0:00now in relationship to our two numbers

0:02systolic and diastolic the contraction

0:05and the relaxation of the heart what

0:08we're seeing there is the patient's

0:10blood pressure now with blood pressure

0:12the force uh this is forced blood that

0:15exerts on the inner walls of the blood

0:17vessels

0:19and there are factors that can cause it

0:21to be elevated or to be below our normal

0:25range

0:26normally what we see is the number is

0:28going to be highest in the arteries

0:31lowest in the veins as far as the

0:33pressure

0:34and this is the rise in the fall of the

0:36ventricles as they contract and relax

0:38that one cardiac cycle

0:41and again remember we have factors that

0:43can change uh can Elevate or lower one's

0:47blood pressure here's your systolic in

0:49your diastolic and systolic ventricles

0:52contract diastolic ventricles relax so

0:56again High number and systolic usually

0:59120 is where we'd like to see our

1:01patients in a normal range 120 over 80

1:0580 being our diastolic or our lower

1:07number where we'd like to see our

1:10patients in range so 120 over 80 would

1:12be typical if you have a patient that

1:15has high blood pressure you can also

1:17expect to see a higher pulse so factors

1:21that can affect blood pressure you have

1:23the cardiac output how fast and how

1:25strong the art beats we want to have a

1:28nice strong cardiac output but we don't

1:31want our heart to overwork so if it is

1:34enlarged if it does have blockage if it

1:37does have damage that blood volume still

1:40needs to make its way through and so

1:42what you're going to see is a higher

1:44level of cardiac output because the

1:47heart still has a job to do and it's not

1:50going to let anything get in its way but

1:53when we do obtain a patient's blood

1:55pressure we're definitely going to see

1:57those higher numbers two terms

1:59vasoconstriction and vasodilation has to

2:02do with what's called blood viscosity

2:04the thickness of the blood if one's

2:07blood is very thick that could also

2:09cause the heart to have to work harder

2:11to be able to do its job to get that

2:14blood through those valves
