0:06lava

0:07today i'll be reading the creature from

0:10jekyll island from the title twin series

0:12this is book

0:12three and it's written by connor boyak

0:24suit up kids it's time to get some

0:26liquid gold from our beehives mr tuttle

0:28told ethan and emily one of mr tuttle's

0:32favorite hobbies was beekeeping he and

0:35the twins

0:36had a deal where he would take care of

0:38the bees and the t

0:39twins would take care of the honey the

0:41best part

0:47it had been a productive summer

0:50their bees had worked very hard

0:52collecting nectar

0:54from all of the flowers and vegetable

0:56gardens in the neighborhood

0:58and turning it all into honey mr tuttle

1:01opened the first hive

1:02and blew some smoke inside to make sure

1:04the bees stayed

1:06calm ethan and emily helped remove

1:10the frames full of honey and carried

1:12them to the garage

1:13where they used an extractor to spin

1:16them for a while

1:17until all of the honey had come out and

1:19dripped down

1:20through the filters into the jars

1:23emily couldn't resist licking her

1:25fingers

1:27or sticking her fingers into the golden

1:29waterfall

1:31coming out from of the extractor this

1:34tastes amazing dad she said as mr tuttle

1:37smiled

1:38even though they are planning to sell a

1:41lot of the honey

1:42the tuttle family made sure to keep

1:45several jars

1:46for themselves

1:49honey is so yummy

1:53by the time they had finished grandma

1:55and grandpa tuttle had arrived

1:57they had come to town for the annual

1:59country fair

2:00and farmers market it was everyone's

2:03favorite day

2:04of the summer emily looked forward to

2:07riding

2:08the roller coaster ethan was excited to

2:10eat some cotton

2:11candy they were both excited to sell

2:13jars of honey

2:14at the farmers market booth

2:25later that day grandma and grandpa

2:29tuttle surprised the twins with a trip

2:30to the movies ethan had been

2:32begging to see the latest superhero

2:34movie at the new theater that showed

2:36movies in 3d

2:42and had seats that vibrate to make the

2:44movie feel more

2:45real at the movie theater grandpa tuttle

2:48was amazed at the price of the tickets

2:50i paid 50 cents for a movie ticket when

2:53i was your age

2:54and now it costs over 20 times that much

2:57he said

2:59can we get some popcorn asked ethan and

3:01something to drink yes

3:03emily you bet grandma tuttle replied the

3:06cashier

3:08the cash register rang up ten dollars my

3:11heavens why does everything cost so much

3:13these days

3:14she asked grandpa tuttle

3:25this night out costs a little more than

3:27we had planned

3:28grandma whispered to grandpa as they

3:30settled into their seats

3:32it's because of that wretched creature

3:34from jackal island

3:36that's why grandpa complained a little

3:39too

3:39loudly the twins overheard

3:43grandpa emily was about to ask what he

3:45meant when ethan suddenly let out a

3:48loud shout his popcorn launched into the

3:51air

3:52spilling into emily's lap

3:59as emily looked up to see what had

4:00started ethan

4:02her seat vibrated and she let on a

4:04scream of her own

4:06a real mean looking octopus had suddenly

4:08filled the movie

4:09screen and its 3d tentacles seemed to be

4:13reaching towards the twins

4:14it was only a preview for another movie

4:16and soon

4:17their own movie began but ethan and

4:20emily could not forget how startled they

4:26were

4:32mom the movie was awesome ethan told her

4:34as she tucked him into bed that night

4:36she kissed ethan goodnight and left to

4:38tuck emily in

4:40but ethan couldn't sleep

4:44he was restless still seeing that scary

4:47octopus

4:48from the movie theater in his mind

4:51he could hear his dad and grandpa tuttle

4:53talking downstairs in the dining room

4:55ethan could tell that his grandpa was

4:57upset about something

4:59he crept down the stairs to better hear

5:01what they were saying

5:03i don't know how i'm expected to make

5:05this work said grandpa

5:07my income isn't going up but the cost of

5:09everything is definitely going

5:11up i've worked hard all my life and now

5:14my savings is being stolen

5:17ethan saw his dad shake his head slowly

5:20the creature from jekyll island strikes

5:22again

5:23life would be better if it didn't exist

5:24mr tuttle said

5:26there it was again the second time ethan

5:30heard about this creature in just one

5:32day

5:33but what was it why is this creature

5:36taking grandpa's money

5:43wake up emily whispered ethan to his

5:46sister

5:46in his sister's ear as he shook her what

5:49what

5:49is it emily shuttered as she came out of

5:52a deep sleep

5:53what's wrong remember how grandpa

5:57complained about the creature from

5:58jekyll island when we were at the movies

6:00ethan said

6:01emily nodded well dad

6:04knows about it too he just talked about

6:08it downstairs

6:09what do you think it is well

6:13what have they said about it asked emily

