0:46want to put a tag on this text and teach
0:48uh from this topic uh look at the person
0:51to your left and to your right and just
0:52say I'm dealing with detours
0:56I'm dealing with
0:58detours
1:00last week I began
1:02what I thought was a one hitter quitter
1:06uh entitled I Will Survive so in essence
1:09this is a part two of that
1:12um I didn't know we were going to be in
1:13a series entitled I was that wasn't on
1:15my plan my agenda but God had other
1:18plans
1:19so so if I were to do a part two to that
1:22this this is what this is this is what
1:24this hangs on the hinges of it's I'm
1:27dealing with detours have you ever
1:29gotten yourself into something
1:31and thought after you've gotten into it
1:34this is a bad idea
1:38that's the end of the sermon I'm done
1:40take up offering yeah getting yourself
1:43into something and say this is a bad
1:46idea
1:47this very thing happened to us while on
1:50vacation we took a family vacation uh
1:53Pastor Sonia and I and the kids and we
1:55all got together we were fortunate
1:56enough uh to go to Tampa we went to
2:00Tampa we visited Busch Gardens we hadn't
2:03been to Busch Gardens in years I hadn't
2:05been since a kid so I just knew that I
2:07would enjoy taking my kids uh to Busch
2:10Gardens they would enjoy themselves at
2:12Busch Gardens we we were fortunate
2:14enough to be able to go uh to Busch
2:16Gardens we got the Busch Gardens uh and
2:19upon getting to the park uh we re we
2:22came up with the game plan because we we
2:24didn't want to just go haphazardly what
2:26was going to happen we said well what
2:28rides are we going to get on and we
2:30listed out verbally I'm getting on this
2:33ride Jay says no Kirsten says my 12 year
2:37old I'm getting on one ride okay uh Jace
2:41then goes on to say I'm getting on every
2:44ride at the park I said Jesus the Christ
2:47and daddy you come into oh Lord here we
2:51go he's getting on every ride Pastor
2:53Sonja and Kirsten have agreed they've
2:55come into agreement uh about they are
2:58what they are for one ride I said one
3:00was one ride home with one ride we get
3:02one ride all right so we get to the park
3:04uh and after register registration and
3:07all that stuff you walk through the gate
3:09we get there and we are met by something
3:11that totally surprised us we are met
3:14by something that we could not foresee
3:17we are met by something that totally
3:20took us uh from the left side it was out
3:23of the blue it was the sun amen the sun
3:27the sun the Sun not the s-o-n I'm
3:29talking about the s-u-n the the sun got
3:33me the sun he he slapped us right in the
3:35face it was Satan it was hanging out
3:37with us that day the Satan was there and
3:41the son got us so we we we started
3:43walking to uh catch on to one of these
3:45rides which why which ride are we going
3:47to get on first y'all let's let's take
3:49out the directory on the phone and it
3:51helps you walk through the park and all
3:53of this beautiful stuff let's get on
3:55this ride the Sun starts weighing down
3:58on us uh we then get to the first ride
4:02the first ride
4:04I'm excited let's do this it's time for
4:08foster family vacation
4:112022. let's go everybody's excited we
4:15get on the ride we wait in the live the
4:17anticipation the suspense is building up
4:19we get to the front of the line
4:21eventually after Jace is fighting
4:24everybody trying to skip the line we get
4:26to the front of the line it is our turn
4:29to get on the ride we get on the ride
4:31everything is going beautiful Jay says
4:33daddy we getting on every ride in this
4:35part Kirsten and Pastor Sonja says we
4:38getting on one ride and this is it so
4:40their whole trip is over after this this
4:42ride right here we get on the ride we go
4:46through the course of the ride uh after
4:49the ride everybody was looking a little
4:51lopsided every
4:54everybody was looking because we we were
4:56under the anticip under the information
4:59that this ride was a family-friendly
5:03ride because we wanted to ease our way
5:06into the roller coaster ride and
5:08experience
5:10you to look at a little bit of what we
5:12look like after that ride that we all
5:14wanted to I got yeah
5:17yeah that's my guy here this is us
5:20listen look at Pastor song and she like
5:22Jesus
5:24see it
5:25and this is us this is Jace are you all
5:28right yeah yeah he's not all right
5:32his foster family tube it's yeah Pastor
