0:11>> And uh so I'm pumped. I'm super excited
0:13about a number of things. Uh one quick
0:16thing, uh well, two quick things. One of
0:18which is I'm excited about what we're
0:20getting ready to do. Everybody say
0:21outreach.
0:22>> Outreach.
0:23>> Yeah. We're partnering with our friends
0:24over at the Broward Outreach Center and
0:26we're going to be a part of their
0:27graduation they're having coming up in
0:29August at I'm sorry, October. October
0:32there for the individuals who have been
0:35in the the housing program for that. Uh
0:38and they have been clean for one full
0:41year. No substance. Y'all come on y'all.
0:45Graduated a disciplehip program. Uh many
0:49of them are going on into their own
0:51apartments, own homes, own everything,
0:54got a car, got a job. Y'all ain't saying
0:56nothing.
0:58And so we get to we get to be a part we
1:00get to play a part in that. We getting
1:01to witness that. So if if that is
1:03something that you're interested in,
1:04something you like to be a part of being
1:06the hands and feet of Jesus and whatever

1:31of John, chapter number five. But while
1:33you're doing that, listen, fresh word
1:35has been taken over by prayer. And yeah,
1:38so we've been having fresh word. And
1:40it's really been a house of prayer
1:42because what we've been doing is we've
1:44been coming together and uh we've been
1:47praying for one full one straight hour.
1:49We this this Wednesday particularly
1:52we've been praying we prayed over chairs
1:54and we prayed over each and every person
1:56that's that's here that's connected to
1:58this house and each and every person
1:59that might be here. So if you didn't
2:01know you were coming to church today,
2:02guess what? Wednesday, we were already
2:04praying for you.
2:06>> We were already praying for you. We we
2:08also went and lay hands on every single
2:10prayer request in the belie. Uh so if
2:13you put a prayer request in that believe
2:14wall, we pray for you as well. And uh
2:16we're going to continue to do that and
2:18we're excited to see what God is going
2:19to do in your life. All right,
2:23I'm ready to get into the word. Join me
2:26in the book of John, chapter number
2:28five. The book of John, chapter number
2:30five. And when you have it, would you do

2:38as we stand just out of honor for the
2:39word. And if you don't have it, don't
2:41even trip. We're in the series entitled
2:43Stuck. We in this series entitled Stuck.
2:46And uh the book of John, chapter number
2:48five, uh verse number seven, it says
2:51this, "Sir,"
2:54the invalid replied,
2:56"I have no one to help me get into the
3:00pool
3:02when the water is stirred.
3:06While I'm trying to get in,
3:09someone always goes down ahead of me.
3:12Listen to what he said. The invalid
3:15replied, "Sir, I have no one to help me
3:20to get into the pool. When the water is
3:23stirred now, while I'm trying to get in,
3:29someone else goes down
3:31ahead of me." I want to put a tag on
3:34this text and teach for a few moments
3:35from this topic. On the way down to your
3:37seat, just say, "I'm trying." Just tell
3:39them, "I'm trying." Just just say, "I'm
3:42trying." I'm trying.
3:44>> I'm trying. [laughter]
3:46Well, if you're ready for a word, say,
3:48"Oh yeah."
3:49>> Oh yeah.
3:50>> Well, listen family. While in
3:51preparation for today's conversation, I
3:53came across a psychological term that I
3:55thought would serve us uh for our time
3:57together today. And that concept is
3:59called learned helplessness.
4:03>> It's the idea that when someone
4:05experiences uh repeated situations where
4:07they feel like they have no control,
4:10eventually they can stop behaving. Uh
4:13they can stop believing, I'm sorry,
4:15their actions can actually make a
4:17difference.
4:19They don't necessarily stop because
4:21nothing can change. They stop because
4:23they've learned to believe nothing they
4:26do will change it.
4:29Let the church say learned helplessness.
4:32>> And I'm going to borrow from that from
4:34that particular idea and give give it uh
4:37some language that I think speaks uh
4:39more to our context and here in the
4:41church and I'll call and coin it learned
4:43limitations.
