0:05A man and his family are on their way
0:07to his mother-in-law's house to spend
0:09Christmas together . However , their
0:12lives will change drastically when they
0:14decide to take a shortcut on a desolate
0:16road and paranormal events begin to
0:18unfold . The film begins with the
0:23Harrington family traveling to their
0:25grandparents ' house for Christmas
0:26dinner . And tagging along on the trip
0:29is the daughter's boyfriend . To
0:31continue , I need to introduce you to
0:32all the characters . He is Frank , she is
0:35Laura , he is Richard , she is Marion ,
0:37and he is Brad , Marion's boyfriend .
0:40Frank drives for several minutes until
0:42the whole family falls asleep , and the
0:45tranquility of the road makes Frank
0:47start to feel sleepy too . The
0:49inevitable happens and Frank falls
0:51asleep at the wheel for a few seconds .
0:54Marion wakes up and screams at her
0:56father to wake up because another
0:57vehicle is approaching and they were
0:59about to crash . Frank makes sure
1:04everyone is okay and then gets out of
1:06the car to see if it has any damage .
1:09Laura realizes they are not on the
1:11usual route to her mother's house , to
1:13which Frank replies that he took a
1:15shortcut to break the monotony . After
1:18making sure the car is in good
1:19condition , they decide to continue
1:20their trip to his mother-in-law's house
1:22. Along the way , Laura says it's
1:24strange that there are no other cars on
1:27the road , to which Frank replies that
1:29it's normal because it's Christmas Eve
1:31and everyone is at home preparing for
1:33Christmas . The film shows us for a
1:36moment how long the road is and how it
1:38is completely surrounded by thick
1:40vegetation . From one second to the next
1:43, Frank stops abruptly when he sees a
1:45white silhouette in the woods , to which
1:47his family tells him there is no one
1:48there . To everyone's surprise , a woman
1:51dressed in white appears and knocks on
1:53the window . When trying to speak with
1:55the woman , she does not answer any of
1:57the questions asked by Frank . The man
2:00remembers that a few kilometers back
2:02there was a small cabin and perhaps
2:03they can help them call an ambulance
2:05there , since none of them had a signal
2:06on their cell phones . The problem is
2:10that they don't all fit in the car , so
2:12Marion volunteers so that the woman in
2:14white and her baby can go with her
2:16parents . Surprisingly , the family
2:19agrees to let their daughter stay alone
2:20in the dark woods while they take a
2:22stranger with them . Along the way , they
2:25keep trying to get the woman to say a
2:27word , but it is useless because she
2:29seems to be in a state of shock .
2:31Richard mentions that something smells
2:33terrible , and Brad replies that it's
2:35the baby the woman is carrying . They
2:37finally reach the cabin , and Richard
2:39heads into the darkness of the woods to
2:42Frank and Laura get out of the car to
2:45explore the cabin and realize it was
2:47empty . All that was inside were some
2:50hunting weapons , a few animal bones ,
2:52and some old household utensils . In the
2:55car , Brad tries to talk to the woman
2:57and she still says nothing , but
2:59surprisingly she lets him see her baby ,
3:02and when he removes the blanket , he
3:04realizes the baby was completely
3:06mangled . Upon hearing the boy's scream ,
3:09everyone returns to the car and
3:10realizes that Brad and the woman have
3:12disappeared . Meanwhile , Marion was
3:14walking toward the cabin . And this is
3:17when a black car begins to emerge from
3:20the darkness , with Brad in the back
3:22screaming for help . Marion manages to
3:25find her parents and tells them what
3:27she saw a few minutes ago . Immediately ,
3:30Frank and his family take to the road
3:32and drive at high speed to catch up
3:34with that mysterious black car .
3:37Suddenly , Frank stops the car and gets
3:39out because he says he just saw
3:41something on the road . When he
3:43approaches the thing , he realizes it
3:45was Brad or , well , what was left of him
3:47. Marion goes into shock upon seeing
3:50that her boyfriend is dead and that he
3:53was brutally tortured with some machete
3:55or saw . Laura uses Brad's phone to call
3:58the police and is shocked to hear the
4:00voice of the woman in white on the
4:02other end saying she can't feel her
4:05legs , and that her baby is bleeding and
4:07needs help . She decides not to say
4:10anything about what she just heard and
4:12asks Frank to leave there as soon as
4:14possible . A few kilometers ahead , Frank
4:17stops again because he sees a sign
4:19indicating that Marcott is very close
4:22by . This confuses Frank , since they had
4:25never heard of that town , and upon
4:27checking the map , they realize there is
4:29nothing by that name . Richard comments
4:32that it's very strange they haven't
4:34seen any cars on the road despite
4:35several minutes passing , to which Frank
4:38replies it's because everyone is at
4:40home . Laura says it is 7:30 at night ,
4:43but Frank replies that can't be
4:45possible because they picked up the
4:47girl at that exact time . Laura decides
4:50to check her wristwatch , and it had
4:52also stopped at that same time , 7:30 at
4:54night . Frank continues driving for a
4:58long while and mentions that he hasn't
4:59seen anything , no lights , no exits , nor
5:01the town of Marcott . Frank stops again
5:04because a baby carriage appears in the
5:07middle of the road . When they get out
5:09to check it , they realize it's empty ,
5:11so he decides to push it to the side .
