0:001948 rings a bell hm oh yes of course it

0:04was in the last century Grandma and

0:06Grandpa's generation Legend has it that

0:08there were still dinosaurs hiding in

0:10caves up in the mountains but that is

0:13something we're really not sure of at

0:15all back then everyone was recovering

0:17from the second world war and its 70

0:19million dead the most devastating

0:21conflict in human

0:23history so in 1948 to make sure such

0:26atrocities would not happen again the

0:28search for shared values began why have

0:31people unite around a strong symbol the

0:33universal Declaration of Human Rights

0:36what is less known is that it was

0:37adopted by the UN General Assembly and

0:39has become the most translated text on

0:41Earth but what are human rights the

0:43rights you are entitled to simply

0:45because you are a human being in other

0:47words everyone benefits from them from

0:49birth without exception or distinction

0:52the idea behind it is that these rights

0:55are like needs they are absolutely

0:57necessary to live well without them it

0:59would be the law of the Jungle and you'd

1:01risk being beheaded if your government

1:03didn't like your Facebook

1:05status in the Declaration 30 articles

1:08there are the civil and political

1:09Liberties such as the right to life the

1:11right to vote freedom of expression or

1:13the prohibition of slavery and

1:15torture rights are interdependent

1:18indivisible and

1:19interrelated this means that if a right

1:21is not respected a series of other

1:23rights won't be either if you are

1:25homeless you live in the streets so you

1:28can't sleep you get sick you don't go to

1:30school and won't find a job violation of

1:33the right to adequate housing triggers

1:34the violation of the right to rest the

1:36right to education the right to work etc

1:39these are economic social and cultural

1:42rights okay so a great text was agreed

1:44upon but who does what well on paper the

1:48state's mission is to take the necessary

1:50measures for the Declaration to be

1:51respected but in

1:53reality there are some very bad students

1:56the Declaration is not a legislative

1:58text it's an ideal its name says it all

2:00it is a declaration therefore it is not

2:03valid in a court of law but Most states

2:05have integrated human rights in their

2:06constitution and therefore they must

2:08guarantee them you can defend human

2:11rights only if you know them everybody's

2:13role is to ensure they are

2:16respected Collective conscience means

2:18that each and every person is

2:19responsible for everybody else's

2:21well-being therefore we can all get

2:23involved protest against injustices and

2:26make the universal rights ideal succeed
