0:03It's time to India now. The biggest
0:04story here is a collision at sea. That
0:08too between Indian and Pakistani
0:09warships.
0:11It's led to a lot of speculation online.
0:13Diplomats have been summoned. Protests
0:14have been issued.
0:16But what exactly happened at sea?
0:18Well, here's what Indian sources are
0:20saying. The incident happened on Tuesday
0:22evening. An Indian navy ship was sailing
0:24in the northern Arabian sea. It was on a
0:26routine surveillance mission. But which
0:28ship?
0:29We don't know that.
0:31So, the Indian ship was sailing. That's
0:33when a Pakistani warship began chasing
0:35it. Reports say it was a PNS Hunain.
0:39It's an offshore patrol vessel. The
0:41Pakistani warship was approaching at
0:43high speed. It was either trying to
0:45intercept or follow the Indian ship. As
0:48it got close, the Hunain tried a
0:50dangerous maneuver.
0:53But by then it was too late. Reports say
0:54the Pakistani warship could not steer
0:56away in time. As a result, it grazed the
0:59Indian vessel.
1:02The incident happened in international
1:04waters, reportedly 120 nautical miles
1:06from the Gulf of Oman.
1:09And today the government of India took
1:10action. It summoned Pakistan's top
1:12diplomat in India.
1:14Now, remember neither country has
1:15appointed high commissioner since 2019.
1:18So, India summoned Pakistan's chargé
1:21d'affaires.
1:23New Delhi lodged an official protest
1:25with the diplomat. They called the
1:26Pakistani warship's conduct unacceptable
1:29and unprofessional.
1:31The Indian statement also talked about a
1:32bilateral deal, Article 10 of a 1991
1:37military agreement.
1:39And what does the article say? It says
1:41warships must maintain a distance from
1:42each other, at least three nautical
1:44miles in international waters. This was
1:46mandated to avoid incidents like
1:49yesterday.
1:51And it's not a first. The last such
1:53incident was in 2011. Back then
1:55Pakistan's PNS Babur grazed past an
1:58Indian frigate, the INS Godavari. That
2:00incident happened in the Gulf of Aden.
2:02It led to some damage on the ship's
2:04helicopter safety net.
2:06This time, no damages have been
2:07revealed. Reports say the Indian warship
2:10continued its mission, but the Pakistani
2:12warship had to return to harbor.
2:13Apparently, the collision caused a big
2:15dent on the PNS Hunain. As a result, it
2:18had to sail back. Now, we haven't heard
2:20from Pakistan yet. Even the Indian
2:22statement does not give away much.
2:25So, all we have are anonymous accounts
2:28and information.
2:30The PNS Hunain was commissioned in 2024.
2:33It's around 322 ft and is crewed by 60
2:37sailors. The ship has a top speed of 41
2:40km/h. It is also fitted with heavy guns
2:43and missile launchers. As for the Indian
2:45ship,
2:45we don't know anything about it. Some
2:47officials say it was larger than the
2:49Pakistani ship. The Indian Navy has
2:50deployed frigates and destroyers in the
2:52region. Any of them would be larger than
2:55the Pakistani ship.
2:57So, as things stand, a lot of questions
2:59remain unanswered. The official
3:01government version is tightly
3:02controlled. It reveals virtually nothing
3:04about what happened.
3:06I know there's a lot of speculation
3:08online, but it's best to wait for more
3:10official clarity.
