0:00One thing we have to acknowledge is
0:01that The Lantern manages to outdo
0:03itself every week in terms of
0:04controversy . We can all agree on that ,
0:06right ? Oh , the show’s pacing is fine ,
0:07but the show is controversial , okay ? Do
0:09you agree ? If you thought they already
0:11hated RJ before , man , honestly , episode
0:147 will prove to you that even after
0:16death , they can still crap even more on
0:18RJ and his family . They are really
0:20going after RJ . Guys , we know James

0:24you know , but he does . Okay ? And by the

0:28a reflection of him , you know ? All the
0:30characters will have problematic dads ,
0:32all of them . Anyway , let's get into
0:34another analysis of this series . Let's

1:42this GTA project . A lot of people will
1:43make money . I hope it’s you . Let’s
1:45go . Well , guys , the name of this
1:47episode is The Jordan Boys Legacy . It's
1:49an episode that will address this male
1:50legacy of the Jordan family , right ?
1:52Funny to talk about my family , even
1:53more impressive . And this legacy is ,
1:55what legacy ? It's suicide . I don't know
1:57if I can say it , this might get
1:58demonetized , but that's it . Yeah , yeah
2:00the legacy is this , man . It's
2:01impressive how this series seems to
2:03have been written on purpose just to
2:04distort everything , to generate
2:06controversy every week . Man , it's
2:07obvious , it's right there . It's
2:09impossible that no one sees this .
2:11Obviously , the way this series
2:12approaches this delicate subject is
2:14quite problematic , very questionable .
2:16But why , Petre ? Well , male , man , it's a
2:18problem that should be discussed ,
2:20should be addressed , that's fine . It's
2:22a very serious problem in society . To
2:24be specific , regarding suicide cases
2:26worldwide , 75 % are committed by men . In
2:29the United States , where the series is
2:31set , the ratio is 79.8 % male ,
2:33practically 80 % , right ? And there are
2:35countries where this ratio exceeds 90 % ,
2:37man . So it's a scary statistic for an
2:39issue that , in principle , has no
2:41connection to gender , agree ? Between
2:43man and woman . If you look at the
2:45definition , there's nothing
2:46gender-inherent there . So that's scary
2:49because a good part of male issues , you
2:51know ? Of male problems are socially
2:53underestimated , right ? And the reality ,
2:55man , is that the male issue is partly
2:57tied to the role , the pressure , and the
3:00lack of recognition for men in society .
3:02Damn , most men are working hard out
3:03there to bring home support for their
3:05families . There is an unspoken and
3:06little-recognized pain of the common
3:08man . There is a problem there , OK ? But
3:10the series doesn't discuss this problem
3:12. In the series , being male is not
3:14treated as the problem . The series
3:17presents it as the result . That's a
3:19problem . But wait a minute . Result of
3:21what ? Result of toxic masculinity . That
3:25is the true problem the series is
3:26addressing . Martin Jordan , right ? Hal's
3:28father , is that American macho
3:30stereotype , mustache , big car of a
3:32straight , top man , right ? That whole
3:34thing . Man , the guy who sits with his
3:36son in those beach chairs to watch jets
3:37fly over and talk like a champion male ,
3:39that stuff , you know how it is . He
3:41doesn't even want to know if his son
3:42helped the baseball team , no , man . He
3:44wants his son to be the best . He gets
3:46called to school , beats up the baseball
3:48coach . Damn , I'm a real man , man . I'll
3:50beat up the teacher . I'm a man . Hey ,
3:52son , we’re bruised because we beat
3:54each other up . We connect through
3:56violence , right ? And look , man , not to
3:58say the series pulled this out of thin
4:00air , there are indeed old masculine
4:02traits that can lead to psychological
4:04consequences , obviously , right ? Like , a
4:06man who doesn’t show feelings or
4:08weaknesses , he internalizes his own
4:10problems or externalizes them with
4:12violence , which creates more problems .
