0:00In the early 1900s, a woman wrote what I
0:02believe are some of the most important
0:04books ever written on consciousness and
0:06the relationship between the inner world
0:08and the outer world. And most people
0:10know her classic The Game of Life and
0:12How to Play It, but hidden in the shadow
0:13of that book is another shorter,
0:15simpler, and arguably even more profound
0:18book, Your Word Is Your Wand. Today,
0:21neuroscience tells us that the words we
0:22repeatedly speak reinforce neural
0:24pathways. They change how we perceive
0:26and interact with the world, but
0:27Florence Scovel Shinn believed they did
0:29even more. That every word you speak
0:31sends a powerful vibration into the
0:33quantum field and crystallizes what you
0:36speak into reality itself. In today's
0:38episode, we're going to unpack why this
0:39nearly century-old book is more relevant
0:41than ever and how changing the way that
0:43you speak may just be the most powerful
0:46tool that you can start using today to
0:48re-engineer your tomorrow. So, let's get
0:50into it.
0:53All right, guys. Everything in this book
0:56literally revolves around one sentence,
0:59and that is your word is your wand. And
1:02Florence doesn't mean this
1:03metaphorically. She literally means that
1:06the words that you speak are like
1:08casting spells. And you know what? It's
1:11probably no coincidence that a big part
1:13of our education and use of language is
1:16a thing called spelling. I mean, come
1:18on. We are spell casters. And the thing
1:21is, most of us have a pretty crappy
1:23filter on the words that we speak. We
1:25are not careful with our tongue, and I'm
1:27including myself in the we here, guys,
1:29because
1:30how often do you find yourself saying,
1:32"I'm tired. I don't feel good. I don't
1:34have time. It's going to be hard." It is
1:37so easy to complain, to judge, and not
1:41just ourselves, but others as well. And
1:44what Florence says is that every time
1:47you open your mouth, it is a creative
1:48act. Like when you speak positive words,
1:52you are blessing yourself. You're
1:53blessing others. When you speak
1:55negatively over yourself or your life,
1:57you are literally cursing yourself. So,
2:00every sentence that you repeatedly speak
2:02is a command to the subconscious and a
2:05declaration to what she calls divine
2:06law. And so, your words are seeds that
2:09you are planting and they eventually
2:11become your reality. This is so
2:13important to understand
2:15because it can feel like trying to
2:18change your beliefs, even just becoming
2:20aware of them, or the way that you think
2:23or the way that you feel
2:24is hard. And that may in and of itself
2:28be a limiting belief, but it is much
2:30easier to be aware of what you're saying
2:33and to change the way that you speak.
2:36So, one of the really powerful tools in
2:38personal growth that I don't think has
2:40gotten very much attention, that really
2:43isn't spoken about very much, no pun
2:45intended, is to use your language and
2:48what you speak on a regular basis
2:51as a way to change your consciousness.
2:52So, I'm going to walk you through five
2:54principles from Your Word Is Your Wand
2:57that you can take and use as a framework
3:00to go beyond today's episode and create
3:03real change in yourself and in your
3:04life.
3:05Principle number one, what you say
3:07reveals what you think. Now, this is a
3:10super powerful and super simple
3:12observation that Florence makes. She
3:13says that your words reveal your
3:16consciousness. In other words, if I was
3:18to walk around for a week and record
3:20everything that you say,
3:21we'd have a pretty good idea of what
3:23your current state of consciousness is.
3:25Like, what you believe about yourself,
3:26what you believe about money, what you
3:28believe about time, about relationships,
3:31whether you were someone who was
3:32confident or someone who was indecisive,
3:35someone who compared yourself to other
3:36people or who had high self-esteem or
3:39personal insecurities.
3:41Your thoughts, which are very subtle
3:44vibrations,
3:45make their way into reality first and
3:48foremost through your speech.
3:50In other words,
3:52your mouth is like a portal between your
3:55inner world and the external reality.
