0:00Today I'm going to show you why the
0:02Alpha Strike perk can actually be a
0:04good filler option for your wheel . I've
0:08seen several videos from people on
0:09YouTube about this new feature from the
0:11update , but I've seen few people
0:13talking about this perk , right ? Most
0:16focused on saying : " Oh , the best perks
0:18are the combat skill ones . " And they
0:21also said , right ? " Oh , and if you hunt
0:24in one spawn and the same hunt always ,
0:27then focus on the bestiary class perk . "
0:31But to me , that's really crappy ,
0:33because a generic answer is not the
0:35best answer . We always need context .
0:38When someone comes here to the YouTube
0:40chat and says , " Porfs , make a video
0:42about proficiencies , " it makes no sense
0:44to talk about that , because we need
0:46context . We need to know , oh , what
0:49level are you , which hunt are you
0:51playing in , are you playing solo or in
0:53a party ? All of this is important for
0:55us to say which is the best perk . The
0:58best perk for hunt A might not be the
0:59best perk for hunt B. So , we need
1:01context . And it's the same thing you're
1:04already used to , for 4 years , I don't
1:06know , I don't know how many years we've
1:08had the same questions without context ,
1:10always existing everywhere . YouTube
1:13chat , Twitch chat , where someone shows
1:15up saying : " Make the best wheel for an
1:18RP 500 ? " What a crappy question , man .
1:21Dude , what is the spawn you're playing
1:23in , man ? I need to know what the spawn
1:25is to tell you , to help you . So a
1:27generic answer is not good . We need
1:30context . And given the right context ,
1:33Alpha Strike , which is an alternative
1:36perk , ends up being the best perk . So
1:39let's learn the context for when it is
1:41the best perk . First of all , I'm going
1:44to show a little simulation here to
1:45explain more or less how it works . This
1:48right here is a character that doesn't
1:50exist . This is really just to show you
1:52guys . Build A is comparing a Stone
1:55Shower with Alpha Strike and build B ,
1:58the same character without the strike .
2:01And build A with Alpha Strike has a
2:040.84 increase in damage per turn .
2:08However , when we come here to the next
2:10comparison , it's the same character ,
2:12only now it got stronger . Before it had
2:15fewer wheel points , right ? This right
2:17here is logically just for simulation
2:18purposes . Yeah , it's a level one with a
2:20lot of damage gear . But then it got
2:23stronger and the damage went down . But
2:25why does that happen ? Oh , and also
2:26remember , this is a simulation on a
2:28burning guardito that has 10,000 HP ,
2:29right ? So I'll show you visually why a
2:33damage increase made a percentage
2:35increase here drop from 84 to 48 . It's
2:40because in this comparison scenario , we
2:42were hitting a mob with 10,000 HP . Our
2:46spell in the first instance was hitting
2:49for about 435 on average . We didn't
2:53have Omega , we only had Alpha . And the
2:56Alpha bonus was 10 % . Uh-huh . And if I'm
3:00not mistaken , that simulation had a
3:02damage variance of about 2 % . Got it ?
3:05That's what's happening . This graph
3:07here shows the kill progression . The
3:11first hit will always land . It's 100 %
3:14certain you'll land a hit on a mob with
3:1710,000 HP . However , the second hit is
3:19no longer 100 % because of that variance .
3:22If I zero out that variance , then it's
3:25a 100 % probability I hit the mob and
3:27it'll be at 9,526 . It's always like
3:31this , right ? Which is actually what's
3:33happening here ? It's 435 plus the 10 %
3:36from Alpha , giving 478 . Then you
3:39subtract that from the 10,000 , and
3:41you'll be at 9,521 here . I just
3:44couldn't leave it here , but trust me ,
3:45that's what it is . I'll go back to 2 %
3:47here . But what's important ? It's that
3:51this first hit takes less than 500 . So
3:56the next hit is still within the range
3:59where Alpha Strike gets a bonus ,
4:01because it's a damage range above 95 % .
4:0595 % of 10,000 is above 9,500 . So the
4:09second hit also gets the bonus . That's
4:11why in this situation with less damage ,
4:14it does more damage , right ? It's
4:16counterintuitive , but when you get
4:18stronger , it ends up doing less damage .
