0:00A British Airways flight from London to
0:02Chicago made a U-turn to the United
0:04Kingdom. That's just an hour into its
0:08journey. We're talking about flight
0:09BA295,
0:11which declared an emergency after
0:13squawking 7700
0:16and descending to an altitude of 9,000
0:19ft while flying over Ireland. Well, the
0:22flight was cruising at roughly 37,000 ft
0:25when it rapidly descended to about 9,000
0:28ft over Ireland, which is a change of
0:31around 28,000 ft. Now, squawk 7700 is
0:36the internationally recognized
0:38transponder code used by aircraft to
0:41indicate a general emergency. The flight
0:44tracking data showed the aircraft after
0:46making uh the steep descent to around
0:499,000 ft over Ireland and then turned
0:52back towards the UK instead of
0:54continuing its journey to Chicago.
0:56According to Flight Radar 24, the
0:59British Airways was continuing to reduce
1:01fuel weight in preparation for a return
1:04to London. As of now, the nature of the
1:08emergency is not yet clear and we are
1:10still awaiting for a statement from the
1:13airline. Before we go across uh to uh
1:16our correspondent, let's now tell you
1:18what actually happened to flight BA295.
1:22First up, this was of course a London to
1:24Chicago flight and emergency was
1:27declared over Ireland. It descended from
1:3037,000 ft to 9,000 ft. That's a rapid
1:34descent of 28,000.
1:36The flight squad 7700 general emergency
1:41and then midair a turn back to London.
1:44Reason for emergency has not yet been
1:46declared and we're still awaiting for a
1:47statement from the airline. I want to go
1:50across to my colleague Raj call for more
1:53on this. Adita uh we still are waiting
1:55for that statement from the British
1:57Airways airline regarding the emergency
2:00because the reason for it has also not
2:02been declared yet.
2:04>> Well, yes, there was an emergency
2:06actually that was declared by this
2:08particular British Airways which was
2:09traveling from London Heathro to the
2:12O'Hare you know airport in Chicago. uh
2:14but just a couple of hours after it took
2:17off the emergency was declared 770 which
2:19is a general emergency and now we know
2:22for a fact through the British media
2:23that the land flight has landed back
2:25safely in London and this was a normal
2:28emergency due to a pressurization issue
2:30and that is being resolved now on the
2:32ground. that is there. We'll of course
2:34be waiting for the statement from the
2:35airlines, but thanks very much for
2:36sharing those latest updates here with
