0:00so I mentioned absorption of nutrients
0:02and how it occurs within the small
0:04intestines and then the uh the nutrients
0:07then make their way into the large
0:09intestines still for absorption and what
0:11our body cannot use then distributes is
0:14waste so nutrients are necessary food
0:18substances and they're categorized here
0:21starting with your carbs then your
0:24proteins your fats we have good fats and
0:27we have bad fats so healthy fats and
0:30then bad fats you have your vitamins
0:32your minerals and your water
0:34let's look at these a little bit closer
0:37as far as your carbs go along with
0:40proteins and fats carbohydrates are one
0:43of the three main nutrients found in
0:45foods and drinks carbs are necessary in
0:48your diet and again everything that we
0:51take in is really supposed to be uh to
0:54have a purpose of providing our body
0:56with nutrition so with carbohydrates
0:59it's another classic case of something
1:01that we want to absorb in moderation
1:04uh with carbohydrates the body breaks
1:07down an excessive amount of carbs in the
1:10body it breaks it down into sugar and
1:12that Sugar uh is a source of energy
1:15however the body can only utilize so
1:18much and so an over consumption of
1:21carbohydrates uh is going to be an over
1:23consumption of what the body can utilize
1:25and then it finds these nice wonderful
1:27places to store itself amongst your body
1:30that become what we know is fat moving
1:33down you have lipids
1:35and lipids fall into three categories
1:37you have fats cholesterol and
1:40triglycerides
1:42fats are necessary in your diet however
1:44we do want healthy fats and healthy fats
1:48are a function they function as energy
1:50for our body
1:52serve as a structural component of our
1:54cell membranes so going all the way back
1:57to cell structure and how organs build
2:00into systems uh in in the process of
2:03building those tissues that make those
2:04organs it is the structure of the cell
2:07membrane that is uh that is supported by
2:11the amount of healthy fats that we take
2:13in so healthy fats are actually a good
2:16thing for our cell membranes and the
2:18development of cells proteins proteins
2:21are required for the structure function
2:24and regulation of body's tissue and
2:26organs and they are essential for what's
2:29called tissue repair most of us you go
2:32to the gym you work really hard you tear
2:34your muscle down to the point where
2:36you're uncomfortably in pain and then
2:39you're supposed to let your body do a
2:41rest day during that rest day with a
2:43proper amount of protein what happens is
2:46you've broken down that tissue so then
2:48your body can build it back up so a
2:51healthy amount of protein builds up nice
2:53healthy tissue I.E going to help build
2:56healthy strong bones and muscles as well
3:00leads us to the next term which is
3:02vitamins
3:03and vitamins come in two components you
3:06have fat soluble and water soluble and
3:08with our vitamins they are needed for a
3:11normal growth and development it is
3:13recommended that we take a multivitamin
3:16just to help supplement with what we're
3:18not getting in our daily diet
3:20and the nice thing about vitamins is
3:22that you can't have too much so what
3:25your body takes in it's going to absorb
3:27uh whatever it doesn't need whatever
3:29isn't necessary it will discard up as
3:32waste last one there at the bottom is
3:34minerals
3:36minerals have many purposes needed for
3:39keeping bones muscles heart and the
3:42brain working properly and minerals are
3:45found mostly in our bones and in our
3:47teeth the strength of our teeth the
3:49strength of our strength of our bones
3:51has to do with the mineral intake
