0:01Oh my god.
0:04You can see I'm really struggling with
0:05the lights right now because I want to
0:07receive direct
0:09sunlight, and the sun is like leaving
0:12me. If I go like this, you can't really
0:14see the sun. When I come like this, you
0:16can't see me through the sunlight.
0:19Annyeonghaseyo. Welcome back to my
0:20YouTube channel. It's your girl Pela. I
0:22know it's literally been a very long
0:24time. And I was going to be using my
0:25back camera for this video, but I really
0:27do not know
0:29what made me to use my back camera. It's
0:32actually came out without no audio. So,
0:34I'm really scared of my back camera. In
0:36as much as it actually has more quality
0:39than my phone camera. But, we're going
0:40to do this like this today.
0:42So, as the name implies, for this video
0:44we're going to be talking about my
0:46language study plan. And
0:48since I made a video like this before, I
0:51actually made a very detailed video of
0:52my language study plan earlier. And
0:56as God would want it, it didn't get
0:58released. So, I have to make another one
1:00today. Similarly,
1:02coincidentally,
1:04the KS 2027 on the
1:06guidelines got out today. And
1:10it's like
1:12drum rolls.
1:13So, for this video I'm talking about my
1:15language study plan. And it is much more
1:17significant because I already studied
1:21two semesters of language here. So, I
1:22can simply tell you this is what I wish
1:25I knew, is what I wish I did not know,
1:28and
1:28that that makes sense.
1:30This is what I wish I knew while I was
1:34writing my essays. And if I would change
1:36anything right now. So, let's start off
1:39strong.
1:42I I actually
1:43>> [clears throat]
1:43>> a lot of you have been asking me, "Pela,
1:46when are you going to release a YouTube
1:47video? When are you going to do it?"
1:49Calm down, baby girl. Calm down, baby
1:51boy.
1:52So, so, so, I literally have my
1:57my
1:58phone here, and I'm going to read it in
1:59my language plan for you. And as you
2:02can't see, of course you can see, this
2:04green inner
2:05form and this is how short the essay was
2:07from here to here. And something just
2:09came out so good. I literally just saw
2:12that this year you can actually write
2:14your personal statement to be three
2:16pages and study plan to be three pages.
2:19That's so awesome. But anyways, dealing
2:21with my personal statement and I already
2:23wrote my personal statement for you
2:24guys.
2:25And now we're going to
2:27talking about study plan.
2:30So let's without further further ado,
2:32let's get into the video.
2:35So this is study plan session for
2:37material and language study plan. Study
2:39plan to improve Korean stroke English
2:42language ability required for taking a
2:45degree course before and after you come
2:47to Korea.
2:49So first of all,
2:51whatever I did right here, I will tell
2:53you that
2:54one of the things I really point out is
2:56the fact that
2:57when you before you come into before
2:59coming to Korea, you would think that
3:01topic is very easy. Topic is extremely
3:03not very easy. So that's one thing that
3:04you should want to be conscious about.
3:07Among everything I did right here, one
3:09of the things I'm like, "Hello, are you
3:10tripping?" was my topic topic. I was
3:13like, "I'm going to get a good grade in
3:146 months. Topic 6 in whatever blah blah
3:17blah." It shouldn't be like you
3:19shouldn't be like you don't have to aim
3:20high when you're writing your study
3:22plan, but they're not actually asking
3:24you to
3:25logically know everything that will
3:27happen. They will want to see that you
3:29have an understanding of what you're
3:30going to do by the time you come here.
3:32Simply that's what they're asking you
3:33for. So let's get right into the study
3:36plan meeting. So the first paragraph I
3:39wrote here is it had 1 2
3:423 4 four paragraphs and we reviewed it
3:46them and just like my previous essays,
3:49I'm going to explain why I'm reading
3:50them.
3:52So the first paragraph I wrote is try to
3:55listen properly.
3:56Recognizing the infected
3:59Recognizing that effective communication
4:01is vital to our connect with academic
4:02success and cultural adaptation, I'm
4:05fully committed to mastering Korean in
4:08preparation for my degree program.
4:10First off,
4:12I began studying Korean early in 2004
4:15using Duolingo and how to study
4:18korean.com to master Hangeul and build a
4:21strong foundation in grammar and
4:22vocabulary.
4:24First off, consistent practices with
4:26these resources alongside cultural
4:28classes helped me establish a steady
4:30self-study routine. So, our life is
4:33always saved by the fact that when I was
4:34writing my essay, one of the things I
4:35was very cautious about is the fact that
4:38you know, you can't write everything in
4:41one place. If you should try writing
4:42about how I used Duolingo, what I
4:44learned, how I learned that it is good
4:46and all that, you would not have enough
4:48enough spaces. So, I ensure that each of
4:50the things I wrote in my essay were
4:52actually strategic. Do you understand?