4:46>> Learned limitations is right right here
4:48on the screen. Learn limitations happens
4:50when a limitation of uh when a
4:52limitation you have lived under long
4:54enough becomes an expectation you live
4:57by
4:58>> and an identity you live from
5:01>> and a boundary you stop believing you
5:04can cross.
5:06I want you to see that that that it it's
5:09it's a limitation you have lived under
5:12so long that it becomes an expectation
5:15you live by an identity you live from
5:18and a boundary that you can't that you
5:21stop believing that you can cross I I
5:24said all that to say it it's it's when
5:26you experience something long enough and
5:28eventually you start expecting it.
5:31>> Y'all with me? I It's when you
5:34experience something long enough, after
5:36a while, you start expecting what you've
5:38been experiencing. You expect it long
5:40enough and eventually you watch this.
5:42You you you experience something long
5:44enough and eventually you start
5:46expecting it and then you expect it long
5:48enough and eventually you start
5:50identifying with it. You identify with
5:52it long enough and eventually you stop
5:54challenging it. Right. Right.
5:59>> That's when a limitation becomes
6:02learned.
6:05>> So, just kind of roll with me. I know
6:06it's a lengthy introduction. Let me take
6:08this off so I can see y'all. Look y'all
6:09in the eye. I know this a lengthy
6:11introduction. Um but but sometimes,
6:14watch this. Watch this. Sometimes the
6:17most dangerous limitation isn't the one
6:21around us. Sometimes it's the one that
6:24we've accepted in us.
6:27In essence, what happened TO YOU START
6:29TELLING you what could happen for you.
6:31AND THIS IS WHERE IT gets dangerous
6:34because limitations don't just stop your
6:38movement, IT SUFFOCATES your mind.
6:44>> Let me say that one more time.
6:46Limitations don't just stop your
6:48movement, it suffocates your mind. And
6:51when we live, stay with me, when we live
6:54with this layered, learned limitation,
6:57WATCH THIS, WE BEGIN TO SLIP INTO
7:00SATAN'S MOST SUBTLE YET SECRETIVE AND
7:05EVEN SUCCESSFUL SNARE FOR THE SAINTS.
7:09Let me say that one more time. AND AND
7:12IF WE'RE not careful, WE WILL SLIP into
7:16Satan's most subtle, SECRETIVE, BUT DARE
7:20I EVEN SAY MOST SUCCESSFUL SNARE OF THE
7:24SAINTS. Satan's y'all, are y'all ready
7:28for this?
7:30SATAN'S MOST SUCCESSFUL STRATEGY FOR THE
7:33believer today is not SIMPLY TO CONSPIRE
7:37AGAINST US TO SIN.
7:41IT'S TO CONVINCE US TO SETTLE.
7:44>> THAT'S RIGHT.
7:46>> Come on.
7:48>> BECAUSE, WATCH THIS. BECAUSE SINNING
7:50DOESN'T ALWAYS uh look like sinning.
7:54>> That's right.
7:55>> SOMETIMES SINNING LOOKS LIKE SETTLING.
7:58>> COME ON NOW.
7:59>> I'll make it make sense in a moment.
8:02SINNING DOESN'T ALWAYS LOOK LIKE
8:03SINNING. SOMETIMES sinning looks like
8:06settling.
8:08Um, look at the person next to you and
8:10just tell them, "I'm not settling."
8:12>> Whenever we refuse TO PRACTICE OR PURSUE
8:16WHAT GOD HAS MADE POSSIBLE FOR US, we
8:19are settling.
8:21>> Yeah, that's right. [laughter]
8:23>> It's going to get better. I PROMISE.
8:25SETTLING IS a misalignment BETWEEN WHAT
8:28HE PROMISED and what we practice is or
8:31or EVEN WHAT WE PERCEIVE. IT'S IF IF
8:34JESUS SAID that abundant LIFE IS
8:36AVAILABLE AND I'M SETTLING FOR AIMLESS
8:39LIFE, there's an issue.
8:42>> IF JESUS PROMISED ETERNAL LIFE, I'M NOT
8:45TRADING IT FOREVER FOR A TEMPORARY FIX.
