0:05Hey everyone! Today, we're talking about the present continuous.
0:09Present continuous is used in three main ways.
0:13When you want to talk about actions that are happening right now,
0:18actions that are temporary,
0:20or future plans.
0:24First, let’s review how to form present continuous.
0:28You need three things:
0:31Subject, be verb, and main verb with I-N-G.
0:38Remember this every time you use present continuous!
0:44I am drinking coffee.
0:51We are learning Spanish this semester.
0:55They are having a party on Saturday.
1:01The first way we use present continuous in real life conversations is for actions happening right now.
1:08I am speaking English.
1:12Or, You are watching this video.
1:16Let’s look at some more examples.
1:21I am listening to music.
1:24She is studying for her exam.
1:32They are playing soccer in the park.
1:37Remember, if it’s happening right now, use present continuous!
1:44The second way to use present continuous is for temporary actions or situations.
1:50These are things happening now, but not at this exact moment.
1:55For example: "I'm staying at my friend's house this week."
2:00It’s temporary, not forever.
2:03Or, "He is working on a new project."
2:06It’s just for now, not his permanent job.
2:10Here are a few more examples!
2:15My brother is using my car today.
2:22She is living in New York for a few months.
2:26We are saving money to buy a house.
2:31Temporary situations can last for days, weeks, or even months,
2:36but they’re not permanent, and they don’t have to be at this exact moment!
2:40Finally, we use present continuous for future plans and arrangements that are already decided.
2:51I am meeting my friend tomorrow.
2:58We are going to Hawaii next winter.
3:03Did you see that the plans are already decided?
3:06Let’s look at a few more examples.
3:11I am going to the dentist at 3 p.m.
3:16They are visiting their parents next weekend.
3:21When are you starting your new job?
3:23I'm starting on Monday!
3:27These are all things that are arranged or planned in the near future!
3:32Remember the three most common ways we use present continuous:
3:36Actions happening right now,
3:39temporary actions or situations,
3:43future plans and arrangements.
3:46Try to use present continuous in your next conversation!
3:50It’s a great way to talk about what’s happening now and your future plans.
