0:00some diseases and disorders that are

0:02associated with the blood would be

0:05anemia which I mentioned before Amia

0:08meaning blood a meaning absent or

0:10without so this would be someone who has

0:13that decreased number of red blood cells

0:17going down you have leukemia leukemia is

0:20something that originates within the

0:22bone marrow and it's when an individual

0:24has an abnormal amount a large abnormal

0:28amount of white blood cells now remember

0:31I said that white blood cells are

0:33leukocytes aren't typically hanging

0:35around unless there's a reason to so an

0:38elevated amount in this case an

0:39extremely large amount could indicate

0:42leukemia or cancer

0:45sickle cell anemia sickle cell anemia is

0:48genetic uh it it is inherited and it

0:52tends to be more on the dominant gene uh

0:55with this remember when we started out

0:58our lesson we looked at the red blood

1:00cells and the shape so we know that red

1:02blood cells are round but they are

1:04slightly concaved in the Middle where

1:06they have a dip uh that dip that's in

1:09the middle of the red blood cell AIDS in

1:11the red blood cell being able to

1:13transport itself throughout the

1:15circulatory system and so with sickle

1:18cell anemia uh what happens is

1:20individuals have what's called a crisis

1:22and when that crisis occurs that cell

1:25that red blood cells it folds and as it

1:30folds or creases it does not have the

1:33ability to transport itself through the

1:35circulatory system and so the cells tend

1:38to pile up one on top of the other

1:40causes blockage within the circulatory

1:43system which leads to extreme pain lack

1:46of oxygen and canned oftentimes if

1:50sickle cell goes untreated could lead to

1:52death

1:53uh for some reason don't know why it is

1:57linked to individuals with darker skin

1:59tones and also more specifically uh

2:02those that are within the

2:03African-American descent

2:05polycystemia Vera uh this is a disease

2:08of the bone marrow again another one

2:11that's going to result in a high number

2:13of cells but here uh it's not white

2:17blood cells it's red blood cells so with

2:20the elevated amount of red blood cells

2:22this will place a patient at risk for

2:25clotting blood is thicker red blood

2:27cells are going to be more compact could

2:30lead to blood clots and then the very

2:33last disease and disorder that we'll

2:35cover today is called Talus isthemia

2:37this is also inherited and this is of

2:40course it's it falls under the umbrella

2:42of anemia

2:44as a defective hemoglobin chain causes

2:46small pale and short-lived rbcs I

2:51remember a red blood cell has the

2:53capability to sustain and restore itself

2:55every 120 days so someone with Talus

2:58ischemia would probably have to have

3:01blood transfusions because their cells

3:04their red blood cells have a shorter

3:06lifespan