8:49>> IF JESUS CALLED ME TO SERVE, I'M NOT
8:51SETTLING FOR A SELF-CENTERED LIFE. IF
8:54JESUS CALLED ME TO GIVE, I'M NOT
8:56SETTLING FOR A GUARDED LIFE. IF JESUS
8:59CALLED ME TO WITNESS, I'M NOT SETTLING
9:02FOR A silent light. ARE Y'ALL WITH ME?
9:06>> SOMEBODY SAY, "I'M NOT SETTLING
9:07ANYMORE."
9:10>> THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT because
9:13God have mercy. THIS IS IMPORTANT
9:15BECAUSE IF JESUS CALLED ME TO BE A
9:17DISCIPLE, I'M NOT SETTLING FOR A
9:19spectator life.
9:22>> Why? Because I believe, watch this, the
9:25devil is a liar.
9:29>> [gasps]
9:29>> He is a liar.
9:31>> He is a liar because I'm not settling
9:34for anything less than God's best.
9:37>> I'm not participating
9:40in uh watch this settling prayers.
9:45[laughter]
9:46[gasps]
9:46>> I I'm I'm not partnering
9:49>> with settling people.
9:50>> All right.
9:52>> And I'm not filling my calendar with
9:56settling plans. All right.
9:59>> All right. Let me come back. I'm not
10:01praying safe SETTLING PRAYERS. I I'M NOT
10:06AFRAID TO ASK GOD FOR BIG THINGS.
10:09>> I I I'M NOT PRAYING PRAYERS THAT REQUIRE
10:12MORE FAITH IN MY LIMITATIONS THAN I HAVE
10:15IN MY LORD.
10:18>> I'M NOT FILLING MY CALENDAR WITH
10:20SETTLING PLANS. LOOK AT SOMEBODY SAY, "I
10:22GOT BIG DREAMS."
10:23>> I GOT BIG DREAMS. SO, SO SOMETIMES
10:26SETTLING LOOKS LIKE PLANNING YOUR LIFE
10:28AROUND YOUR LIMITATIONS.
10:32AND THAT WOULD BE OKAY IF WE DIDN'T RUN
10:33INTO JOHN 10:10. The thief comes to
10:35steal, kill, and destroy. But I've come,
10:38right? That you might have life in
10:40heaven MORE ABUNDANTLY, RIGHT? THAT THAT
10:42THAT THAT LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY IS a Zoe.
10:45In the original language, IT IS A FULL
10:47LIFE. [laughter] IT IS A FULL LIFE. SO
10:50UNLESS IF I'M NOT STRIVING FOR A FULL
10:54LIFE IN CHRIST, I'M SETTLING FOR A EMPTY
10:57LIFE IN THE IN THE WORLD.
11:01>> OKAY,
11:03I'm just kind of laying foundation
11:04because I think that I think that this
11:06is important [clears throat] uh that we
11:08that we desire to not just settle for uh
11:13some when surplus is available.
11:17Amen. I I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOT
11:21JUST SETTLE for some when surplus is
11:25available. If I had time, I don't have
11:26time, but if I did have time, I'd tell
11:28you about a [laughter] a a father who
11:30brought his son uh to the disciples in
11:32Mark chapter number nine. I don't have
11:34time to tell you this, but if I did, I
11:36would tell you uh that he brought his
11:38son uh to the disciples uh to do
11:40something about his son. his son had
11:42this issue uh where this spirit kept
11:45making him convulse and all of this
11:46stuff and it was dragging him all over
11:48to where to the degree that he was out
11:50of control of of his own bodily
11:52movements. Right? Uh [laughter] I don't
11:54have TIME BUT IF I DID HAVE time I would
11:56tell you how UH THIS SON TOOK THIS
11:59FATHER TOOK THE son to the disciples and
12:01when he took him to the disciples to try
12:03and get the evil spirit out THE BOY THEY
12:05COULDN'T DO IT.
12:07I don't have time to tell you this, but
12:09if I did, I would tell you that THE
12:11FATHER, WATCH THIS, DIDN'T settle for
12:13that answer.
12:17[laughter]
12:18>> And then when WHEN HE SAW WHEN JESUS
12:21CAME, HE SAYS, "HEY, [laughter] I I I
12:23BROUGHT MY BOY TO UH TO YOUR DISCIPLES."
