0:00train your cat to use the toilet

0:02step-by-step guide

0:04imagine a world where your cat politely

0:06pees into a toilet a world where you

0:09don't have to scoop litter twice a day

0:11no more cluttering your living room with

0:13a clunky litter box it almost sounds

0:16like a dream right sure a toilet trained

0:18kitty might seem like something you

0:20could only dream of but the reality is

0:23you really can teach your cat to use the

0:25potty and it's not as hard as you think

0:28toilet training for cats became common

0:30in the early 2010s when products like

0:33litter quitter hit the markets promising

0:36that your cat will be toilet trained

0:37within a matter of six weeks joe lapid

0:40created the litter quitter after she

0:43grew tired of cleaning up her cat's

0:45litter the potty training system is so

0:48effective that lapage claims it takes

0:50less time to toilet train a cat than a

0:52child so you can say goodbye to that

0:55smelly kitty litter box forever and make

0:57your life a lot easier but for those of

1:00you who are clueless about how it all

1:02works curious if it could even work for

1:05your cat here's a foolproof step-by-step

1:08process to get your cat raining on the

1:10porcelain throne

1:12number one designate a bathroom for your

1:15cat if you've decided to teach your cat

1:17how to use the toilet you must assign a

1:19bathroom where the kitty can take care

1:21of its business

1:23this is very important since cats are

1:25very cautious animals and they

1:27absolutely refuse to use the toilet

1:29unless they feel safe and calm choose a

1:32bathroom in your home that your cats has

1:34the easiest access to where no one else

1:36will interrupt it move the cat's litter

1:39box into the bathroom and place it near

1:41the toilet keep the lid up and seat down

1:44at all times and watch the magic happen

1:48number two gather the supplies to toilet

1:51train your cat you're gonna need some

1:53pretty serious supplies your cat will be

1:56transitioning from its regular litter

1:57box to a training seat and eventually to

2:00the toilet there are two routes you can

2:03take here you can either take the easy

2:05road and buy a cat toilet training kit

2:07like the litter quitter or the city

2:09kitty cat toilet training kit the other

2:12option is to create a training tray

2:14yourself you will need duct tape a

2:16plastic liner or kitchen plastic wrap

2:18and an aluminum roasting pan of an

2:21appropriate size if you're brave enough

2:23to create your own training tray the

2:25process is fairly simple and here's a

2:28pro tip you should ideally know how to

2:30create a training tray before

2:32transitioning from the litter box to the

2:34toilet to create the training tray

2:37simply place the aluminum roasting pan

2:39over the toilet's rim secure in place

2:41with duct tape if the tray is not big

2:44enough to fully encompass the toilet

2:46bowl fill any gaps with plastic wrap

2:49okay now that you've done that it's time

2:51to actually start training your cat make

2:54sure to not pressure your cat into

2:56sitting on the toilet let the kitty move

2:58at its own pace and keep encouraging it

3:01with positive affirmations and cat

3:03treats number three raise the litter box

3:06to the toilet gradually in order to help

3:09your cat transition from its litter box

3:11to the toilet you need to raise the

3:13litter box up to the toilet seat in

3:15small increments each week eventually

3:18your cat will learn to jump onto the

3:21toilet seat when it has to make room for

3:23lunch it's actually just going to turn

3:25into a fun game you can use stacks of

3:28newspaper cardboard or old magazines to

3:30raise the litter box by three inches

3:32each day until it's on the level of the

3:34toilet seat

3:36once the litter box is on the level with

3:38the toilet seat and you're sure your cat

3:40will jump up to the toilet it's time for

3:43the fourth step

3:44number four place the litter box on top

3:47of the toilet seat now it's time for big

3:50changes place the litter box on top of

3:52the toilet seat leave it there for a few

3:54days

3:56this is about how long it will take for

3:58your cat to be comfortable eliminating

4:00on the toilet remember to keep

4:02encouraging your cat by rewarding it

4:04this will motivate your cat to keep

4:06moving on to the next steps number five

4:09replace the litter box with a training

4:11seat once your cat is comfortable with

4:13using the litter box without any

4:15accidents it's time to bring out your

4:18training seat secure the training seat

4:20onto the toilet and fill it with

4:22flushable litter so you don't have to

4:24scoop cat poop and litter out of your

4:26toilet if you're using a potty training

4:28set use the smallest training pan or the

4:31training pan with no hole in it if

4:33you're using an aluminum tray simply put

4:36the tray in place and fill it with

4:38flushable litter do not cut any holes

4:41into the tray yet number six gradually

4:44increase the size of the hole give your

4:46cat a few days to get used to defecating

4:48in the first training tray once it does

4:51so confidently and accident free it's

4:54time to start making the transition

4:56if you're using a training set gradually

4:59transition into seats with bigger holes

5:01training seats will have small holes in

5:03them that get larger as your cat moves

5:06through its training if you're using an

5:08aluminum training pan use a screwdriver

5:10or a cutter to cut a hole in the bottom

5:13of the pan make the hole slightly bigger

5:15gradually as your cat gets comfortable

5:18also keep decreasing the amount of

5:20litter you're using as well each time

5:22your cat uses the pan replace the litter

5:24with a slightly smaller amount than

5:27before number seven remove training seat

5:30once your cat is comfortable with the

5:32larger holes it's time to remove the

5:34training seat completely

5:37by this time your cat should be

5:39comfortable doing its business straight

5:41into the toilet some smart kitties may

5:43even learn how to flush but don't forget

5:46that they sometimes enjoy it a little

5:48too much so remember to keep an eye out

5:50for your cat so it doesn't go around

5:52wasting too much water
