0:00Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers Dynasty Podcast with Borg, Betts, and a baller.
0:30Welcome in!
0:36It's Wednesday, September 16th here, the Fantasy Footballers Dynasty Podcast.
0:42I'm your host, Kyle Borg, and I'm joined by Matthew Betts and the man without pants, Mike Wright.
0:49Kyle's juice today.
0:51I love it.
0:53What's the caffeine intake going on over there?
0:56I've had a few, but I mean, I'm just excited to talk about my guys.
0:59My Christian Watson is one of those dudes that I've just been just pounding the table for,
1:05and I'm just glad that we get to bring him up.
1:06Yeah, he had a pretty good week.
1:08I can see how somehow in Kyle's spreadsheets, he's like, you know, and expect fantasy points.
1:13He really overperformed this week, and so we should expect regression next week.
1:16It's not going to work.
1:18Dude, just watch the tape, Kyle.
1:20Just watch Christian Watson on his crossers.
1:21Could you even imagine fading that player this year?
1:25Could not be me.
1:26Could not be Mike.
1:27It was Kyle.
1:28So the only thing that could have made this better is if Colston Loveland didn't goose egg.
1:32But Colston Loveland did indeed goose egg, which hurt.
1:35I know Kyle was happy about that.
1:36But man, what a fun week, boys.
1:37Week one, it was great.
1:39You know, Mike, the pants store?
1:41They had us in the first half.
1:42They had us in the first half.
1:43Not going to lie.
1:44Yeah, they did.
1:44But Ken Walker, baby.
1:46Oh, man.
1:47Yeah, Ken Walker has, the machinery is sold off.
1:53It's just scraps.
1:54It's just parts.
1:55There will be no more production on pants moving forward.
2:00The profits are just going out of business.
2:05It's not a great thing.
2:06Terrible timing as well because winter is coming very quickly.
2:09Yay.
2:10Yeah, no, you know what's going to keep me warm?
2:12Kenneth Walker fantasy points.
2:14I will drape them upon my pantsless body.
2:20Just covered in points.
2:22Just covered in points everywhere.
2:26We will talk about week one because it was high scoring.
2:31And yet there were also some players across the board where you're left like asking questions.
2:34So on this episode, we will rewind some film, talk about some players behind the scenes, and then hopefully kind of solve a couple of issues of how do you not overreact?
2:44I think I'm going to talk to this performance, especially in Dynasty.
2:47Like, I know we're going to talk about some tight ends later on, but I have Isaiah Likely on a team.
2:52I'm trying not to overreact.
2:55Yeah.
2:55But I'm happy.
2:57Like, I'm happy that I had this player that I hoped would be something.
3:01I think we talked about him a week before.
3:03Like, hey, this is what I'm looking for.
3:05This is what I hope can happen.
3:07Same thing with Dalton Kincaid.
3:08Like, another player, it's like, ugh, if you've been holding on, you should be very encouraged.
3:13And yet it was just a one-week sample size.
3:15So talk about some of those players.
3:16We're also going to talk about your Eagles bets because they got the win.
3:20But, like, I'm assuming people in Philly didn't feel like they actually won the game.
3:25I mean, it was pretty ugly, if we're being totally honest.
3:27Like, outside of a couple of shot plays and some big runs, the offense kind of looked like they did last year from a just lackluster standpoint.
3:34And I'm interested to kind of go back through, like, a lot of the first-time play callers on those teams.
3:38Like, we saw what happened with the Chargers and the Eagles didn't look awesome.
3:41And there was a couple other offensive coordinators and play callers, Davis Webb, you know, with the Broncos, that really had some rough outings.
3:47And I think back to the conversations a lot of us had last year, if you guys recall, on the Jaguars after, like, the first three, four weeks where it was like, something is missing.
3:54It doesn't look right.
3:56It doesn't feel right.
3:57It's like, okay, well, Trevor Lawrence is learning another system, and it's going to take some weeks for this team to kind of gel together.
4:02So I'm not panicking on those offenses yet, obviously.
4:05Nobody should after one week.
4:07But you at least want to file it away and say, hey, does it improve, you know, in weeks two, three, four as we kind of progress?
4:12Speaking about the Eagles, like, they get the Titans this week.
4:14So it's like, okay, if they can't really get something going this week, then you maybe start to get some pause and some concern.
4:19But it's only one week of data, and so you want to react, but obviously not overreact.
4:24If you want access to all of our premium in-season tools, our ultimate dashboards,
4:28if you're trying to manage all the dynasty leagues that you're in, you kind of forget which rosters,
4:33we want to help you out.
4:34You can go to jointhefoot.com, join the community.
4:37You get access to everything we have, including, like, as we're updating rankings for the week,
4:41we're also updating all the different reports.
4:44Like, I was looking at our red zone report today of just reminding myself, like,
4:47who got the carries inside the five for this team?
4:50What did they do?
4:50And that'll continually update throughout the season.
4:53So ultimate dashboard, that's how I update my teams.
4:57That's how I make sure I don't have, you know, certain players in the flex.
5:00But all of that at jointhefoot.com.
5:03But we're going to do something we do in-season.
5:05If you've been riding with us all summer, once we get into the season, we do this every single week.
Weekly Rewind
5:14Weekly Rewind.
5:18I love that that drop found a home on this podcast.
5:21Because we don't get to use it anymore.
5:23I think that's what this podcast specializes in.
5:27Maybe it's just me.
5:29What?
5:29The leftovers?
5:30The leftover drops.
5:30We find a home for the leftover drops.
5:33Yeah.
5:33Yep.
5:34That's fine.
5:34We make sure they don't go to waste.
5:36But I think it's more to remind Mike every once in a while.
5:39He's like, oh, yeah, I made this.
5:42That does.
5:43I've made a lot of drops over the decade working for the footballers.
5:48Every week, what we do on the podcast, we rewind the film.
5:51We watch tape on a specific player or situation to dive deeper and to kind of just talk behind the scenes.
Rico Dowdle & Jaylen Warren
5:57It's one thing to box score scout.
5:59But we kind of want to talk about what we saw on film.
6:01Mike, I'm going to let you start us off first with a backfield that was meh.
6:06Yep.
6:08I watched the I alluded to this on the main fantasy footballers, but I wanted to see like what happened with Rico Dowdle and Jalen Warren of the Pittsburgh Steelers, because almost everything was like, you know, the the the simple box score stuff is it was pretty even.
6:25What had happened?
6:26Warren was more productive.
6:28And I'm like, OK, well, let's figure out what happened.
6:32And the truth was.
6:35Both of them couldn't get anything going like the vast majority.
6:40So I think Jalen Warren had like a couple good runs and then the majority of his receiving work came on a triple or on a trick play, you know, where it's like the the fake end around.
6:51We hand off and then we give it back to Rogers and then Warren picks up, you know, the bulk of his receiving yards.
6:57But it was it was brutal.
7:00The offensive line in to what I could see was not getting anything going for these running backs.
7:06They were throwing a lot like the surprisingly the Steelers because we're still you know, the brain still thinks of the Steelers as the Mike Tomlin Steelers.
7:16This is not this is Mike McCarthy and neutral pass rate.
7:21They were way up there until, of course, the Denver Broncos were like, what is what we can run the ball?
7:27We're not going to.
7:28Why would we ever do that?
7:29We're just going to throw.
7:29So and so my biggest takeaway was that was really embarrassing in a game against the Falcons and Cooper Rush.
7:41And Kyle, you can chime in like.
7:43I was I'm not expecting the Falcons at the end of the year were like.
7:48That was one of the defenses like I don't want to play my running backs against the Atlanta Falcons.
7:52I don't feel like they made the moves to become that type of a team.
7:58It looked like it in week one.
8:01It's interesting because last year the Falcons were like out of nowhere, a great defensive front in terms of like pressuring the passer.
8:09And they did the same thing this past week against Aaron Rodgers.
8:11But like with an elevated pass rate, you kind of wanted to see more explosive plays across the board from the Steelers.
8:18And even with Jalen Warren, it's like when he was on the field, he saw targets.
8:23He wasn't pass blocking and then he didn't really do much with it.
8:26But yeah, I would say the Falcons are not a team that you should take very seriously at all.
8:30Yeah.
8:30And then the the funnier part to me was all I'm watching are I'm watching the running back.