4:55They were strategic and
4:57the first thing I want to talk about is
4:59the fact that
5:00my first line was my attitude to Korean
5:02language.
5:03You see, don't kill yourself. You don't
5:05There's no book that you would tell me
5:06that oh, I love Korean language so much.
5:09I
5:11It's so By the time some of you are
5:14still learning kamsahamnida, and then I
5:15say you think that Korean actually
5:17passed that one. I actually studied
5:18Korean.
5:19First thing you want to emphasize is the
5:21fact that you have an attitude towards
5:23Korean language. You have curiosity
5:25towards Korean language. And how do you
5:27express it? I literally express it in my
5:29own way by telling them that this is the
5:32reason why I I believe strongly in my
5:33ability to learn Korean language because
5:37effective communication is vital to my
5:39academic academic success and my
5:41cultural adaptation. There are two
5:43things that they are very very, when I
5:45say very very cautious about. They want
5:47to know that you're going to adapt
5:49properly and they don't want to know
5:50that you're going to success
5:52in your academics. Succeed in academics,
5:54major. So, I wrote the first line
5:57telling them that I recognize that this
6:00ability to
6:01to learn Korean language is going to
6:03help me in my academic and Korean
6:05adaptation and all that. So, I am fully
6:07committed to mastering Korean. It's not
6:10just
6:11One of the things I really want to point
6:12out also is the fact that you're not
6:14learning Korean just because you're
6:16coming to Korea. You're really learning
6:17Korean because it is what's going to aid
6:19in your degree or whatever you're going
6:21to study in. So, mastering Korean
6:23preparation of my degree program.
6:25Then, you start with the resources and
6:27when you started. Because I actually
6:29have so many plans into improve Korean
6:31ability required for taking a degree
6:33course.
6:35So, I started by saying that I began
6:36studying Korean in 2024. I gave me
6:39context. I really applied in summer. I
6:41said the fact that one year but I
6:43started learning Korean through Duolingo
6:46and has a grammarly.com website, which
6:48helped me improve [clears throat] my
6:49what?
6:51Hangul and foundation in Korean. The
6:54next paragraph was in April 2024,
6:58I took on the challenge of preparing for
7:00topic topic one exam using resources
7:02from topicguide.com.
7:04I constantly practice past questions
7:07guided with Professor Yoon's YouTube
7:09lectures.
7:11Lectures and podcasts, which
7:12significantly strengthened my listening,
7:14reading skills, and understanding of the
7:16topic exam structure.
7:18I later enrolled in the King Sejong
7:19Institute beginner curriculum, gaining
7:22both structured learning,
7:25training, and cultural insights through
7:27interactive online classes.
7:30Taking the King Sejong Institute
7:31placement test and the topic exam
7:33highlighted areas that required me that
7:35required more focus, which I addressed
7:38by incorporating Korean grammar in use,
7:41and Talk to Me in Korean level one to
7:43nine into my study routine.
7:46Do you notice that integration?
7:49I explained the fact that all these were
7:50I used and these were I used. Then after
7:53a while, I went to the perfect to be
7:55exam, this is what I used and
7:57resources you don't just take what
8:00you take like 10 resources and you not
8:02expect the fact that all these have
8:03helped me. Do you understand? Nothing I
8:06I really I was really intentional about
8:08the fact that I I expressed the fact
8:11that I was self-aware.
8:13You don't just say oh I'm a self-aware
8:14person. These are things that you use to
8:16express the fact that you're self-aware.
8:18I had because when I my I got a level
8:21one in the big exam and the least was my
8:23was it speak
8:25speaking there.
8:27I think in my list was like reading. Oh,
8:29I think my list was
8:31listening or reading, I don't remember.
8:33But I knew that one of the things that
8:35really stood out to me was the fact that
8:37I had a very low grammar span. My
8:39grammar in Korean was low. So, I really
8:43took on these resources and told them
8:45the fact that I was self-aware that I
8:47have cramps, I had I had discrepancies
8:50in my I lost what's in my grammar
8:53memorization. So, I actually had to add
8:55resources to help me
8:57in these areas.
8:59Then after talking about that, then I
9:01said currently notice integration.
9:04Currently, I sustain daily engagements
9:07through journaling, translating short
9:09text, and reading Korean articles to
9:11reinforce comprehension.
9:14I also teach beginner grammar to peers
9:16which strengthen my recall and
9:17communication.
