Abdal Musa ve Hål
0:00----translated by Prof.Dr. Nükhet Kardam----
0:01When we went to the tomb of Abdal Musa,
0:04I saw a writing there, his own saying which said:
0:07A person undergoes a thousand one (1001) states (hal) in one day. Yes, a thousand and one states
0:16People experience many changes according to their emotional states during the course of a day.
0:22But the particular state (hal)
0:27of a person at the moment of death continues and that is what God sees and accepts.
0:36In fact, I am remembering the story you told us in the previous sohbet about the ant.
0:44And the person in that story who saw an angel in his dream.
0:51That person put his own name on everything he did
0:56But a moment arrived when he did not care about himself but only
1:03cared about that ant.
1:08He picked up the ant without seeking anything in return.
1:12Acted completely for the ‘other’ Not for his own self interest.
1:18So he began to be evaluated according to this state
1:23Yes, an act with no expectations That is why, after that,
1:31he continued in that state, And therefore, in his dream the angel
1:35delivered the good news that he was forgiven. But they knew him well
1:40Therefore they sent him an ant and not a big elephant!
1:46Otherwise he might have written his name on the elephant!
1:52Serhan, what you are telling us is important. There are two different kinds of activities here in this story
1:57In the first one, the person in the story did beneficial things.
2:01But he put his signature on each one. This may be called ‘Sacrifice’
Fedakarlık ve Feragat
2:06We call this ‘sacrifice’ because he could have spent his money elsewhere, and he didn’t
2:12But it was still not accepted. Why?
2:14Because he advertised himself. In the second case, however, there is no sacrifice.
2:21What is there? There is abdication instead. That’s why he was forgiven.
2:28When we sacrifice, we get a reward But in order to be forgiven, we need to abdicate
2:33So sacrifice is ‘Shariat’ Whereas, abdication is ‘Marifet’
2:46Abdication is the ethics of the mother Sacrifice is the ethics of the father.
2:54The father pays for his children for their clothes and other necessities instead of giving up himself.
3:00He gives money, he gives goods, he pays for his kids’ schooling.
3:09The mother, on the other hand, gives her own body.
3:13She gives up herself. She gives up her sleep.
3:16Our bodies are our mothers’ bodies.
3:22In other words, everybody’s body is feminine.
3:26Because it comes from the mother.
3:29But the father helps to create the baby.
3:32Yes, in fact, the gender of the baby comes from the father. Unfortunately our culture is not aware of this.
3:38You know, in the villages, and unfortunately in the cities as well.
3:43In spite of all the scientific knowledge that exists, a man can divorce his wife
3:48because she hasn’t borne him a son. He goes to another woman, yet another woman
3:52But he doesn’t know that he has the XY Chromosome and he determines the gender of the baby.
3:57Women have the XX chromosome which doesn’t determine gender
4:03How interesting isn’t it? He is blaming women, whereas he is the one to blame.
4:09Actually no one is to blame because this is a biological process. See how our cultural norms are destructive?
4:17We have seen in movies where the sultans of the Ottoman empire tell their concubines:
4:22I will wed you when you give me a son! Otherwise not.
4:28Anyway, let us move on.
4:30We talked about ‘Symbol’ (Word) earlier Symbol is not a transparent concept. It is not totally perceptible to our consciousness.
4:36Because a person’s consciousness is not just on the surface. There is also the subconscious realm.
4:43Thank God, A genius like Freud entered
Freud ve Bilinçdışı
4:49this area of religion with scientific knowledge.
4:55Otherwise scientific knowledge had been placed in opposition to religion.
5:01Freud arrived and said: wait a minute! Not everything can be explained by rationality
5:07Only one ninth (1/9) of the iceberg can be explained by rationality. The rest of the iceberg constitutes.
5:14The subconscious realm. The subconscious merging with our instincts
5:19actually shape our consciousness and we make many mistakes.
5:25And sometimes behave in reprehensible ways as a result of this. Where is the responsibility here?
5:29Isn’t it true that therapy is needed here to purify ourselves?
5:33See where we arrived?
5:34Right at the Sufi prerogative to purify ourselves. We arrive at the same place
5:42So we can call Freud, a rational scientist in terms of the methods he used, an ‘Alim’,
5:52But based on the fact that he knew where the reasons of a person’s behavior came from,
5:58We need to call him ‘Arif’. So as the people of Marifet would say
6:07If we only listen to the people in our own circle and belief system,
6:12in our own location and value their words,
6:16and not pay attention to others outside our own communities, We miss out a lot and don’t hear God’s Words, His various manifestations.
6:23Suppose you belong to a particular religion or a particular tarikat,
6:31according to you, Freud is an atheist. And you refuse to accept or approve his findings.
6:40But see, Freud is a particular manifestation of the Word of God
6:44That combines ‘Ilim’ and ‘Irfan’. Combining Ilim (scientific knowledge) with Irfan (Understanding and direct perception)
6:51The question is: Can you see the face of God Everywhere?
6:56That is my point and that’s what the people of Marifet see. Now we talked earlier about a person’s state (hal)
7:01And how it would continue After a person’s death. This is important
7:06I am inspired by this word “Hal’ And would like to talk about it some more.
7:10As I am inspired to investigate it, As it is coming directly from Marifetullah
Hål
7:14The word ‘Hal’ is very interesting. We say ‘Mahalle’ which today means a particular location
7:20Originally, this word was connected to one’s state (Hal) But today, we have lost that meaning
7:26And define ‘mahalle’ as a physical location. What ‘mahalle’ do you live in?
7:30I live in Firuzaga mahallesi. So you live in Firuzaga.