DK Metcalf
8:40And if DK Metcalf was just like spotlit in this entire matchup of mistake, mistake, like.
8:51So I guess you can try and spin it and be like, you know what?
8:55The pass rate over expected like the neutral pass rate, that type of stuff.
8:59The fact of that Metcalf was getting these opportunities and getting them where he should have caught them.
9:05But he did not.
9:07So it was a very, very funny week one.
9:10Perhaps, you know, like we talk, we don't talk air yards very much, but it's like it is another one of those variables where if someone has tons and tons of air yards, but they're not coming through.
9:20It's like, well, if they just catch a couple of these passes, then all of a sudden this player is very good for fantasy football.
9:27Maybe that's what happens for DK Metcalf.
9:30But it was very, very fun for me to watch week one of a player that I'm not very fond of as being a like an upper echelon wide receiver.
9:40Although he's paid like one and he's supposed to be one.
9:43And a lot of people think he is.
9:45So that's really what stuck out for me is how bad Metcalf was.
9:48And then that nothing was neither of these running backs could get anything going.
9:52It wasn't one was worse.
9:54It was just nothing was there.
9:56So good.
9:57What do you think about the Pittsburgh running backs?
9:59Well, DK Metcalf sucked in this game.
10:02Dude, you should go.
10:03You should fire up the all 22 and just do DK Metcalf targets and be like, dude, he could have had a bazillion points.
10:11He had 39% of their first read targets, which is a wild number.
10:16Michael Pittman had 9%, by the way.
10:18So it's just like very different in terms of designed first read type plays.
10:22And yet Michael Pittman finished with more yards.
10:24And that's just like it's it's hilarious to think about his role.
10:29Crazy.
10:29But you will have spike weeks.
10:31That's the problem with DK Metcalf is like you're going to keep being drawn in by the name.
10:36And hopefully they keep the pass rate up.
10:38But that is funny.
10:39Like I watched the running backs, but this guy's catching a stray.
10:43And the schedule does kind of open up here.
10:44I mean, obviously, you'd say the schedule is great in week one.
10:47They should have put up points against the Falcons who just lost another defensive lineman.
10:51They had no edge rushers like come on.
10:53But this week, it might be tough sledding against the Patriots, potentially kind of a slog.
10:58But then we get the Bengals, the Browns, the Colts, the Bucks, the Saints and the Browns again heading into the bye week.
11:04So there are games here, I think, to take it back to the running backs, where, you know, one of these guys might be able to establish themselves as the lead guy and really be able to kind of carve out maybe RB2 role, but probably more flex type value.
11:16But just wanted to point that out.
11:18Like, don't overreact.
11:19It's one week, but there are matchups coming up in the next couple of weeks where maybe we can get some more data that helps.
11:24Who do you guys want rest of season, Dowd or Warren?
11:30It's tough after one week.
11:31I know.
11:32I still think it's Warren to me.
11:36I mean, I've loved Warren forever.
11:37I just think he's an underutilized, talented player.
11:40But, like, for Rico, the thing that is so intriguing about him moving forward is we've seen him come into multiple backfields with different coaching staffs and just kind of take the job at certain points.
11:50And obviously, Chuba came back last year and things changed.
11:53But he did it in Dallas with Mike McCarthy.
11:55He did it in Carolina last year.
11:57And Warren has had these opportunities with the Steelers, and they kind of just have never really given him that.
12:02Now, it is a new coaching staff.
12:03But my point there is, like, Rico has shown he can take, you know, touches and compile them across the season, whereas Warren's kind of just been more of like a spotty flex type spike guy.
12:13Yeah.
12:13And Rico had the snaps.
12:15It was 39 to 25 from my source, 21 to 13 in terms of routes.
12:21So, like, Rico ran more.
12:22I know that the targets per round run is going to be way higher for Warren because he got targets on his limited routes.
12:29But it's like you want a guy who's out there.
12:32And so if I'm picking right now, I'll stick with the guy who's on the field more in week one.
Bucky Irving
12:40I'll go with Rico.
12:40I went with another running back who really didn't see a ton of work, Bucky Irving, against the Bengals.
12:47He had eight carries, which you're like, oh, my gosh.
12:50Like, did he do anything with eight for 45 with a rushing touchdown?
12:53Saw seven targets, seven receptions, 48.
12:56He did fumble one time.
12:58But just, like, as a runner.
13:00And then the workload was the main thing that I wanted to, like, come back to.
13:03So his first two carries were nine yards, nine yards on cutbacks where it was like, okay, that's the Bucky we remember.
13:10He could read the defense.
13:12The next carry, Baker, ended up being the lead blocker, which I do not recommend for your franchise quarterback.
13:17But that's what he did.
13:19Yeah, but he will do it.
13:20And then a 10-yard touchdown.
13:22He went and burst out the outside.
13:23But he had runs of nine, nine, ten, and eight, which sounds like, okay, that's fine.
13:29That was four runs.
13:30That's fine.
13:30That's great.
13:31That was four runs of eight plus yards.
13:33That was more than any week he had last year.
13:35So, like, it was a small sample size.
13:38But inside the red zone, he was the dude.
13:40And then I think the thing that we all worried about was Kenneth Gainwell taking away passing work, taking away red zone work.
13:47But Bucky, you know, had more routes, more targets, and a career-high 25% target share.
13:52So, only 15 opportunities and only eight rush attempts.
13:56But because targets are worth so much, I was very encouraged by watching Bucky.
14:02I just wish they would have given him more because it was working.
14:05But they just got so far behind.
14:06Baker fumbled a couple times.
14:08But I came away saying, like, okay, this is the Bucky we saw at the beginning of last year.
14:13I agree.
14:13Yeah, I thought he looked good.
14:14I thought he looked like he had his burst back.
14:16And a lot of the talk on his injury throughout the offseason was more shoulder-related than the foot.
14:21So, I think this was the expectation.
14:23But obviously, it's good to actually see proof of concept with that.
14:26I am really interested to see what happens in the next probably two-ish weeks when Sean Tucker comes back.
14:32Because he didn't play in this game.
14:34Do they give him the ball inside the 10-yard line?
14:35Or does Bucky keep that role?
14:37And if Bucky keeps that role, and he does add, I don't want to say secondary pass-catching work.
14:42Because I think the pass-catching volume might be game script-dependent.
14:47It'll change based off of, can you game well in a certain week and what have you.
14:49But, like, earning targets in, you know, first and second down, as Kyle has pointed out many times over the years,
14:56is more valuable than a true, quote-unquote, third down back.
14:58If he can keep those and maintain most of those goal-line touches,
15:03I think Bucky can have a really, really solid year.
15:05But the question mark becomes what happens when Sean Tucker comes back,
15:08and we'll probably get that information hopefully very soon.
15:11The Buccaneers last year were one of the, like, they ran 11 personnel, I think the third highest in the league.
15:17And in week one, they were at 83%.
15:19So it's like, what they're running out there is three wide receivers,
15:23Cade Otten doing his cardio thing.
15:25Yeah!
15:26Oh, Ted Hurst gets a shout-out before Cade Otten.
15:30Yeah, he probably does.
15:31Yeah, I mean, it's way more fun to talk about Ted Hurst,
15:34too.
15:35I mean, you guys, he ran, from my data, I'm seeing two fewer routes than Abuka and Godwin.
15:44Yeah, 78% of the routes.
15:47Yeah, just, but not as much opportunity.
15:53That's okay.
15:54I mean, I guess three.
15:55Godwin only had four.
15:56It's pretty wild.
15:58We'll go through some other rookie wide receivers later.
15:59But, like, to get on the field and see 70-plus percent of snaps, like, or 70-plus percent
16:05of the routes in your first week in the NFL is really, like, encouraging stuff.
16:11That's not normal.
16:12It is.
16:12It is.
16:13It's not normal for day two, guys.
16:14You guys want to hear a wild stat here from what I'm seeing?
16:17I mean...
16:17Oh, please.
16:18I'm open.
16:18Get ready for this.
16:19Get ready for this one, guys.
16:22Ted Hurst.
16:22Yeah!
16:23Three targets.
16:24Chris Godwin.
16:26Four targets.
16:28Kate Auten.
16:30Five targets.
16:31If these trends continue.
16:33Emeka Ebuka.
16:35Six targets.