4:22So , if we go here to do about , uh , 470 ,
4:25I think that's enough , it already
4:27dropped to 47 , which is exactly what's
4:30in the simulation , 48 , anyway , super
4:33close . Why ? Because 470 plus 10 % gives
4:37more than 500 damage . And 500 damage
4:39makes the second hit us . And moving on ,
4:46strike is a good perk to use as your
4:48character gets stronger , because it
4:50amplifies your first hit of damage . The
4:53more damage you deal , the greater this
4:55damage increase becomes . So , if I stay
4:57here , increasing the damage , what's
4:59going to happen ? You’ll see that the
5:01gain here will start to increase . So ,
5:03I'll just keep holding this down , and
5:05you’ll see the damage going up .
5:08I’ll also remove the damage variance
5:09so you can understand this mechanic .
5:11Why is this damage increasing ? What is
5:14actually happening here ? Currently , the
5:18first hit is gaining the alpha bonus ,
5:21and then it needs eight more hits to
5:23kill the mob , totaling nine hits to
5:26kill . In other words , one hit gets the
5:32bonus , eight don't . As I get stronger ,
5:35what will happen ? Now I kill in eight .
5:39So one hit gets the bonus , seven don't .
5:44So the proportion of hits within that
5:46window only increases as you get
5:49stronger because you need fewer total
5:51hits to kill the mob . So , if we
5:57continue here , you'll see it go to
6:00seven , to six , to five , and so on . And
6:04every time you make that jump , you
6:06increase your bonus . And if , for
6:11example , you kill a creature on average
6:14in three hits , the bonus here is 3 % .
6:17This , for instance , is already higher
6:19than a bestiary class bonus , which goes
6:21up to a maximum of 2.5 % . Well , this was
6:23just so you could see visually how the
6:26perk works . Now for practical
6:28applications , since we need some
6:30context . So , in this first simulation ,
6:33I took an EK at level 1000 hunting
6:35Hellspawns using a Crypt Slicer . At
6:39this level , comparing build A with 10 %
6:42alpha and build B with ... I don't even
6:44know what the Crypt Slicer is , I think
6:46it's a sword , right ? So the sword
6:49counts here and the other skills aren't
6:51making any difference in this
6:53simulation . At this level , the skill is
6:56still better , but we just learned that
6:58strike is a perk that scales with your
7:00character's strength . So if we increase
7:02the character's strength here , the
7:04alpha tends to get better . So here ,
7:07let's set an EK 1300 hunting Hellspawns
7:09. Alright , this Off-Strike perk is
7:12better , but then you'll say : " Yeah , but
7:15Off-Strike is proving better than the
7:17Combat Skill perk for spell damage . " "
7:20However , we still have the Bestiary
7:22perk option here . " So , if I put Human
7:25Bestiary here , the Human Bestiary perk
7:27will definitely win . No , sure , I agree
7:29with you , that's the obvious answer .
7:32However , if this guy is an EK Club user
7:34, for example , so if this guy is an EK
7:36Club , right ? So here is another
7:38simulation , it's the same character ,
7:40nothing changed at all . Here I just
7:42changed to a Bloodion and it's the same
7:45creature , the Brittle . Oh , alright . So
7:48in this case , right , he's still losing .
7:51He needs more levels to start breaking
7:53even , right ? So what did we do here ,
7:55right ? The first one was a Cryptic
7:58Sword , now it's a Club . But the EK Club
8:01can hunt Boltar , for example . So if you
8:04take this same character with the
8:06Bloodion and put him hunting Boltar , by
8:09level 975 , the build with Off-Strike is
8:12already better because Bloodion wrecks
8:14the Boltar . Yeah , the poison elemental
8:19damage is very high . So , if this guy
8:23isn't someone who stays fixed on one
8:25hunt and rotates a lot , like , " Oh , I'm
8:27hunting here , or I'm hunting there , " it
8:30makes sense for him to use a perk
8:32that's good on average rather than good
8:34at just one . And what if he's stronger ,
8:37right ? So , we go back here to where
8:39he's losing . Let's put a level here so
8:41he can win . Maybe 1100 . Look , at 1500
8:45he still doesn't win . The problem is
8:47that if I take this 1500 and plug it
8:49into Boltar here , it's giving an
8:51increase of 666 . And here a bit less .