12:27AND UH THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. SO, IN
12:30OTHER WORDS, HE KNOCKED ON ONE DOOR AND
12:33DIDN'T GET THE ANSWER THAT HE WANTED,
12:35BUT HE DIDN'T STOP KNOCKING. [applause]
12:38I man, YOU SAID, "WHERE MY CHURCH AT?"
12:40HE HE THE FATHER WASN'T TAKING NO
12:44[screaming] FOR AN ANSWER. AND I WISH
12:47THIS MY first preach of the sermon. I
12:49WISH WE HAD SOME PEOPLE THAT AREN'T SO
12:52SOFT THAT THEIR FIRST NO MAKES THEM RUN
12:55AND HIDE. [applause]
12:58I WISH WE HAD SOME BELIEVERS WHO HAD
13:01ENOUGH FAITH TO [screaming] HANDLE A NO.
13:05>> If if Lord have mercy, I WISH THAT GOD
13:11WILL CONTINUE TO RAISE UP A GROUP OF
13:13INDIVIDUALS WHO'S GOING TO SAY, "I'M NOT
13:16GOING TO ALLOW WHAT THEY SAID NO TO TO
13:20CAUSE ME TO FORGET WHAT GOD SAYS YES
13:23TO."
13:24>> THAT'S RIGHT.
13:28every
13:29every Oh yeah, there's a scripture that
13:31say you have not
13:34[gasps]
13:35>> because you ask not. Maybe it's because
13:37you stop asking them. Or or maybe it's
13:41because you stop asking him. [panting]
13:44Um um I've learned something and this is
13:46for like six people that's going to
13:48catch this by faith. I'll get to my
13:49text. I promise you I got plenty of
13:51time. I'll get to my text. But this is
13:52for like six people that's going to
13:54catch this by faith. And that is every
13:57no is getting you closer to your yes.
14:01>> See, I knew they wouldn't catch it. I
14:04knew it. It's all good. It's cool. It's
14:07cool. BUT THERE'S A FEW OF US THAT HAVE
14:09EXPERIENCED some rejection. It's a few
14:12of us that have experienced SOME NOS IN
14:14OUR LIVES. AND YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS
14:16LIKE TO HAVE YOUR HEART set on a yes.
14:18AND THEN YOU DON'T GET THE ANSWER THAT
14:20YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO GET. WELL,
14:22I GOT A WORD FOR ABOUT 16 PEOPLE THAT
14:24HAVE RECEIVED THIS that every no is
14:26getting you CLOSER TO YOUR YES. SO THAT
14:29SHOULD REFRAME how I hear no. [applause]
14:32SO WHEN I HEAR NO DIFFERENTLY, WHEN I
14:35HEAR NO AS SIMPLY A REDIRECTION AND NOT
14:38SIMPLY A REJECTION, I'M THANKFUL FOR THE
14:41NOS BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T DO FOR ME WHAT
14:43I NEEDED YOU TO DO ANYWAY.
14:48SO, SO, SO, so I'm at the point I'm
14:53really preaching the text, but I'm not
14:54preaching the text. I'm just kind of
14:55kind of hovering over the text. Um, I'm
14:57at the point where uh I I I'm selfish
15:01like this. And y'all pray for pray for
15:03your pastor. Um, but I want it all. I I
15:06want I want everything that God has for
15:09me. I want it.
15:11>> See? See? It's cool. I want it. Y'all
15:13looking at your neighbor. I want it. I I
15:15don't know about you, some people are
15:16okay with what they have and they could
15:18like that. But me personally, I want it
15:21all. I want I DON'T WANT ANYTHING THAT
15:23BELONGS TO YOU, BUT I WANT EVERYTHING
15:25THAT GOD has for me. I want power. I
15:28WANT DISCERNMENT. I want wisdom. I WANT
15:30ANOINTING. I WANT PEACE. I want hope. I
15:33WANT JOY. I WANT LOVE. I WANT MONEY. I
15:36WANT GIFTS. I WANT FORGIVENESS. I WANT
15:38FOR LOOK AT SOMEBODY AND SAY, "I WANT IT
15:40[screaming] ALL. [cheering]
15:45NOW UNTO HIM, I'M SORRY. NOW UNTO HIM
15:48WHO IS ABLE TO DO FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY
15:51THAN WE CAN ASK OR THINK ACCORDING TO
15:54[screaming] THE POWER THAT WORKS ON THE
15:56INSIDE OF YOU. IF GOD SAYS IT'S
15:59AVAILABLE, TOUCH TWO PEOPLE AND TELL
16:01THEM, "I WANT [screaming] IT ALL."
