Nepal Floods: Death Toll Crosses 1,250, Nearly 5,000 Still Missing | India Today

0:00Our focus next shifts to Nepal which

0:02continues to battle the aftermath of the

0:04devastating floods that completely left

0:07behind a trail of destruction that

0:09they're still trying to grapple with.

0:11And the rescue and the relief operations

0:14only continue round the clock even after

0:17a week of over a week in fact of the

0:20disaster having struck the region. The

0:22death toll now has crossed 1,250 and

0:25nearly 5,000 people still remain

0:28missing. The numbers in both categories

0:30have in fact been only going up. Rescue

0:34and search operations are continuing

0:36across the worst hit areas as

0:37authorities race to locate survivors and

0:40provide relief. India has stepped up its

0:42assistance. Two more aircraft have been

0:45sent carrying over 21 tons of essential

0:47relief material including medicines,

0:49forensic equipment. The government of

0:51Nepal has in fact declared September 7th

0:54as a day of national mourning to honor

0:56those who lost their lives in this very

0:58disaster. Meanwhile, China has blamed

1:01global warming for the disaster, saying

1:03no country is immune to climate change.

1:04China has said that it has also been

1:06severely affected by the crossber

1:08disaster and is committed to working

1:10together to mitigate the impact of

1:12climate change. We have been in

1:14coordination with the Nepalese

1:16government and authorities and started

1:18tracking uh information about uh Indians

1:21who would be missing in this floods. Uh

1:25there were several groups of uh pilgrims

1:27who were going to Kalash Mantra Vayatra

1:29or coming back. Uh with the help of

1:31Nepali army uh we've been able to rescue

1:34166 people altogether. We've rescued uh

1:38almost about 12,000 people brought to

1:40safety including many foreign nationals.

1:43Over 4,000 people are still uh reported

1:45unaccounted for. But there is an active

1:47rescue effort going on uh and we will

1:50continue to search until uh our security

1:53agencies who are on the ground um tell

1:56us uh that u um that the chances of

2:00survival would go down. Only then we'll

2:03call off the rescue operation.