4:14And the result of that is a man who
4:16can’t deal with his own feelings , his
4:17own thoughts , or even endure his own
4:19existence . And look , there is an
4:21argument you can follow along those
4:23lines to portray male problems and
4:24dilemmas . But the series does this in a
4:27totally stereotypical way , almost like
4:29a demonization of masculinity itself .
4:32Hal Jordan's father in the series is a
4:34stereotype of toxic white male
4:36masculinity , right ? Yeah , in quotes ,
4:38okay ? And the worst part isn't even
4:40there , guys . The worst part is on Mars ,
4:43turning to his pre-teen son , a child ,
4:45and saying that this is the Jordan Boys
4:48Legacy . This pain in dealing with the
4:51world is something generational , right ?
4:52So what is the series trying to say
4:54with that ? What’s there in the
4:56subtext , right ? The series is basically
4:58talking about father-to-son upbringing .
5:00And how this toxic masculinity is
5:02passed from generation to generation ,
5:04creating sick men . So now , man ,
5:06everything the series showed makes
5:07sense with this arc . Now it does .
5:09Remember the series showing Hal Jordan
5:11making a somewhat racist joke about
5:13John’s family ?
5:14>> You guys are the salt of the earth .
5:15Practically the Huxtable family . When
5:17they showed him bothered by a naked man
5:19, while John Stewart , hell , is a modern
5:21man who studied art , was totally
5:22comfortable doing life drawing .
5:23Remember that ?
5:24>> You can cover yourself , my friend .
5:26Junior will know how to draw you from
5:27memory .
5:28>> Or for example , at Hulk’s funeral , he
5:30wrote a letter with a bit of a sexist
5:31snippet in it .
5:32>> Not that there can't be a female
5:34Lantern , but it’s a question of
5:35probability .
5:36>> Besides , of course , everyone in the
5:37series reacting to Hal and talking
5:39about him being a jerk . Everyone thinks
5:41he is a despicable creature . All these
5:43elements are this toxic masculinity
5:44that the series is addressing , all of
5:46them . And mental health problems ,
5:48suicide , those , those are the
5:49consequences of that . But that’s
5:51really it , man . This is the legacy of
5:52the men in the Jordan family . This is
5:54what it means to be a man in the Jordan
5:56family . Him being the man of this
5:58family , that's just it , man . Man ,
5:59honestly , what am I supposed to say ?
6:01What am I supposed to say , man ? In the
6:03comics , Hal Jordan sees his father as a
6:05superhero , a guy who wasn't afraid even
6:07when he was about to die . Hal Jordan
6:09wears that pilot jacket all the time
6:11because it was his father's jacket .
6:13Beneath the Lantern suit , Hal is always
6:15honoring and drawing inspiration from
6:17his father . Hal Jordan's origin in the
6:19comics is totally linked to his father .
6:21So Hal Jordan tries to do the right
6:23thing every day to honor his father .
6:24His father is what inspires him . In the
6:26act , he becomes a pilot just like his
6:28dad . His father inspires him to be a
6:30better person , inspires him , inspires
6:33him to give his best , man . His father
6:35is one of his greatest sources of
6:36willpower . Willpower is his core . It's
6:39a beautiful father-son relationship ,
6:41you know ? Even after death , right ? As a
6:44memory , as a feeling . Hal managed to
6:46turn pain into something positive , into
6:48willpower . The pain of losing his
6:50father turned into willpower . So the
6:52father stays , that's the legacy , the
6:54father stays with him , transforms him ,
6:56he is who he is because of his father .