16:36Bucky Irving.
16:37Seven targets.
16:38What is happening here?
16:40How does that happen?
16:41This is the goal.
16:44We got it.
16:44Cooper Rush sees that, and he's like, yeah, buddy.
16:46That is what we are doing.
16:48Turns out, ball out every play.
16:50Baker is just massive OCD.
16:52He's like, I need this in line, dude.
16:56I need my statistics very linear and numerical.
17:00When they show them on the bench in between series on the iPad, you think they're watching
17:04film and plays?
17:04No.
17:05They're looking at, in the spreadsheet, how many targets does each player have, and how
17:08can we correct this?
17:08They're getting in their seat of, okay, guys, line up in terms of who's gotten the targets.
17:13I think that's what McDaniel would actually end up doing.
17:16And one day tell people, hey, I actually did this, where it's like, let's get Gadsden out
17:21there.
17:22I think Gadsden had like two targets and like five routes, but like that kind of stuff.
17:25Like he's, he's sick enough to do it.
17:27I'm, I'm cool with that line of thinking.
17:29That's fine.
17:30Of course you are.
17:31Um, speaking on Ted Hurst, I know we're going to get to the other rookie wide receivers
17:34later, but I did want to note Jalen McMillan was out for this game.
17:38I think Ted Hurst has a chance if he is good, which we don't know.
17:42I mean, we'll see.
17:44Um, I think you can change your inflections.
17:46You can say, yeah, based on how he does.
17:50So if it's really good, you can laugh.
17:53But if it was kind of like, like if he's, you know, on a Monday pun day, you can just
17:58drop it down and just, you know, just a little murmur.
18:01But what I was going to say is if he can produce enough and keep that traditional kind of X receiver
18:07role in this offense, I think he could hold off Jalen McMillan the entire year.
18:10The opportunity is there while McIlland is banged up, but we'll see what they do when McIlland
18:14comes back.
18:15Um, speaking of rookie wide receivers, I mentioned on last week's show when we were
18:18with Jason talking about just like, I just want to see the Dolphins offense.
18:22Like, can they, we're not, they're not going to be great.
18:24We know that.
Malik Willis and Caleb Douglas
18:25But can they be functional and can they support Devon Achan?
18:28Can Malik Willis be that kind of late round quarterback that people were targeting because
18:31of the rushing upside?
18:32And do these rookie wide receivers actually play every down?
18:35And can we maybe have some diamonds in the rough here for Dynasty?
18:38And Caleb Douglas, I think has answered the question.
18:40Yeah, it's possible.
18:41I mean, Kyle shared this stat with me.
18:44His 94 receiving yards was the third highest week one receiving yardage line for any day
18:48two wide receiver over the last decade behind only AJ Brown and Terry McLaurin.
18:55So basically what Kyle is saying is Caleb Douglas is on the same career trajectory and you can
18:59put it in ink.
19:00Um, but obviously very encouraging seven targets for Douglas, uh, 81% of the routes.
19:05He earned a 26% target share.
19:06I thought he looked the part, um, really quick off the line, able to create separation.
19:10Definitely liked what I saw on tape with him.
19:12So I'm encouraged by that.
19:13My concern at the same time with the Dolphins offense, obviously there's many concerns, but
19:20like overall there's some Justin Fieldsy type things to the offense.
19:24Not necessarily that they play the same way with Malik Willis, but when you have a mobile
19:28quarterback who is going to scramble and take sacks, which he did in this game, it's going
19:32to basically limit the passing pie every single week where some of these dropbacks are not
19:37turning into actual pass attempts.
19:39And when Bobby Slobuck wants to be run first team, that could become an issue down the line
19:44where, you know, I'm excited about maybe what Chris Bell can be in a month when the, when
19:48the snaps ramp up, if Douglas can take another step forward, that would be great.
19:52I know some people were hoping on Greg D to maybe be a sleeper tight end this year for
19:56those things to come to fruition.
19:57He has to take less sacks and the offensive line was built as maybe like this kind of
20:03sneaky unit.
20:04They did not look great in week one.
20:06And maybe that was part of Malik Willis with a new system and all that sort of stuff, but
20:09just wanted to highlight, there was some good, there were some not great, but I'm definitely
20:13encouraged by Caleb Douglas, at least in the first game.
20:16Granted, it was the Raiders.
20:18They're going to be a weird team to just project week to week.
20:22So just looking at how they like ran their offense, 2% of their snaps was in 12 personnel.
20:270 and 13.
20:29So it was basically like, Hey, we're going to do three wide receivers, or we're going
20:33to put a fullback on the field.
20:34Cause that's what McGinnor used to do.
20:36And then a 74% pass rate is awesome.
20:39If you have Malik Willis and you're hoping that you get the volume, but yeah, I think
20:44that feels as a perfect example of like, there were some weeks where he ruled, like he was
20:48just awesome.
20:49If you had him in your lineup and there were other weeks where you got negative points because
20:53the offense was so bad.
20:55Um, Mike and I were actually talking through Douglas Bell and Washington earlier.
21:00Yep.
21:01I feel like it's going to like flip week to week.
21:04We're like, Washington's going to give you the PPR points out of the slot.
21:07Maybe run the most routes, but I think Douglas could be a better long-term value.
21:12I don't know, Mike, do you have any thoughts you want to add?
21:15Yeah.
21:15It's between those two.
21:17I think it, it is tough to know, you know, cause like if you're playing redraft, Caleb
21:22Douglas is, he's in play for one of the higher, more priority pickups at the wide receiver
21:27position.
21:28A rookie in game one, putting up five for 94 is very exciting.
21:31Like you, you should be excited about that.
21:36Uh, it, uh, it's not a, but it's, you know, just a, on the other hand, Malik had, uh, eight
21:44targets.
21:45He only caught three of them, three for 53.
21:47Honestly, for, for his week one is, is not bad.
21:52It wasn't the, like what we're used to of him just getting super short stuff, you know,
21:58like how he'd kind of been used to with, uh, with McDaniel.
22:01So it, it's not horrifically, it's not useless routes that he's running.
22:07He was out there, I think for basically every single route, um, and, uh, led the team in
22:13air yards, obviously, cause he, well, he didn't come down with all of them, but it's like, if
22:18Malik catches one more pass, then he's, he's right next to Caleb Douglas in terms of total
22:25production.
22:25So I think there, there's definitely leagues out there in dynasty leagues, especially where
22:29those two guys are, you're, you're going to be looking at, maybe I can actually play this
22:34guy, Chris Bell, the snaps are just, they're too low, uh, in the meantime, like they will
22:40ramp up, you know, so it's very exciting to see a talent, a player of his talent level
22:47this fast from the recovery of the ACL, but it's still going to take some time before I think
22:52that he's really a, truly a full-time player, uh, out there on Sunday.
22:57And it's like, so it's almost like Malik Willis, if you're thinking long-term, you know, maybe
23:04redraft it's, it's going to be bumpier, but at least in dynasty, it's like this guy just
23:11could be on a, you know, like the arrow is pointing up.
23:15Cause we need these wide receivers to acclimate 220 yards, 39 rushing yards.
23:21Like that's not horrifically bad.
23:23You know, we, we throw a couple of touchdowns in there and then that's a fantastic week.
23:27So I'm, I'm still optimistic for Malik Willis, but because of the makeup of the wide receiver
23:34room and what we saw on Sunday, it will take some time, but I do, I'm still very interested.
23:41He's just going to always end up to me better fantasy quarterback than real life quarterback,
23:46which puts him in the fields category of saying we also, I think we said last week,
23:51bets, like, I don't think this guy's their starting quarterback in 2027.
23:55Yeah.
23:57Probably not, but I mean, things change, you know, you never know what could happen at
24:01the end of the year where they just happen to be one draft slot out of the right spot
24:05to pick their guy or whatever it is.
24:06But, um, yeah, most likely not going to be set up his contract is how I would say it.
24:12The one thing though, just to kind of wrap this discussion up on the dolphins that I at
24:15least was encouraged by for our game that we play for fantasy for this year is I mentioned
24:20last week, like when you're down two scores in the second half, some coaches will just keep
24:25running the football to be like, this is what we do.
24:28And this is our identity.
24:28It's like, okay, well, you're, you're not even trying to win the game.
24:31At least Bobby Sloick in this game, let them throw the ball.
