0:00so you're ready to take your motorcycle
0:02safety foundation course very cool my
0:04guy it is the easiest way to get a
0:06motorcycle endorsement on your license
0:08and in most states completion of the msf
0:11course waives any necessary testing from
0:13the dmv saving you from the inevitable
0:15letdown that comes from getting a
0:16motorcycle learner's permit practicing
0:19with a jigs or squid you call a friend
0:20who teaches you how to pull fifth gear
0:22wheelies on the highway instead of
0:23working the friction zone in a parking
0:25lot but before signing up for inevitably
0:27failing your skills test because the
0:29narcs at the dmv don't see the value of
0:31a dank nooner i've seen many riders go
0:34down that route and while it isn't
0:35impossible to practice with a permit and
0:37take the skills test on your own you'll
0:39definitely need the right friend or
0:41relative there to give you proper
0:42guidance and ultimately it will take
0:44likely even longer than just dedicating
0:46a weekend to taking the msf course
0:48taking the course will ensure that you
0:50have the fundamentals down pat so you
0:51can begin practicing on your own without
0:53developing a litany of bad habits you'll
0:56get some good feedback and direction
0:57from your instructors which can help
0:59make you a better writer in the long run
1:01here are a few things you should expect
1:02from your msf course let's get into it
1:05today's video is sponsored by our
1:06community over at yammynoob.com i will
1:08tell you more about that later in the
1:10show before we go on this journey
1:11together make sure to click the
1:13notification bell so you know when all
1:14the freshest videos come out we've got
1:17plenty of videos geared for beginner
1:18squids just like you one of the first
1:20things to expect from the msf course is
1:23to learn yeah i know that sounds obvious
1:25but you'd be surprised at the number of
1:27people that take the course thinking
1:28that they already know how to ride hey
1:30man i rode dirtbike growing up already
1:32bought a harley road glad just signed my
1:34damn dmv waiver already it's as if when
1:36people get older they forget that they
1:38don't know everything and become unable
1:40to learn new ideas oh yeah it's called
1:43neuroplasticity the number one reason
1:44harley-davidson is still in business you
1:47put a bunch of adults in an educational
1:49setting and they start to behave worse
1:50than kindergarteners who skip nap time
1:52so go in expecting to learn be
1:54respectful and listen to your
1:56instructors i assume most of them only
1:58do it because they love motorcycling and
2:00want more people to be able to
2:01experience it or satisfy some community
2:03service requirement after their third
2:05dui sometimes people who sign up for the
2:07msf course don't realize the amount of
2:09classroom time that will be required
2:11usually is around eight hours of
2:13in-class time working out of a booklet
2:15that goes over everything from
2:16appropriate motorcycle gear basic
2:18components of a motorcycle motorcycle
2:20laws and eventually riding skills much
2:23of what you go over will be on the final
2:25knowledge test so pay attention and ask
2:27questions if you're unsure the only
2:29stupid question is the one you don't ask
2:31and oh which beginner bike should i get
2:33it's turbo boost it's already embedded
2:34in every piece of yamanoob content
2:36somehow so stop asking me already once
2:39the classroom portion is completed and
2:40the spitballs are long dried up on the
2:42chalkboard the next two days will be
2:43spent on the riding course learning
2:45practical skills despite what you
2:47already know from prior experience or
2:48have learned online from your friends go
2:50into the msf with an open mind and eager
2:52to absorb all the information you can
2:55don't act like a know-it-all one of the
2:57biggest things you should expect from
2:58the msf is to practice the riding skills
3:00over and over and over short attention
3:02span get bored easily we'll have your
3:04mom pack an extra ritalin in your
3:06lunchable because it's gonna be
3:07repetitive while you will be spending
3:10two days doing the practical skills
3:11training on the course there are maybe
3:13only a dozen different exercises that
3:15you will do repeatedly over and over and
3:17over until either the sun finally burns
3:19out or your instructor decides it's time
3:21to move on to the next exercise you'll
3:23be doing some basic exercises like the
3:25cone weave and making a right hand turn
3:27from a stop then you'll do the u-turn in
3:29the box which is probably the most
3:30fabled exercise of the course you'll be
3:32learning about cornering and entry speed
3:34on a little outline track you'll
3:36practice emergency stopping avoiding
3:38obstacles shifting gears and lane
3:39changing then you'll learn how to make
3:41the perfect poached egg and do your
3:43taxes just be prepared yourself to do
3:45these basic exercises many many times
3:48and expect to do a lot of sitting and
3:49waiting in line until it's your turn to
3:51practice again remember to have fun
