0:00Frieza suddenly saves Goku's life,
0:01[music] and nobody can figure out why.
0:02It begins during a massive battle on a
0:04dying planet. Goku is about [music] to
0:06finish Frieza with one final Kamehameha
0:08when a crack suddenly tears through the
0:09sky. Before anyone can react, a black
0:11beam shoots directly toward Goku's back.
0:13Everyone expects Frieza to move [music]
0:14aside. Instead, Frieza throws himself in
0:16front of Goku. The beam strikes Frieza,
0:18sending him crashing into [music] the
0:19ground. Goku freezes in disbelief. Even
0:21Vegeta can't understand what he just
0:22witnessed. Frieza slowly stands up,
0:23brushes the dust off his armor, and
0:25coldly says, "Don't misunderstand.
0:26[music] I wasn't saving you." Then he
0:27flies away. Nobody believes him. Days
0:29later, the same black beam appears
0:30again. This time, it ignores everyone
0:32else and races toward Goku. Before Goku
0:34can dodge, Frieza appears once more and
0:35blocks it without saying a word. Now
0:37even Beerus becomes [music] suspicious.
0:38Why would Frieza repeatedly risk his own
0:40life for his greatest enemy? Whis
0:41follows the strange energy across the
0:42universe and discovers something
0:44impossible. The beam never targeted
0:45Goku. It was following Frieza. Goku
0:47confronts him, asking why he never told
0:49anyone. Frieza laughs, "Because [music]
0:50if you knew it wanted me, you idiots
0:52would have tried to protect me."
0:53Silence. For the first time, nobody has
0:55an answer. [music] Frieza turns around
0:56and walks away alone, leading the black
0:58beam with him into deep space. Hours
1:00later, the beam disappears forever. When
1:01Goku asks [music] Whis what happened,
1:03Whis quietly smiles. It finally caught
1:04the one it was chasing. Everyone looks
1:06toward the empty stars. Then a familiar
1:07voice echoes across the universe. "Took
1:09[music] you long enough." Frieza flies
1:10back out of the darkness completely
1:11unharmed. The black beam wasn't trying
1:13to kill him. It had been testing whether
1:14the most selfish man in the universe
1:16would ever choose [music] someone else's
1:17life over his own. And for the first
1:18time, Frieza had passed.