24:35Now, granted in the first half, their first down rush rate was very high.
24:38He's always been a run, run, pass type of offensive coordinator when games are close,
24:42but at least when they were trailing, they were like, Hey Malik, you're going to drop back.
24:45And that's when you saw the scrambling and some opportunities for the pass catchers.
24:49So if we can still get that in the second half when they're losing, I think for fantasy,
24:53this team could be not great.
24:55Cause your team implied total every week is going to be, you know, 15 and a half, but usable
24:59in like double flex leagues.
25:01Now just blind yourself from like being last in past success rate this past week.
25:05Don't worry about that.
25:06Don't worry about that.
25:07I guess it's going to take some time.
25:09Uh, contract wise, I'm looking at it.
25:12I mean, teams are more and more willing to eat dead cap than they have been.
25:18This team, this team loves team.
25:21Sure.
25:21That's what they love doing.
25:23Contract wise.
25:24It sure seems like he would be the guy.
25:26I don't disagree with like, if they're in the top three or top two and people are firmly
25:34convinced at the end of the college year that it's like, no arch and Dante and maybe someone
25:39else are like, these are can't miss guys.
25:40You have to take one.
25:41But otherwise like the, the cap hit that Willis will have on the team versus his dead cap.
25:49It's upside down.
25:49Like, so it w it will cost them almost twice as much in terms of dead cap than of other
25:56than just keeping him.
25:57So he's probably around next year.
Overreactions for Week 1
26:00Let's take a quick break and then we'll move on.
26:02We are going to look into a couple of week one situations and try, try not to overreact.
26:20I'm not going to do what you all think I'm going to do, which is just flip out.
26:25In preparation for the show, I did some film watching, you know, the, the segment we just
26:32did, but I also rewatched that whole scene.
26:35Grind in that tape.
26:36Yeah.
26:36But I rewatched that whole scene from Jerry Maguire too.
26:39Of course.
26:40To, to get pumped.
26:41Yeah.
26:41Just to like get myself on the right like mindset of just, you know.
26:46Of, are you leaving the business Kyle?
26:48What are you saying here?
26:50Who's with me?
26:51Anybody.
26:52An announcement live on the show.
26:54Kyle.
26:54It is so great in that scene, which, you know, some kids would be like, what movie?
26:59But he just, he holds out like they, they do stretch it a little longer and then Dorothy
27:03Boy just jumps in.
27:04So it was nice.
Christian Watson & Matthew Golden
27:06It was nice to go back to that movie.
27:07Um, I don't want to overreact to everything and you shouldn't, but there are some situations
27:14where we just need to talk about them and we got to talk about Christian Watson, right?
27:17We have to.
27:18Please.
27:19I've been begging you guys to bring him up, but.
27:21I don't know if my button's going to work.
27:23I'm going to try.
27:24I'm never going back to the pants store.
27:27I like that drop because that means Josh has to do more work on the podcast.
27:31Yes.
27:32Mike, keep hitting the drops.
27:34We'll do.
27:35Sorry, Josh.
27:35I do want to talk about the Packers passing offense.
27:39I had to say that slowly because part of the Christian Watson narrative that we all talked
27:46about, but more, more importantly, just for Jordan Love was that if this guy gets an opportunity
27:50to throw, I think there could be more in the passing pie for all of these guys.
27:56And even the last couple of weeks, I remember I went back sometime this summer and watched
28:00all of Matthew Golden film and watch Matthew Golden in the playoffs.
28:03And we at least left the light on saying, Hey, there's room.
28:06They cleared the deck moving on from Wicks and Dobbs that maybe he could be more of a
28:10thing.
28:10So, Betts, I know you were looking at some of their pace metrics, but like the Packers
28:15offense played very different in week one than we've seen in the last year or two.
28:20Yeah.
28:21Basically, a lot of the summer and the offseason was the discussion around like two things
28:24with the Packers.
28:25The first was would the routes actually condense for their big three with Golden, Watson and
28:31Reed?
28:31And of course, Tucker Craft.
28:33And the answer was yes.
28:34So we got that check.
28:35And I'm not, I don't think that's one of those things that we should gloss over.
28:38Like, I think that is here to stick moving forward.
28:40So as far as reacting, I buy that from week one.
28:43The other thing is we were talking about a lot of people were like, you know, this could
28:47be the year that they actually let Jordan Love, you know, run the show and not kind of be
28:51so conservative.
28:52And maybe that's Josh Jacobs with the legal situation, which I'm sure a lot of it is.
28:56But at least in week one, they did check that box as well.
28:59They were second in pace.
29:00They were 12th in neutral pass rate.
29:02So thinking about the ceiling on Jordan Love this year for fantasy, you know, especially
29:06in super flex leagues where he's probably your quarterback too.
29:09I think you are going to have some really nice spike weeks out of this offense in the
29:12pass game.
29:13And obviously with the Josh Jacobs kind of lingering issue going on here, that might
29:18continue more and more into the season.
29:19And if they have success offensively, I think Matt LaFleur might let that stick.
29:24So I'm excited about that.
29:25Obviously, if you got Watson, you're very excited.
29:27Craft will get, you know, stronger as the year goes on.
29:29But really, the two takeaways for me were the pass rate and then the route share and the
29:34usage for Matthew Golden was awesome in week one.
29:37And the box score wasn't incredible, but the underlying metrics were great.
29:40No, the box score should actually excite you.
29:43Yeah.
29:44Because you can't trade for Christian Watson now.
29:48It's done.
29:50Whoever had him was probably a truther.
29:53And then week one happens and it's immediately an ADR touchdown.
29:57You're like, yep, we're good to go.
29:59But Matthew Golden, higher target share, more routes.
30:06Like this was, we have, you know, justifiably been not the biggest supporter of Matthew Golden.
30:16It didn't like, didn't like him as a prospect.
30:19Year one was just like, what, what are we doing here?
30:22Why, why?
30:24Like you have Jaden Reed.
30:25What are you doing with Matthew Golden?
30:28Looked good, man.
30:29Looked good.
30:30Was very, very exciting to, to see what he did.
30:32And he's still dynasty.
30:36You know, it's hard doing these shows of like my, my brain blurs between dynasty and redraft.
30:40Uh, but it's like, you cannot get Watson.
30:45Matthew Golden, it's possible.
30:47I think it's possible that people might just look at the total points and go, hmm, it's kind of nice.
30:54Maybe I can, I can get rid of Matthew Golden now.
30:57I think, I think good stuff, good stuff is coming for Golden this year.
31:01I flipped in a team where I'm rebuilding.
31:04I flipped Marshawn Lloyd.
31:05This was a week ago.
31:06So I flipped him for Matthew Golden because this team needed running back.
31:11So I understood their need.
31:13And for me, it was like, I is excellent.
31:15I like having Lloyd.
31:17I obviously thought I had nothing from there, but it was one of those things where this team
31:20needed running back.
31:22It met each other's needs.
31:23And now I, on a rebuilding team, that's where I like Matthew Golden.
31:26And that's where we kind of talk this off season.
31:28Like we hated the production profile.
31:30We don't think he was supposed to be a first rounder.
31:31And yet you can still have an opinion on a player and say, this is what changed.
31:36One of the things that I talked about last week was what I'm, what I'm looking for is,
31:39is a player involved inside the red zone.
31:42And last year he was like off the field all the time.
31:46I brought up him.
31:47Luther Burden was one of those guys too.
31:49Just like always off the field when they got inside the red zone.
31:51He had six routes run inside the red zone this past week, which is crazy considering
31:55he didn't top three routes run inside the 20 in any game last year from week six on
32:00even the playoffs.
32:01So like they get in close, it's golden, it's Watson.
32:05And, you know, maybe they get into 12 personnel.
32:08The weirdest thing though.
32:09So awesome game for them.
32:11The Packers lose.
32:13And then you look at some of the other stuff with the team and you go, holy crap.
32:17The Vikings blitzed them on 74% of Love's dropbacks.
32:21And their offensive line was in shambles because Brian Flores is really good at his job.
32:26So, yes, I say I'll say that won't always be the game plan as they're moving forward.
32:32Like it won't always look like this.
32:34When he was blitzed, it was like actually Jaden Reed was like the hot route that, you know,
32:38the guy that he targeted first.