5:36Sonia said she's feeling a little
5:37lopsided in that moment that was
5:40we that that that that that
5:43describes our family vacation
5:48we drove three and a half hours
5:51to get on one ride
5:54we spent four or five hours at the park
5:56one ride
5:59after that we got on a uh Jace asked to
6:02see if there any shows that we can sit
6:04out and
6:05and just
6:07everything that we can watch that
6:09anybody juggling here and no backflips
6:12and nobody's doing
6:14we we what what what was interesting and
6:18and the I don't want you to miss the
6:20salience of that story to this sermon
6:22the salience of that story to this
6:25sermon is this we were worn down by
6:29something that we did not anticipate
6:33when we got there it was the heat that
6:37set us up for everything else it was
6:39downhill
6:41after we felt the heat on our face we we
6:45didn't see
6:47that coming
6:48we we just we we signed up for a ride
6:52we signed up to have fun
6:55I didn't know
6:56that fun would look like that I didn't
6:59know
7:00that my trip
7:01to a family vacation within in tears and
7:05beating hearts
7:07it's interesting that the heat wore us
7:10down because the environment that you
7:13place yourself in
7:15will affect the experience that you have
7:20it it was it was the environment that
7:23set us up we were we were dead meat
7:26because it's the the environment that
7:28you place yourself in will exp will will
7:31affect the experience that you have see
7:33see the ride was scary
7:38and that's one of the parts that
7:40troubled us a little bit but it was the
7:42heat that wore us down after the ride
7:45it was unexpected it was the unexpected
7:49that impacted our experience it life is
7:53a trip
7:55and on this trip called life you will
7:58encounter
7:59some detours
8:01I'm preaching already you were planning
8:03for things to go one way and then all of
8:05a sudden something happened and sent you
8:07another way you were planning to go to
8:09this school and you had prepared to go
8:12to that school but then whatever happens
8:13God maybe sent you another way to
8:16another school you were planning to take
8:18a trip to go here and then something
8:20happened in life it's okay uh and then
8:23it ended up taking us another way you
8:25thought that it would take you a certain
8:27amount of time to get to this point in
8:29life and here you are 13 years after you
8:33thought you would have already
8:34accomplished what you thought you wanted
8:35to accomplish and it still has not been
8:37accomplished you said that by the age of
8:4037 I'm going to be married two kids
8:42picket fence and a house and here it is
8:45you're 38 and wondering God would you do
8:47me a favor
8:49you you thought that once I got married
8:52that my marriage would be healthy and
8:54not dysfunctional when the reality is it
8:57seems like I've got caught unexpectedly
9:00and I've been hit with a body blow
9:02because the person that I've married is
9:04not the person that I'm with y'all ain't
9:06saying nothing it's not that it's a
9:08different person but there's another
9:09person in the person y'all ain't saying
9:11nothing I wasn't expecting this
9:13sometimes life is a trip it it it it it
9:17brings the unexpected so so so then I
9:23think about that the course and the
9:25quality of my life or of Our Lives will
9:28be greatly impacted by how we handle
9:30what we don't see coming
9:34the quality of Our Lives will be
9:36impacted by how we handle what we don't
9:37see
9:38coming how we handle the unexpected
9:42how do you deal with the detours how how
9:47the The Detour is when you are sent
9:51another way that's less familiar
9:54than the way that you are currently
9:55traveling
9:58this is interesting the the
9:59quintessential question
10:02um while you're following a course is uh
10:05do I trust the directions within the
10:09detour I don't know if you're like me
10:10when I'm driving and and I encounter a
10:13detour I almost halfway trust whoever
10:15put the signs out
10:17right because the way that the detour
10:19sends you is less familiar not that it's
10:22completely unfamiliar but it's less
10:24familiar than the travel the route that
10:25you typically travel so they say go down
10:2839th and then take a left you're like
10:30hold on I ain't never wait a minute
10:31you're looking at the houses making sure
10:33you're safe you're traveling slower when
10:36you're going through a detour
