0:10Hi, Mom. We made it to Warsaw.
0:13>> We made it to Warsaw.
0:14>> Haley and Jacob were married two years
0:16ago in North Carolina.
0:19>> We met [music] in a park and both of us
0:21just knew right away, okay, I could
0:23spend the rest of my life with this
0:24person easy.
0:25>> So pretty.
0:27>> Both filmmakers. Kaylee is Americanborn
0:30and Jacob has Polish roots.
0:32>> When I found out he was European and he
0:34spoke another language, I was really
0:35excited about that.
0:36>> Do you know how to say coffee in Polish?
0:42>> You speak Polish?
0:42>> They lived an easygoing lifestyle in the
0:44States.
0:45>> We had a lot of work, so we we stayed
0:47busy. [music] We just loved having our
0:49little home and our sanctuary.
0:52>> While they were close to Kayle's family,
0:54Jacob really missed his siblings. I have
0:56an older brother and an older sister. My
0:58brother is married and him and his wife
1:01are photographers in Warsaw. And my
1:03sister is a teacher and we just wanted
1:04to be closer to my family for a bit.
1:06>> This is so amazing, all of us together
1:08here in the city.
1:10>> It was me that came up with the idea
1:11that we should move to Europe. I just
1:14said, we're so young now. If there's any
1:16time for us to do something crazy and
1:18take a risk, it's now. Let's move to
1:20Poland because why not?
1:21>> Why not?
1:26Poland's capital city, Warsaw, is home
1:29to 1.7 million people. Its stunning
1:32architecture was completely rebuilt
1:35after World War II. And nearly onethird
1:37of this beautiful city is devoted to
1:39green spaces.
1:42To help them find the ideal apartment,
1:44Kaye and Jacob are getting help from
1:46local real estate agent Marta.
1:48>> So, how is Orso so far? It's great. We
1:51love it. What are you guys looking for
1:52in a flat in the city?
1:53>> We definitely want to be closer to the
1:55center just to enjoy the city lifestyle.
1:57I'm a film director and I I do a lot of
2:00editing of the projects that I that I
2:02shoot. So, it would be very important
2:03for me to have an office space
2:05>> and it would be really great um because
2:06I love to bake. Have a nice space in the
2:09kitchen that I can do that. And my
2:11biggest passion right now is plants. So,
2:13as long as I have space for plants, I'm
2:15going to be happy. We would love to have
2:16a onebedroom. Okay. And what about the
2:18the style of the of the flat we're
2:20looking for? Definitely love vintage. I
2:22feel like
2:23>> Okay. If you're living in Europe, you
2:24just have to get a taste.
2:26>> Yeah.
2:26>> We'd love to have an apartment with a
2:27character and unique characteristics.
2:30>> We're looking for a balcony. That would
2:32be great. Just so that we can relax
2:34outside, have dinner, drink coffee.
2:36That's kind of important to us. What
2:38about the price you are willing to pay?
2:40>> We are willing to pay about $800 a
2:42month. $800.
2:44>> Okay. The first apartment is located in
2:46an affluent neighborhood walking
2:48distance to the city center.
2:50>> We're really close to his brother's
2:51house actually.
2:52>> Perfect. We are in Makoto. Great. H this
2:54is, as you probably heard, a fantastic
2:57district. Very, very popular amongst the
2:59local people. The apartment is actually
3:01on the second floor of this beautiful
3:03pre-war building. It's a one-bedroom
3:05apartment, but it's actually very
3:07spacious. And it does have a balcony for
3:09you guys.
3:10>> And what's the price?
3:11>> It's actually $850 per month. So that's
3:13a little bit more than we expected.
3:15>> Welcome.
3:16>> Oh, it's a little dark. There's no
3:18window here, but we have a light.
3:20>> Come inside.
3:22>> Nice. And here is the corridor.
3:26>> I love how high the ceilings are.
3:28>> Yeah,
3:29>> it's amazing.
3:30>> And here is the kitchen.
3:32Oh, cool.