32:40But this, this is an offense you want to buy into for our strength of schedule metrics.
32:46The Packers wide receivers have the easiest rest of season schedule.
32:51So I love that.
32:53Can I read you the next like five matchups?
32:55Yes.
32:56Please.
32:57At the Jets.
32:58Against the Falcons.
33:00At the Bucs.
33:01Against the Bears.
33:02Against the Cowboys.
33:04At Detroit.
33:05Home against Carolina.
33:06That's through week eight.
33:08I think this offense could be one of those offenses when we look back in late October and be like,
33:13you needed Packers this year to have a good start in fantasy.
33:16I mean, I think it's wheels up for this offense.
33:19What?
33:19So I didn't get to watch all the game live.
33:22I went back and watched all the routes for the guys.
33:24But like something in that game flipped where there was a point, you know, where it's like
33:29the Packers have control of this game.
33:31And then I look up later and I go, holy crap.
33:35They're down like two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
33:37Well, there was, I saw someone had tweeted about it.
33:39I can't remember off the top of my head, but someone, maybe it was Sharper, somebody like that.
33:46But the O'Connell completely flipped what he did at halftime on offense.
33:51And it's, it was a big change.
33:55Like, you know, like heavy, I think it was like heavy 11.
33:59And then they went, they brought the beef in, in, in the second half.
34:03The beef boys.
34:05Yeah.
34:05You need, wait, you need big beef boys sometimes.
34:08So that change was humongous.
34:11And I, I probably a huge spark that, that flipped the momentum of the game.
34:16And then the offense was finally able to do stuff.
34:19That is probably something we need to always factor in.
34:22Like they had a game plan with Kyler Murray that they wanted to install.
34:26And they've been installing for weeks.
34:28He gets hurt.
34:29They have to adjust.
34:30And I know they finished being dead last neutral pace.
34:33So in the second half, you know, they flipped the script.
34:36Wins throws three touchdowns.
34:38I think it was only like 130 yards, but still like.
34:41They figured out a way.
34:42And that's what, and that's just kind of comes back to Kevin O'Connell is one of the handful of guys that we say, we trust you no matter who the quarterback is out there, except for Max Brosmer.
34:52Like I, I.
34:53And J.J. McCarthy.
34:54I didn't want to say his name.
34:56I just wanted to kind of wave and move past, but.
Eagles Offense & Saquon Barkley
35:00Yeah.
35:00Yeah.
35:01Now Packers, we should be excited for the passing offense we're going to see.
35:05Let's go to the Eagles.
35:07Because it was a close win, a two point win.
35:10We saw the Sean Mannion offense for the first time.
35:15And the offensive line just was bullied the entire day.
35:19Jalen Hurts was under pressure on 49% of dropbacks.
35:22So Betts, you can give your homer takes and then Mike and I can kind of bring you back to earth.
35:28I don't know if I have any specific homer takes other than it didn't look good.
35:33I mean, you think about what the conversation was all last year.
35:37And it was like, is the offensive line regressing?
35:39Are they injured?
35:40You know, what's going on with Hurts?
35:41There was just kind of all those conversations week in and week out.
35:44And we didn't really get any answers because the offensive line played pretty bad in this game.
35:48And Landon Dickerson is their left guard.
35:50He's been placed on IR, was playing through injury in this game.
35:52So, I mean, the offensive line film evaluators out there on Twitter were having a field day with his tape from week one.
36:00It was brutal.
36:00So maybe him being out because he's not healthy is kind of a blessing in disguise in the short term.
36:05So we'll see.
36:06But I will say there was two things with Sean Mannion's offense that I thought were encouraging.
36:12The first was pre-stamp motion.
36:14They were among the league leaders in week one.
36:16So that's great.
36:17And the ability to hit some shot plays.
36:19You saw Dontabian Wicks get loose.
36:20You saw Dallas Goddard get loose.
36:21Saquon still ripped off a long run.
36:23But in general, the down-to-down consistency was pretty abysmal.
36:27And what I was discouraged by for two factors for the offense for fantasy.
36:31One, they were up in pre-stamp motion, as I said, was great.
36:34But they were 27th in play action rate.
Makai Lemon
36:36And when I think about, like, the two easy buttons you push as an offensive coordinator are play action and motion.
36:41And he only did one of those two things.
36:43The other one was when they did get a lead in the second half.
36:47We've seen this with the Eagles in recent years.
36:48But we also saw it with LeFleur and Green Bay, where Mannion comes from.
36:52They were willing to sit on the lead and just bleed the clock down.
36:55And for fantasy, whether it's your team, if you have Eagles, or whoever they're playing in the second half, if they're going to do that and sustain drives, play volume will get nerfed.
37:02And obviously, fantasy points will get nerfed.
37:05So, some good, some bad.
37:08Not sure how much stock to put into each of those things.
37:10But like I said, they do get the Titans this week.
37:13And the Jets were efficient enough against that defense, which certainly has issues.
37:18Mike, you got any thoughts about, like, Saquon was one of those players where in the first half, I thought he was going to break a big one.
37:24And then he was basically just asked to pass block the entire second half.
37:28Yeah, really low on the team routes.
37:33I mean, watching that game, I would say, like, really disappointing.
37:39Like, a really disappointing game for Philadelphia.
37:42They should have beat the crap out of Washington.
37:44Instead, it's a very close competitive game.
37:49Like, Devontae Smith, this is week one.
37:53Let's go set the tone for the season of, we don't need A.J. Brown.
37:56You got me.
37:56I'm Devontae Smith.
37:59And then it's three for 53.
38:02Like, so that was just disappointing.
38:07Really, really, that's how I feel about this game.
38:12Encouraged for Wicks.
38:14Yes.
38:14His is a little, like, don't get over your skis with Wicks.
38:20You know, because it's two catches.
38:22Turns into a bajillion points.
38:25We love all those points.
38:26And, like, the fact that if you got Wicks, you know, deep buried on your dynasty bench,
38:32that feels pretty good.
38:34That this is probably a player that, in a pinch, you can put in at the flex position
38:38as he's just running, like, A.J. Brown type of a role in this offense.
38:46But, I mean, I guess the panic alarm.
38:49I'm not panicked on Smith.
38:50Just disappointed.
38:51But are we, like, with Barkley of, you know, it was like a lot of people were like, hey,
39:00we're going to bounce back this year.
39:02Everything's going to be perfectly fine for Saquon Barkley.
39:04If the offensive line is not fixed, it will not be fixed for Saquon Barkley.
39:10Yeah.
39:11A lot of the yards before contact bros were out.
39:14Kind of just highlighting that and highlighting just, like, where he was met behind the line
39:18of scrimmage.
39:18I think overall, this offense tried a bunch of things in the first week.
39:27And, like you said, a couple of shot plays worked, which opens up play action, which opens
39:31up, you know, some of those opportunities, hopefully down the road.
39:34And then they also tried a bunch of screens.
39:36Like, that's where, you know, Lemon gets his, you see his yards per out run.
39:40It ends at negative .18, which breaks my chart.
39:44But, like, Smith, Lemon, and Wicks.
39:47Barkley was negative as well.
39:49They didn't do so hot there.
39:50But they kind of split up the targets in the first reads of just trying a little bit of
39:54everything, which can work over time.
39:56But I think for fantasy, we're like, I want massive usage out of Saquon.
40:01I want massive usage out of Devonta Smith.
40:04And it just didn't happen.
40:05So hopefully over time, that kind of sorts itself out.
40:08Makai Lemon, it was funny interviewing him after the game.
40:13They're like, so how did you feel your first game went?
40:15And he's just kind of, you know, doing his little thing, going back and forth.
40:19Giving this really broad, general answer where I think someone would be like, hey, man, it
40:24wasn't good.
40:25It wasn't great.
40:28Yeah, the lemon trees are raining.
40:30We're down bad.
40:32Yeah.
40:33Honestly, I'm not worried about him either.
40:36Yeah, yeah.
40:36You should not.
40:37When you miss all of that time, then you can't expect.
40:44Well, I mean, I can expect not negative yards.
40:47I will say that.
40:48But overall, don't panic on Lemon.
40:51Everything will be fine.
40:53Remember from his film, it's like, yes, he's a slot player.
40:57So 64% of his routes were slot.
40:59But like USC, he was getting the shot plays down the field and winning those contested
41:05catches.