6:16after a big yawn

6:17grandpa said that the creature is the

6:20reason why things cost more than they

6:22used to

6:24and just now he was talking about his

6:26savings being stolen

6:27dad blamed it on the creature ethan

6:30added

6:30what kind of creature needs money

6:34let's worry about it in the morning

6:36replied emily i need

6:38sleep so i have lots of energy for the

6:40roller coaster rides

6:53the title twins dreamed of the scary

6:55octopus that night

6:56ethan imagined stealing people's purses

6:59and

6:59piggy banks emily dreamt of a haunted

7:03dungeon on jackal island where a crazy

7:06scientist created a monster that grew by

7:09eating people's

7:10money

7:13the sun was beaming brightly on the

7:15fairgrounds the next morning as the

7:17tuttle family

7:18set up their booth and displayed their

7:20jars of honey for people to

7:22buy the fair was packed with people it

7:25reminded

7:26emily of the thousands of bees moving

7:29around

7:29in their hives busy at work hey neighbor

7:32said fred who was pushing a wheelbarrow

7:34of tomato crates to his booth fred was

7:37the twin's favorite neighbor

7:39and a good friend it's a great day to be

7:42in business

7:43isn't it all of those tomatoes came from

7:46your garden ethan asked fred

7:48yep these and several boxes of other

7:51vegetables fred replied

7:53i owe a lot to your bees they have been

7:55doing a great

7:56job pollinating my garden

8:04grandma i mean grandpa and grandma

8:06tuttle

8:07set up their chairs in the shade and

8:09settled in to watch

8:10ethan and emily make some sales

8:13grandpa began reading the newspaper but

8:16quickly

8:16was interrupted by emily why is the

8:19creature taking your money grandpa

8:21she asked curiously come again

8:24grandpa replied yesterday you were

8:27talking about a creature from an

8:29island that makes things cost more emily

8:31explained

8:32and last night ethan heard dad talk

8:36about the creature when you said that

8:38your savings was being

8:40stolen here we go

8:44said grandma quietly chuckling to

8:45herself youtube better sit down for this

8:48she said

8:48the twin to the twins while winking at

8:51grandpa tuttle

8:53where to begin said grandpa rubbing his

8:55hands together slowly

8:57here's a question why are you selling

9:00honey today

9:05ethan pulled a handful of money from

9:08a box and held it up to grandpa because

9:10we want more of this

9:12he said excitedly and why do you want

9:15money

9:16he asked looking at emily so

9:19oh wait and he's sorry

9:24and why do you want money he asked

9:25looking at emily you can't eat it

9:28or play with it so i can ride roller

9:32coasters she replied pointing

9:34to the sky high right across the field

9:37and get some

9:38cotton candy added ethan

9:41that money you have is called a medium

9:44of

9:44exchange it's something that we can use

9:47to trade with

9:54it's something we can use to trade with

9:56somebody

9:58for things we want and they can use it

10:01to get

10:02what they want grandpa explained but do

10:06you need

10:07but do you need to use money he asked

10:11how else will we buy things ethan

10:12replied

10:14why don't you try to trade some honey

10:15for a roller coaster ticket miss tuttle

10:17suggested

10:19offering to watch the booth for them

10:21great idea said grandpa

10:22that's what we call bartering come on

10:25let's go ask

10:29hi there grandpa said to the woman at

10:31the ticket counter

10:35we were wondering if we can barter our

10:36honey for a few roller coaster tickets

10:40oh i love honey said the woman but i'm

10:43sorry we can't accept that as a payment

10:46why didn't that work ethan asked as they

10:49walked back to the booth

10:51she even said that she loved honey why

10:53wouldn't she trade

10:54with us well imagine if everyone tried

10:58to barter for tickets replied grandpa

11:00how would a barter take his family on a

11:02ride

11:04if the roller coaster worker happened to

11:05be bald

11:08or what if the car salesman

11:12hold on one second well imagine if

11:14everyone tried to barter for tickets

11:16replied grandpa

11:17how would a barber take his family on a

11:20ride

11:21if the roller coaster worker happened to

11:23be bald

11:26or what if a car salesman tried to trade

11:28a car

11:29for tickets wow a

11:32car probably worth thousands of tickets

11:35there's no way

11:36he could use that many emily said

11:39and even if some of the roller coasters

11:41wanted a new car

11:42how would they divide it up between

11:44themselves grandpa asked

11:55but when we use money grandpa continued

11:57we don't have to worry about finding

11:59someone else who wants to

12:01barter with us it makes trading a

12:04whole lot easier for everyone okay

12:07i understand said emily but what about

12:10the creature

12:12what does that have to do with all of

12:14this

12:16one of the sneaky things the creature

12:18does it makes