10:37you're more hesitant when you're going
10:39don't ever get behind somebody that
10:42doesn't know where they're going you
10:43some of y'all I saw y'all know 95 on the
10:45way here I'm praying
10:47there's nothing more uh troubling than
10:50being behind a person that doesn't know
10:52where they're going
10:53drive please can you turn left you got
10:57the wrong signal on
10:59you just put the right and you go
11:01that's just me that's my morning
11:04uh why why is that it's because
11:06unfamiliarity of the current course
11:09is seemingly costing us time and energy
11:14if we honest many of us I'll get to the
11:16text in a moment If we're honest many of
11:18us feel that the things that are not
11:20happening at the speed that we thought
11:22they should
11:24we feel like it's costing us something
11:27we think our slow is God's no
11:32we we think our slowest Gods no because
11:35our plans don't often include detours
11:40our plans only include destinations
11:45but the father has a Godly positioning
11:49system GPS that calculates and
11:52recalibrates what's in our best interest
11:55so the next time you see a detour
11:58instead of pouting about it I praise
12:01about it
12:03because the detour is not costing you
12:06time The Detour is actually saving you
12:09time okay
12:12we have to reframe how we see detours
12:17The Detour is not costing us time The
12:20Detour just might be saving us time if
12:23you think that a detour is costing you
12:27time I'm going to challenge that line of
12:29thinking right now
12:31okay here's the challenge if a detour is
12:34costing me time then I want you for the
12:37next time that there's a detour on the
12:39road I want you to ignore it
12:46the next time you see a sign that says
12:48construction ahead detour turn left say
12:52nope
12:56if that's the case
12:58then that means The Detour is not
13:01costing me time The Detour is
13:04potentially saving my life
13:06the problem is we pout when we think the
13:09detour is punishing us
13:12when in actuality God sends detours to
13:15prepare us
13:17and I wonder who can say God I honestly
13:20I'm gonna be honest with you I thank you
13:22for the detours you sent because I was
13:25headed all gas no breaks into a wall
13:29that I didn't see coming and because you
13:32have a Godly positioning system and
13:34you're so Sovereign you saw danger
13:36before I could and you made me go left
13:39when I wanted to go right I wanted to go
13:41to the club but you made me tired and
13:43tell them no I wanted to I wanted to
13:47sleep with them but you told me stay
13:49home tonight
13:51I got a phone call
13:55that told me let's go out to dinner when
13:57I was planning to do something dumb
13:59look at somebody say that was a detour
14:02that that was a detour The Detour
14:05is actually protection
14:08The Detour is actually protection
14:11and here's my first
14:14Shout
14:16my first
14:18shout is that yes you may have
14:21encountered a detour but the detour will
14:25not stop you from getting to your
14:28destination
14:29all right I'll come get your neighbor
14:31the reality is this yes it might have
14:34taken you longer than you thought but
14:37aren't you glad that God has kept you
14:39even in the middle of your journey there
14:43are people that started out with you
14:44that will not finish with you and you're
14:47pouting over that and you should be
14:49praising or is there anybody that can
14:51say God I thank you for sending me the
14:54long way around that there's
14:57there's something about going the long
14:59way the children of Israel Exodus 13 are
15:02the children of Israel were complaining
15:04because a journey that should have taken
15:06a few weeks was ended up taking them a
15:09whole bunch of years and they was like
15:11listen what's going on the Bible says
15:13that God did not lead them into a Canaan
15:16the straight way the scripture says that
15:18God let them the long way around because
15:21if they would have saw War they would
15:23have been afraid and they would have
15:25turned around and went back the reality
15:28is sometimes God takes us the long way
15:30because there's something in front of us
15:32that we're not ready to face
15:36and we can't be in a rush to get there
15:38so fast
15:42look at somebody and say slow down slow
15:44down I just want to go okay Bobby Vee
15:47sorry y'all Church ain't saved
15:50slow down
15:54there is something to be said
15:57about the detour