16:08THE BIBLE, THE BIBLE, THE BIBLE KEEPS
16:11INTRODUCING US TO A GOD WHO IS NOT
16:14INTIMIDATED BY LIMITATIONS.
16:17>> It's a God who opens seas. A God who
16:19brings water from rocks. A GOD WHO GIVES
16:22BARREN WOMEN BABIES. A GOD WHO CALLS
16:25DEAD THINGS TO COME TO LIFE. A GOD WHO
16:28SPECIALIZES IN MAKING WAYS WHERE there
16:31is NO WAY. I'M NOT SETTLING FOR ANYTHING
16:34LESS THAN AN OPEN SEA. I DON'T CARRY
16:38PHARAOH'S BEHIND ME. I KNOW THAT GOD IS
16:40WITH ME. AND IF GOD BE FOR ME, WHO IN
16:43THE WORLD? WHO IN THE LOOK AT SOMEBODY.
16:46I DARE YOU TO HIGH FIVE SOMEBODY AND
16:48SAY, "I'M NOT SETTLING ANY LONGER.
16:55>> I'm not settling.
16:57I I'M REMOVING THE LIMITATIONS.
17:01I'M REMOVING THE LEARNED LIMITATIONS.
17:05I'M ALLOWING GOD to remove learned
17:09limitations. But here's the tension.
17:12Here [laughter]
17:14here's the tension where I lose the
17:15whole church. Here's the tension.
17:18[laughter]
17:19What if some of the things um we haven't
17:21acquired are not because God wasn't
17:24willing to give them, but we were afraid
17:27to ask for them?
17:29Good.
17:31>> What What if What if our learned
17:34limitations
17:36lowered our language?
17:39>> What if because we haven't experienced
17:41it, we stop asking for it?
17:45>> What if the peace that we've been
17:47praying for, we haven't experienced and
17:49it's been so long that we haven't
17:50experienced it, we stop asking for it.
17:54Uh well well the there there's a
17:57difference between not having something
17:58and not believing you can have it. Now
18:00now now not being something and not
18:02believing that you can become it.
18:04Sometimes sometimes he has to convince
18:08us to settle for a life smaller. Let me
18:12say it like this. Sometimes he just has
18:14to convince us to settle for a life
18:17smaller than the one God is calling us
18:18to. The enemy is trying to get us to
18:21convince us to settle for a life that's
18:23smaller than the one that God has called
18:26us to be. And in our text, it shows us a
18:28picture. John introduces us, as a matter
18:30of fact, to a man who has been living
18:32with limitations for 38 years.
18:36>> This this this man has been living with
18:39the limitation for 38 years.
18:43There's a few questions that the text
18:44forces me to ask, but but I guess from
18:47the outset, what happens to a person
18:48when they've lived under a limitation so
18:50long that the limitation starts living
18:52on the inside of them?
18:56>> No, I want to navigate this narrative
18:58just just I'll get to the text in a
19:00moment, but I want to navigate this
19:01narrative uh in a in a in a with a with
19:04a nuance, I guess I should say, because
19:06most of us in here, if you don't know,
19:08uh Jesus heals this man. I just spoiler
19:10alert, that's what happened. Cool. And
19:11uh but but yeah, it happens. Jesus does
19:14that. He has this way about like healing
19:16people. That's Yeah, he does that. So I
19:19want to navigate this narrative with the
19:20nuance though. I want to kind of not so
19:22much deal with the story of this man,
19:24but I want to deal with the psyche of
19:26this man because maybe his limitation
19:30wasn't just in his legs.
19:33Maybe it wasn't in his movements. Maybe
19:35his limitation was in his mind.