41:05So he's so much more.
41:06We just didn't see it the first week.
41:08So like, you know, don't overreact to Makai Lemon.
41:11OK, please don't do that.
41:12Even though I saw a bunch of tweets that were like him and Contarius Tony are the only guys
41:17to do this in week one.
41:19It was probably me, though, who put that out.
41:22I muted you on Twitter, so I wouldn't know.
41:24Nice.
41:24That's cool.
41:25So let's take a quick break and we'll go through some more.
41:38Next, I want to talk about some tight ends in a positive light.
41:42I feel like we just kind of shared a couple of negative things about the Eagles.
41:44Sorry, Betts, despite winning.
Juwan Johnson
41:47But some tight ends that were either in new roles or just accelerated roles, Isaiah Likely,
41:52Dalton Kincaid.
41:52And then it wouldn't be a Dynasty podcast if we didn't talk about our boy, Jawanson.
41:57Jawan Johnson.
41:58Oh, that was close.
42:02Not great.
42:03A lot of lineups?
42:05I don't know how tuned you were.
42:07Kyle, you had like some dad duties.
42:11Oh, man.
42:12I think it was a touchdown in the fourth was his first catch.
42:15I rewatched that game.
42:17Also, a lot of plays.
42:18So it took a while to rewatch the game.
42:20And I go, this isn't working out so well in the first half.
42:25No.
42:26Dude.
42:26Shuck was so bad.
42:29So bad.
42:30And then he ends up with the most passing yards in the week.
42:33So, I mean, we're in, guys.
42:37Shuck daddy is taking the league by storm.
42:39Betts and I on the DFS Embedding podcast, we kind of recapped that game.
42:43But it's like, that's like, if you want end results, you look at that game, you go, sweet.
42:47Look how many routes they ran.
42:49Look how many plays they ran.
42:50Look what all they did, all the yardage.
42:51And then actually sitting down to watch the game and go, this game did not go how we thought.
42:56I will say, Kellen Moore is good at his job.
43:00And I just think the way that he shuffles people in and out, like between Johnson and
43:06Vele and Olave, they were like, hey, you can run in the slot.
43:10We'll manufacture touches for you.
43:11And just kind of like, obviously Olave is the dude.
43:15But like all three of those guys can be used in creative ways where opposing defenses can't
43:20just be like, well, you're the slot wide receiver.
43:22You know, you're the Demario Douglas of this team.
43:24So this is what you do.
43:25It's like all three of those guys can kind of cycle in and out.
43:28So, Jwonson, you got to be excited that he's basically a wide receiver.
43:32Yep.
43:33And I think as long as Tyson's out, you just keep rolling him out there.
43:37And honestly, I would start all these guys.
43:39I would start, I mean, obviously Olave.
43:40But I think Vele is like in a double flex, totally fine, especially in full PPR.
43:45And the same for Jwonson.
43:46Like as long as Tyson's on IR, the targets are going to go to basically these three players.
43:53So we love that for fantasy, especially in an offense that will play fast.
43:56Yeah.
43:57Mike and I are just, you know, chatting all day about Vele and how smart we are for starting in week one.
44:03We played him in redraft, Kyle.
44:05It was awesome.
44:05I started him in the league.
44:06I found this really niche stat just to make ourselves feel good.
44:10But he was tied for the league lead in first read targets when his quarterback was blitzed.
44:14Obviously, they had 80 plays.
Isaiah Likely & Dalton Kincaid
44:16But still, like he's going to be valuable for the short term.
44:19I think that's good.
44:20Let's talk about likely and Kincaid because I think.
44:23Also, long term, if Tyson is who we think he is.
44:26No, no.
44:27The dynasty people like me need Tyson to be alive.
44:33Yeah.
44:33No, that's what I'm saying.
44:35Oh, okay.
44:36I'm saying if Jordan Tyson is who we believe he is as a player, put that level of talent in this offense.
44:45I mean, that is so exciting.
44:48And overall, just like if you're a Saints fan, it sucks that you didn't come out with the victory.
44:55But you went toe-to-toe with the Detroit Lions in week one on the road and had a chance.
45:03You're a two-point conversion away from stealing a victory from a team that has true Super Bowl aspirations.
45:09Where you're like, I hope we can compete for the division.
45:12The Lions are like, if we don't win the Super Bowl, it's a failure of a season.
45:16That is very exciting for that team.
45:18You do know that the Saints are tied for the division lead right now.
45:21I do know that the good old NFC South never lets us down.
45:27There you go.
45:28In terms of being stinky poop.
45:31Yeah.
45:31Let's talk about Likely and Kincaid, who have a lot more value in dynasty leagues.
45:37Likely was awesome.
45:38I got to flex him in a home league, and I needed it.
45:42I went to bed, and I woke up with Victor.
45:44It was amazing.
45:44But he was right behind Trey McBride in terms of target share at the tight end position in week one.
45:51And then Kincaid, we got a boost as well.
45:55Where it's like, you're getting more routes.
45:58The yards per hour run stuff has always been good.
46:01It was 5.91.
46:02But they used him in motion.
46:04They did a lot more 13 personnel.
46:06Like, I think the trajectory of the Bills out from under Sean McDermott, I feel like Joe Brady kind of got to be a lot more creative in how he used Kincaid.
46:16And so, like, both of those guys, I am excited and not just – I don't think I'm overreacting.
46:23I think these guys are going to be things the rest of the season.
46:26I'm with you.
46:27I'm in full agreement of that the – Isaiah likely, I'll start with him, of just – Jackson Dart was very impressive in this game.
46:35Like, he seemed to be not a wild man.
46:39He seemed very much in control.
46:42You know, Malik neighbors being back, it's a humongous thing for this team.
46:46But it's like that – the likely drumbeat over the offseason was like – it was there.
46:54It was just kind of faint.
46:55You kind of had to put the – you had to get a glass and put your ear on the glass and then put that to the ground so you could hear it.
47:02But it really – he felt, you know, if you're following the show by – as we were approaching the season, it was like, man, it really just – the vibes and everything you're hearing of, like, likely is going to be the number two target for this team.
47:16And it was – you know, the pushback was fun and easy of Harbaugh being likely's coach last year telling us he's going to be a pro bowler.
47:26And it's like, you barely used him last year.
47:30Why should we believe you this time?
47:32I do.
47:33My chips are all in.
47:35And I think Isaiah Lakeley is going to be – likely and Dalton Kincaid are the late-round tight ends from this year.
47:43It's week one, but I'm ready to call that already.
47:47Nice.
47:47Yeah, I agree with you.
47:48The Giants played a great game from start to finish.
47:51They were awesome in that game.
47:52So on Dalton Kincaid, I don't know if, Kyle, I've done anything else on the Giants, but on Kincaid, I did want to note – I thought it was so interesting that basically when McDermott was there and Joe Brady was the OC, they kind of went ultra run heavy, right?
48:08Which was like – their game plan was like, you know, this kind of wide receiver rotation with some Kincaid, some Shakir, some splash plays here and there from the other guys.
48:16But largely, you couldn't count on the wide receivers.
48:19Obviously, DJ Moore comes in and Joe Brady in his first game as head coach completely changes the identity of the offense.
48:25Their neutral pass rate was 9% higher than what their average was last year.
48:29So obviously, the play color is the same.
48:31It tells me that likely the overall philosophy top down was McDermott saying as a defensive-minded head coach, let's be a little more run heavy.
48:39And you saw them trend more pass heavy.
48:40So if we can get the passing pie to go back up to what we saw from the insane Josh Allen passing seasons of, you know, three years ago or whatever it was, then I do think the Kincaid thing can stick.
48:51And also, DJ Moore can stick moving forward.
48:53So I think if you've got those two guys, you've got to be excited about what they did on the road in Houston.
48:58Great defense.
48:59When you look at their personnel stuff, like it says that 40% of their snaps were 13 personnel.
49:05Like whenever we talk about like heavier, you know, like, you know, the teams are running out two or three tight ends.
49:11It's like, yes, but one of those was Dalton Kincaid, who is a wide receiver essentially.
49:16Like I'm looking at his snaps.
49:18He had 42 snaps.
49:1855% of them were either in the slot or out wide.
49:26He also took a snap in the backfield.