6:58That's why he's a legend in the comics ,
7:00that's why he's such a kind guy . He's a
7:02guy , like , he's a superhero in the
7:04purest sense of the word , like Clark
7:06Kent , you know ? So his father , Martin
7:08Jordan , man , is a fundamental element
7:10of Green Lantern as a character . In the
7:12same way that the death of Batman's
7:14parents at the hands of crime is
7:15essential to the construction and
7:17psyche of the character , you know ? Only
7:19logically in a totally opposite context
7:21. Hal is a character who turned tragedy
7:23into overcoming . That is the legacy of
7:25Martin Jordan . But man , the show made a
7:27point of corrupting even that ; they
7:29made a point of tarnishing even Hal's
7:30origin with his father . Like , " to
7:32change it , I'm going to change
7:33everything . " In the show , the legacy
7:36that Martin passes on to a child , to
7:38his own son , is , " okay . " " Oh , your
7:40grandfather killed himself , I'm going
7:42to kill myself . " " One day you will too ,
7:44right ? " " This is the legacy I'm passing
7:45on to you . " " This is my generational
7:47gift for you to lead your life from
7:48here on out . " This is the , this is the
7:51Jordan boys ' legacy . And there are
7:52people defending this , man . Surreal ,
7:54man . You guys aren't realizing this ,
7:56are you ? You guys , man , it’s not
7:58possible . It’s not possible . It’s
8:00not possible . Where are we ? How can
8:02anyone say this is right ? I’ve
8:03reached a point where I really think
8:05there’s a crowd , some Twitter folks
8:07out there , living in a parallel
8:08universe where this weird stuff is
8:10beautiful , a work of art . Wow , geez ,
8:12how James G is fantastic . And when you
8:15see , like , the two main creative names
8:17behind this series , this episode really
8:19starts to make sense . I mean , it still
8:21doesn't make sense , right ? But , but you
8:23understand where it came from . This
8:25series was created and written
8:26basically by Damon Lindelof and Tom
8:28King . Well , Damon Lindelof was the guy
8:30who said that the Green Lantern's green
8:32is stupid . No , why , why did we need the
8:35green , the green ? Who cares about that ,
8:38damn it ? And then we get to an episode
8:40that literally has absolutely nothing ,
8:43zero . Guys , guys , I know a lot of
8:47people get angry at me because I'm ...
8:50It’s always like this , right , man ?
8:52When we speak ill , when we don't like
8:54something , we make enemies . I know that
8:55, but try to make an effort , man . I’m
8:57not a bad guy here , man . I’m not , I
8:59just didn’t like the series you liked
9:01, get it ? I have the right . I have the
9:03right . I don’t get angry when someone
9:04speaks ill of my series . I never have ,
9:06man . Never . I’m sure most people
9:07don’t either . Most don't give a damn .
9:09They’re just here to hear me talk .
9:10Because I really find it funny that
9:12there are some guys who throw a fit in
9:13the comments . " This guy doesn't know
9:14anything . " " This guy is whatever . " No ,
9:16man , it's okay . You have the right to
9:19like the series , but man , it makes no
9:21sense to attack me just because I , I , I
9:23didn't like it . Man , in this episode ,
9:25in this episode seven , which is the
9:26penultimate of the series , there isn't
9:28a single green construct in the entire
9:30episode . There is no Green Lantern
9:32power in the Green Lantern series , man .
9:35I said , " No , this is totally normal . " "
9:37It's True Detective style . " Yeah , James
9:40G said it was True Detective style .
9:42Damn , but it was supposed to be
9:43cosmological , it was supposed to be in
9:45space , in the universe , man , to have
9:47aliens , crazy . Got it . This is crazy
9:49stuff . Just so you can see how
9:51important it was to specifically adapt
9:52Green Lantern for this show , you know
9:54what I mean , man ? It could have
9:55literally been any character carrying a
9:57hologram there . You could take this
9:59plot to any other character that isn't
10:00Green Lantern . But anyway , on the other
10:02hand , you have Tom King putting out yet
10:04another one of his works . Man , Tom King
10:06, seriously . Well , for those who don't
10:08know this piece of work , this is an old
10:10story , okay ? Tom King is a former CIA
10:12agent who was in Middle Eastern
10:13countries where many innocent people
10:15died , and out of nowhere , he left the
10:17CIA and became a comic book writer .
10:19Strange to say the least , but okay , it
10:22could be , right ? But it's strange at
10:24the very least . But what's stranger ,
10:26and that's what I find really weird ,
10:28man , is that 99 % of the characters he
10:30writes become depressed and suicidal .