15:59The Detour is not punishment
16:02The Detour
16:03is protection
16:05The Detour is not punishment
16:08detour
16:09protection don't power because of the
16:12detour because you don't know what God
16:14is protecting you from
16:16sometimes God will let them break your
16:19heart
16:20so that he can blow your mind
16:23you think it's a detour God say that's
16:26protection
16:27sometimes God will let them fire you
16:30because you won't quit
16:32and you think it's a detour God say
16:34that's protection
16:38I got a word I got a word for somebody
16:40you're still gonna get there though
16:43you're still gonna get there though it
16:46might take longer than you thought but
16:47you're still gonna get there your heart
16:49will be stronger because you took the
16:51long way around you didn't jump right
16:53into something even though you were
16:54still broken from something y'all ain't
16:56saying nothing
16:58it is
17:00it is Paul and Silas that finds
17:02themselves
17:04Dropped In The Middle
17:06of a detour
17:08they're in the middle of a dramatic
17:10dilemma Paul and Cyrus Silas on this
17:13missionary journey I'm almost done give
17:15me seven minutes and I'm done they're on
17:17this missionary journey and a young girl
17:19uh with uh with the spirit of divination
17:22you feel a real deep word that's your
17:24fortune teller and she would follow Paul
17:27and Silas as they were getting up
17:28heading to the place of prayer acts acts
17:3116. they were getting up heading to the
17:33place of prayer and she would follow
17:35them antagonizing them saying that these
17:38men are trying to teach us the way of
17:40the Lord and these men are coming in the
17:43way of God and the that she was
17:45spreading all of this dissension amongst
17:48people because they knew uh she knew
17:50that that would cause a rise in a lot of
17:53people here's what's interesting it was
17:54the girl that was possessed with the
17:56demon
17:57it was a girl that was possessed with a
17:59demon but she was running after Paul and
18:01Silas this is interesting she was
18:03running after people that can help them
18:05maybe maybe just maybe some of the
18:07people that are getting on our nerves
18:08the most actually are crying out for
18:10help
18:12she calling me
18:18what
18:20yes girl
18:22he did what
18:25he did
18:27he did that yesterday
18:31and she was CR she was following after
18:34Paul and Silas she might not have known
18:37it but they had something she needed
18:39so then maybe there was a part of her
18:41that was crying out for healing
18:47she followed them every day
18:50she followed them every day until Paul
18:53got upset one day y'all pray for Paul
18:55Paul got a I gotta pass the Paul got me
18:57and Paul got something in common Paul
18:59said listen now wait hold on it's acts
19:0116. and he turns around
19:04cast The Demon out of her
19:07and it is then when the Masters the
19:10people who were making money off of her
19:12her demon
19:14who were manipulating her
19:16who were taking advantage of her it was
19:18then when they spoke up now that's
19:21interesting when she was doing what you
19:24wanted her to do you had nothing to say
19:26now when she got free then you open your
19:29mouth
19:30some people are waiting on your
19:31Liberation to stop their conversation
19:33y'all
19:36it is when she got free
19:41that they had something to say
19:43that's interesting now when I was doing
19:46what you wanted me to do you were quiet
19:49now that God has freed me some of y'all
19:53know what that's like you start going to
19:54church and your friends think you think
19:56that you're better than them you know I
19:57never said that I I I'm not better than
20:00you I'm just free
20:06one day
20:08uh Paul cast The Demon out of her right
20:12and then here's what happens
20:16she begins to be to act in a more
20:19liberated fashion the Masters the people
20:21manipulating her uh notice this
20:25they then
20:27quickly gather together a mob the verse
20:30we read gather a mob together and they
20:33began to make claims against Paul and
20:37Silas they began to beat
20:40Paul and Silas they began uh to
20:44humiliate
20:45Paul and Silas why because they were
20:48doing the Lord's work have you ever felt
20:51like following God has gotten you into
20:54some trouble
20:56yeah I feel like like Lord since I'm on
20:59my way to prayer I mean I should be okay
21:01I'm on the way to church I shouldn't