3:33>> Oh, wow. I can definitely see myself
3:35drinking coffee in front of this window.
3:37>> Yeah, it's great.
3:38>> Window's nice. This is a little small, a
3:41little old. There's a dishwasher.
3:44>> Dishwasher looks new. That's good. It's
3:47nice. There's some cool antique
3:48cupboards and pieces in the kitchen, but
3:50it also looks like the appliances are a
3:52little bit antique as well. This is a
3:54funny little space.
3:57>> Seems uh like a funny solution to hiding
3:59the junk underneath the sink.
4:01>> So far so good. What about the living
4:03space?
4:04>> Yes, of course.
4:08>> Well, this is big.
4:09>> I love this space. It's nice.
4:11>> It does feel a little dark. Definitely
4:13not not enough direct sunlight.
4:15>> Yeah, but that could be good for plants
4:17actually not having the direct sun.
4:20>> But this floor, we can make some music
4:22on this floor.
4:23>> Musical floors.
4:26>> Adds character.
4:28>> It's old
4:29>> original wooden floors.
4:31>> This I assume would be the office. Yeah,
4:33I guess
4:34>> might be tough having you in the same
4:36room as
4:37>> I know. Yeah, I don't know if I would
4:38want to be in the same room as the
4:39living space and everything else.
4:41>> So, there's definitely a lack of an
4:42office space for Jacob in this place,
4:45which would definitely pose an issue.
4:47>> Do you think maybe we can put the
4:48computer and the office space in the
4:50bedroom? Is there enough space?
4:51>> There's the bedroom.
4:52>> Oh, okay. I hope it's stylish.
4:56>> Ooh, this is a nice size.
4:58>> I really like these commodes.
5:00>> This is beautiful. Look at this wood.
5:02They are vintage for sure.
5:03>> Two of them. Wow.
5:04>> They look expensive.
5:06>> Yeah, they do. Nice huge comfy bed. So,
5:09that's good.
5:10>> That is a comfortable mattress.
5:11Definitely no space for my computer.
5:14>> Yeah,
5:14>> which is kind of a problem, but
5:16>> we could hide you in the closet or one
5:18of the wardrobes or something. And this
5:19is the balcony over here.
5:20>> Exactly.
5:22>> Oh, the doors look amazing.
5:23>> Yeah. Original from the from the 1935.
5:28Yeah,
5:28>> that's amazing.
5:30>> Wow. Oh, this is super nice.
5:32>> Beautiful.
5:33>> The balcony feels new,
5:35>> unlike the rest of the house.
5:36>> Yeah, this been this has been renewed.
5:38>> Great view. Nice and quiet. And there's
5:41a bathroom.
5:42>> Of course there is. Follow me.
5:49>> This layout is kind of strange because
5:50we have to walk to the bathroom every
5:53time through the living room.
5:54>> That's true. That's true.
5:57>> Oh, wow. I like how modern it is. Yeah,
6:00it's kind of weird. Doesn't fit with the
6:02rest of the house.
6:03>> That's true. There's not much vintage
6:05here.
6:05>> Yeah, not much vintage.
6:07>> What do you think about this color? So,
6:09I know you like lighter.
6:10>> Yeah, it's a little bit dark, but maybe
6:12it's easy to clean.
6:15Lots of character, which is what we
6:16wanted. The balcony is great, but the
6:19kitchen could definitely use some
6:20updating. The appliances are a little
6:22old since it's already over our budget.
6:24We might have to put money into it, so
6:25I'm not sure if that's something we want
6:27to do. prop build.
6:30>> How's it up there?
6:31>> So cool.
6:32>> Kaye and Jacob are trading an ordinary
6:34life in North Carolina for an exciting
6:37new adventure [music] in Warsaw, Poland.
6:40>> Are you scared?
6:41>> No, I'm excited.
6:42>> Don't touch anything.
6:43>> Kaylee and I are a very adventurous
6:45couple.
6:46>> We always talked about living in Europe
6:47together and it was a dream of ours. So
6:50>> now is the best time. We're just young
6:51and reckless.
