0:05i want to set up gravity filtration as one of the technique that is used in general
0:11chemistry and also in organic chemistry but for setting up the gravity filtration
0:19we are going to use small ironing to attach to ring the stand this is a support
0:27for a glass funnel that we are using for our for the filtration now to prepare the
0:36filter paper i take one large filter paper i fold the filter paper in half
0:45fold it in half again for second time side fold it in half first i fold it in half again
0:53second time then i open it one part to one side three parts to the other side what i
1:02don't want to happen like if someone to fold is like this and it's going to make a hole
1:08like this crystals or precipitate is going to pass through so what you need to do after you
1:15fold it twice one part in one side three parts on the other side you basically made a paper funnel
1:22you place it in the class in the glass funnel see it's not staying still and in order for this to
1:29stay still i'm going to add few drops of water when i add some water to the filter paper the
1:40filter paper is going to stay still gravity filtration is different from decanting decanting
1:47the the method for for is another technique which we will talk about in different experiments but
1:54here we are doing filtration so we want to separate the solid from the liquid we want
1:59the solid to go on the filter paper and the liquid would pass through the filter paper
2:04so I am going to pour the mixture through the filter paper and because i want to transfer both
2:12of them through the to the filter paper i can mix it so to make sure that everything would go
2:18otherwise the solid piece especially in this case that we have sand for this part of the experiment
2:25with sand and copper sulfate the sand is heavy and it's going to stay in the beaker so we are mixing
2:32it agitate mix and then add to the filter paper store it well and add and if you have leftover
2:44in the beaker leftover of solid in the beaker keep adding the solvent that you were using
2:52and pass it through the filter paper to make sure that everything is going to be
2:57transferred to filter paper now with this we have separated the
3:04solid from the liquid the liquid portion now is in the beaker we have a solution of copper sulfate
3:12is a blue color solution in the copper in the beaker and the span is on the filter paper now if
3:20you were going to recover this major mass or the procedure asked for further steps you can take it
3:29out of the filter paper take the filter paper out of the funnel place it and watch glass let it air
3:37dry then you have dry sand for this liquid it can be evaporated and then you end up with the copper
3:45sulfate because that's the separation technique or physical means for separation techniques