7:35Actually that is just a location (mekan) and has nothing to do with hal (state)
7:42So a person of Marifet has said that
7:49The Divine Word that was received by Moses,
7:54The Word of God, And the Word offered to the philosopher are not the same.
8:05Why?
8:07Because the Word of God that Moses received was based on Moses’ state (hal)
8:15whereas the Word of God received by the philosopher is commensurate with his intellectual understanding.
8:19In other words, one is intellectual based on rationality, on the mind
8:27and the other is based on one’s state (hal) So does that mean what is offered to Moses.
8:32Is deeper?
8:36No, what I am trying to explain is beyond whether it is deeper or not.
8:41So in our mind, for instance, we can sit down and study engineering
8:46We can find out how to build something.
8:51All the methods related to it at the university Right? We can receive a diploma
8:55And we can ‘know’ engineering in our mind but not in our state (hal) Do we have a state called ‘engineering’? No
9:01We don’t have it in our hal (state) So, our mind knows ‘things’, objects
9:08but it doesn’t know hal (state). The mind does not know its own state
9:12or someone else’s state. To know about hal (state) is something spiritual
9:17And that’s why we need spiritual psychology. That’s why we have Freud, Jung, Lacan
9:23And many others who have worked in this area. Such people are the gift of God to humanity.
9:31We can learn something very important from the people of Marifet,
9:36that the Word of God exists everywhere in the world
9:40in every belief system, in every culture
9:45Yes, People of Marifet, based on their states, are able to bring people, humanity, to unity,
9:55whereas ‘Ilim’ separates.
9:58Because Ilim is categorical. Ilim needs to separate, of course.
10:02You can’t put down Ilim because it is separating everything. Of course it would. For instance, you have to separate architecture from engineering.
10:09You have to separate medicine from art.
10:14But Marifet is not like this. Marifet takes all of these, the states in all of these,
10:18and brings them to unity with the help of ‘maya’ (yeast) Maya (Yeast) is necessary for this process.
10:29Here is a good example.
Süt, Maya, Tereyağ
10:36People of marifet say that milk is ‘Shariat’
10:43In other words, it is natural, it doesn’t belong to us It comes from nature.
10:47It comes from God. So we can drink milk as it is
10:54Babies drink milk because it is just right for them. If you give cheese to babies, it won’t work
11:01Or if you give butter, The baby would throw up. But there is
11:08the potential to make cheese or butter in milk. So milk is just right for babies’ state
11:14It is a gift to them but giving a baby cheese would be a torture. Can you give meat to a baby, for example lamp chops? No
11:20Right. The baby needs to grow and his/her state would
11:27needs to change in order to enjoy what milk has to offer such as butter or cheese.
11:32So milk is like the Sheriat.
11:37Let us see what there is inside this milk,
11:42investigating the components of the milk Is ‘Tarikat’, meaning learning the ways,
11:49the methods, and experiment to find out what is in the milk.
11:55To do research. There is this, there is that
12:00And as a result we find out the truths (hakikatler) Let’s continue along these lines.
12:06I was raised in the highlands with freedom.
12:112500 meters high watching the beautiful skies.
12:18That’s the life I led. There we had ‘Yayik’ (barrel)
12:25Our parents and grandparents
12:28And mothers, put the milk inside the yayik (barrel),
12:34and shook it No, that’s not how it worked. First, you would
12:42need to add yeast to the milk And wait a while, when it is ready, then
12:47you put that milk inside the ‘yayik’ Yayik is a barrel that is hung sideways, from the ceiling,
12:56and you swing it back and forth,
13:00either one person does it, or it is even better with two people
13:04In some parts of Anatolia, we have ‘gübük’ That is not like yayik but it is also
13:09like a barrel and there we use a big stick to swing it and shake it.
13:16Now my teacher Ihya Efendi used to say:
13:20My son, Milk is like Sheriat. Then we start to investigate the ‘tarikat’ of the milk.
13:26How? We ask what is in the milk Where do we do this?
13:33Inside the yayik We add the yeast to the milk, and put it inside the yayik
13:39What is meant by yeast here? The yeast is the yeast of muhabbet (love) and we wait for a while
13:45and when it starts to turn into yogurt Then we start to swing the yayik (barrel)
13:50Doing zikr, Allah Allah Allah
14:00Then the yogurt separates into butter, and ayran (a yogurt drink)
14:04The butter is Hakikat (reality, truth) So we found the ‘Hakikat’ in the milk
14:10We did that but now what do we do with this Hakikat?
14:16We now have to decide whether we will use the butter to make baklava or soup or something else.
14:22What kind of meal are we going to prepare with this butter? That is Marifet.
14:29So ‘Hakikat’ exists for the sake of ‘Marifet’. That’s why Jesus Christ
14:38is considered to be the symbol of ‘Hakikat’. The Qur’an calls Jesus ‘Ruhullah’ (Sprit of Allah)
14:45Whereas Muhammed is the symbol of “Marifet’ And not only the Marifet of the ‘Hakikat’ of Jesus alone,
14:50But also the Marifet of all previous prophets.
14:54In other words, Prophet Muhammed has unified all the gifts of previous prophets in himself.
15:01As you know, Ibn Arabi in his work, called the ‘Bezels of Wisdom’, has a chapter on each of the twenty-seven prophets,
15:08And the last chapter is on Prophet Muhammed, who represents the individuated human being,
15:14is the truth of all truths, We call this ‘hakikatü’l hakaik’.
15:19This means vücud (body) - that which manifests in every being,
15:28has a particular climate in every being. But then there is the ‘Sultan’ of them all.
15:35Isn’t there? There is the Sultan of all. Well, let’s see the Marifet.
Sinan Yasdıman “Vücud İklimi’nin Sultanı Sensin” isimli eseri seslendiriyor.