3:57And the words that flow out become the
3:59seeds that you're planting into your
4:01reality. And this is so true. You know,
4:03if you're hanging out with someone who
4:05has a lot of self-confidence, they don't
4:07use words that would sound like
4:09people-pleasing. They don't constantly
4:11apologize. They don't say things to try
4:13to impress other people. Their words
4:15prove who they are, and who they are is
4:18their consciousness. But on the other
4:19hand, if you're hanging out with someone
4:20who is financially insecure, for
4:23example, they'll put down other people
4:25who have money. They'll talk about how
4:27they never have enough money. They'll
4:28talk about how they can't afford things
4:30or how money is hard to make because
4:32that's the current state of their
4:33consciousness. What's amazing about this
4:35is that if you can begin to catch
4:37yourself and the words that you speak
4:40that are not in alignment with the
4:41reality that you want, and you close the
4:44portal, right? You close your mouth,
4:47over time, you'll literally choke that
4:49old consciousness out, and your reality
4:51will begin to change. I mean, think
4:53about this.
4:54Think about if you could just go 7 days
4:57without complaining.
4:59Like, if you could go 7 days without
5:00complaining, what a new habit you would
5:02be building inside of yourself?
5:05And what a different person you would
5:06be? Because you would no longer be a
5:08person who's complaining.
5:10And if you were no longer a person who's
5:12complaining, do you think if you were
5:14able to build that kind of discipline,
5:16it might start to change your
5:17perception, change your relationships,
5:20change your reality?
5:22Science actually tells us that it will.
5:24There was a well-known mental and
5:25physical conditioning coach. I've talked
5:27about him before, Trevor Moawad, and he
5:29worked with collegiate and professional
5:31athletes. And what he discovered was
5:33that negative language and complaining
5:35dramatically affected athletic
5:38performance. And so, he worked with
5:40championship players and teams like
5:41Russell Wilson, the University of
5:43Alabama football team, Florida State's
5:452013 national championship team, and he
5:48focused almost exclusively on what's
5:51called language reconditioning.
5:53And there was a massive direct
5:55correlation between players and teams
5:57who learned to speak optimistically
5:59and their increase in performance on the
6:02football field. Literally, by learning
6:03to eliminate complaining and negative
6:05self-talk, they were able to increase
6:07their performance. And what Moawad found
6:10was that negative speech was actually 10
6:12times more powerful than positive
6:14speech. And so, here we're not even
6:16talking about having uncover your
6:17limiting beliefs and change your
6:18beliefs. We're not talking about having
6:20a perfect mindset. We're not even
6:22talking about speaking positively all
6:25the time. We're just saying eliminate
6:27the negative self-talk and your negative
6:30language, and you can dramatically
6:31increase your life results. And this
6:33makes sense
6:35when you understand principle number
6:36two.
6:37Principle number two, your words
6:39reinforce your identity.
6:41Now, it's one thing for someone to tell
6:43you that you can't afford something or
6:45that money is hard to make or even that
6:48you're not good enough or you don't
6:49deserve to be loved or that you're not
6:50worthy of abundance.
6:52But it's a much different thing when you
6:53tell yourself that. When you speak it
6:56and hear it in your own words, because
6:58when others speak negatively about you,
7:01it still has to pass through your
7:02conscious filter. Like, okay, do I
7:04believe what they're saying? Do I agree
7:05with it? Like, what do I even think
7:07about this person? Do I value what this
7:09person has to say? Do I trust what this
7:11person has to say?
7:12And while we may all find ourselves at
7:15different times being influenced by what
7:16other people say and think, at least we
7:18have a filter here. But when you say
7:20something about yourself,
7:22it penetrates directly to the
7:25subconscious mind. Why?
7:27Because when you speak about yourself in
7:29a particular way,
7:31you assume it to be true. Like, I always
7:33mess up. I never get it right. It's
7:35always my fault. Those words reinforce
7:38the old limiting beliefs, and And
7:40continue to strengthen the neural
7:42pathways that have built your identity
7:45and keep you locked into that identity.
7:47And therefore that reality because your
7:49identity is always going to reflect back
7:51to you who you believe yourself to be.
7:53The good news is that when we use the
7:56same process, we can actually begin to
7:59rebuild or reprogram our identity. This
8:01is why affirmations can be so powerful.
