0:14hi to another edition of the Everlast

0:17our video series in today's edition

0:19we're not discussing welcome but we are

0:22discussing welding clamps of course you

0:26can't have welding without welding

0:28clamps now there are all kinds of

0:30welding claims so I'm going to show you

0:31some of those today what I'm going to

0:33show you is a lot of the welding clamps

0:35that I use a lot of professional use

0:37just on a daily basis there's a lot of

0:39specialized clamps out there I could go

0:42for two hours without showing you every

0:44clamp in this video today so we're going

0:47to just cover the highlights and give

0:48you kind of a basic category of clamps

0:51here I want to start with the C clamps

0:53in particular these RC type clamps and

0:57you can see that they have a magnet I'd

1:00thread down here that will screw in now

1:02this isn't a standard screw type thread

1:05that you have on a bolt or something

1:06it's actually that a different pitch and

1:08a different depth and shape of the

1:11thread it's designed for pressure type

1:13situations now C clamps range from very

1:19cheap to very expensive what I have here

1:23is a very cheap brand clamp is actually

1:28a cast iron clamp and there are two

1:30types of C clamps in the industry you

1:33don't have a cast iron clamp these two

1:38here and you want to have a cast steel

1:41clamp like I have here now the

1:44difference is that these under pressure

1:48on the path ironmans can break with you

1:51the disadvantage of a plant like this is

1:54the fact that these are pretty slow

1:57you've got to take quite some time to

1:59readjust these and keep turning you can

2:02turn these things for ten minutes

2:03sometimes it seems like can still have

2:06it adjusted all the way down to where

2:08you need it to be used and you can't

2:10keep going back for sometimes between

2:12different clamps if you've got all your

2:15small clamps used

2:16but I'm going to have to use a bigger

2:18one to hold the same thing so they won't

2:22travel like this it's kind of a

2:23disadvantage and it robs you of

2:25production now next we have what I call

2:33the sliding bar plans they range in size

2:37and you can actually see how fast these

2:40are to adjust here now they work off

2:42economy a cantilever principle here and

2:44the actual friction does the holding for

2:47you now you can actually slide one of

2:50these up or down very quickly and you

2:53can actually do it one-handed for most

2:55of them so you can actually have a free

2:57hand holding whatever you're trying to

2:59clamp you can actually slide this up and

3:01down with your free hand to get it set

3:04and then you can turn it once you get

3:06close now you obviously you don't have

3:09quite as long a turn here you still have

3:12the add new threads here that's fine

3:15because if you're trying to get a little

3:18bit more pressure you can actually put

3:20some bond now this is a new acquisition

3:25I'm a I'm going to test it out this is

3:27actually designed to clamp and this can

3:31actually be taken off this ring can be

3:33taken off and this can be flipped around

3:35and it can be used to sprint now this is

3:39a additional piece here that you can

3:42take off which holds pieces of pipe for

3:46you and you can actually clamp a piece

3:48of pipe with this and this will unscrew

3:51so you have a regular clamp like I said

3:54this can be used to clamp or this one

3:56can be used to spread this is a good

3:58idea now this is a particular brand as a

4:01strong hand and they've got a nice line

4:04of tools

4:04another bar clamp that I have I have a

4:07while this brand it's called a bets in

4:09that's just a name brand I'm not

4:11endorsing it because there's a lot of

4:12good brain

4:13out there that make them Marklin now

4:15these are typically made in Germany

4:17they're really a good brand got a good

4:19quality metal - I've never been one even

4:22though they are this really hardened

4:24type tempered steel here it's never been

4:29on me or broken now this is another

4:34Betsy tool that I've got here and this

4:36is a clamp that I use now it's a

4:38combination of a locking plier and

4:40sliding bar clamps and the great thing

4:43about this is I can hold it with one

4:45hand I can bring this up here and it

4:48will automatically adjust down for me by

4:50grabbing and once it gets down I can

4:53clamp it tight but this clamp is not

4:55cheap but it's not that expensive either

4:58if you budget for it this is a good tool

5:01to have in your arsenal clamps because

5:04I've used this a lot of times where I

5:06couldn't use anything else now this is