10:32And he repeats this in all of his
10:34stories . And often he portrays this in
10:36a romanticized way , you know ? Or just
10:38to create a shocking little scene , a
10:40cool little scene , but that's just a
10:41way of putting it . No , no , no , man . The
10:44guy actually really likes his
10:45characters to be suicidal , like ,
10:46literally suicidal . Detail : he
10:48literally did this with Hal Jordan . Yes
10:50, that scene of Hal Jordan putting the
10:51ring to his own head and erasing
10:53himself was written by Tom King . Man , I
10:55don't know if this is some kind of
10:56psyop , you know ? This guy is the best
10:58example of an industry plant in history
10:59, or he simply doesn't know how to
11:01write without doing a self-insert
11:02because , I don't know , man , deep down
11:04he's depressed , you know ? Maybe that
11:06could be it . I don't know , I don't know
11:07what's up with him . But damn , don't you
11:09find it strange , man ? Every story the
11:11guy writes , 99 % of them , out of every
11:14100 stories of his , 99 the guys want to
11:16kill themselves and want others to kill
11:17themselves too . No , it's so great to be
11:19suicidal . It's so great . I know that
11:21every time this guy gets a popular
11:22character , he tries to shock . He has
11:24Wonder Woman crying for days , clutching
11:26the United States flag . He did that , he
11:28did that . Batman , Batman praying with
11:30the Joker in a church , man . His Hal
11:33Jordan doesn't even know what willpower
11:34is , which is the equivalent of Superman
11:36, for example , saying he doesn't know
11:37what being Kryptonian is . That's it ,
11:39man . Hey guys , Tom King turned Wally ,
11:41the Flash , into a terrorist , a
11:43calculating murderer , and there was no
11:45one reigning Wally in , there wasn't ,
11:47man . Tom King just made Wally a
11:49murderer who would cover up his own
11:50crime . Then Wally was arrested , and
11:52later other writers had to retcon and
11:53undo Tom King’s screw-ups . The guy
11:55takes over and he has carte blanche to
11:57do whatever he wants . The others have
11:59to deal with it later , you know ? In
12:00short , these two guys , Damon Lindelof
12:02and Tom King , being behind the Lanterns
12:04series explains a lot , doesn't it ,
12:06about this episode and the series in
12:07general . Do you agree ? Now you
12:09understand it . One doesn't want green ,
12:11the other just wants suicide . You get
12:13it ? The characters who should be Red
12:15Lanterns , because they share their
12:16origin , turned into foreigners in the
12:18series , right ? Suicide bombers ,
12:20terrorists who wanted revenge on a war
12:22criminal spy who infiltrated and killed
12:24their desert home with a chemical
12:25weapon . Does that look like Green
12:27Lantern to you , or the United States
12:28versus the Middle East ? I’m seeing
12:30more of Tom King’s history in the CIA
12:32than Green Lantern . So , man , where am I
12:34, where am I going wrong in this
12:36analysis of mine , dude ? Where am I
12:38getting my analysis wrong ? Damn , man ,
12:40you might not know anything about ,
12:42about , about Green Lantern , but do you
12:44think this looks like a superhero show
12:46to you ? Do you think it has that DC
12:48soul of what a superhero universe is
12:50supposed to be ? And the funniest part
12:52is that Zoe , right , because she’s a
12:54war criminal , is being romanticized the
12:55whole time ; she did good for the
12:57community , the city defended her . The
12:59one in the wrong was Hal , right , who
13:00tried to arrest the war criminal .
13:01Everyone talks as if it were , you know ,
13:03murder to kill , to kill Zoe . Hal said
13:05that John is also a murderer for having
13:07killed Zoe . Man , Hal saying he doesn't
13:09even kill Manhunters , even though the
13:11Manhunters were literally supposed to
13:13be emotionless robots . The series tries
13:15to clear Zoe’s name and criminalize
13:17Hal the whole time . And it’s such a
13:19nonsensical thing , so crazy to me , man .
13:21So poorly written that I still haven't
13:23understood why Hal was arrested . Can
13:25someone explain that to me ? Seriously ?
