0:18today

0:19i'm going to talk about immigration this

0:21is a really relevant topic for today

0:23because as the world becomes more

0:25globalized

0:26immigration becomes more common nowadays

0:29more and more people

0:30are considering immigrating abroad for

0:32different reasons

0:34some people leave the country looking

0:35for a better job some people are looking

0:38for a safer environment

0:39and some simply want a change of scenery

0:42all in all there are a plethora of

0:43reasons one might choose to immigrate

0:46i personally have lived abroad for

0:48almost four years and so

0:50i too have had a lot of experience with

0:52immigration

0:53so let's talk about the pros of

0:55immigrating to another country

0:56and then we'll talk about the cons as

0:58well so the first positive that comes to

1:01mind

1:01is the cultural experience forcing

1:03yourself out of your comfort zone can

1:05always bring benefits

1:06regardless of how difficult it is for

1:08you before i moved abroad i

1:10still hadn't broken out of my shell so

1:12to say but once i started my life in a

1:15foreign country

1:16my horizons expanded i made new friends

1:19i tried new activities and i spoke a new

1:21language

1:22granted it's not easy to make all these

1:24changes but it's such a great learning

1:26experience

1:27you discover all kinds of new things

1:29along the way especially about yourself

1:32you realize what things about your life

1:34you really value

1:35and what things you're willing to change

1:38okay another positive about immigrating

1:40to a new country

1:41is that it can sometimes provide you

1:43with more career opportunities

1:45i've had tons of students who moved

1:46abroad because they have the opportunity

1:48to grow in their career

1:50and earn more money to support their

1:51family in some countries

1:53salaries are low or the currency isn't

1:56strong

1:56and so it might make sense economically

1:58for people to move somewhere else

2:00one last positive thing about

2:02immigrating is that it gives you a

2:03chance to learn a new language

2:05when you're forced to speak a foreign

2:07language to do all the things that you

2:08need to do

2:09you learn a lot faster it's definitely

2:12stressful but it could be that last

2:13piece of the puzzle that you need in

2:15order to master a language

2:17for example my spanish improved a ton

2:19after i moved to mexico

2:21alright now let's talk about some cons

2:23of moving abroad

2:24the absolute worst thing about

2:26immigrating is that you're probably

2:28leaving loved ones behind

2:29no matter how exciting it is for you to

2:31live in your new country

2:33you can't help but miss your family and

2:35friends back home

2:36sure you can call them or video chat

2:38with them but it's no substitute for

2:40actually being with them in the flesh

2:42it might get easier over time but you'll

2:44never stop missing your loved ones

2:47another negative about moving abroad is

2:49culture shock

2:50i already talked about the positives

2:52that can come from exposing yourself to

2:54another culture

2:55but sometimes it's not that great

2:57regardless of how interested you are in

2:59a foreign culture

3:00you'll never adopt 100 of their values

3:03and norms

3:04heck we don't even agree with a hundred

3:06percent of our own culture's values

3:08culture shock is inevitable when you

3:10move abroad because you have so many

3:12opportunities for misunderstandings

3:14miscommunications and exposure to

3:16foreign ideas i've experienced my share

3:19of culture shock throughout my time

3:20abroad

3:21it's something that you simply have to

3:23expect when you put yourself in this

3:25sort of situation

3:26one last negative about immigrating is

3:29that you might lose your sense of where

3:31home is

3:32after you spend a significant time

3:34abroad you might start to realize that

3:36you don't really know where you consider

3:38your home to be

3:39of course if you just spend a year

3:41abroad you'll probably come back home

3:43afterwards and adapt without issue

3:46but if you live abroad for multiple

3:48years you might find that when you

3:50return back to your home country

3:52you experience reverse culture shock the

3:55things that used to be normal for you

3:57are now foreign weird huh okay now i'm

4:00going to ask you

4:01three questions about today's video to

4:03check your comprehension

4:05write your answers in a comment down

4:06below number one

4:11two

4:12what do i consider the worst thing about

4:14moving abroad

4:15and number three what might happen to

4:18you if you return home

4:19after having lived abroad for many years