8:56Alright , but on average , there's no
8:58debate . Here you're losing a little
9:00damage using Off-Strike , but here
9:02you're gaining much more . If you hunt
9:04both spawns on average with the same
9:06frequency , the better perk is
9:08Off-Strike . Another option , for example
9:12, is an EK , the same EK with a
9:14Soulshredder , hunting the Ferumbras DT
9:17seal , right , which has a lot of Dark
9:19Torturers and Vexclaws , which are
9:22creatures with low health . Already at
9:25level 975 he's almost passing it , so he
9:29needs a little bit , maybe 150 more
9:32levels to be better . Oh , alright .
9:36Already at level 1050 it got better .
9:38And here it’s the same conclusion . Oh
9:39, but I could use the damage perk for
9:42the demon bestiary class , which will be
9:45better than that one . Yes , that makes
9:47sense . But only if this guy stays in
9:49this spawn . If this guy doesn’t stay
9:55in the same spawn and varies it , but
9:58hunts in several places with this same
10:01behavior , which is low-level mobs and
10:04he shreds the mob , alpha strike is the
10:07best perk . This isn't just for , this is
10:11for mages , this is for paladins ,
10:13actually . So you take here , I did the
10:16simulation here a long time ago , right ?
10:19RP level 1700 hunting at feyrist ,
10:22comparing the alpha , right , of 10 %
10:24against the distance fight here as
10:27damage in the spells of eight , right ?
10:31So 10 in build A , 18 in build B. For
10:33feyrist where the mobs have very high
10:35HP , right , considerably very high , it
10:38is expected that build B with the
10:40combat skill perk as damage for spells
10:42ends up being better . However , right ,
10:45let's do the same thing . If I take out
10:48these mobs with lots of health and put
10:51in a mob , for example , a spark , then
10:53you'll tell me : " Ah , but I've never
10:55seen a level 1700 paladin hunting
10:58sparks . " " Man , I guarantee you it exists
11:01, I guarantee you there is someone like
11:03that . " The alpha strike perk is very
11:05good . I'm using an extreme example , I
11:09am . But what I want to show you is : if
11:12we have this mindset that for creatures
11:15with little health , alpha strike is
11:17good , and then the perk for mobs with a
11:20lot of health doesn't work , there is a
11:22region here where the perk stops being
11:25good and starts losing to other options
11:27. And it's not up to me to say : " Oh ,
11:30this is where you need to change the
11:33perk or this is where the perk stops
11:35being good . " We need context . I need to
11:38know your level . I need to know your
11:40skill . I need to know if you hunt
11:41slowly or if you hunt fast , if you lure
11:43a lot of mobs on the screen . We need
11:46all this context to be able to know the
11:48right answer to anything . And I hope
11:51that with this video , you spark an
11:53interest in knowing for your context ,
11:55for the individuality of your spawn , if
11:58this perk makes sense for you or not .
12:01And obviously , there will be people in
12:04this video saying : " Man , this is way
12:06too much effort for a negligible damage
12:08gain . " I prefer to use the generic
12:12combat skill perk and damage on spells
12:15because they’ll be the best most of
12:18the time . And honestly , my answer to a
12:22comment like that is that I have no
12:24problem with you doing that . You have
12:28every right not to be 100 % efficient in
12:29your gameplay . You can play however you
12:32want . I’m not forcing you to do
12:33anything . I am not holding a gun to
12:35your head saying . Do the math and
12:37choose the best perk . I’m not doing
12:40that . I’m just showing that maybe ,
12:43you know , it's a possibility that the
12:46way you play , you might not be using
12:49the best perk . If you want to be on the
12:52side of people who are satisfied
12:54playing like that , that’s fine , stay
12:55there . But I prefer to be on the side
12:59of people who spend 20 minutes on the
13:01site to choose the best perk and have
13:03the confidence that they're playing at
13:05100 % of the character's strength .
13:08That’s all for today . Thanks , see ya .