5:13For a moment they turn away , and
5:15Richard notices that the carriage has
5:17appeared back in the middle of the road
5:20. Resuming their journey , Frank decides
5:22to turn on the radio to see if any
5:24station could give the time , but they
5:26all get chills upon hearing a baby
5:28crying . Along the way , Frank and Laura
5:33argue about family problems and have to
5:35stop again because they get a flat tire
5:37. Here , Marion reveals that she is
5:40pregnant and Richard that he smokes
5:42weed . Frank starts changing the car's
5:46tire while Richard heads into the woods
5:48to smoke a little . However , his moment
5:51of fun ends when that woman in white
5:54appears and kisses him , at the same
5:56time literally eating his mouth . That
5:59black car passes by the road again , and
6:02inside the trunk is Richard , also
6:04calling for help . Getting into the van
6:07to try and catch the black car , Frank
6:09sees that woman in white in the woods
6:11with the baby in her arms , and she
6:12magically disappears . The man drives at
6:16maximum speed , but it seems they lost
6:18that mysterious car . However , they stop
6:21again when they see that Richard's body
6:23was completely mangled . Laura is
6:26completely devastated and goes into
6:28such a state of extreme shock that she
6:30even loses her sanity . Frank decides to
6:32take his son's body and puts it in the
6:35trunk to give him a proper burial later
6:37. Marion hands her father a shotgun she
6:40was going to give to her uncle , but
6:42seeing the situation they are in , it
6:44seems they need it more . Frank keeps
6:47driving and sees the Marcott sign again
6:48, and they cannot explain what the hell
6:50is happening . For her part , Laura
6:53starts behaving in an erratic way due
6:55to her son's death , which makes Frank
6:57and the girl very uncomfortable , and
6:59she also draws a picture of how her son
7:01ended up .
7:02What do I see ? A rival . Frank confesses
7:04to his daughter that he saw the woman
7:06in white again and thinks that she is
7:07the one behind all of this . This
7:11reminds him of a story his father used
7:13to tell him as a child about a couple
7:15driving home from a wedding who
7:17encountered a little girl with a book
7:19on the side of the road . They decided
7:22to pick her up , but when they tried to
7:24talk to her , the girl said nothing . The
7:27couple drove for a few miles until they
7:28heard the girl scream , and when they
7:30turned around to see what was happening
7:31, they only found her book . Upon
7:34checking it , they realized it belonged
7:36to a girl who had died at that spot
7:38with her family five years earlier .
7:40Frank stops because Laura started
7:42feeling sick from eating so many sweets
7:44. At this point , both lose focus , and
7:47Laura takes the opportunity to shoot
7:49Frank for telling her that her son had
7:51died . I mean , the woman was basically
7:54already insane . How intense ! How
7:56intense !
7:57After bandaging the wound , they
7:59continue driving down the road , still
8:01wondering why they haven't seen
8:02anything for miles . Frank deduces that
8:05the road might be some military route
8:08and that Marcott could be a base . And
8:11that perhaps this explains why it is so
8:13deserted there . Laura says she sees her
8:16friend Amin standing by the road , but
8:18Frank tells her that's impossible
8:20because Amin died five years ago . The
8:22woman says that no one will stop her
8:24from going to her friend and jumps out
8:26of the moving car . When they get out of
8:28the car to see if Laura is okay , they
8:31are confused to find that her body is
8:33gone . And at that moment , that
8:35legendary black car reappears . Frank
8:38shoots at the car and it retreats into
8:39the darkness , and immediately Laura
8:41reappears , only to die seconds later as
8:43they continue on their way . This time ,
8:45Marion is driving the van , and once
8:48again they see the sign for Marcott .
8:51Damn it . Frank comes to the conclusion
8:54that to reach Marcott , maybe they
8:55shouldn't take the road , but go through
8:56the woods instead . The pair decides to
8:59stop the car and starts walking through
9:01the woods until they find a wire fence
9:04and see a yellow light in the distance .
9:06Upon reaching the source of the light ,
9:08they are even more confused because
9:10they come out on the other side of the
9:12road , which makes no sense since they
9:14walked in a straight line the whole
9:16time . With no other choice , they return
9:18to the car and continue driving for
9:20several minutes . until Frank tells his
9:23daughter to stop because he sees the
9:24cabin where they had been before .
9:27Investigating the site , they realize
9:29there is no one there and that perhaps
9:31they are trapped on that road forever .
9:34From one second to the next , Frank
9:36begins to hallucinate and beats his
9:38daughter until she loses consciousness ,
9:40and he realizes the woman in white was
9:41watching her from the trees . Quite
9:44annoyed , Frank decides to go after her
9:46and Marion tries to listen when she
9:51starts seeing different shadows around
9:53the car , and after driving a few miles ,
9:55the car runs out of gas . The girl gets
9:59out of the car and sees several body
10:00bags containing her parents , her
10:02brother , and her boyfriend Brad . At
10:05that moment , that woman appears , as
10:07does that mythical car . And the woman
10:09with the baby tells her they haven't
10:11come for Marion , but for her . Suddenly ,
10:15Marion wakes up in the hospital and is
10:17told that her entire family died in a
10:19car accident and that they had hit a
10:21woman and her baby , who had
10:23unfortunately also died . The doctor's
10:27name was Marcott , and the black car
10:28they were looking at belonged to this
10:30man , who was the one who rescued her
10:31from the wreckage and took them to the
10:33hospital . And that is how the movie
10:35ends .
10:36Hey , I'm confused . Is it a sad ending
10:38or a happy ending ?
10:39It's an ending , and that's that .
10:41Honestly , the idea was really good . But
10:43I think the writer didn't know how to
10:45finish the story and gave it a very
10:47simple ending . Lastly , we have a short
10:50post-credits scene where men are seen
10:52cleaning up the crash wreckage , and on
10:54the ground was a note that Frank had
10:56written hours after having died . With
10:59this , it leaves a much more confusing
