0:00there are times when the immune system

0:03does have a disorder and that disorder

0:07is when an individual is exposed to

0:09something where their body has an

0:11allergic response the term for that

0:14would be anaphylaxis and anaphylaxis

0:17does require immediate attention

0:20typically it falls under the category of

0:23bee stings food allergies shellfish

0:26allergies allergic reaction to

0:28medication or latex and with this the

0:32individuals usually know that they have

0:34that possibility of anaphylaxis if they

0:38do come in contact with these things so

0:40they may have what's called an EpiPen or

0:43an epinephrine pen that they keep with

0:46them that will help reverse that

0:49response that their body is having to an

0:51allergen so you can see here in this

0:54diagram the life-threatening allergic

0:56response and some of the things that

0:58fall under the category for that that

1:00would be the wheezing or difficulty with

1:02breathing or getting air in possibly

1:05experiencing hives the heart rate would

1:08definitely increase abdominal pain or

1:11vomiting headache confusion loss of

1:15consciousness all could fall under the

1:17characteristics of anaphylaxis and again

1:20requires immediate attention and usually

1:24these individuals do have their

1:27treatment with them at all times here

1:29you have the autoimmune disease and

1:32autoimmune diseases are different

1:35diseases that fall under the category of

1:38when the body becomes unfortunately

1:41confused with its own cells and its

1:44system and it starts to attack its own

1:47self and so some of the diseases that

1:50fall under those categories would be

1:51Graves disease lupus multiple sclerosis

1:55rheumatoid arthritis uh diabetes Juliana

2:00bar syndrome all fall under that

2:02autoimmune disease uh and so normally

2:05the body does have the ability to be

2:08able to tell the difference between

2:09something that is normal and something

2:12that should not be within the body with

2:15autoimmune disorders again they become

2:18the system becomes mistaken with what is

2:21normal and what isn't and it starts to

2:24fight off cells that were really

2:26essentially healthy cells it fights them

2:28off uh so again these are some of the

2:31diagnosis that can fall underneath this

2:34disorder and the symptoms will vary

2:36depending on the severity of the disease

2:40for each patient in our immune system

2:42terms we have the term immunocompetent

2:46now with immunocompetent immunocompetent

2:49refers to an individual that has a

2:52normal functioning immune system

2:55immunodeficient immunosuppressed

2:58immunocompromised this is referring to

3:00an individual that has a less than

3:03normal immune system they have a

3:06compromised immune system

3:08that compromised immune system can lead

3:11to the next term which is called

3:12opportunistic infections and

3:15opportunistic infections are infections

3:17that generally someone with a healthy

3:20normal immunity would not be that big of

3:22a deal maybe a cold might be in the bed

3:25for a day or two and then after that

3:27it's business as usual for someone that

3:30has a compromised immune system those

3:33opportunistic infections can tend to

3:35lead to bigger problems for them because

3:38their immune system is already fighting

3:40uh things that aren't necessarily normal

3:43for others