9:19To prepare for life in Korea beyond
9:20language, I am also engaging with
9:22cultural texts such as Sketches of Korea
9:25and Illustrated Guide to Korean Culture
9:28to deepen my understanding of the Korean
9:31society.
9:33This ongoing preparation ensures I will
9:36approach
9:37I will approach the one year intensive
9:39language program with resilience, ready
9:41to adapt quickly, succeed, and achieve
9:44my goal.
9:47All right, so.
9:49So, then let's move on. This is my two
9:51paragraph where I talked about my
9:52attitude to Korean language learning.
9:55My attitude to Korean language the
9:58resources I used and what I gained from
10:00the resources.
10:01Then, I talked about the fact that I was
10:03self-aware, so I didn't add I didn't add
10:05other resources based on what I had I
10:08had to say about my my Korean language
10:10journey. So, just let me list the
10:12resources I used. I used I used this, I
10:14used that, I used that. You have to
10:16develop an integration of how you
10:17progress. You did not just start
10:18learning Korean yesterday and you are
10:20adding 10 resources. Do you understand?
10:22All right, good.
10:24Then,
10:25the third paragraph, which is after
10:27coming to Korea.
10:29Upon arriving in Korea, my goal is to
10:30reach Topic level four within 6 months
10:33and level six within a year.
10:35Fulfilling and exceeding my degree
10:37requirements. You know why this was
10:38important? Because it showed that I was
10:41aware of my degree requirements, which
10:43was level four, and I intend to not only
10:46fulfill it and also succeed it. It does
10:49not just show ambition, but it shows
10:51ambition with vision. The difference
10:54between you are having ambition and when
10:55you are just
10:57exaggerating. So.
11:01I will attend and participate actively
11:03in my classes from 1:00 9:00 a.m. to
11:051:00 p.m. I was just tripping. The first
11:06one was 9:20 to 1:20.
11:10>> [gasps]
11:10>> First of 9:30 to 1:20. So, I was like,
11:13okay. I think I found this online, so.
11:16They're actually almost the same thing,
11:17though. Yeah, I was like, yeah.
11:20So, if you are applying to Korean
11:21university, you can just say this thing.
11:23Dedicated additional hours to self-study
11:26using various resources and self
11:29and structured topic prep materials. My
11:32Smeal does I'm doing this right now. So,
11:33it's like, "Okay."
11:34>> [clears throat]
11:37>> My speaking skills have been limited.
11:39Yeah.
11:40I want to mention this much later right
11:42now.
11:44Let's finish this paragraph first. My
11:46speaking skills have been limited. To
11:49enhance fluency, I am deeply
11:51enthusiastic about engaging in cultural
11:54exchange programs, Korean speech
11:56contests, and daily conversation with
11:58locals.
11:59Study groups and paying interaction will
12:01further improve my communication.
12:05>> [clears throat]
12:05>> The academic environment will also help
12:07me strengthen my English fluency through
12:10collaboration with global professors,
12:14assisting case in academic translations,
12:17and participating in international
12:19conferences that refine my public public
12:21speaking and professional vocabulary.
12:25This is what the third paragraph where I
12:27explain Oh, this is my goal of language.
12:30Yeah. So, I mentioned the fact that I
12:31intend to get a level four within six
12:33months and level six within one year. I
12:35should advise you right now.
12:37It's not bad to actually aim high cuz
12:39this actually got me through the
12:41evaluation. However, you should
12:43understand that topic exam is actually
12:44very difficult and it's not really like
12:48Do you understand? So, if you want to
12:49exaggerate and you want to like post
12:50ambition, it's not something that a lot
12:52of you like writing this thing. I will
12:53get to topic six within six months. You
12:55want to show that you're ambitious.
12:56Please don't do that. I should be
12:57allowed to. Don't do that.
12:59You can just write, "I'm going to get to
13:01topic six or I need No. Topic four
13:04within like after my one language
13:05one-year language course." Cuz that's
13:06like theoretical things that you need to
13:08do.
13:09Do you understand? And also,
13:12I want to emphasize the fact that
13:14learning a language has different
13:16categories. You have to kiss the key my
13:18huggy eeky like we listening, reading,
13:22writing.
13:25Speaking. Yeah. Majayo. So, you have
13:28four parts and you want to understand
13:29the fact that these four parts doesn't
13:31grade together. Your Korean language
13:33journey might have
13:34you might be good at it, but you're not
13:36good at speaking. You're good at
13:38speaking, you're not good at writing.