19:39MAY MAYBE SOME OF OUR LIMITATIONS
19:43>> COME ON NOW
19:44>> ARE MORE HERE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE.
19:48>> So by the time of our text, ladies and
19:50gentlemen, uh John 5 opens up with Jesus
19:53giving us uh going up to Jerusalem uh
19:57for one of the Jewish feasts. John John
19:59doesn't tell us uh that Jesus came
20:01looking for this particular man. He
20:03simply tells us that Jesus was in
20:04Jerusalem near the sheep gate where
20:07there was a pool called Bethesda.
20:10Um surrounded by people who were sick,
20:14blind, lame and paralyzed. Can can we
20:17read the Bible in church? John chapter
20:19number 5 verse number one says this.
20:21Sometime later Jesus went up to
20:22Jerusalem for one of the Jewish
20:23festivals. Now there was in Jerusalem
20:25near the sheep gate of pool which in in
20:27Aramaic is Bethesda and which surrounded
20:30by five covered colonades.
20:33Here there a great number of disabled
20:36people used to lie. The blind, the lame,
20:40the paralyzed. One who was there had
20:43been an invalid for 38 years. Now your
20:46version may say he might be impotent.
20:50Um uh your version might say lame. The
20:54the word there is in fact impotent
20:56meaning he can't do anything for
20:59himself. That that's the idea. So here
21:02HERE HERE AN impotent man is getting
21:06ready to have an encounter with
21:08omnipotence.
21:09>> Come on pastor
21:11PEEP THIS PEEP WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE. JU
21:13THIS OMNIPOTENCE WALKS UP ON impotence
21:17>> and and and and in the text in the text
21:19Jesus WALKS UP ON THIS GENTLEMAN AND
21:22JESUS WITH A PLACE filled as the text
21:24says with blind lame paralyzed
21:28individuals
21:29>> ALL [screaming] GOT ISSUES
21:32>> CAME TO ONE PLACE THEN ONE MAN LOOKS AT
21:37ANOTHER LOOKS AT AN IMPOTENT MAN and the
21:40text SAYS THAT JESUS SAW HIM
21:43>> NOW. That should have made you pull your
21:45your neighbor's wig clean off.
21:48>> You should have snatched it off right
21:49then.
21:51You [laughter]
21:52just just straight straight design
21:55braids underneath. [laughter]
21:58Don't do that, Vlad. Here we go.
22:01IT YOU IT WOULD HAVE MADE IT BECAUSE I
22:04JUST TOLD YOU THAT THERE WERE A NUMBER
22:07OF PEOPLE THERE.
22:08>> NOW, NOW SCHOLARS SUGGEST THAT THERE
22:10WOULD BE HUNDREDS. NOW, particularly in
22:12a time of a festival or a feast of some
22:14of some sort, THERE COULD BE THOUSANDS
22:16OF INDIVIDUALS THERE. SO, this is a time
22:19of a festival. So, let's just assume
22:21there's 2,000. It could be more or it
22:23could be less, but let's just assume
22:24there's at LEAST 2,000 PEOPLE. 2,000
22:27PEOPLE
22:28AND JESUS WALKS UP
22:31>> TO ONE PERSON.
22:32>> Y'all don't know what favor looks like.
22:36>> 2,000 [screaming] OR MORE PEOPLE. AND
22:38JESUS CALLS AND SEES ONE PERSON.
22:43>> I GAVE YOU THIS BEFORE, BUT I thought it
22:44was good, so I wanted to repeat it. Uh,
22:46and that IS FAVOR IS GOD'S ACCEPTANCE,
22:50>> GOD'S APPROVAL, AND GOD'S ACCELERATION.
22:54>> ACCEPTANCE IS WHEN GOD SAYS YOU.
22:58APPROVAL IS WHEN GOD SAYS YES.
23:01ACCELERATION IS WHEN GOD SAYS, "NOW,
23:05I'll come get you." FAVOR IS GOD'S

32:03been dealing with this condition for 38
32:04years and asks him that question. On the
32:06surface it seems almost offensive. Do
32:08you want to get well? Do you want to get
32:09hit? Of course.