6:52>> Look at the beach.
6:53>> Looks so amazing.
6:56Oh, dear Lord.
6:58>> I think the biggest challenge for us is
7:00the language. I speak Polish fluently,
7:01so that's not a problem, but Kaye
7:03doesn't. But she's doing really well.
7:05She's learning and studying.
7:06>> And this is a chestnut. What's that?
7:08>> Uh, Kashtan.
7:09>> Kashtan. This is toy.
7:12>> To
7:13>> is this
7:14>> toy? Yes.
7:15>> Option two is as close to the river as
7:17you can get, and the area is a haven for
7:19hipsters.
7:20>> You're about to see a house boat.
7:22Amazing. It's incredible. It's actually
7:24really nice. This is a very modern port
7:26and it's a great location because it's
7:28right in the city center.
7:29>> And what is the price?
7:30>> The price is actually $800 per month.
7:33>> Perfect.
7:34>> Is this it here?
7:34>> Yes, that's the place.
7:36>> This is so cool.
7:37>> Come inside.
7:38>> So cool.
7:41>> Wa. Come inside. This is amazing.
7:45>> This is incredible.
7:45>> I didn't even know it was possible in
7:47Warsaw, actually, to live on a river.
7:48So, it's a really exciting new idea for
7:50us. Look at these windows. So cool. I
7:53don't think I've ever been on a on a
7:55>> No, I don't [snorts] think
7:55>> on a boat maybe.
7:56>> Nice light actually for house boats.
7:58Lots of windows.
7:59>> And can you live here all year? All
8:01year?
8:01>> Yes, of course. You have not only the
8:03wood uh burning,
8:04>> but you also have the electrical heating
8:06in here and also a gas option just in
8:09case if something, you know, goes wrong
8:11with the electricity, you always have a
8:12backup of gas heating. So, quite
8:14prepared for winter time.
8:15>> That's great.
8:16>> And the kitchen's fully equipped.
8:18>> Yes.
8:18>> Okay. It's super tiny. It's small. So,
8:22that's going to be a problem. Is there
8:24an oven?
8:25>> There's not an oven, but there's an
8:26option to add one. Okay.
8:28>> Okay. And what about the fridge?
8:30>> Oh, the fridge is hidden actually
8:33>> right
8:34>> here. Oh, it's fridge.
8:37>> Yeah, it's like a vacation.
8:39>> Yeah, this seems like a vacation
8:40kitchen.
8:42>> But we do have an office space.
8:44>> Oh, go ahead.
8:47>> Wow, these are cool.
8:48>> Yeah, the switches.
8:50>> You wanted character. This is the boat
8:52character, right?
8:53>> That's true.
8:53>> True.
8:54>> It's viby.
8:56>> This is a nice little space.
8:58>> Open space for you guys. I thought maybe
8:59it can be an office space.
9:01>> What do you think?
9:02>> Yeah,
9:02>> definitely could put a different table
9:04set up and a different chair and we
9:05could make it work.
9:06>> Nice view. I love this huge window. Can
9:09definitely put plants around here.
9:11>> Maybe put a rug or something cuz this
9:13floor is a little
9:14>> little industrial looking.
9:15>> A little cold. And is that the bedroom
9:17over here?
9:17>> Exactly. A few steps up. Oh, cool. Go
9:20ahead. Have a look.
9:21>> Oh, wow. This is cute.
9:23>> This is a little tiny,
9:24>> a little small. This view is amazing,
9:26though.
9:27>> The view is amazing.
9:28>> Wow.
9:29>> I would love to wake up to this,
9:30actually.
9:33>> It's like we're sneaking out.
9:35>> Oh, wow.
9:37>> This is amazing.
9:37>> This is nice.
9:39>> I could definitely see myself drinking
9:41coffee here in the morning.
9:42>> Yes. Look at all these trees.
9:44>> This is beautiful.
9:45>> This makes the small bedroom. Okay.
9:47>> I wonder if we could swim in the summer.