5:09another clamp this is actually more in

5:11line with what I would call a jig now

5:13this makes a perfect one ninety degree

5:15angle now they've got new ones out that

5:18will actually give you a third dimension

5:20where you have a post coming up straight

5:22here but this will hold in kind of

5:25tubing round or square so that you can

5:28actually weld it down the center here

5:30now Scott some slots in the back here

5:32where you can mount it permanently or

5:34semi-permanently

5:35so that you can set up a hole jig system

5:37for building something up now even a

5:41little locking pliers like this is

5:44sometimes helpful in welding you just

5:46need a little tiny piece held a very

5:49delicate part and if you're TIG welding

5:51these really come in handy a lot of

5:53times I've got two pair of locking

5:55pliers here that are actually main brand

5:59pliers they've been around the shop a

6:02long time I've had them for years and

6:03I've used them in all kinds of weather

6:05and activities but you actually have to

6:09type noses here this is actually more of

6:12a mechanic's type nose here I use it but

6:15it's got this round

6:17feature here in the throat here so they

6:19can grip something around this is more

6:21of a gripping sheet metal while you're

6:24welding or two pieces of plate metal

6:26it's got this straight

6:27John's here and it holds a little bit

6:29better but I do use both types if I find

6:33the one on sale about another set so I

6:35don't really care what type throat is

6:37here if they're cheap enough I'm going

6:39to buy it now this is your standard

6:43locking clamp now any welding shop you

6:45walk into you're going to see these

6:47hanging everywhere um this is just a

6:49standard tip here and you can actually

6:52buy them with the adjustable tip here

6:56like this so that they'll actually

6:58conform them around the metal or the

6:59surface that you're working but I

7:02wouldn't be without these and these will

7:04hold a lot of pressure you can adjust

7:07the clamp down here to accommodate the

7:10size of metal that you have and when you

7:12clamp down and you want a little bit

7:14tight so when you lock it it will

7:16actually grip very tight now you can get

7:18these clamps like this in a lot of

7:20different sizes now I've got this one

7:22it's a little flimsy out here this is

7:24not a really expensive clamp but I

7:26bought it for one particular use in one

7:28time and I've actually used a lot more

7:30than I thought I ever it doesn't take

7:32any way out of here though that's

7:33obviously something things we need to do

7:36is really make sure that you have in

7:38your budget because you can go out buy a

7:39handful of what if that's and blow your

7:41entire profit on a job if you need to

7:43have something to complete a job one of

7:46the things I recommend is go cheap first

7:48cheap will get you by like I said I've

7:50got this pair of pliers back here I

7:52bought there were seven bucks at the

7:54time I'm bald now you know what I've

7:56made several hundred dollars with them

7:58probably just in particularly jobs that

8:00they've done for me but the problem is

8:02is that they don't work real well but

8:05they've gotten me by now I'm not doing

8:07name brand Park in the rest of these

8:09clamps except in my small cheap seat

8:11clamps and I'm going to tell you these

8:13right here you can buy a whole handful

8:15for 25 bucks and this is a good way to

8:18get started no they're not

8:20is not convenient but you can have

8:22plenty of clamps to hold what you need

8:25when you're welding starting off cheeks

8:28fine but eventually you're going to want

8:29to get a better more expensive clamp set

8:32and I would recommend looking in and

8:35survey the product reviews of these

8:38clowns before you buy them and the other

8:40thing I would say to you is save the

8:43money buy a good clamp when you can

8:46afford it use it as a little

8:48self-indulgence

8:49because it's going to come in handy and

8:52it's going to pay for itself sometimes

8:54it's going to pay for itself the first

8:55time you use it now I'm not going to

8:57pretend that this was an exhaustive

8:59lesson on glowing clamps I wanted to

9:02give you a good idea of what's out there

9:03that's easily available to you without

9:05posting your arm and leg know what a

9:08clamps aren't something that we sell it

9:10everywhere but it's something that a lot

9:12of our customers have questions about

9:14and college from time to time asking us

9:16how to get started for that same spirit

9:19if you have any questions about welding

9:21our products or even welding clamps give
