0:00I mentioned dressing or applying
0:03bandages in a couple of the treatments
0:05that we've gone over so far and with the
0:08dressing understand that there are two
0:10types we've got sterile dressing and we
0:13have non-sterile dressing oftentimes if
0:16something is happening in an emergency
0:18situation the sterile dressing may not
0:21be accessible that's okay we want to use
0:24whatever we can that is clean and dry
0:26and available uh with the dressing it's
0:30used next to the wound to secure the
0:33wound however understand that you must
0:36be careful with the dressing because
0:37oftentimes it sticks to the wound and
0:40when we go to remove it it can cause
0:42further harm so if dressing is stuck to
0:45the wound you want to soak the dressing
0:46in sterile saline prior to removal and
0:50if you're using sterile dressing then
0:54you're going to want to make sure that
0:55you Don sterile gloves if you're
0:58utilizing non-sterile dressing then
1:00perfect okay to use non-sterile gloves
1:03any waste that you have that has bodily
1:06fluids we're going to dispose of that
1:08within the biohazard container
1:12and last here when handling the dressing
1:15only touch the edges that will not come
1:17in contact with the wound of course
1:19we've gone ahead and we've secured the
1:22wound we've cleaned the wound now we're
1:24bandaging the wound we want to make sure
1:26that we don't contaminate the area and
1:28so we do that by uh staying away from
1:32things that may be considered sterile
1:34and that are going to touch the skin
1:35we'd want to avoid having any contact
1:38with those
1:39continuing on with our first aid this is
1:42a contusion
1:44and a contusion is considered a closed
1:47injury it is a bruise
1:50typically caused by what's called blunt
1:52force trauma
1:55and if we're looking for treatment for
1:57stabilization an ice cold pack works
2:00perfectly along with elevation of the
2:03injured limb
2:06and if depending on the location of this
2:09would it might require some additional
2:11assessments of course if this were a
2:13head injury and we saw a contusion of
2:15this sort you would definitely want to
2:18assess the patient and uh their
2:21Consciousness level
2:23concussions concussions are considered
2:25closed injuries
2:28and a concussion is defined as a violent
2:31jarring or shaking that results in a
2:33disturbance of brain function
2:35so definitely going to require patient
2:38observation
2:40going to want to find out what type of
2:42status this patient is in we can do that
2:45by an overall assessment of what we can
2:48visually take in as well as if we have
2:50the ability to we can measure their
2:52biter signs
2:54uh and a provider may want to go one
2:57step further just to get a clear
3:00definition on what kind of injury this
3:03is and that may require some sort of uh
3:05x-rays