9:49Probably
9:50not.
9:51>> Probably not.
9:53>> And is there a bathroom over here?
9:54>> Yes, of course. Yeah. Come on. Cool.
9:58>> Oh, it's quite big. The toilet on the
10:00boat is surprisingly big and spacious. I
10:03wasn't expecting a normal bathroom.
10:04>> Oh, what's this over here?
10:05>> This is actually the controlling panel
10:07for the whole boat because the boat can
10:09actually sail.
10:10>> Of course, you need to have a permit and
10:12so on, but it's possible. So, this is
10:14the whole system right here.
10:16>> Cool.
10:16>> And is the deck this way?
10:18>> Exactly. A few steps up.
10:21>> Oh, wow. This is amazing.
10:23>> Wow.
10:24>> So much space. This is like a luxurious
10:27yacht.
10:27>> So cool.
10:28>> Impressive.
10:29>> Yeah. Oh, man. We can just sunbathe out
10:31here.
10:31>> I'm speechless.
10:32>> It's almost like a second living room or
10:35something. I can have some fruit trees
10:37and then we can make our own juices and
10:40>> make a garden over here.
10:41>> Just have a fullon garden.
10:42>> Just sail away.
10:43>> We can have friends over.
10:45>> Have friends over. have some food
10:48cocktail.
10:49>> Yeah,
10:50>> be awesome.
10:52>> I really enjoyed it.
10:53>> It's pretty amazing. Not what we were
10:55expecting, but definitely has the unique
10:58style that we're looking for and could
11:00make for a really fun way of life here
11:02in Warsaw.
11:03>> Are there any things you didn't
11:04necessarily like?
11:05>> The kitchen was way too small. I think
11:07we struggle with cooking and baking.
11:09>> It would be a struggle. The bedroom is a
11:11little small as well, but the the little
11:13balcony off the back kind of makes up
11:14for that. That's true.
11:16>> Open the door.
11:17>> I love the old
11:20trims are the best.
11:21>> I like this area.
11:22>> House number three is farthest from the
11:24city in a popular area with lots to do.
11:27>> So guys, here we are in the Praga
11:29District. It's a very vibrant, young,
11:31trendy area. It's about 20 minutes by
11:33tram to the city center. This is an
11:35apartment with two bedrooms.
11:37>> Oh, that's a perfect little bonus for
11:38us.
11:39>> Yeah, I thought so. It's a really nice
11:41flat with a balcony. It's in an older
11:43building. That's very typical for this
11:45area. So, I think you will enjoy that.
11:47>> How much is it?
11:47>> It's actually $800 per month.
11:50>> Oh, wow.
11:51>> That's what we wanted.
11:54>> Welcome.
11:56>> Oh, wow.
11:57>> It's really bright.
11:58>> This wallpaper is crazy.
12:00>> Yeah, it's kind of cheesy, though.
12:02>> I kind of like it. Look at this wall.
12:05>> Really cool. And here's the kitchen.
12:08>> Oh, it's so beautiful.
12:09>> Oh, wow.
12:10>> So bright.
12:10>> Really nice. I love the wood.
12:12>> Yeah, I love this. I love the colors the
12:14with the floors and with this blue gray.
12:16It's really nice.
12:17>> I love the oven. It's so beautiful.
12:19>> Yeah.
12:19>> Yeah, that's really cool.
12:20>> So, a nice couch setup, too. Nice for
12:23watching movies and and reading.
12:25>> Yeah,
12:28>> I love naps.
12:29>> I love all the old furniture. It's It's
12:30really cool.
12:30>> Yeah, actually. I like how they
12:32decorated it. Actually, this dining set
12:33is amazing.
12:36It's a little small,
12:39>> but this
12:39>> I like all the light though.
12:40>> Yeah, I guess we can only have two
12:42guests and then we'd have to put people
12:43on the couch. Maybe not super practical,
12:45but it's really cool looking. Good mix
12:48of modern and pieces with character. And
12:51the bedroom is close. Follow me.
12:54This is one of the bedrooms.