13:39You're good at Like you want to make
13:42You might be good at different things at
13:44different levels. Everything doesn't
13:45grade together. So, for this particular
13:47essay, I actually pointed out the fact
13:49that because you don't want to just
13:51mention
13:52mention that, "Oh, from 9:00 to 8:00 I'm
13:55going to
13:56From 9:00 to 10:00 I will do
13:58speaking. From this time to this time I
14:00will do this and
14:02You cannot mention every single thing at
14:03one time. And that's how you literally
14:06don't have space writing relevant
14:07because you're you're wasting your space
14:09writing irrelevant thing. Eventually, I
14:11advise you pick out a section of the
14:14Korean language and language your
14:16language journey and emphasize on how
14:18you're going to improve it.
14:20Right? If you want to improve your
14:22writing more, explain how you're going
14:24to improve your writing while you're
14:26studying. Like how I explained I'm going
14:27to improve my my speaking. That was the
14:29only point what part I pointed out when
14:31I actually
14:33Cuz I emphasized the fact that my
14:35speaking was the least improved part of
14:38my Korean journey. I had learned how to
14:40self-study for writing, listening, and
14:45um writing, listening, and listening and
14:47what's the last one? Writing, listening,
14:49and reading. However, my speaking was
14:52actually very down, so I talk about how
14:55I'm going to improve my speaking. So,
14:57you don't have to mention every single
14:58thing at the same time for your
15:00improvement
15:01for your improvement journey. You do not
15:03have to do that. If you want to pick two
15:05out of the four, pick two. Mention
15:08clearly how you're going to improve
15:09those things.
15:10Then having an acknowledge that you do
15:12know what you're doing, it then reflects
15:15on the rest things on the rest parts of
15:17learning
15:18in your Korean language journey. I hope
15:20that makes sense. I know you hate the
15:22noise.
15:24So, for the magic mark, for the last
15:25paragraph, this is what I wrote.
15:28Throughout my degree program,
15:31I will continue refining my Korean
15:34through academic translations, clinical
15:36interviews, and cultural immersion
15:38programs.
15:40Since precise language is critical for
15:43patient
15:45safety and professional competence, I
15:47will focus on mastering both academic
15:51and clinical Korean.
15:52By combining linguistic proficiency with
15:54cultural understanding, I will not only
15:57succeed in my studies, but also
15:59contribute to meaningful
16:01knowledge exchange with peers,
16:03professors, and patients. That is how I
16:06ended my language study plan.
16:08Concise.
16:10Easy to understand. Not It's not
16:12exaggerated. On points. You understand
16:15the feeling.
16:17Anyways, so as you can see, the sun is
16:19down and there is no more light, so we
16:21can all be peaceful together and just
16:24proceed our videos. So, I actually
16:26wanted to check if I was making sense
16:27and I realized that I was moving too
16:29much in my camera, so I'm going to
16:31just try and put it here. I don't know
16:33if it's audible. I'm always checking
16:36because last time I made a video, this
16:37thing wasn't turned on and then I did
16:40not have audio because I did not know
16:42it's turned off.
16:44So, I'm always like trying to like
16:45confirm and check it. I'm going to hold
16:46it and just see how we can progress with
16:49it.
16:50So, I just I finished reading my
16:53language study plan and what I'm going
16:56to point out is the fact that
16:59since I already I already done
17:02What am I even saying here? I already
17:04did two semesters in Korea in language
17:07school and I would tell you that if I
17:09should write this essay once more, I
17:12would not remove anything. It's exactly
17:15very adequate for everything that I have
17:18done here. And one of the things I
17:20really want to point out is the fact
17:22that
17:23it's about the big So, just do not try
17:26to exaggerate
17:28by making them understand that oh, I
17:29know how to speak Korean. You do not
17:31know how to speak Korean as I mentioned
17:31here yet. So, don't try to exaggerate or
17:35try to like sound overly ambitious to
17:38having a vision. They know Korean is
17:40hard. They know you don't know about
17:41these things yet. So, don't try to like
17:44think about things you don't understand
17:46or you have no no reason to back up back
17:49behind it if that makes sense. So, the
17:52pattern you want to follow for your
17:54language learning plan is that start
17:55with your attitude. What's your belief
17:58towards towards Korean language? Are you
17:59learning Korean language just because
18:01you are coming to Korea? Or you actually
18:03have this curiosity mindset towards
18:06Korean language? Why are you learning
18:07Korean? Why is Korean important for your
18:10academic integration into Korea? Why is
18:12Korean important for anything you do in
18:13Korea?
18:15as time goes on.
