0:00now in the early days of Russia's
0:03full-scale invasion of Ukraine many
0:05observers were surprised at how poorly
0:08the Russian Army's electronic warfare
0:10units performed but now nearly 18 months
0:13later they're causing significant
0:15problems for Ukraine's counter-offensive
0:17disrupting even the most sophisticated
0:19weapons its forces have received from
0:21NATO countries the BBC's Abdul Jalil
0:24Abdu rahasulov has more details
0:30their battles are invisible but the
0:33danger they face is real this is a
0:36Ukrainian electronic intelligence unit
0:39their job is not to fight with guns but
0:42to monitor emissions signals used by
0:45drones air defense systems multiple
0:48rocket launchers and other weapons
0:51we can't show their faces for security
0:53reasons the team leader with the call
0:56sign Alan says that Russian forces
0:58constantly hunt down units like his
1:01their mission is part of a hidden
1:04confrontation called electronic warfare
1:07but how does it work
1:09almost every modern weapon uses radio
1:11waves microwaves infrared or other
1:13signals to send or receive data and
1:16electronic warfare uses this
1:18vulnerability in order to disrupt
1:20enemies Communications gather
1:22intelligence and identify targets and
1:25for the first time since World War II
1:26we're witnessing a conflict where both
1:28sides are heavily relying on the
1:30electronic warfare systems as part of
1:33their military strategy
1:35drones have become a key feature in this
1:37war but this is what happens when they
1:40are jammed by electronic warfare systems
1:43it's not just drones that can be
1:45affected
1:46most sophisticated arms Ukraine has
1:49received from NATO countries use a GPS
1:51link for navigation so when Russia jams
1:55this signal even high Precision weapons
1:57including high mass rocket artillery can
2:00miss their target
2:02that is why both Russia and Ukraine keep
2:05their electronic warfare or ew
2:08capabilities in secret this war
2:11represents us a new and very effective
2:15abilities of uh drones Raiders
2:20Communications and all of this system
2:23could be affected with ew means if we
2:28destroy Russian Jammers we improve
2:31capabilities on our troops in detection
2:34and ability to have a precise strikes
2:40here Ukrainian Special Forces have
2:42spotted bullet 21 a Russian system that
2:46jams GPS signals
2:48Ukrainian artillery put it out of action
2:51but Russia is on a hunt for Ukrainian
2:53electronic warfare units too
2:55[Applause]

2:58Alliance Group comes Under Fire he
3:01thinks that Russian truths may have
3:03discovered their antenna and now are
3:05looking for their days
3:09Alan tells everyone to use single rounds
3:12in order to last till the morning
3:14he decides to change their location
3:16because the position is compromised
3:20the key in electronic warfare is being
3:22invisible to your enemy abduction