8:03When we affirm ourselves, that also goes
8:06directly to the subconscious mind and
8:07starts to reprogram who we believe
8:09ourselves to be. So I am worthy. I am
8:11good enough. I'm always learning. Every
8:14day and every way I'm getting better and
8:16getting stronger. I want you to think
8:17about how do you speak about yourself
8:19today?
8:20Do you speak about yourself using
8:22powerful language?
8:24Or do you sometimes use negative, which
8:26is destructive language?
8:29And just notice for the next 24 hours
8:31what words you speak about yourself. Do
8:33a little inventory.
8:34Even if you notice just a couple of
8:36times that you were about to say
8:37something negative about yourself, and
8:39you keep that portal closed, that will
8:41begin to create powerful subconscious
8:44shifts that over time will change not
8:46only your life, but will also change
8:48you. Again, it's not about doing this
8:50perfectly. It's about making small
8:51changes that produce dramatic results in
8:53your life. I think that's why Christ
8:54said all you need is the faith of a
8:56mustard seed to tell the mountain to go
8:58from here to there. The mustard seed was
8:59the smallest seed. Small changes create
9:02dramatic results. Principle number
9:04three, faith is certainty before
9:06evidence seen. This is one of my
9:08favorite things that Florence talks
9:10about. A lot of modern readers think
9:12that Florence is talking about positive
9:14thinking, but that's actually not
9:16accurate. What she's obsessed with is
9:19one thing, which is faith.
9:21Not hope, she says. Hope says I wish.
9:25Faith says it already exists and it's
9:27only a matter of time. And so she really
9:30emphasizes the importance of faith,
9:33right? Faith of those things that that
9:35yet seen. And she continually tells
9:37stories about people acting as though
9:39their answer already exists. She talks
9:41about one client of hers who is buying
9:43furniture before the house even
9:44appeared. Another one who is preparing a
9:46room before the opportunity even
9:48arrived. Another person giving money
9:49when they actually didn't really have
9:51much to give or making plans before
9:53circumstances justify themselves. These
9:56are what she called demonstrations of
9:58faith.
9:59And one of my favorite distinction from
10:00her work is this.
10:02Hope waits. Faith prepares.
10:05And that is a phenomenal distinction.
10:07And how does it relate to the words that
10:08you speak? Stop speaking as if you're
10:11waiting. Acknowledge today that I am
10:14healthy.
10:15I am abundant. I am worthy today.
10:19Because the truth is that there is a
10:20healthy, wealthy,
10:23worthy version of you that does exist
10:25right here, right now. It's just that
10:26that version simply hasn't materialized
10:28yet. That current version of you, the
10:30you right now, is one version of you. It
10:33is really old news. It's a byproduct of
10:36how you've been thinking and feeling and
10:37speaking in the past.
10:39But so what? Today is a new day. And
10:42what you speak today becomes your
10:43soon-to-be tomorrow. This is why so many
10:46people struggle with the idea of
10:49incantations or affirmations. They say,
10:50"Yeah, but well, what I'm saying is not
10:52true. I'm not healthy. I'm sick. I'm not
10:54wealthy. I'm broke. I'm not worthy." But
10:57we live in a multi-dimensional reality.
10:59We only perceive one sliver of that
11:01reality, a third-dimensional reality
11:03that our senses can detect. But there's
11:04a fourth-dimensional field where all
11:06possibilities exist right here, right
11:08now. The great mystic Neville Goddard's
11:10spoke about this.
11:11And that reality is as equally valid as
11:14this third-dimensional,
11:16five-senses reality that sort of
11:18dominates our attention. But we dismiss
11:20it
11:21because
11:22it doesn't seem to be here yet. What I'm
11:24suggesting is don't dismiss it.
11:27Speak into that reality as if it were
11:30here today because it is. Feed that
11:32reality
11:33with your words and your energy and
11:35given a short period of time your
11:36current reality will be replaced by that
11:39one. So, speak what you want now from a
11:41place of knowing it already is
11:44and your reality must eventually catch
11:46up to match it. Principle number four,
11:48there is no competition.
