0:00let's go back in and discuss some other

0:03common medical emergencies that you may

0:05come in contact with and have to assist

0:07with in your field of practice we have

0:10seizures and we have strokes now with

0:12seizures seizures have many reasons as

0:14to why they arise uh it can result from

0:18trauma

0:20and they have a range we have what's

0:22called a grand mal seizure to a petite

0:24Mall grandma is going to be on the

0:28larger scale whereas short or or I'm

0:30sorry petite mall it's going to be on

0:32the shorter lasting side of a seizure

0:36if you were to notice a patient that had

0:39a seizure you'd want to assist them into

0:41a lying recovery position

0:44you want to protect the patient if

0:46they're on the ground in a busy

0:48situation make sure that you create

0:50boundaries so people know that something

0:52is happening there

0:54till the patient's head to the side

0:58stay with the patient continue to

1:00observe the patient and if this

1:03continues you would have called or

1:05someone else would have called 9-1-1 for

1:07future treatment

1:11over to the right we have strokes and

1:13strokes result from hypoxia

1:17uh with strokes this is a blood clot or

1:20a rupture of a blood vessel

1:22the patient will experience signs of

1:25weakness and paralysis

1:28and they may also have some difficulty

1:30with recalling certain words in speech

1:35if you were to witness something on this

1:37magnitude you would absolutely try to

1:40protect the patient

1:42obtain any Vital sign that you're able

1:45to and if necessary because this is uh

1:49or results from hypoxia you may have to

1:52administer oxygen

1:54now in reference to the CPR in AED now

1:58this is going to be a requirement that

2:01you all will want to fulfill once you're

2:03done with the stuff program it would be

2:05beneficial for each one of you to make

2:07sure that your CPR is certified

2:10and M.A should be certified in CPR and

2:14we don't want to just keep that

2:15knowledge with us once we learn

2:17something that has so much value pass it

2:20around make sure that everyone in your

2:22family anyone that watches your children

2:24any one of your loved ones make sure

2:26that they all know how to perform CPR

2:30with CPR it's very basic uh it has

2:33what's called a rate

2:35and the rate is going to be from 100 to

2:38120 chest compressions per minute

2:42and in between those chest compressions

2:45we're going to also administer what's

2:47called rescue breaths

2:49and in those rescue breasts for every

2:51three times that you compress on a

2:54patient's chest for every 30 times

2:56you're going to stop and you're going to

2:58give two breaths into the patient's

3:00mouth

3:01once you've done that we don't see any

3:03changes we go back to our routine of CPR

3:08the AED is a little bit different and so

3:12the AED acts on electrical activity and

3:16it's programmed to really give your

3:18heart a wake-up call

3:20so an AED automated external

3:22defibrillator and this is going to be

3:24for patients that experience Cardiac

3:26Arrest ventricular fib

3:30it does have an automatic voice that

3:33speaks to you and tells you that it's

3:35evaluating the situation and it's going

3:38to give you next steps

3:41so if it's giving you next steps please

3:43make sure that you are abiding by those

3:46next steps so following the commands

3:50and we don't want to throw off the

3:53reading of the AED so we want to avoid

3:56touching any metal during the process

4:01this again is something that you can go

4:03and acquire further treatment or further

4:06uh education I'm sorry

4:09so I would suggest that each one of you

4:11if you're not already CPR certified make

4:15sure that you do enroll in a CPR

4:17certification course

4:20and as I shared before once you learn it

4:22share it with all of those that you love

4:25everyone that's around you

4:27wrapping this lesson up with our key

4:29terms we start at the top with cabs and

4:32c a b stands for circulation Airway and

4:35breathing

4:37abrasion is going to be an injury from a

4:40scrape or a rub

4:42incision and laceration they're both

4:44wounds incision is going to be more of a

4:47clean cut laceration typically is going

4:49to be deeper and more jagged

4:53puncture wound is like a stab wound

4:57contusion is a bruise concussion

5:00involves the head it's trauma where the

5:02brain has been shaken unexpectedly

5:06strain due to excessive over stretching

5:09of a muscle or tendon whereas spraying

5:11is going to be injury due to a tearing

5:14of a tendon or ligament so over

5:17stretching for our strain tearing for

5:20our sprain

5:24diabetic coma

5:26is in reference to one who has hyper

5:30glycemia so this is going to be a high

5:33blood sugar and abnormally large blood

5:36sugar level

5:38and then hypoglycemia someone who

5:40experiences low blood sugar

5:45next you have the term syncope syncope

5:47references fainting epistaxis is a

5:51nosebleed myocardial infarction it's

5:53going to be a heart attack and then we

5:55have a CVA cerebrovascular accident

5:58which is a stroke