32:12What do you mean? What kind of question
32:14IS THAT? HE'S ASKING BECAUSE SOMETIMES
32:16WE HAVE TO BE, WATCH THIS, DON'T RUN OUT
32:18TO CHURCH. SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO BE
32:20CONFRONTED WITH OUR DESIRES BEFORE WE
32:23CAN BE confronted with our dysfunction.

32:28>> BEING STUCK DOESN'T JUST AFFECT OUR
32:31CIRCUMSTANCES. IT AFFECTS OUR PSYCHE.

32:35>> SO THE QUESTION IS DO YOU HAVE do I have

32:46psyche?

46:06HE SAYS, "Y'ALL SIT DOWN. Y'ALL MAKING
46:08ME NERVOUS. HE says [screaming]
46:11[crying]
46:12>> he says GET UP.
46:15>> THEN HE SAYS take up.
46:20>> This is interesting. I'm I'm about to
46:21lose the whole church. I
46:24man he says get up and take up your mat.
46:30And um the third thing that I see that
46:34leaps out of the text is we we see the
46:37inquiry, we see the instruction. Lastly,
46:41we see the invitation.
46:44Stuck stays with you.
46:47>> Then Jesus said to the man, verse number
46:49eight, Jesus said to the man, "Get up.
46:50Pick up uh pick up your mat and walk."
46:53>> And at once the man was cured. He picked
46:58up his mat
46:59>> and he walked.
47:02>> And Jesus essentially says um um
47:05[snorts]
47:05Oh God.
47:07Jesus didn't want to get the man simply
47:10off the mat.
47:12>> He wanted to get the mat out of the man.
47:19Jesus says, "Now walk,
47:22>> do something you couldn't do
47:26>> for 38 years.
47:29>> He he he was trying to get that Matt
47:31mentality out of him.
47:36>> I'm sorry, but I would be derelict in my
47:39duty if I didn't if I didn't ask you a
47:42question. Do you have
47:46some Matt mentality
47:48still in you that's keeping you stuck?
47:53Do Do you Is there something God is
47:57saying, "I love you so much. I called
48:00you out.
48:02I I pulled you out." And I said I said,
48:05"You."
48:07That's why you couldn't get any sleep,
48:08cuz I was bugging you. You You
48:11Yeah, you. I know everybody's different
48:14and you trying to Why? How come I always
48:16get Yeah. Yeah, you.
48:18He says, "I called you out because I
48:20favored you
48:22and uh
48:25I'm over time, but I'll just tell you
48:28that Jesus
48:30didn't let the man settle for
48:33I'm trying."
48:38He said, "No, that's more."
48:42Maybe the issue is
48:44maybe the issue is not that the man was
48:47not trying to get into the pool to get
48:50well.
48:53Maybe the issue is that he actually was
48:56trying.
48:59Maybe his trying was getting in the way
49:02of God's moving.
49:09Maybe he was trying to work it out on
49:10his own for a while
49:12and something happened.
49:17Maybe he was struggling with it. I know
49:20it's 38 years. You're like, man, that's
49:21a long time. Some of us it's been 12
49:23years. It's been six and it feels like
49:2538. Been 2 years.
49:29Some of us it's been 40 years.
49:32It feels like we've been stuck.
49:37The text just shows us that Jesus comes
49:38up with Jesus comes to this man, points
49:40him out, gives him a question. Hey,
49:43he'sn't just talking to the man. He's
49:45talking to us. He's asking us a
49:48question. Do we want to get well?
49:49Because you do know that there's a
49:51certain responsibility that's going to
49:52come with you being better.
49:54>> Now, you can't just sit there.
49:59>> So, sometimes we can want better but not
50:00want to do better.
50:05So it's like, okay, so if you get well,
50:08you do know that you're going to have to
50:09work now.
50:11>> You got responsibilities now.
50:14>> So some of us, we don't want to get well
50:15because we don't necessarily want the
50:17responsibilities that come with
50:19maintaining wellness.
50:24>> It's like, I want to get healthy, but I
50:25don't want to work out.
50:27It's like all of that running stuff is
50:29just like
50:32right.
50:34So Jesus there's an inquiry then then
50:37the inquiry then there's the instruction
50:40and Jesus is never asking him or us to
50:43do something that he has not given us
50:45the ability to do by his grace.