11:50Now, this is an amazing concept and it
11:53is important if you want to eliminate
11:54the negative self-talk around comparing
11:56or scarcity or feeling like there's a
11:58limited amount of supply in the world
12:00around things like time or money. What
12:02Florence says
12:04is that someone else's success cannot
12:06take away or diminish yours. One
12:08person's abundance cannot reduce yours.
12:11And this is one of the most
12:12psychologically healthy teachings in the
12:14book because
12:15when you truly believe that you are on
12:18your own divinely guided path
12:21and that any desire that has been put
12:24into your heart comes with the resources
12:27to fulfill on that desire regardless of
12:29what other people's
12:30own individual paths look like
12:33then there's no need for comparison.
12:34There's no need for jealousy. There's no
12:36need for scarcity and you stop asking
12:39like, well, how do I get ahead of those
12:41people?
12:42Or worrying that other people have
12:44things and how it might take away from
12:46what you want and instead you simply
12:49focus on your own path. You know, not
12:51that long ago I used to feel this way.
12:53You know, when I decided I wanted to
12:54start helping people and sharing my
12:56thoughts and perspectives, I started
12:58studying the space and believe it or not
13:00before I really got into this work, I
13:02didn't really know who Tony Robbins was
13:04and a friend of mine said, "Hey, you
13:06should go check check him out, right?
13:08Like you're thinking about becoming a
13:09life coach."
13:10Back when I called myself a life coach.
13:13So, I went to this uh Tony Robbins event
13:16and there were like 10,000 people there
13:18and he was incredibly impressive. I
13:20mean, it was four unbelievable days
13:23and man, what an experience and I
13:25remember comparing myself to that and
13:26going, well, what's the point of me
13:27doing what I'm doing?
13:29Like if that already exists, then that
13:31space is already taken. Like why does
13:33the world need me? They already have a
13:34Tony Robbins, or they already have a Joe
13:36Dispenza, or they already have an
13:37Eckhart Tolle. But I came to realize
13:40that
13:41there are people who need to hear
13:44the perspective that I share.
13:46And there are people who aren't
13:47interested in the perspectives of other
13:49people. Everything is a frequency.
13:50Everything is a resonance. And that
13:52ultimately that meant there's space for
13:53everybody.
13:54And I found that to be true. And that
13:56was one of the beautiful things when I
13:58found Florence's work, I was like, "Ah,
14:00there's that distinction. There is no
14:02competition. If God or your higher power
14:04puts something in your heart, it means
14:06that that's what you're being called to
14:08do. And all of the resources that are
14:10necessary come along with it, regardless
14:12of what you see out there." And it also
14:14gives you an opportunity to live in more
14:16gratitude. I'm grateful for the work
14:18that other teachers do. I'm grateful for
14:21how many people have been called into
14:22personal growth by a lot of the people
14:25who have paved the way over the last 20,
14:2730, 40 years for the work that I now get
14:30to share in the world, and the
14:31opportunity for us to be here together.
14:33Again, the truth is that there's enough
14:34for everyone. And as you stop speaking
14:37unintelligently over yourself,
14:40that actually allows your path to begin
14:42to unfold and begin to align so that you
14:45can actually close the gap between where
14:47you are and the desire that you have.
14:48Over short period of time, that future
14:50that you envision will become your
14:51present moment. Principle number five,
14:53resistance strengthens what you fight.
14:57Now, this theme appears repeatedly in
14:58Your Word is Your Wand. What Florence
15:01says is attention is the creative force.
15:04And what you focus on expands. You know,
15:06I've shared that one of my mentors once
15:07told me that what you make matter
15:09becomes matter.
15:11Right? What you put your attention on
15:12crystallizes from the fourth dimension
15:14to the third dimension. It becomes
15:16available to the five senses, and it
15:18becomes your reality. And as humans, we
15:20tend to focus on the absence or the lack
15:24or the negative. It's part of the
15:25survival-based mechanism of the human
15:27being operating system. It's kind of a
15:28funny thing. It's like the moment you
15:30get clear that you want something,
15:32you're aware of two things. You're aware
15:34of the thing that you want, but you're
15:35also aware of the absence of it. And
15:37what ends up happening is the mind will
15:39just begin to explain the absence of it.