21:04have I mean what's I'm not bothering
21:06anybody it was maybe I don't know we're
21:09just talking maybe it was there a yes
21:12that got them into it
21:16maybe it was their Yes to God they got
21:18that that made men want to say no to
21:21them maybe it was it was their obedience
21:24or their pursued obedience towards God
21:26that caused people to now look at them
21:29I'm going somewhere I need you to hang
21:31on to this because what happens is we
21:33see Paul in silence after they beaten
21:35after they're whipped they are thrown
21:37into a detour I mean jail they they are
21:40thrown into jail there's three types of
21:42detours that we got to deal with maybe
21:44we'll unpacked it we'll see three types
21:46of detours there are decisional detours
21:48there are demonic detours and then there
21:52are Divine detours
21:54their decisional detours okay let me see
21:57let me see where the real side is I'm
21:59gonna stand right here in the middle and
22:00see which side is the real side okay see
22:03the rear side all right
22:04all right who has ever dealt with some
22:07decisional detours this is detours that
22:10I chose it I made the decision I weighed
22:14it out and I chose what I chose and now
22:18I'm dealing with the consequences of
22:20something I chose devil didn't make me
22:22do it
22:23it's me if you're dealing with if you've
22:25ever dealt with decisional detour both
22:27my hands and air slip your hands in the
22:29air wave them okay we gotta we got an
22:31honest Church all right cool cool cool
22:32so so decisional detours has to be taken
22:37um you have to take ownership of it
22:38before you can move on from it
22:41right the worst thing you can do in the
22:43decision or detour is say well it's not
22:45my fault
22:48Pastor it ain't my fault she she I
22:51didn't know she was this person before I
22:52married her
22:55it's at least three percent of it your
22:57fault
22:58because you picked her
23:06but you picked him you know
23:09it's it's it's at least two percent
23:12let's go two percent
23:14two percent like the milk it's at least
23:16two percent
23:18your fault
23:20because you chose it
23:24maybe maybe some of our decisional
23:26detours are due to our appetite
23:31maybe we like the wrong stuff
23:35it's quiet in here we can go back to
23:38shouting in a moment just play some
23:40Shout music and so there's that maybe
23:43just maybe
23:45is our appetite that has us in a detour
23:49maybe we like stuff we should like
23:53Maybe
23:56indulge me maybe it's the appetite maybe
24:00you know they aren't good for you but
24:02I like it
24:06oh it's quiet
24:09maybe maybe there was a soundtrack
24:11playing in the back of your mind and
24:14maybe you saw the red flags I'm not just
24:16talking about relationships I'm just
24:17talking just in general it can be
24:19business it can be Church it can be
24:20whatever oh I just crept up on Bay Bay
24:25Bay
24:27Bay
24:31what if don't leave the church y'all
24:33what if some of this church hurt that's
24:35so pervasive
24:37it's not the church's fault
24:40maybe our appetites aren't right
24:47maybe it's our appetite that has Us in
24:50The Detour spiritually
24:53it's decision to detour
24:55because when you get some of what you
24:57you don't get to control how much of
24:58what you get when you decide something
25:02so you can't you can't what's the word
25:05you can't uh Park chai it out or a chart
25:09pie chart it out there we go
25:11you can't compartmentalize how much you
25:13get of something when you decide
25:14something
25:15so if I say I'm I'm giving myself to my
25:18wife and I want her I don't get to
25:20determine how much of her she gives to
25:22me
25:22I just get to determine whether or not
25:24she's going to give me all of her
25:26I just have to be in a place to receive
25:28whatever it is that she wants to eat so
25:29I gotta move decisional then there is
25:32demonic
25:34now this the one
25:37demonic demonic detours are Satan
25:40induced
25:43the enemy is is the kill still and
25:45Destroy he he's on his ministry he's on
25:48this uh threefold Ministry he he is
25:50strategic about what he wants to do in
25:52our lives he is plotting scheming
25:54planning strategizing he's coming up
25:57with ways he's trying to figure out how
25:59he can get us to sit in us in a detour
26:02that that is the the aim that is the
26:04goal of the enemy y'all with me that is
26:07the aim of the enemy the aim of the