12:56>> Wow.
12:58>> Oh, wow.
12:59>> Nice high ceilings. A little bit small.
13:01I don't see any wardrobes or anything.
13:03Well, for this I have a surprise for
13:05you. If you turn around,
13:07>> a walk-in closet.
13:09>> Oh, wow. This is so big. This is
13:12incredible.
13:13>> Wow.
13:13>> I don't think we have that many pieces
13:15of clothing, so we would have to buy
13:16some more.
13:17>> And you guys have a washerd dryer combo.
13:21>> Oh, this is a dryer, too.
13:22>> Yes, of course.
13:23>> That's incredible.
13:24>> Oh, what a treasure. Definitely a great
13:26closet, right?
13:27>> Amazing.
13:31>> This is the second bedroom. Oh wow,
13:34>> this is a great space. I love the table,
13:37too.
13:37>> This is Yeah, this is perfect for an
13:39office space.
13:40>> Can put my computer over here.
13:41>> Yeah, this is great. Great work space
13:43since we work at home.
13:44>> The view is actually very inspiring. I
13:46probably have troubles leaving. Space
13:48like this would just allow me to get
13:50inspired, focus, be silent, and just
13:53spend a lot of time in front of my
13:54computer.
13:55>> This is the bathroom.
13:57>> Okay.
13:58>> Freshly renovated.
13:59>> Oh, it's a little small.
14:00>> It's a little small. That's a baby tub.
14:04>> That is a baby tub. Yeah, this would be
14:06hard to uh
14:07>> Yeah, it's a little tiny.
14:08>> I can't even We're pretty tall.
14:10>> I can't even see myself in the mirror.
14:13>> Yeah. Designed for a little shorter
14:14people than you guys, but but it's
14:17freshly renovated. Clean.
14:19>> Yeah. And uh is that everything?
14:21>> We have a balcony to see. So perfect.
14:24>> Best part.
14:25>> Yeah.
14:27>> I love how light this room is.
14:29>> Yeah. It's nice and bright. It's
14:30amazing. And here is the balcony.
14:35>> Oh, it's loud.
14:37>> It's loud.
14:38>> Loud. Yeah.
14:38>> Yeah.
14:39>> It'd be hard to relax because there's
14:41just a lot going on and
14:42>> and the views are kind of not not really
14:45much of a view.
14:47>> Great space. Love the layout. Very
14:49bright, a lot of light. It's a great
14:51apartment, especially the extra bedroom
14:53that we can use as an office. We really
14:55love that. Very inspiring. The bathroom
14:57is too small for us. I think we'd like
14:59something bigger. It's a little too loud
15:01out here for what I like.
15:03>> It's a little bit too far.
15:04>> Yeah,
15:06>> I think I can see us having a a really
15:09good time here.
15:10>> Uhhuh.
15:10>> Okay, you go.
15:12>> Oh my goodness. [laughter]
15:14>> You're pretty terrible at this.
15:16Hopefully, you can be better at choosing
15:17the apartments. [laughter]
15:26[music]
15:28>> All right. So, which one you think we
15:29can decide? For sure, we don't want
15:32>> the houseboat has to go.
15:33>> I think so, too. I think it's just a
15:34little too complicated.
15:36>> I think it'd be a fun adventure, but
15:37that's another Yeah, that's that's for
15:39another season. Maybe when we're old.
15:43>> So, we're down to the two-bedroom and
15:45the vintage apartment.
15:46>> That's a hard decision.
15:47>> I know.
15:48>> The twobedroom, I still love the office
15:50space. It'd be nice to have that.
15:52>> All been updated. The kitchen is ready
15:54to use, ready to cook in. That walk-in
15:56closet with the walk-in closet has the
15:58dryer built into the washing machine.
16:00That would be really nice. I think the
16:02worst thing maybe is the bathroom and
16:05it's just a little too small for us.
16:06>> And the vintage apartment. Um, the
16:08location is prime. What do you think?
16:10>> I loved how spacious it was. I liked the
