactly what makes the meme

5:43a nasal sound

5:45which means if you stop the airflow

5:48coming from the nasal cavity the sound

5:50will not be produced properly at all

5:54m

5:59um

6:00him

6:04now moving on to the most common

6:07mistakes that are made when producing

6:09these sounds

6:11first the common mistakes related to fat

6:16and the first one is

6:18the place of contact between the teeth

6:21and the lip

6:22we said that the contact is made between

6:25the front teeth and the inner part of

6:29the lower lip

6:31so the front teeth should not be making

6:33contact with the outer part of the lip

6:35when that happens the teeth will be

6:38visibly sticking out like that and when

6:41producing the sound it will be muffled

6:44and inaudible

6:46foreign

6:51the second mistake is vibrating the

6:54vocal cords when producing the fast

6:57sound

6:58fat is a voiceless sound which means

7:02that we do not vibrate the vocal cords

7:04when pronouncing it

7:05so saying

7:09with any degree of vibration of the

7:12vocal cords is considered a mistake and

7:15actually this sound there does not exist

7:18in Arabic at all so it is not used in

7:21the Quran either

7:23now moving on to the common mistakes of

7:26well

7:28if the lips are not rounded enough so

7:31they are too open the sound of whale

7:34will have a hint of alif mixed with it

7:38and that is of course a mistake and the

7:41mistake sounds like this

7:46that wheelie

7:49also tightening the lips too much will

7:52cause an improper sound or a too heavy

7:55sound of well and this happens

7:57especially when it has sheda

8:00well

8:03fine

8:06but of course the proper rounding of the

8:08lips is between too tight and too wide

8:12the second mistake is raising the middle

8:16part of the tongue when producing the

8:19well

8:20this causes a hint of yeah to be

8:23produced along with well

8:25this is a very common mistake for

8:28Turkish Learners and it sounds like this

8:31l

8:34really

8:37instead the back of the tongue is raised

8:40as you can see and this produces the

8:42proper well the third mistake is

8:45pronouncing well as a heavy letter

8:47especially when it is followed by a

8:50heavy letter

8:52like in this example

8:54voila

8:56so we don't say

8:59that is incorrect

9:02but we say

9:04[Music]

9:07now for the common mistakes related to

9:10bet the first Common mistake related to

9:13Bear is pronouncing it as a voiceless

9:16sound pair like the one used in English

9:20while the proper bet is actually a

9:23voiced sound bear

9:26so the mistake sounds like this

9:30Bismillah

9:35but he should know that this sound is

9:36not used in the Quran at all so bad

9:40should not be pronounced as per

9:43another mistake of the bet is

9:45pronouncing it as a heavy full mouth

9:48letter when it is followed by a heavy

9:51sound

9:52like in this word

9:54[Music]

9:58we don't say

10:01but we should say

10:04foreign

10:09so it should not be affected by the

10:12heavy letter that follows it

10:14finally the mistakes related to meme

10:18and the first mistake is adding the

10:20sound of hair at the end of the meme

10:25as means of trying to show the meme

10:27clearly like that

10:30him

10:36this exaggeration is of course a bad

10:38practice and should not be done because

10:41it's like adding another letter to the

10:43word the opposite of this is also a

10:46common mistake which is not following

10:48through with the Honda sound enough when

10:51producing the meme at the end of the

10:53word making the meme almost inaudible

10:56and actually closer to the sound of bear

10:59the mistake sounds like this

11:04while the proper pronunciation of meme

11:07is somewhere in between

11:13so do not exaggerate or cut the sound

11:16too early

11:18so this was the last lesson in the

11:22Maharaj series

11:23but don't forget that this series is

11:25made up of two parts

11:28and sufed the next lesson in sha Allah

11:32will start discussing this effect of the

11:34letters in the Quran which is in my

11:37opinion as important if not more

11:39important than the technicalities of

11:42pronunciation so don't miss out your

11:44chance to improve and polish your Quran

11:47recitation