49:27It was like, he's not a normal tight end that we're throwing in there as like an extra dude, as like an extra blocker that you just bring in.
49:35And now you have 12 or 13 personnel.
49:37So I look at the way the team functions and I think they see him alongside DJ Moore as their one-two punch.
49:44It's still weird that James Cook does not see the insane receiving work that he had in college.
49:51Yes.
49:52It's a weird thing.
49:53Like it's just, and I don't, I'm not going to point the finger at Josh Allen and say he doesn't throw the running back.
49:58It's just, it's not a huge part of their game.
50:01And yet it's Kincaid.
50:02It's Moore.
50:03And I know Moore had the big play, but I would be very encouraged that the pass volume, or at least the, the, the need to throw the ball.
50:12They were at 62% this first week is a very different than what we've seen.
50:15Right.
50:16Where it's like early downs.
50:17We're running, we're running, we're running.
50:19So Dalton Kincaid or likely who would you rather have in dynasty?
50:25I think I personally would go Kincaid, but I think it's close.
50:29Oh man.
50:31Let's see.
50:32So likely is 26.
50:36Man.
50:37Kincaid, just so you know, is Mike and I's tied in on our legal record team.
50:41It is.
50:42And I'm very, I'm very happy, especially where we got him in the draft.
50:48Yes.
50:50Man, that's, it's so funny.
50:52It's like the, the, the lower snaps player for the elite quarterback versus like the number two option for an up and coming quarterback.
51:03That's a really tough choice.
51:05I, in a full PPR, if I'm going to give a cop out, I think I would take Kincaid.
51:09In the full PPR?
51:12Yeah.
51:13Oh, that's fun.
51:14I think likely we'll have more receptions at the end of the year.
51:17You think so?
51:17I think I would, I would think it would be Kincaid.
51:19Well, if it is, then holy crap, he's going to be really good.
51:24Break the tie.
51:24I'm, it's tricky, man.
51:30I mean, everything, everything went perfectly well for the Giants in the first game.
51:35Let's see what happens.
51:37Is it the Dallas, did the Dallas defense just stay completely broke?
51:40Right.
51:40And Dart, I mean, not to take anything away from Dart.
51:42Dart was awesome.
51:43He was one of the best quarterbacks in week one.
51:44But like, he played a pretty flawless game and we've seen some ups and downs in his young
51:48career.
51:48And what, just what does the Giants offense look like if things are not going perfectly
51:53to plan where Nagy and Giro can kind of run heavy personnel and play, like dictate the
52:00game and play from ahead.
52:01Like what happens when they're just from behind and they have to abandon things and it goes
52:05chaotically.
52:05So let's get more data to answer that question.
52:08But if I had to pick right now, I'd probably pick Kincaid.
52:10I guess I.
52:11I think you've swayed me on, on Kincaid.
52:13They did that on the road at, against Houston.
52:17And I mean, this, this matters so much, but Kincaid now playing with one arm sleeve.
52:22I mean, the swag through the roof.
52:25The aura.
52:25That changes everything, Mike.
52:26I mean, you know, you have a, you have a son that plays football.
52:28I know.
52:29I've got my boy.
52:30He's playing high school tackle football now and the aura and the drip.
52:35It is very important.
52:37It means everything.
52:38It's everything.
52:39It's everything in all those sports.
52:40I will say that the fact that he can't wear, you can't wear a tinted visor.
52:45Oh, he's so mad.
52:46Like he wants, he wants me to, he's like, every time we go to, to a sporty store, oh,
52:51dude, dad, can we buy the tinted visor?
52:53I'm like, you can't even play it.
52:54It's like, yeah, but I'll just put it on for practice.
52:57We're just going to be putting a visor on and off your helmet every, every weekend.
53:02Like get out of here.
53:03We're not doing that.
53:04Baseball has an obscene amount of accessories.
53:07An obscene amount because pros have every single thing known to man and the kids want
53:12it to.
53:12Um, I will add this about the bills.
53:15Like we saw more passing, but like, let's say the schedule.
53:19I mean, they have the lions this week, which is going to be an awesome game on Thursday night,
53:22but they will have some games down the stretch where it's like, they're going to run the
53:27ball when the weather gets cold and things change.
53:30Like we know they're going to go back to some of that, but they have an interesting schedule.
53:32Detroit chargers, new England Rams.
53:36It's going to be tough to run the ball on some of those teams.
53:38So hopefully we continue to see some passing volume.
53:42Let's finish up the episode by talking about some rookie wide receivers.
53:46And I think for this podcast, we've been with people from scouting the players to talking
53:53about the combine to where they're going to get drafted.
Rookie WRs
53:56They get drafted.
53:56So I feel like we've walked with a lot of people through the ups and downs of the scouting
54:01process.
54:02And then you have week one and it either confirms your priors.
Carnell Tate
54:06If you didn't pick that player, like, oh man, obviously I didn't take Carnell Tate.
54:10So, you know, the Titans are terrible.
54:12Or you are a Denzel Boston truther and you're like, look what he did.
54:16And it was like one bomb touchdown at the end.
54:19So I did the, the terrible, terrible thing.
54:23I went back and watched the Titans film.
54:25Oh man.
54:27Why?
54:28So, Kyle, you didn't have to.
54:31So, well, I, I have Carnell Tate on one of my redraft teams, but I just, I, I like the
54:35player.
54:35I think we all like Carnell Tate when he's on the football field.
54:38And I watched the first drive.
54:39I go, Hey, this isn't bad.
54:41And then nothing else happened the rest of the game.
54:44And I pulled up their game logs.
54:46It was field goal.
54:46Punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, touchdown at the end.
54:52Guys.
54:52I think Carnell Tate's fine.
54:55I think he's going to be fine as a player.
54:58I have questions about Brian Dayball and I have questions about Cam Ward.
55:02Oh man.
55:03The, uh, the talent versus situation draft conversation is getting kicked right in the
55:09nards right now.
55:10It, in my, uh, first read only league, first read targets.
55:13He was awesome.
55:1432% of the targets.
55:16They, they, watching that game live was, oh, it was, it was, it really hurt my heart.
55:26Like it really did of like, people were so excited for Carnell Tate and they were like,
55:33towards the end of the year, there was at least something from Cam Ward.
55:35You know, it was, it was not, I don't think it was just a poop through the entirety of the
55:41season.
55:42We saw some things were like, okay, okay.
55:44Cam Ward can improve.
55:46Oof.
55:46We're back to square one of, well, he's got to improve again.
55:49I mean, 4.4 yards surpass attempt against the Jets.
55:53Cool.
55:54Tells you.
55:56Everything you need to know about how the game went.
55:57Don't, if you didn't watch it, don't bother.
55:59It's not good.
56:00Um, I, there's a couple of things I'll say on this.
56:02I, I was optimistic about the day ball offense.
56:06I have several question marks.
56:07It's one week, but I have many doubts and question marks at this point.
56:11The other thing is Robert Sala brother.
56:13You got, you cannot be punting on key situations on fourth down with your team down, you know,
56:2013 points or whatever it is late in the third quarter.
56:22How are teams still doing this?
56:24Like you are giving up win probability every time that happens.
56:28And he did it twice in the second half.
56:29So day ball's on notice.
56:31Kim Ward's on notice.
56:32Robert Sala is on notice.
56:34I just think surrounding circumstances for this team is not good, man.
56:37Not good.
56:38Cause if you'd said that to Sala, he would give you a wedgie, punch you in the nose and call
56:45you a nerd.
56:46He absolutely would.
56:48And he would be correct.
56:49But, but the math says.
56:51So just seeing that, I was like, and I had flashbacks to, if you guys recall last year when, um,
56:58his name's escaping me, who took over for the Titans?
57:01Mike McCoy or whoever it was.
57:04Oh, did you say he, is it he who took over last year?
57:06You're talking about after Callahan was fired?
57:08Yes.
57:08But there was like a play in the Colts game where Cam Ward's like screaming at the interim
57:12head coach.
57:12Like you got to go for it, Mike.
57:14And now Robert Sala is doing the exact same thing.
57:16You know, one year later where I don't know.
57:18It's just, it's not good.
57:20It's not good.
57:21I will say Tate looked like his burst off the line of scrimmage was awesome.
57:26There was a couple of plays where I was just like, if I'm just watching him as a player
57:29and how does he get off the line?