3:53while you're out there on the course
3:54learning different skills it is a lot of
3:56fun being out there on the msf depending
3:57on your experience level you might
3:59either be really nervous or really bored
4:01during some of the exercises in both
4:03situations allow yourself to relax a
4:05little bit and enjoy yourself it'll
4:07improve your riding experience it is a
4:09lot easier to learn when you are relaxed
4:11and having fun instead of letting your
4:13mind race and imagining all the
4:14different creative ways you can epically
4:16fail in front of your course mates like
4:18dropping your bike or peeing your pants
4:20or saying yes daddy when your instructor
4:22gives you pointers riding a motorcycle
4:24is fun at the end of the day that is
4:26something we can all agree on i mean
4:28don't have as much fun as a hammered
4:30grom rider during st patrick's day mini
4:32bike ride but be relaxed be present and
4:34enjoy yourself and don't get discouraged
4:36if you're slow to pick up on certain
4:38skills it will come back with enough
4:39practice and if you want to learn by
4:41having fun then you should join our
4:42community over at yaminoob.com we've got

5:00favorite way to break the fourth wall
5:02and engage more directly with the
5:03community or if you're an anti-social
5:05introvert there are other perks of
5:07signing up as well you'll get discounts
5:08at shop.yamny.co discounted bike rentals
5:11to twisted road and of course entries to
5:13win all of our giveaway motorcycles
5:15memberships are as low as five bucks a
5:16month and it's a great way for new
5:18motorcyclists to jump start their
5:19journey into the sport head over to
5:21gamenew.co to check it out you should
5:22also expect to receive criticism from
5:24the instructors even the most
5:25experienced writers have probably
5:27developed plenty of bad habits over the
5:29years so despite your experience level
5:31expect that your instructors will have
5:32something to say about your performance
5:34it may be about a specific exercise or
5:36riding in general in my course there was
5:38a handful of young but very experienced
5:40dirt bike riders who had spent hundreds
5:42of hours on motocross tracks or forest
5:44trails before getting their endorsement
5:45on the street and despite their
5:47confidence on the bike they were
5:48constantly getting critiqued because
5:49riding a dirt bike on trails is
5:51completely different from doing a u-turn
5:52inside of a box in a parking lot and the
5:54sooner they'd recognize they still had
5:55things to learn the better they got at
5:57the exercises also for those who are
5:59more sensitive to criticism if there was
6:00ever a time to try and get over that it
6:02would be during the msf course let me
6:04tell you a little story there was an
6:06older couple in my course maybe in their
6:08early 40s i guess old as relatives sorry
6:10if that offends anybody i'm now on the
6:12older side of youthful myself entering
6:14my 30s but anyway there is this couple
6:16who decided that they wanted to learn
6:18how to ride motorcycles awesome right
6:20well apparently not awesome because both
6:22had almost no prior experience of
6:24motorcycling before taking the class
6:25that isn't necessarily a prerequisite
6:27but it will make your experience easier
6:29if you have a fundamental understanding
6:30of like how a motorcycle works or what a
6:33motorcycle is and so on so they know
6:35very little about motorcycles and are
6:37understandably a little intimidated out
6:39on the course the instructors recognized
6:41that they needed a significant amount of
6:42attention during the exercises then this
6:45couple started to feel like they were
6:46being singled out or bullied because
6:48they were receiving the most criticism
6:50eventually the husband threw a hissy fit
6:51and quit the course midway through so
6:53this dude sat on the bench on the side
6:55of the parking lot for another six hours
6:57just pouting while his wife finished the
6:59course although she did ultimately fail
7:01and at the very end the attendees were
7:03given an instructor evaluation sheet and
7:05instead of just answering the questions
7:06like a normal person the husband flipped
7:08over his and scrawled an entire
7:10manifesto about how horrible his
7:12experience was i'm surprised he didn't
7:14stand up on his chair and read it aloud
7:16and ask other people to join in on his
7:17mission to fight against the msf tyranny
7:20they were some of the only people who
7:21failed the course i was in i can't help
7:23but think there is a direct correlation
7:25between your ability to accept criticism
7:27and your success in this class when
7:29signing up for the msf course you should
7:31expect to have bought your gear ahead of
7:33time the gear necessary to take part in
7:34the course is a helmet eye protection
7:36long pants gloves and boots
7:37theoretically you could get away with
7:38just purchasing minimal equipment but it
7:40isn't a great look to show up to the msf
7:42with a hand-me-down helmet safety
7:43glasses and gardening gloves all the
7:45instructors preaching the merits of
7:46atgat but you can also show up if they