26:09enemy is to get us to sit in a detour to
26:12stay in a detour to the fact that we
26:14feel like The Detour is our state
26:17and not just a phase
26:19he wants us to think that the detour is
26:21a state and not a season
26:25so there's demonic detours there there
26:27is spiritual warfare I don't care some
26:29people try to minimize spiritual world
26:32you don't minimize it is real Jesus
26:34talking more about spiritual warfare
26:35than many other things that it's real
26:37demons are real there is a real devil
26:40come on somebody I feel like there is a
26:42real devil with real demons now here's
26:46the shout the real the reality is even
26:48though he's real my God ghetto is realer
26:51y'all ain't saying nothing
26:55look at somebody and say my God is
26:57realer
27:01don't tell nobody I learned that
27:02expression
27:03and then I got to get into my taste I'm
27:05gonna skip a lot but and then there's
27:07Divine detours now here's the one that
27:10needs some some explicating Divine
27:12detours uh Divine detours are are savior
27:17sent detours
27:20that means that means the devil didn't
27:22do it God did
27:25now here's the issue sometimes if you're
27:28honest we don't know who did what
27:30and we're praying like God get me out of
27:33this because God I believe you and I
27:35know that you can do anything but fail
27:37and God move and God restore and God
27:40says no I got you in it you're good I
27:43like you like that you pray more when
27:45you're going through I like you like
27:46that you worship when you're going
27:48through so I keep you in a place
27:52where I can hear from you
27:56so the detour is not Satan's sin is save
27:59your sin
28:01he said I want to keep you right there
28:04because when you're right there you
28:07go man I don't have to I don't have to
28:10pump your heart about nothing
28:12pray about what shoes you should wear
28:15you don't answer the phone without
28:17praying
28:18I mean you like God should I wear a red
28:20jacket or a blue one I won't do nothing
28:22outside of your will
28:24God so
28:25and he's like I like this version of you
28:28so I'll send a detour
28:30not to destroy you
28:32but to cultivate something on the inside
28:33of you
28:36no I didn't send it to kill you now
28:38don't get it twisted just to cultivate
28:39something
28:41so so there are Divine detour that's the
28:44part of Christianity that people have
28:46difficulty with sometimes that God yes
28:48God's plans are 100 to prosper us
28:52100 percent
28:54but we don't know what it takes for us
28:56to get prospered
29:02wait wait yes no
29:05like probably then we want to tell God
29:07how to do it too so that's that
29:09um I want to get into
29:13oh give me seven seven minutes watch
29:15this
29:16seven more
29:18right so sometimes we don't know who
29:21sent the detour
29:22sometimes it's difficult to discern the
29:24detours Paul last week part two Paul was
29:30Shipwrecked on his way to Rome
29:32he was a prisoner on his way to Rome and
29:35got Shipwrecked now before all of that
29:37acts 27 he get a prophecy and he has a
29:40desire before God to go to Rome to take
29:43the gospel Paul did not anticipate the
29:45way in which he was going to get to Rome
29:47was as a prisoner and then Get
29:49Shipwrecked
29:51but it was when he got to Malta
29:54that when he got to Malta was the time
29:57when he was able to be bit by the snake
29:59that's a part of my detour yeah he got
30:02bit by the snake but he didn't die and
30:03then the people that saw him were more
30:06open to hear about the gospel and it's
30:08because Paul was Shipwrecked at Malta
30:11that the entire land heard the gospel
30:14and were saved so maybe the detour has
30:16nothing to do with you
30:20maybe maybe maybe the detour has
30:24something to do with God's plan
30:26so Paul got Shipwrecked okay a shipwreck
30:29um and and and and and he didn't start
30:33blaming the devil
30:36for Wrecking the ship
30:40he didn't say the devil did it
30:42maybe what if we give we give the devil
30:45more credit
30:46for what God is constructing
30:50maybe maybe we got to wait it out a
30:52little bit
30:54so so God uses detours to protect us and
30:58to redirect us here's what's interesting
31:00here oh my goodness oh my goodness
31:02almost I almost lost it when I thought
31:03about this God will use your detour
31:07as a detox
31:13God will use your detour as a detox
