0:07if you look at a map of Europe you will

0:11notice that apart from the big landmass

0:14known asked of the continent there are

0:17two small islands to the west these are

0:20called the British Isles and they are a

0:23very complex mass of regions countries

0:26and peoples we will start off with the

0:30easy part the biggest island of the two

0:33is called Great Britain since it's the

0:36biggest of the British Isles

0:41the smaller one is Ireland also known as

0:45the Emerald Isle since it's famous for

0:47its green fields in nature

0:53on these two islands there are five

0:56different regions all with their own

0:59very specific history and culture in

1:03Great Britain

1:03you have England with its capital London

1:08Wales with its capital Cardiff

1:12and Scotland with its capital Edinburgh

1:18in Ireland you have northern island in

1:21the north through its capital Belfast

1:24and the largest part the Republic of

1:27Ireland with its capital Dublin this is

1:32where it gets complicated these five

1:35parts form two different countries the

1:39easiest one is the Republic of Ireland

1:42it is part of the European Union so they

1:45pay in Euros the other one is called the

1:50United Kingdom or in full the United

1:55Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern

1:57Ireland it unites England Wales Scotland

2:01and Northern Ireland then is ruled by

2:05Her Majesty the Queen the United Kingdom

2:09was never a full part of the European

2:11Union and as such its people have always

2:15kept using the pound instead of adopting

2:17the euro so a quick recap this is

2:23England but this is Wales this is

2:29Scotland these three regions are on the

2:33island of Great Britain this is Northern

2:38Ireland these four regions together are

2:42the United Kingdom of Great Britain and

2:46Northern Ireland this country is called

2:50the Republic of Ireland both Northern

2:54Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are

2:57on the islands called Ireland these two

3:02islands Ireland and Great Britain form

3:05the British Isles I told you this was

3:11quite a complex matter please don't feel

3:14stupid if you don't understand it all