57:31He was only put in motion on four of his routes, which I was like, come on, man, this
57:34is, this is a do it all player.
57:36And they just didn't use him in that way.
57:38So it made me feel like kind of proud of like our, our grandpas, like Aaron Glenn and Frank
57:43Wright.
57:43That's, that was my takeaway.
57:45I was like, all right, dude.
57:47I hope, I mean, things probably aren't going to work for that duo, but for week one, watching
57:53Aaron Glenn smile with, he had the Gatorade towel on the neck.
57:55I mean, the vibes in New York are through the roof.
57:58Both teams are one to know, Kyle.
57:59It's great to be in New York right now.
58:01We'll see if that changes soon.
58:02But yeah, I thought that was funny.
58:04They're like a buddy cop duo, you know, Glenn and Reich.
58:08That's, that's what it feels like to me.
58:10Hey, I did see a really fun end around to Kenyon Sadiq at the goal line.
58:15Yeah.
58:15I mean, Frank was in his bag in this game, Kyle.
58:17And it worked.
58:17He saw you call him an old white man with no motion.
58:20And he, he took notes and said, watch this.
58:23Did you see their motion rate?
58:25No.
58:26Was it bad?
58:26It was actually good.
58:27Okay.
58:28Good.
58:29Let's go.
58:29Frank.
KC Concepcion & Denzel Boston
58:30Frank, Frank responded.
58:31Um, the Browns wide receivers.
58:34So Concepcion Boston, I feel like Concepcion did exactly what I thought he would do, which
58:39is they're going to involve him a bunch of ways.
58:41Yeah.
58:41He did same thing.
58:43Somehow he did exactly what I thought he would do.
58:46He did exactly what Kyle thought he would do.
58:49And, but I was like, I'm not drafting him.
58:52I want, I mean, not, I'm not talking rookie drafts.
58:55I'm just saying like this year, it's, it's not going to work.
58:58There's just no possible way with Deshaun Watson that it can work.
59:03And I, that's fine.
59:04I agree with that.
59:05But we would say that Deshaun Watson will not be the starting quarterback for the entire
59:09season.
59:10And no, he, he will not.
59:11But what does it work with should do her?
59:15Does it work with Dylan Gabriel?
59:17I mean, they're all going to get a chance.
59:20You get a chance.
59:21You get a chance.
59:22We will get tail and green at some point this year.
59:24Which is wheels up.
59:26I'm fine with that.
59:26Yeah.
59:27That's fun.
59:28Are you sure you're fine with that?
59:30Yeah.
59:31For, for DFS in week 18.
59:33Oh, for him.
59:33Yeah.
59:33As a mobile quarterback.
59:34Sure.
59:34But for your pass catchers.
59:36Yeah.
59:37Concepcion was in the slot 73% of the time.
59:39Boston was mostly outside.
59:41He did catch that bomb touchdown, which fun fact, rookie wide receivers of the last decade
59:46to catch a touchdown and see 90 plus percent of snaps in their first career game.
59:50It's just McLaurin, Egbuka and Boston.
59:53So fun little fact.
59:54I'm going to be a good one.
59:55I'm going to be a good one.
59:56I'm going to be a good one.
59:56Yeah.
59:57Just tuck that away.
59:59Dude, frame it.
1:00:00If you need to.
1:00:01First career game, frame the stat head screenshot that I took right here.
1:00:08I thought these wide receivers did what we thought they were doing.
1:00:11I'm serious.
1:00:12I need to at least say something encouraging that's non-Watson related that says these wide receivers
1:00:18in their first game.
1:00:19Their roles were what we thought they were.
1:00:23Yeah.
1:00:24I mean, that's, it's fair.
1:00:26And it is, the Cleveland Browns is just, it's a graveyard.
1:00:31It's pure death.
1:00:32We are one week closer to the Deshaun Watson era being over.
1:00:35I mean, Harold Fannin, three targets.
1:00:40I'm seeing 42 snaps, three targets for Harold Fannin Jr.
1:00:45What are you doing?
1:00:46You know what would be the most refreshing thing in the world is if Todd Malkin came out,
1:00:51he's brand new here, right?
1:00:53He has, he has a chance to win over the fan base and just be totally blunt honest.
1:00:56If he was like, Deshaun Watson is not an NFL quarterback right now and he is not our long-term answer.
1:01:01So we are not going to play him, but obviously something is coming from the top down to be like,
1:01:04start this guy.
1:01:05I also thought it was wild that, you know, the reason they claimed that they were starting Deshaun
1:01:09is because it was on the road and he could handle pre-snap stuff and manage the crowd on the road.
1:01:14There was multiple times where the play clocks went down.
1:01:16They had to take a timeout to avoid a penalty.
1:01:18They took penalties at the, at the snap.
1:01:20Like it's over and everybody in your city knows it.
1:01:23Just do the thing to win over your fan base.
1:01:26You know what I mean?
1:01:27Like, it's just ridiculous.
1:01:27That's the, that is truly the hope that we have one more road game of Cleveland and you
1:01:33hope they're just, they're sacrificing Watson for these situations and they'll go home.
1:01:39You can't go into your home opener with Watson 0-2 as your starter.
1:01:44The crowd will rightfully and justifiably destroy him when they, they announce him.
1:01:51And then the, the kind of the last one here, I have a note on the Browns.
1:01:55It's not wide receiver related.
1:01:57It's just the hilarity of Todd Monken who we love.
1:02:01We love the Todd Monken offense.
1:02:03But my man, you can have a bell cow running back.
1:02:07It's okay.
1:02:08They lost their pass catching running back, Dylan Sampson, who's a fine player.
1:02:12And they're like, should we give it to Judkins?
1:02:14No.
1:02:15Raheem Sanders needs to go in there and soak up a serious amount of snaps.
1:02:19What is that?
1:02:22He's always had two running backs, man.
1:02:23What are we doing, Todd?
1:02:24It's the two running backs, but also they were just so far behind so fast.
1:02:29Like, like of all the games that you could have watched, at least the Titans was like close-ish.
1:02:35The Browns, you just knew it was over.
1:02:37It was like over right away.
1:02:38The first interception where all the linebacker did was like take five steps back and stand there.
1:02:44And it was like, and then he just, he didn't really move.
1:02:47He just put his hands up and the ball went right into his hands.
1:02:50It was amazing.
1:02:50I also thought it was, and we can, we don't have to keep doing this because I'm, this is actually therapeutic, by the way.
1:02:56I do like doing this.
1:02:57We got to get this out.
1:02:58I got to get this off my chest, guys.
1:03:00The Browns were never going to win the game, of course, right?
1:03:02Like once the game started, it was over basically.
1:03:06But it was early in the third quarter.
1:03:07You're down 30 points.
1:03:08Because why are you kicking a field goal at like the 10-yard line?
1:03:12Like what even is the point?
1:03:14What are we actually even doing?
1:03:16It's just completely unsearious.
1:03:17Not to shut out.
1:03:18To not get shut out.
1:03:19Come on.
1:03:20Which is just, that's an embarrassing.
1:03:23I feel like an NFL team, because they do.
1:03:26They do this a lot.
1:03:28Where like they're just, they're getting shut out, shut out, shut out.
1:03:31And then they're like, well, we're just going to take a field goal here because we want to get points on the board.
1:03:35Losing with, they didn't lose with three because they got the bomb touchdown.
1:03:38But it's like, I feel like losing with that field goal, that give up field goal is far more embarrassing than a team being totally shut out.
1:03:46Because it's like, not only were we shut out, but then we were cowards at the end.
1:03:51Playing to lose by a fewer than, to three fewer points.
1:03:56That was the goal.
1:03:58Ugh.
1:03:59They're poor kickers.
1:04:00Like goes in, does his job.
1:04:03Andre smites.
1:04:04It's like his first year.
1:04:06And he's like.
1:04:06He's like, cool, I did it.
1:04:07I did my job and everyone hates me.
1:04:10And these podcasters are like, you idiot.
1:04:13What are you doing out there kicking?
1:04:16But yeah.
1:04:17Stupid Browns.
1:04:18Hey, we'll check in next week.
1:04:19Maybe that'll be, you know, Browns watch.
1:04:21Come on.
1:04:21Maybe.
1:04:22All right.
1:04:22I can't do this every week.
1:04:24Yeah.