12:19prices go up grandpa explained

12:22like your grandma said yesterday things

12:24cost so much more today than they did

12:27when we were your age

12:28that's the creature's fault

12:35imagine if the creature could sneak into

12:38the fairgrounds

12:39and change the cost of a ticket he added

12:43right now it's one dollar for a ticket

12:46what if the creature made each ticket

12:48cost

12:49two dollars ethan

12:52imagined the scary octopus slithering

12:55through the free air grounds

12:57late at night holding markers in its

12:59tentacles

13:00and writing new prices on everything

13:10that would be awful ethan said we'd have

13:13to sell way more honey to earn more

13:15money

13:16but i don't get it how can a creature

13:18raise prices

13:20or steal your money grandpa waited to

13:23answer while the

13:24twins sold a jar of honey to a customer

13:27for three

13:28dollars the creature isn't an actual

13:31creature grandpa explained i just call

13:34it that because it's kind of

13:36acts like one it does bad things

13:40and it usually works in secret so nobody

13:43knows what's happening

13:45the creature is really a group of

13:47powerful people

13:48some from government who control the

13:50laws

13:52and others who are bankers who control

13:55the money

14:07long ago after people realized that

14:10bartering wasn't working too well

14:12they started using different things as

14:15money grandpa explained really

14:18interesting stuff

14:19interjected grandma tuttle like

14:21seashells

14:22barley or rice imagine having to carry

14:25around

14:26a pocket of rice to pay for things at

14:29the store

14:32after that people used gold and silver

14:35right asked emily

14:36dad has lots of gold and silver coins he

14:38saves

14:39yes those medals were used as money

14:41because they aren't easy to find

14:44in the earth they are very rare they can

14:47also be melted and made into small

14:49coins if you need to spend a smaller

14:52amount grandpa replied

14:54that's why almost everyone accepted gold

14:57and silver

14:58for thousands of years he said

15:01those coins are a great medium of

15:04exchange

15:05but over time bad people began acting

15:08like the sneaky creature and stealing

15:11some of the metal

15:22there were kings who would secretly

15:24shave off

15:26edges of the coins to make new ones

15:30very good sorry grandpa tuttle

15:34explained and turned around to buy food

15:37from

15:39there were kings who would secretly

15:42shave off the edges of coins to make new

15:44ones gran patel explained and turned

15:46around to buy

15:46food and nice things with the stolen

15:50money

15:51the people wondered why they kept having

15:53less and the king and his friends kept

15:56getting more

15:57it's because they were cheating

16:00by making new money

16:05grandma tuttle found a little found a

16:08quarter and showed it to the twins

16:10eventually people noticed that when the

16:12coins started to shrink

16:14so they invented new ways to stop those

16:17in power from cheating

16:19see these ridges she asked if the metal

16:22was shaved

16:23off of the coin the bridges wouldn't be

16:26there so

16:26people would know if some of the metal

16:28had been taken

16:32ethan has always seen the little bumps

16:35on the edges of coins but now

16:37he realized they were not what they were

16:40for

16:40to tell if a coin had been shaved or not

16:42smart idea he thought

16:50but it didn't stop there grandpa said no

16:53powerful people continue to find

16:56sneakier ways

16:58to make new money and steal from

17:01hard-working people

17:02until finally they hatched the trickiest

17:06scheme of all time the story was getting

17:09exciting

17:10the twins moved closer to grandpa tuttle

17:12the year was 1910

17:15a small group of the wealthiest most

17:18powerful

17:18bankers in the world along with a couple

17:22of people in government

17:24held a secret meeting on

17:27jekyll island in georgia to plan the

17:32ultimate

17:33bank called the federal reserve this

17:37bank this creature has

17:41one main power and very

17:44a very sinister one the power to

17:47actually make

17:49unlimited amounts of new

17:52money that would be awesome shout out

17:56ethan

17:56if i can make all the money i wanted i'd

17:59be the richest person

18:00in the world that might be good for you

18:03replied miss tuttle

18:05but let me teach you why it's a bad

18:07thing for

18:08everybody else

18:18let's use that cotton candy you wanted

18:22as an example said ethan she said to

18:25ethan

18:26imagine if you were the only one left

18:29for sale

18:30i can pay one dollar for it but you

18:32created lots of new money so you can pay

18:35five dollars for it which of us do you

18:37think again

18:38the vendor will sell the cotton candy to

18:42he he'll definitely want the five

18:44dollars from me ethan replied

18:46that's right and when this happens again

18:48and again