31:17there are some things that God wants to
31:20get out of us
31:21and the way in which he chooses to get
31:24it out of us is not the means that we
31:27think God says I'm taking you the long
31:30way because there are some things in you
31:32that will potentially
31:35potentially hinder what I have for you
31:38so if you're not ready for what I'm
31:41trying to get you ready for and you
31:43think you're ready for it and I know
31:44you're not ready for it God says I got
31:46to get you ready for what I already have
31:48ready for are you ready for what God is
31:51trying to say to you God is saying that
31:53I want to prepare you
31:55for the promise
31:57because if I don't prepare you the
31:58blessing becomes a burden
32:01I want to get you ready for what you're
32:03believing God for
32:06God allowed them to be sent to jail
32:09I'm done three and a half minutes he
32:11allowed them to be sent to jail
32:13and the question becomes while it is
32:15that they're in jail
32:17or while it is that you're in uh in the
32:19in the middle of a detour in the middle
32:21of a place that you don't necessarily
32:22desire you did not plan
32:24what is your disposition in the detour
32:30what is your disposition okay let's look
32:34at the scripture Paul let's look at Paul
32:36and silas's disposition and around
32:38midnight
32:40Paul and Silas were praying and singing
32:43hymns to God and they and the other
32:46prisoners were listening that they that
32:48their disposition was praise
32:52they were in jail
32:54but praising hmm they they were in
32:58Chains but praising Lord have mercy they
33:01were in the Inner Cell but praising they
33:05were locked with with chains on their
33:08feet chains on their hands meaning they
33:10cannot move at the pace that they want
33:12to move they cannot do the things that
33:14they want to do they are in Chains but
33:17their disposition in the middle of the
33:19detour is praise here's my point my
33:21point is you can either allow you a
33:23chains to break your praise or you can
33:26allow your praise to break your chains I
33:29wonder if there's anybody that can say
33:31yes I might be bound to some things but
33:34I tell you one thing my chains will
33:36never break my praise I bro bless God
33:39regardless of what I'm going through
33:40regardless of what it looks like
33:43there there's something I'm almost done
33:46there's something to be saying so so so
33:48so they are um yeah suddenly verse
33:52number 25 there was a massive earthquake
33:56in the prison
33:58was shaking
34:01all the doors immediately flew open
34:04and the chains of every prisoner
34:08fell off
34:09maybe the detour
34:11in for you
34:13the chains of every prisoner fell off
34:18their praise induced liberation
34:21so so it was not only that their chains
34:26fell off of every prisoner
34:28then the Jailer which was one of the
34:31ones that was in charge of putting Paul
34:32and Silas in jail and watching them
34:34potentially one of the ones that beat
34:37them
34:40charged to watch over them
34:43once the chains fell off of Everybody he
34:46got worried
34:47because in that context if a Jailer is
34:50if a prisoner escaped on your clock
34:52you did
34:54they're killing you
34:55cause you let them go
34:58right so so the text says once the the
35:01walls came down the chains were on loose
35:04the the Jailer then told pulls out his
35:07sword to kill himself because he knew
35:10that they would they would punish him
35:12that he knew that they would take his
35:14very life so he says I guess I'm not
35:16gonna let y'all do it I don't want to go
35:17through the punishment I'm just going to
35:18I'm going to end my own life the Jailer
35:21is is suicidal
35:26the Jailer is suicidal
35:29and I'm tripping because I gotta go I'm
35:32tripping because the chains are off
35:35the walls are down
35:37the door is open
35:40Paul
35:41leave
35:45silence y'all are innocent
35:49there's your out
35:53why are you staying there
35:59come on y'all keeping 100 the door is
36:02open you're you're wrongfully imprisoned
36:04here is your chance to get out even if
36:06you guilty you're like I'm out of here
36:07so imagine not doing it
36:11I'm out of here in Jesus name you have
36:14to forgive me for this one
36:17Paul Silas leave
36:21the door is open
36:24but maybe they understood that every
36:25Open Door ain't worth walking through
36:31maybe walking through some doors cost
36:34you something