18:17Right? And then you want to follow by
18:19when you started learning Korean. One of
18:22the things I really get recently is the
18:23fact that people ask, "Oh, Pela, I do
18:25not have the big exam. Then, what do I
18:27do?" Of course, right now one of the
18:30competitive way to actually improve your
18:32application is by having a topic
18:35results. However, it doesn't mean that
18:38if you do not have it, it means that
18:40your application is being tarnished.
18:41Focus on what you have. I always tell
18:44people that do not focus on what you do
18:46not have. Focus on what you have.
18:48When you start mentioning, "Oh, I'm
18:50sorry I couldn't take the big exam." You
18:52already diverted the understanding. You
18:54don't have to mention things that you do
18:56not have.
18:57If you don't have any topic exam
19:00topic exam don't start mentioning "I
19:03couldn't take the big exam because my my
19:05mommy my mommy is not feeling fine. I
19:07couldn't travel to Abu Dhabi. That's why
19:08I couldn't take the exam, but I did
19:10this." Don't even do that. Just mention
19:12across. Just say, "Oh, this is what I
19:14did." Focus on what you have. Let's say
19:17you just heard about Korea today and you
19:19have everything you need tomorrow. It
19:21doesn't also mean that you cannot get
19:23your kids. [clears throat]
19:24There are people that actually come to
19:25Korea without zero knowledge of Korea.
19:28It doesn't mean that you have to
19:29manufacture 5 years ago the Korean
19:32language journey story. You can't
19:34explain what they want to see. Your
19:36attitude towards Korean language.
19:38You can Okay, let's say you have no
19:40previous understanding or learning of
19:41Korean language before the time which
19:44you apply for your kids and when you
19:45actually go to Korea. What are you
19:47currently doing to improve that thing?
19:49That's like this is the gap of your
19:51Korean language journey. Let's say
19:53right now you don't know Hangul or you
19:55don't know anything. Everything is come
19:56semi danio aseo. That's like your your
19:59current status. Then this is where you
20:01want to be. Where you want to be is like
20:03probably be ready to to integrate into
20:05your language here. That's like where
20:08you where you are like after going to
20:09Korea. Then the gap within this that
20:12particular system, what are you going to
20:14do about it? Are you going to start
20:16learning Korean through what and what?
20:19Then after realizing or after I want, I
20:21couldn't do this, I then do this about
20:23it. What are you going to do about it?
20:25That's the pattern you have to follow.
20:27Nobody is asking you to come and
20:29come and manufacture a false story about
20:31your Korean language journey. Because
20:33they're going to ask you.
20:35In your interview they're going to not
20:36only
20:38assess how you speak or probably assess
20:41you to Korean language. The things you
20:43say actually reflect how much you
20:45understand.
20:46So it's more about focusing on what you
20:49have and not on what you don't know
20:51have. So I hope this video was able to
20:53help somebody by reading my essay and
20:54trying to explain the fact that
20:56there is nothing that would remove from
20:58this essay if I would apply again and
21:01also giving you a mindset to understand
21:03that you do not have to manufacture 100
21:07resources or 100
21:09or 100 whatever you want to write there.
21:12Focus on your attitude towards Korean
21:14language, what you have done, what you
21:17are doing, what you would do after
21:18coming to Korea, and what you would do
21:21while studying your language. By
21:23studying your doing your because Korean
21:26language learning is continuous. It
21:27doesn't end after coming to Korea. It
21:29doesn't end after your language year.
21:30It's continuous. Do you understand? And
21:33one of the things they are most
21:35they are most worried about is the fact
21:37that after coming to Korea, you should
21:39know how to adapt because it's kind of
21:41pretty difficult when you come to Korea
21:43and you you start learning Korean
21:44language.
21:46You're going to receive a lot of
21:47cultural shocks, a lot of things that
21:49will make you feel like, "Oh, what am I
21:50really doing in this country? Should I
21:52have really really learned Korean?" They
21:54know about these things. You want to be
21:55able to convince them that
21:57you are aware of these things. Don't try
21:59to don't make them feel like, "Oh, you
22:00don't know that Korean is hard." Bro,
22:02Korean is hard. They know that Korean is
22:03hard. Don't try to make them feel like
22:05you don't know Korean is hard. So,
22:07express the fact that you do understand
22:08that this thing is not going to be easy
22:10journey. Like I the word I wanted
22:12something like intensive language year
22:15because language year is pretty very
22:17intensive. Don't lie to them and make
22:18them feel like, "Oh, you don't know
22:19language year is intensive." Do you
22:21understand?
22:22And that being said, I hope you learned
22:23something from this video and
22:26if you watched to this point, thank you
22:27so much for watching. See you in my next
22:29video about my goal of study plan.
22:32Thanks for watching. Bye-bye.