18:51at all of the places your new money is

18:53spent prices start to go

18:54up everywhere the people that get your

18:58new money

18:58first can buy things before the prices

19:00go up but the people who don't get

19:03the new money can't buy as much anymore

19:05eventually

19:06everybody's money is worth less miss

19:09tuttle added

19:10it's called inflation

19:14well then i'd have to make even more

19:18new money ethan said jokingly

19:21you're a sneaky one aren't you grandpa

19:23tuttle said playfully

19:28that's why i mentioned the creature last

19:31night

19:32when grandpa said his savings were being

19:34stolen mr tuttle said

19:37grandpa is retired and he's not earning

19:40new money

19:41so the money he had saved up is becoming

19:44worthless

19:44every time the federal reserve makes new

19:48money emily imagined the creature

19:50grabbing

19:51poor grandpa and turning him upside down

19:54and shaking

19:55out his pockets oh

19:57[Music]

20:04i've seen a video about something like

20:06this ethan said

20:08it happened in germany right

20:12oh yes grandpa replied after world war

20:15one people would have to bring a

20:18wheelbarrow

20:18full of money just to pay for a single

20:20meal the creature in that county

20:23i mean country had created so much new

20:26money

20:26that it became worth little a little

20:30more than

20:30paper it was printed on

20:34check this out mr tuttle said pulling a

20:37piece of paper

20:38money from his wall and handing it to

20:40the twins this

20:41was printed in the country of zimbabwe

20:46right there

20:50the money said 100 trillion

20:53dollars the twins jaws dropped

20:57and their eyes bulged dad you're rich

21:00emily said mr mr tuttle laughed not

21:04really

21:04the creature in zimbabwe printed so much

21:07money

21:08that it became worthless to the people

21:11stopped that the people stopped using it

21:14it sounds like a lot of money but that's

21:16the point

21:17there's so much money being made

21:20that it couldn't actually buy very many

21:28things

21:31ethan thought it might be funny to

21:33change the booth sign to read

21:35honey 5 trillion zimbabwe dollars

21:40he giggled to himself but decided that

21:42most people wouldn't

21:44get the joke thankfully

21:47tickets for the roller coaster were

21:48still one dollar each

21:51and miss tuttle and grandma offered to

21:53watch the booth

21:54while everyone went for a ride rather

21:56than trying to barter with honey

21:58or pay with zimbabwe dollars this time

22:00grandpa paid

22:01fi with a five dollar bill and purchased

22:04a few

22:10tickets

22:12money isn't even the worst part

22:16mr tuttle stated as they got in line

22:19the bankers who met at jekyll island had

22:22friends in the government who

22:23helped pass laws that forced everyone to

22:26use the new money

22:28from the federal reserve when the

22:30government makes

22:31everyone use a certain kind of money for

22:34trade it's called

22:35fiat currency

22:39because everyone needs a medium of

22:41exchange to buy things

22:43having to use it use the creatures fiat

22:47currency

22:48gives the creature control over people

22:50and can even trick people into buying

22:52new things that they normally wouldn't

22:54buy mr tuttle added

22:56emily was doubtful how can you trick

22:59people into buying something she asked

23:11the federal reserve can make the prices

23:14go up and down by adding or taking away

23:16how much money there is grandpa

23:18explained

23:19today you're selling honey for three

23:21dollars a jar he added

23:23if the creature said it would make the

23:26price go down to 50 cents tomorrow

23:28people would buy would people buy your

23:31honey today

23:32or wait

23:35they would definitely wait to get a

23:36better deal tomorrow emily answered

23:40ethan's eyes lit up

23:43as he had his family buckled

23:46ethan's eyes lit up as he and his family

23:49buckled themselves into the roller

23:50coaster

23:51or what if the creature was going to

23:53make your honey cost ten dollars

23:55tomorrow

23:58everyone would rush to buy your honey

24:00for three dollars today before the

24:01prices went up

24:03exactly right

24:07shadow grandpa as they were flung into

24:09the air

24:16that sounds like what happened to our

24:18neighbors

24:19said mr tuttle at the end of the ride a

24:22few years ago the

24:23federal reserve made the price of homes

24:25go down

24:26so they brought several several more

24:29homes to rent

24:30to others then it made prices go

24:34up so people who needed to sell their

24:36homes couldn't find

24:37any buyers they ended up losing all the

24:40homes they had bought

24:41including their own

24:45now you see why the creature is so

24:46dangerous at its grandpa tuttle

24:49a lot of people have suffered around the

24:51world

24:52because it controls a fiat currency and

24:55causes inflation

25:07after they returned to the family's
