0:11hi I'm Ray and this is Leo my Burmese
0:15cat
0:16Leo is nearly five years old he joined
0:19our family when he was just 14 weeks old
0:22and the training method that I use to
0:24teach Leo how to use the toilet should
0:27be started when there are at least three
0:29months old and already litter trained it
0:32was over four and a half years ago when
0:34I trained Leo and I only have photos
0:36from them so today we filmed some more
0:39footage to try and piece together to
0:42show you how easy it is to train your
0:45cat to use the toilet and how
0:48stress-free it is for both your cat and
0:50for yourself Leo is the star of the
0:54video and I'm very grateful to him I'm
0:57very grateful for him at the end of the
1:00video I answer my most frequently asked
1:03questions so if you want to train your
1:05cat to use the toilet do stay with us
1:08until the end Leo is the second cat I
1:11have trained to use the toilet using the
1:13same method I felt there had to be a
1:16better way than outlitter to help save
1:18the environment and save on the mess and
1:21smell and the cost of the cat litter so
1:24I started to think outside the box and I
1:27went to Google and I typed into Google
1:29how to train my cat to use the toilet
1:33and discovered the gadget show had
1:35recently reviewed it but it featured in
1:37my top five silliest gadgets of the year
1:39on the gadget show as you can imagine we
1:42get sent some fantastic technology and
1:45some incredible toys to play with but we
1:47also get sent some well quite frankly
1:49utterly ridiculous and pointless gadgets
1:52so I've been having a little rummage
1:54around our storeroom and I've come out
1:56with what I think are the top five most
1:59silly gadgets of the year at number one
2:02it's the litter quitter
2:04this is a cat toilet training system
2:07it's been designed to train your cat to
2:09use your human toilet instead of a cat
2:11litter tray
2:12[Music]
2:14first of all you put the red insert
2:17inside your cat Lucy believe that they
2:19go into production this cat toilet
2:21though this is even funnier look it
2:23comes with its own software so you can
2:26actually train your cat to sit on your
2:28toilet to do its business I don't know
2:30what's more ridiculous to that or this
2:31which I was convinced it could work so I
2:34ordered one it said you can train your
2:36cat to use a human toilet in eight weeks
2:39or less the litter quitter comes with a
2:41base plate which is a special kind of
2:43toilet seat that fits all Standard
2:46Toilets three training discs red Amber
2:49and green an instruction booklet plus a
2:5220 minute DVD with step-by-step
2:55instructions
2:57the process starts by modifying the way
2:59your cat uses the litter tray the red
3:02stage Leo's litter tray was already in
3:05the bathroom so he was used to going to
3:07the bathroom to use it I replaced it
3:10with the litter quitter on the floor
3:12next to the toilet with the seat outer
3:14and the red plastic disc full of litter
3:17I showed Leo and he was very happy to
3:20use this for his litter tray
3:23after a couple of days I moved the
3:25litter quitter up onto the toilet and
3:27put Leo onto it to show him we take the
3:30lid up so it couldn't fall and scare him
3:32this stage got him used to jumping up
3:34onto the toilet to use the litter I
3:37provided Leo with a step to make it easy
3:40for him to get to his litter again he
3:43was very happy with this and I kept it
3:46exactly the same for about two weeks we
3:49then progressed to the Amber stage and
3:51replaced the red disc with the Amber
3:53disc and filled it with the cat litter
3:55again I showed it to Leo and placed him
3:58on it he was curious about the hole and
4:01would peer through it going through the
4:03hole is hit and miss and sometimes he
4:05did it and sometimes he didn't but that
4:07wasn't important the main thing he was
4:10learning at this stage was confidence
4:12and how to balance with his paws on the
4:15seat we use this for about three weeks
4:18onto the green stage which is when he
4:20learned to balance entirely on the rim
4:22of the little Twitter by this stage your
4:25cat will want to succeed as he has now
4:27established the toilet as his place to
4:28go at the start I help Leo get his paws
4:31into the right place if your cat is as
4:33curious as Leo they will spend some time
4:36with their head looking through the hole
4:37this is perfectly normal they may even
4:40drink from the water in a flushed pan as
4:43it is simply tap water and they drink
4:45far worse in the outdoors I gradually
4:48reduce the amount of litter in the green
4:50disc experimenting with none and when
4:52Leo was going through the green disc
4:54without any cat litter I removed the
4:57green disc and left the little quitter
4:58base on the toilet for a few days before
5:01removing it and Leo was happy to stand
5:03on the normal toilet seat and Leo
5:06doesn't just use his toilet most
5:08mornings he joins me in our bathroom you
5:11may notice your cat using a scratching
5:13motion with his paws Leo sometimes does
5:16this after eating too it's simply a
5:19reflex that makes your cat feel better
5:20about things he doesn't need to have
5:23glitter to do this cats bury their ways
5:26to hide the smell from predators and as
5:28the water takes away the smell the cat
5:30is satisfied people always ask can he
5:33flush and of course the answer is no but
5:35I think flushing the toilet is a lot
5:37easier than emptying a litter tray
5:39throughout the training stay positive
5:41and patient don't rush Your Cat And if
5:43your cat is finding it hard to progress
5:45sit and watch the DVD with them
5:47seriously it works the first cat eye
5:51train to use the toilet with the litter
5:53quitter struggle to get past the green
5:55stage so I sat with him and we watched
5:57the video together and then he did it if
6:00you only have one toilet then you will
6:02need to be removing the little quitter
6:04when it is your turn but this is only
6:06during the training process and for me
6:08it would be worth the inconvenience and
6:11yes it does mean leaving the lid up and
6:13the seat down so the toilet is available
6:15to the cat at all times how long it
6:18takes will depend on a number of factors
6:20like your cat's age Temperance sense of
6:22adventure teacher and their intelligence
6:24I read on the litter quitter website
6:27that most cats figure it out in about
6:29eight weeks or so as long as you are
6:32patient and understanding cats older
6:34than eight years might take a bit longer
6:36and I hear the oldest successfully
6:38trained cat is at Oscar who started when
6:41he was 12 years old what happens if they
6:44have to go into a Cattery will they
6:46still use a cat litter and I can tell
6:48you yes Leo has no problem transitioning
6:51from one to the other the intention was
6:54for Leo to be an indoor cat but in the
6:56summer he used to cry wanting to be with
6:58us outside so we decided he could spend
7:01some time outside for a long time he
7:04would always come back inside to use the
7:07toilet before going out to play again
7:09but now he understands this is not
7:11necessary thank you for watching we hope
7:14you enjoyed the video please like if you
7:17did do subscribe and turn on
7:19notifications and as always we look
7:22forward to seeing you in the next one