50:47>> So when Jesus told the man to get up he
50:50had already empowered the man to be able
50:53to do so by his power. That's why he
50:56gave the instruction. So if God is
50:58telling us get up, it's time to get up.
51:00That means Holy Spirit has already given
51:01us the power that's needed in order to
51:03do so. Cuz he's not going to ask us to
51:05do something we are incapable of doing.
51:08That's the instruction. And then there's
51:09the invitation. Now, will you walk?
51:13Will you walk this thing out? I didn't
51:16go into it. I didn't have time. Y'all
51:18was rushing me, but
51:20I did have time.
51:23But the first place this man goes
51:27is to the temple.
51:30Jesus sees this man in the temple. Then
51:32there's a whole discourse and Jesus
51:33begin to talk talk about the authority
51:35of the son and and and Jesus begin to
51:37tell them and everybody that's listening
51:39who it is the son is. And y'all go back
51:40and read it. And it's this awesome this
51:43awesome monologue or a sermon maybe that
51:45Jesus starts teaching about who it is
51:47that he is. But guess what? This man
51:49would have been on the outside not able
51:51to hear that. Not able to experience
51:52that except for he experienced the power
51:54of God which then allowed him to go into
51:56the house of God, get into the house of
51:58God, didn't hear the word of God. His
52:00his uh his transformation from stuckness
52:03to movement happened once he got under
52:06the word.
52:10>> He was literally under the word. This
52:12man was lame. Jesus was over him
52:14talking.
52:16then figuratively under the word when he
52:18got to the temple and Jesus was teaching
52:19about who he is.
52:22So there's something we got to do
52:23physically. There's something that we
52:24need to do spiritually. Everybody
52:25standing. I want to pray for you.
52:30Every eye closed, every head bowed. I
52:32want to make an appeal. Here's my
52:34appeal.
52:36My appeal is this.
52:40Many of us
52:43know what it feels like
52:47to be stuck.
52:57This man's stuckness was public. We saw
53:01it.
53:03Some of ours is private.
53:08We look good, but we're stuck.
53:13We're singing and stuck. We're preaching
53:17and stuck. We're raising kids and stuck.
53:21We're climbing the corporate ladder and
53:23stuck.
53:29I want to offer you what
53:32Jesus offered this man.
53:34An invitation
53:38to go from
53:41paralyzing that area to progression.
53:46With every eye closed, every head bowed.
53:48If you're here
53:51and you say, "God, I feel you pulling me
53:53forward. feel like I've been in this
53:55place of just man, I don't even really
53:57have language to describe it. I just
53:59kind of been stuck in this in this funk.
54:02I've been stuck mentally just been stuck
54:04spiritually. I don't know. I can't even
54:06really put words to it, but I just feel
54:07like
54:09I just feel like I don't have the same
54:11movement that I used to have.
54:15I want to pray for you. I want you to
54:17meet me here at the altar. I want to
54:18pray.
54:20Come on. Come on. Come from all over. Or
54:23maybe you say, "I I I do I have been
54:26experiencing movement, but it just not
54:28it hadn't been at the pace that I'm
54:30typically I typically sense or feel it."
54:34It's like, God, either you're moving
54:36slow or I'm slow. Like, I don't know
54:37what's going on.
54:41Come on. Come from all over. Come from
54:43all over. I just want to pray over you.
54:45I just want to pray a prayer of
54:46agreement over you. That's all. I want
54:50to come into agreement with God's word
54:51over your life. [music]
54:54In the name of Jesus,

55:05In the name of Jesus.
55:10Father, as
55:13Father, as your children are coming,
55:18God, we believe that
55:21one of the ways that you show us that
55:23you love us is
55:25you send us not so subtle reminders
55:29of who it is you are.
55:33Lord, we believe that one of the ways
55:36that you show us you love us
55:40is that you constantly prick our hearts.
55:46>> God, we believe that one of the ways
55:48that you show us you loved us is not
55:49that you don't condemn us, God, but you
55:52cover us. And and and and God, we pray
55:55now.
56:00We pray now God that
56:04for whatever area

56:13as we lay hands on them.
