0:00hey everybody welcome to this b2 English
0:02listening practice video you can use
0:04this video to train your listening and
0:06comprehension as I speak you ready so
0:09today I'm gonna talk to you about living
0:11abroad I was an expat for a few years so
0:14I can offer a pretty good amount of
0:15insight into this topic let's start
0:17first with the good things living abroad
0:19opens up a whole world of new
0:21experiences ideas and cultures that you
0:24never would have dreamed of if you
0:25hadn't moved abroad the second you step
0:27off the plane and realize that you're
0:29not just on vacation you're in your new
0:31home it can hit you like a truck
0:33regardless of how much planning you've
0:35done and regardless of how much desire
0:37you have to live in that new country the
0:39reality of it all will strike fear in
0:41you but this fear is actually a good
0:43fear it's like an exciting fear you've
0:45probably heard the expression to have
0:47butterflies in your stomach well the
0:50experience of arriving in your new
0:51country and knowing that you're gonna
0:53set up your life there will definitely
0:55give you a serious case of the
0:56butterflies it's more like giant moths
0:58but like I said I consider that a
1:01positive another good thing is that
1:03hopefully you'll get to learn a new
1:04language ideally you'd already have a
1:07decent level in the country's language
1:08and so being in that country and
1:11surrounded by native speakers would be a
1:12great way to improve but as you can
1:15probably imagine not everyone gets the
1:17same pleasure out of speaking a foreign
1:18language as I do or other language
1:20learners do so this might be a negative
1:22for some people and I personally know
1:25people that have been living in a
1:26foreign country for four five six years
1:29and they can barely put a sentence
1:30together so my advice to those moving
1:33abroad would be to study the language as
1:34much as possible before you go because
1:37if you arrive in your new country
1:38without knowing any of the language
1:40you're not just gonna pick it up it
1:43doesn't work like that all the talking
1:45you hear around you is just gonna be
1:46like static noise in the background it
1:49won't make any sense to you and it won't
1:50help you learn you need to study and get
1:53to the level where you can actually
1:54understand the message of what people
1:56are saying and then you can go out into
1:58the real world and pick it up and then
2:00you can have fun speaking that language
2:02in your new country all right so the
2:04biggest negative about living abroad is
2:06obviously being far away from your loved
2:08ones this one's a no-brainer it's not
2:10easy to live far from your family
2:12friends it's one thing to move across
2:14the country but moving to a completely
2:16different country is a whole nother
2:17level of difficulty mainly because it's
2:20harder to visit each other I know it's
2:22not the same as being with them in
2:23person but it does help to video chat or
2:26even just call your family what do you
2:28think about it it's not that different
2:29than talking to them face-to-face except
2:31for the fact that you can't touch them
2:33see yeah that's the hardest part for
2:35sure and the other negative thing is
2:37that there are always gonna be certain
2:38things about the new country or culture
2:40that you don't like in my experience I
2:43was able to adapt to my new country
2:44pretty well but there were some things
2:46that I just couldn't get used to things
2:48like the low-quality infrastructure the
2:50lack of punctuality and some other minor
2:52things you should definitely try to
2:54adapt as much as possible on your new
2:56country but there will be some things
2:58that are just too different or that are
3:00contrary to your personality
3:02that's the reality of living abroad ok
3:04so that's all for today leave a comment
3:07and let me know if you ever lived abroad
3:08before or if you'd like to live abroad
3:10I'll see you next video