15:42We talk about the absence of it. And we
15:44start to reinforce beliefs around the
15:46absence of it. And so the absence
15:48remains
15:50because it's given so much attention.
15:51But the key is to starve out, to choke
15:55out the problem, and to give it no
15:57airtime. But you say, you know, hey,
15:59don't I have to solve the problem? Don't
16:00I have to figure out how to actually
16:02create the thing that I want? How to be
16:04How to create more health? How to find
16:05my soulmate? How to, you know, figure
16:08out how to create a successful business
16:09or become financially abundant? And I
16:11would say no, that's not actually your
16:13job. Right? The The problem will solve
16:16itself. The solution will emerge, and
16:18you will be a part of it. But the point
16:21is to stop talking about the problem or
16:24the absence of what you want.
16:26I've shared this story on other
16:28episodes, but back in, you know, 2023
16:30when I launched the podcast, I was
16:33getting about 5,000 listeners a month,
16:34and I was recording a couple of episodes
16:36every single week. And I was probably at
16:38episode 60, episode 70. I wasn't seeing
16:40a lot of growth.
16:42And I was becoming frustrated. I was
16:44paying a lot of attention to the
16:45underperformance of the podcast.
16:48And at about that time my son was born.
16:50And when my son was born, I
16:51All of my attention went to him.
16:54He sort of entered my solar system and
16:55rearranged the entire physics of my
16:57reality.
16:58What was interesting is that after a
16:59short period of time, the podcast took
17:02off. I literally went from 5,000
17:04listeners a month to a million listeners
17:06a month over the period of 1 month.
17:08And a friend of mine said, hey, like,
17:09how did that happen? How did the podcast
17:11explode? And my answer was, I stopped
17:13paying attention to the underperformance
17:15of the podcast.
17:16And so I stopped making that matter.
17:19And the byproduct of that was actually
17:21what I wanted. So, stop making your
17:24problems matter, right? Stop bringing
17:26resistance to your current reality,
17:30and stop speaking about them. Because
17:31speaking about them only strengthens
17:33them. So, what's the takeaway from all
17:36of this? I don't think Florence Scovel
17:37Shinn was giving us a manifestation
17:39technique. I think she was actually
17:41giving us an identity practice. Because
17:43every word that you speak is either
17:45reinforcing the person that you've been
17:46or rehearsing the person that you're
17:47becoming. Every complaint strengthens
17:50old neural pathways. Every declaration
17:52of possibility strengthens new ones. And
17:54every day you're teaching your
17:55subconscious who you are. And over time
17:57your subconscious organizes your
17:59emotions, your behaviors, your
18:01decisions, your relationships, your
18:02frequency,
18:04and ultimately that creates your life.
18:06So, maybe your word really is your wand.
18:10Not necessarily because you're magically
18:12controlling the universe, but because
18:13you're continually shaping the
18:15consciousness that creates
18:17reality itself. Right? So, this week
18:20here's my challenge for you. Become a
18:21guardian of your portal.
18:23Watch what comes in and out of your
18:24mouth. Remember your mouth is the portal
18:26between your inner world and the world
18:28that you're creating. So, before you
18:29speak ask yourself a simple question. Is
18:31what I'm about to say
18:32strengthening the person that I'm
18:34becoming or the person I'm trying to
18:35leave behind?
18:37And if it isn't aligned,
18:38don't say it. Close the portal. Because
18:40every word you refuse to speak weakens
18:42an old identity and every word that you
18:44intentionally choose plants new seeds.
18:46And enough new seeds becomes a new you
18:49and a new you becomes a new life. So, I
18:51hope you enjoyed this as much as I
18:52enjoyed sharing it with you. If you want
18:54help identifying a couple of core
18:55limiting beliefs that you're probably
18:56speaking on a regular basis, I've got an
18:58amazing free tool for you. All you have
19:00to do is check it out in the description

19:08process, identify a couple of your
19:10biggest limiting beliefs, and it's going
19:11to give you an amazing tool, my decision
19:13matrix process, to help you transform
19:15them and really be present over the next
19:17couple of days, the next couple of
19:18weeks, to the words that you are
19:19speaking. Again, if you haven't checked
19:20that out, you can find the link in the