7:49have helmet rentals and just wearing
7:50some pants and some gloves and some
7:51boots you'll be fine if you're serious
7:53about getting into motorcycling you
7:54should pony up and buy some proper
7:56equipment if you're buying gear online
7:58make sure to take proper measurements to
8:00make sure everything's going to fit you
8:01properly if you're going to especially
8:03want to make sure your helmet fits
8:04correctly otherwise it isn't going to do
8:06a very job protecting your brain we have
8:08a little how-to graphic on
8:09shop.yemeni.com that can help you
8:11measure the size of your noggin so you
8:12know which helmet size to order hey i
8:14guess while you're over there you can
8:15check out our selection of gloves and
8:17boots as well if you're buying gear
8:19specifically for the msf course think
8:20about what the weather is going to be
8:22like you're not going to want to be
8:23wearing gear better suited for the fall
8:24while you spend six hours sitting on an
8:26idling air-cooled motorcycle in a
8:28parking lot on a 90-degree day you
8:30should also expect your msf course to be
8:32attended by all sorts of different age
8:34groups and experience levels and
8:36demographics despite what our youtube
8:38analytics tell us motorcycles are ridden
8:39by all sorts of different people in the
8:41real world even women shocker if you
8:44look at our statistics but it's true
8:46when i took my course i was one of the
8:47fewer younger people attending expect a
8:49young woman who didn't even have her
8:51driver's license yet but wanted to get
8:52the msf out of the way so she could get
8:54her motorcycle endorsements as soon as
8:55she got her normal driver's license
8:57there were a lot of older people on the
8:58bleeding edge of a midlife crisis who
9:00had finally decided to get on two wheels
9:02after their boring suburban life had
9:03become too much to handle the most
9:05interesting attendees in my course were
9:06a couple of older club guys who had been
9:08riding their entire life without an
9:10endorsement and after getting pulled
9:11over or involved in some sort of
9:13accident were forced to take the msf
9:14course and get endorsed one guy
9:16specifically was in a pretty big
9:18nationally recognized club even wore his
9:20colors to the classroom portion of the
9:21course not even kidding he was a pretty
9:23nice guy and a good writer so yeah
9:25there's no need to be nervous if you
9:26don't fit into what people think the
9:28normal motorcycle stereotype is there
9:30will be younger people older people men
9:32women alphas and betas alike lastly if
9:34you're taking the msf course you should
9:36expect to pass i don't mean to fill your
9:38soft brain false optimism but in reality
9:40if you cannot pass the msf course you
9:42probably shouldn't be on a motorcycle
9:45almost everyone in my course passed it
9:46with easy regardless of experience level
9:48except for that one older couple i
9:49mentioned earlier and a poor guy who
9:51accidentally tipped his bike over on the
9:52very first part of the skills test if i
9:55remember correctly dropping your bike
9:56during the final skills test is the only
9:58automatic disqualification otherwise
10:00different errors are tallied up and it
10:02takes quite a few to result in a failing
10:04grade you can stall the bikes a few
10:05times put your foot down a few times go
10:07outside the lines during a u-turn and so
10:09on and even with a few different errors
10:11you should still have no problem passing
10:13the instructors in your course will walk
10:14you through the grading system and even
10:16help determine which errors are
10:17economical for your make if you have no
10:19choice like if it is more costly to put
10:21your foot down or go outside the lines
10:23during a u-turn as i mentioned earlier
10:25you will be practicing these exercises
10:27so many times as long as you listen to
10:28your instructors and follow these
10:30directions you should feel relatively
10:31confident that you'll be able to pass
10:32without any issues and if you don't say
10:35you accidentally tip over the bike or
10:36something you will be very well equipped
10:38to just hop over to the dmv take their
10:40skills test and get your endorsement
10:41that way without having to take the
10:42entire msf course again and now for the
10:44obligatory shout out to our european
10:46audience chime down below in the comment
10:48section about how ridiculous our
10:50licensing system is because i completely
10:52agree and i would love to see an a1a2
10:54licensing system and a little more
10:55stringent requirements for people to
10:57ride motorcycles here in the states
10:58because i've seen so many dummies who
11:00don't know how to ride riding
11:01motorcycles thanks for watching the
11:03video if you enjoyed it please take a
11:04minute to subscribe and click the
11:05notification bell fact the burning
11:08sensation from eating spicy peppers is a
11:10neurological reaction and not a physical
11:12one these peppers contain a chemical
11:14called capsaicin which naturally binds
11:16to the pain receptors in our nerves
