0:00hi there welcome back to the playlist or
0:02welcome to the playlist if you're just
0:04joining we're going to finish off the
0:06playlist on LinkedIn by looking at how
0:08you can use it to search for jobs
0:10LinkedIn has a built-in job search
0:13function that more and more companies
0:14more and more organizations are using to
0:17advertise their jobs so it can be quite
0:18useful to add it to your rotation of
0:21things that you're checking for jobs
0:23when you're looking for roles now like I
0:25said in the last video it can be useful
0:28to look at alumni from Manchester who
0:31studied your course to see where they
0:34actually ended up that can give you a
0:36sense of what type of job the gra kind
0:39of graduate you are might go for doesn't
0:42mean that you have to go for this by any
0:44means but it can give you some ideas if
0:48you are struggling to figure out what it
0:50is you want to pursue now LinkedIn and
0:53the job search function does require you
0:55to have a little bit of an idea what
0:57you're interested in what kind of job
0:58title you're actually going to pursue if
1:01you're not sure about this we'd advise
1:03first going through the witch career
1:05Pages this can help you research a few
1:07different things give you some ideas but
1:09also booking a careers appointment you
1:12can do that by going to our website
1:14going on Career Connect booking an
1:16appointment with us we are more than
1:17happy to chat through what your options
1:20are what you're thinking about at the
1:22moment to help clarify your ideas so
1:25that you can do this so that you can
1:27figure out what you want to apply to and
1:29then pursue it whether it's through
1:30Linkedin or any other job website now
1:33using the job search feature it's very
1:35much like any other it can suggest roles
1:38that it thinks are directly match to
1:40what you've already entered into on your
1:41profile but you can also search by job
1:44title by job family all the other things
1:47that you might think about in an
1:50ordinary job website or job board if
1:53this is something you're a bit not sure
1:56about we do have a playlist that's
1:58completely dedicated to job hunting and
2:00I'd advise having a look at that because
2:02all of the strategies and all the tips
2:05that we share in that playlist are just
2:08as valid for LinkedIn and the job search
2:10feature here as you'll see on the screen
2:13gives you an idea of what the job
2:14actually is usually this is copy and
2:16pasted straight from the employers own
2:19website and you'll have a link to apply
2:21to that role on the page key thing to
2:25remember linkedin's job search feature
2:28it's very useful like any other job
2:30search however it's not something to
2:33rely on you need to be doing a little
2:35bit of lots of different things so yes
2:38absolutely use linkedin's job search can
2:41be really helpful thing to remember use
2:44other ones as well do a little bit of
2:46networking use this as one part of an
2:49overall strategy and like I said if
2:52that's something you're not particularly
2:53sure about go to the job hunting
2:56playlist on YouTube on our Channel it
2:59really helps helpful and goes into a lot
3:01of how to use these job search tools
3:05really effectively and to round off
3:07there are a few other things that it can
3:10be really helpful to keep in mind when
3:11you are using LinkedIn and the first one
3:14is actually use Google in conert with
3:17LinkedIn use it at the same time Google
3:21is that little bit more powerful than
3:23the LinkedIn search function and often
3:26it can bypass some restrictions so for
3:28example you can connect with people may
3:30be easier through clicking a link on to
3:32a profile through Google than through
3:34Linkedin so if you're struggling to find
3:36something or you just want a little bit
3:38more of a powerful or more user friendly
3:41way of searching LinkedIn use Google
3:43first Google whatever you are searching
3:46and then put LinkedIn in addition in the
3:48search bar can find up a lot more
3:51results and sometimes more quickly as
3:53well it can also be a good idea on
3:55LinkedIn to follow companies and
3:57organizations once you've got a sensor
3:59of what it is you want to do the kind of
4:02job or even the kind of employee you're
4:04interested in you can follow them and
4:06they will post updates one of which can
4:09be when they have roles available when
4:10their graduate schemes open those kinds
4:12of things so it can be really worthwhile
4:16to follow the organizations and
4:18companies that you're particularly keen
4:20on working for or working with similarly
4:23you can follow hashtags so you can
4:26follow specific things that you know
4:28you're interested in in a professional
4:30setting that you know you would be
4:32interested in seeing what's going on on
4:34the screen we've got an example if
4:35you're interested in working
4:37sustainability you might want to follow
4:39that particular term for whenever it's
4:40mentioned maybe if roles are mentioned
4:43that are being recruited for ETC it's
4:46also a good idea on LinkedIn to join
4:48some groups of like-minded people so
4:50people in a particular industry that
4:52you're pursuing or interest group
4:55whatever it might be these things are
4:58easy ways of getting involved D in
5:00LinkedIn without having to think really
5:03carefully about what you're posting what
5:05you're putting on there that is a way to
5:07do it this is a more lowkey maybe easier
5:10way to do it and then the last few tips
5:13that I want to share first of all it's a
5:15professional platform you have to think
5:17quite carefully about what you post on
5:20there so you're not wanting to share
5:22loads of things about your personal life
5:24you might not even want to be that
5:26active it is completely up to you what
5:29you post on that and you are not
5:31expected to constantly post you can if
5:33you want but that's not really
5:37requirement all you really need to do is
5:39log on semi regularly like post maybe
5:42read a bit on there and follow some
5:45organizations it is a way to be active
5:47and visible that is one way people use
5:50it but a lot of the power is in the
5:52research and the networking if that's
5:55all you used it for that would be
5:57absolutely fine as well which brings me
5:59finally to what the career service at
6:01Manchester can do to help which is quite
6:03a lot if you need some help with your

6:49other stuff that I've talked about
6:51figuring out what it is you want to do
6:53so you can make use of LinkedIn and
6:55other websites to kind of find those
6:58particular roles that you're interested