36:40maybe maybe some platforms cost you more
36:43than they can provide
36:46maybe some circles you're trying to get
36:48in you don't understand them people
36:49don't even really like each other
36:53oh Jesus leave why don't you just leave

37:05whipped you've been humiliated all for
37:08the cause of Christ and you telling me
37:10you can't leave man you crazy if it was
37:12me I would have been left Paul is like I
37:14can't leave why didn't you leave why
37:16Paul why won't you just leave I can't
37:18leave because it ain't about me
37:22there's somebody here
37:25that's suicidal
37:27he's thinking about taking his own life
37:30if I run out
37:32what happens to him
37:37he says
37:38he says the Jailer the text says the
37:40Jailer two pulls the sword out and he's
37:43just about to cut his own throw
37:46and Paul yells out wait don't do it
37:52stop y'all go back and read it Paul yeah
37:55stop it
37:57stop don't kill yourself
38:00we are all here
38:04help me understand
38:06how Paul could control every prisoner in
38:08there
38:10what kind of influence did Paul have
38:13that the prisoners that had been in
38:15there didn't move
38:17because they was waiting on Paul
38:20What if Paul would have never went
38:25they didn't move
38:26I'm not just talking about Paul I'm
38:28talking about believers
38:30us
38:31do you understand the influence we have
38:34I see the prisoners as culture
38:37the culture didn't even move
38:39because we didn't move
38:41instead of trying to be like the
38:43prisoners Paul said no I'm y'all gonna
38:45have to try and be like me
38:47I'm gonna stay right here
38:49don't kill yourself
38:51we are all here he says
38:53what you mean the Jailer what you mean
38:55we're all here
38:57what do you mean we're all here
39:01Paul then goes to him and shares the
39:04gospel
39:05with him
39:07picture this
39:09the person that had me in Chains
39:12Paul says I'm sharing the gospel with
39:14him
39:19he shares the gospel
39:21and the Jailer asks a question
39:24the jealous is what must I do
39:28save
39:29cause y'all there's something different
39:30about you
39:33there's something different
39:36not only did the Jailer get saved
39:39y'all go back and read it
39:41but the jail the entire household
39:44they went back to his house
39:48he went back to his house in his whole
39:49his entire house
39:52I got saved
39:55all because of a detour
39:57that they didn't deny
40:02all because of a detour
40:05that they said Okay God if this way you
40:07got me okay
40:09all right it's dark in here it's
40:11unfamiliar in here
40:13I'm gonna act like I love being here
40:18I'm not gonna say I love this job say
40:21that
40:22but you know God I see your hand moving
40:25and
40:26and I'll be here
40:28I'm not gonna say I love everything
40:30that's happening
40:31but at the same time I'm here
40:34and if God this is where you have me
40:35right now
40:36I'm not going to complain about it I'm
40:38not going to pout about it
40:39I'm going to realize that maybe you're
40:41sick you're protecting me from something
40:42I don't even see
40:46maybe the detour is protection
40:50I want to pray
40:54for anybody
40:56like me who says you know what I
40:59I know what it feels like to be dealing
41:01with the detour
41:03to feel like God is moving me around
41:07to feel like God is literally
41:10taking me the long way around
41:13to feel like I gotta watch people
41:18What I Know I Can Do Better
41:20than them at
41:24to feel like I'm brighter than my boss
41:28smarter than my supervisor but I'm not
41:31the one in charge
41:33and it feels like this is detour this is
41:37not
41:38what you told me
41:41I got a word for you
41:44maybe God says I got you there
41:46as protection
41:48I'm not punishing you you're okay you're
41:50good
41:53I'm pruning you and I'm proving you
41:56that there's something on the inside of
41:58you
42:01and when you get to
42:03what I have for you
42:07you're gonna do something watch this he
42:09says I'm gonna do something with you
42:10that eyes have not seen
42:13that ears have not heard
42:16all because you embraced
42:19The Detour
42:20you didn't try to escape it you didn't
42:22try to evade it you stood up and you
42:25went every day and you said okay here we
42:27go

42:35you you endured The Detour when you
42:37wanted to cry you wouldn't do it the
42:39detour when you wanted to quit you
42:40wanted to walk away and God says no no
42:43just right there stay right there I got