13:27Can someone put down here what crime
13:29Hal committed ? Comment below . Help me
13:31with my analysis . He tried to stop a
13:32satellite from blowing up the city , he
13:34was there trying to arrest a genocidal
13:36maniac . What crime did he commit ?
13:37Seriously , man . He spent 10 years in
13:40prison . He spent 10 years in prison ,
13:42man . And there's a girl blackmailing
13:43John Stewart for over 300,000 , even
13:45though he already gave her two watches
13:46that were worth even more than that .
13:47When the Corps , at most , would only
13:49make him a suspect . OK . Honestly , I
13:51can't understand how people find the
13:52writing in this series so , so brilliant
13:54. How does someone turn around and say
13:56" absolute cinema " ? I really need to
13:57understand that . To me , it’s the
13:59purest essence of
14:00pseudo-intellectualism , you know ? That
14:02thing where people want to feel all "
14:04smart , " you get it ? This is the show
14:06for people who think they're smart . But
14:08that’s just how I see it , how I see
14:10it . Nothing against it , nothing against
14:12it , they have the right , OK ? But anyway
14:14, you see everything the series is
14:15trying to condemn and everything it's
14:16trying to romanticize . You can clearly
14:18tell it isn't coming from the mind of
14:20an average person with values , someone
14:22writing a superhero story , you know ?
14:24Adapting a universe that is entirely
14:26based on the cosmological concept of
14:28good versus evil , on the cosmological
14:30concept of hope . Man , DC Comics is
14:32based on those concepts , right ? DC
14:35heroes are archetypes . I've already
14:37told you this , and there is none of
14:38that in this series . You can clearly
14:40see there's a moral and philosophical
14:41distortion in the series . It’s a
14:43cynicism , man , that in many cases even
14:44becomes disgusting , like in this case
14:46here , you know , with the boys ' legacy .
14:48God , that is super dishonest . And the
14:50episode concludes with a hologram
14:52saying that the true killer was himself
14:53. He killed himself . And the worst part
14:55for me isn't even that , man . The worst
14:57part for me is that Hal says he was
14:59never fearless because he was brave . He
15:01was fearless because he was broken . In
15:03other words , he isn't fearless because
15:05he has great willpower and can overcome
15:07fear . He’s fearless because he’s
15:08broken and if he dies , so be it , right ?
15:10He’s fearless because he’s suicidal
15:12. The character became depressive and
15:14suicidal , like all Tom King characters .
15:15That’s it , man . Hal’s main
15:17characteristic , which is courage ,
15:19willpower , the ability to overcome
15:21great fears , the main moral and heroic
15:23quality of Hal Jordan as a character ,
15:25was turned into something negative .
15:27They swapped it , see ? They inverted it .
15:29So , guys , this specific quality is
15:31conceptually the character's superpower
15:34. It’s not just a character trait of
15:36his , it’s literally his superpower ,
15:38and they turned it into something
15:39negative . Then I have to watch James
15:41Gunn himself say : " We aren't
15:42disrespecting Hal , he has plenty of
15:44screen time . " Yeah , great . What is even
15:46being done with him during that screen
15:48time , right ? Even if the last episode
15:50next week has a huge plot point about
15:52Hal Jordan ? To me , there is still no
15:53fixing all the screw-ups they've
15:55already made to the Green Lantern
15:56mythology , you know ? And to Hal
15:58Jordan's backstory as well . Damn , to
16:00the RJ character , man . They managed to
16:02fill out , my brother , that whole
16:04checklist , all the checkboxes , the
16:05fundamental elements of the character ;
16:07they took every specific point that
16:09makes him who he is and turned it all
16:10upside down . They managed to corrupt
16:12everything , they take everything good
16:14he has , every checklist item , and
16:15transform it all , that's what they did .
16:17And it also worries me that they spend
16:19so much of the series ' time on this and
16:21fail to develop the season's actual
16:22plot . Man , it's been seven episodes of
16:24making the characters , you know , run in
16:25circles in this small town and the plot
16:27still hasn't kicked in . It just hasn't .
16:29The series constantly needs to keep
16:30creating mysteries to waste time having
16:32the characters drive from one place to
16:34another without using the ring . First
16:35it was who is the Manhunter , then it
16:37was who killed Hal Jordan . And then we
16:39get to the last episode and it seems
16:41like they finally developed Sinestro as
16:43a villain in the very last [ __ ]
16:45episode . In stoppage time , they want to
16:48address Sinestro , the origin of the
16:50Yellow Corps . An explanation for what
16:52Zoe did to the sheriff's son . An
16:54explanation for what was going on
16:55between Hal and John's mother . Man ,
16:57they're going to have to bring the
16:58Guardians of the Universe or the Corps
16:59in at some point to finally get
17:00involved , right ? Since you have
17:01Sinestro on the loose plotting
17:03something . Man , maybe they're even
17:04setting up Parallax as Hal Jordan ,
17:06right ? Hal Jordan being resurrected by
17:08that machine Zoe had , the machine that
17:10healed John's burns . And so I ask
17:11myself , will there be a fight in the
17:13final episode ? Will there be space ?
17:15Will there be Green Lanterns actually
17:16being Green Lanterns ? Will there be a
17:18hero show actually being a hero show ?
17:20Will there be any resolution to these
17:22300 loose ends that I'm bringing to you
17:24? Will there be time to do all of this
17:25in a convincing way ? in an episode that
17:27follows an entire dragged-out season ,
17:28or are they just going to leave it all
17:30as a cliffhanger for the second season ,
17:31you know ? I think if they do that , man ,
17:33it’s over . The second season is going
17:35to be a disaster . I really wonder about
17:37this , you know ? I think beyond the
17:38debate about what they're doing with
17:40Green Lantern lore and DC , I also
17:42wonder if the series actually knows how
17:44to build a narrative for a grand finale
17:47, or if it's just stalling with little
17:49payoff , like in episode 5. Because in
17:51episode 5 , when it had to show action
17:53and solve the mysteries , the show was a
17:55complete mess : poorly executed action ,
17:57plot full of holes . And I don't even
17:59want to talk much about the fact that
18:00Sinestro is an old guy in a cape who
18:02looks like a hobo , or that Hal has been
18:03a jerk since he was a kid , right ? It
18:05shows that thing about him not knowing
18:06how to work in a group , wanting
18:07everything for himself , not letting go
18:09of the ball , not letting go of the ring
18:10. The big truth , guys , and the proof
18:12that these people don't know the Green
18:14Lantern mythology , is that they turned
18:16Hal Jordan into an Orange Lantern :
18:18selfish , greedy , my , my , everything is
18:20" my precious . " He won't let go of the
18:22ring , he won't let go of the ball , it's
18:23all his . My precious . This Hal Jordan
18:26guy , man , he's Gollum , isn't he ?
18:28Obviously , this ball scene has two
18:30meanings , right ? The literal meaning
18:31was what I just said . Showing a
18:33personality trait of Hal's , but at the
18:34same time , I feel like this scene is
18:36foreshadowing that Hal will come back
18:38because his father told him he has to
18:39let go of the ball , let things go , you
18:41know ? Symbolically , he was talking
18:42about life , he was talking about
18:44suicide , but then in the end , Hal comes
18:45back and takes the ball , right ?
18:47Implying that he hasn't given up on
18:48holding onto things . I wonder if the
18:50end of the season will still be a fight
18:51between Hal and John . I don't know , man
18:53. What a weird show , honestly . With
18:55every passing episode , it gets worse ,
18:57sinks deeper , and gets into more
18:59controversy . The story is getting more
19:00and more dragged out , distorting
19:02everything more and more . It's possible
19:04the show will end with John Stewart as
19:05a Yellow Lantern , using the emotion of
19:07fear as his power . And that still being
19:09seen as a good thing , right ? That's the
19:10path the show is pointing towards . To
19:12me , that's it . The way they're flipping
19:14everything , I don't doubt anything
19:15anymore . And remember what I said , man ?
