0:57Success hey I'm Heather Austin a
0:59university professor turned entrepreneur
1:01and I help job Seekers land their dream
1:04roles with simple actionable strategies
1:06that actually work if you're ready to
1:08level up your job search tap that like
1:10button hit subscribe and let's Dive
1:13Right In so the very first thing I want
1:15to cover when it comes to our eight mus
1:18have profile sections on LinkedIn that
1:20need to be optimized is your
1:22Professional Profile photo so I want to
1:24share with you really quickly a couple
1:25screenshots on LinkedIn your
1:27Professional Profile photo shows up
1:30everywhere right it's going to show up
1:32in your news feed if you decide to
1:34participate in the news feed it's also
1:36going to show up on your main page it's
1:39going to show up if anyone does a search
1:40for you it's kind of like your key
1:42indicator of who you are now a couple
1:45guidelines because I I could talk about
1:47professional profile photos all day long
1:49I want it to be professional in the past
1:51I've said don't do a selfie you know I
1:54mean if you're going to do a selfie I
1:55would rather you use the back side of
1:57your camera and have someone take the
1:59picture for you because the cameras on
2:00the back side are a little bit better
2:02you could do that but just make sure
2:04that you're smiling I'm actually
2:06recommending now kind of like the chest
2:09at least the elbows up so that it's a
2:11little bit clearer that we can see you
2:13keep your background neutral you don't
2:15want like like a selfie from far away
2:17it's not Facebook it's not Instagram it
2:19doesn't need to be some like stylish
2:21selfie right when we're talking about
2:23LinkedIn you have to think of a nice
2:25professional head shot of course dress
2:27up if you can you know I mean in my I'm
2:30wearing a t-shirt but that's okay
2:32because I'm a business owner I can do
2:33that right if I was a job Seeker I would
2:35definitely want to make sure I was
2:36wearing some sort of blouse a jacket
2:38over my blouse whatever if I'm a guy I'm
2:41going to wear like a collared shirt just
2:43look nice and presentable to your
2:45industry and make it reflect a picture
2:48that someone in your industry would have
2:50right now here's the key thing when it
2:52comes to your profile photo is that when
2:55you have a profile photo uploaded and
2:57actually visible now this is a different
2:59profile photo of course I'm wearing like
3:00a jacket now over my t-shirt your
3:03profile is 14 times more viewable like
3:07people are going to go to your profile
3:0814 times more and actually view your
3:10profile and you'll actually receive nine
3:13times more connection requests so make
3:15sure it looks good and make sure it's
3:16uploaded I get a lot of LinkedIn
3:18connection requests every single day and
3:21a lot of people just don't have their
3:23profile photo and with the increase of
3:26spam accounts we don't know who you are
3:28right so make sure you get a nice photo
3:30uploaded now the next part to your
3:33LinkedIn profile that has to be
3:34optimized and I'm going to spend a
3:36little bit of time on this headline
3:37section so get your notes get your
3:39pencil get your get your notebook
3:41whatever you need to do because we're
3:43going to spend a little bit of time on
3:44this is your catchy industry specific
3:47headline now here's the thing I know I
3:49have not mentioned AI at all yet today
3:51but if you have joined any of my live
3:53streams in the past I talk a lot about
3:55using AI to help you with every single
3:59part of your job search and Linkedin is
4:01no different so I'm going to share with
4:02you two free AI tools if you are not yet
4:06using either one of these because I'm
4:08also going to be sharing with you in
4:09just a minute some prompts that you can
4:11go to AI to ask it to help you craft
4:15your industry specific headline so the
4:18very first tool and if you've joined me
4:20before you already know what I'm going
4:21to say is chat GPT so you can go to
4:24chat. openen ai.com to use chat GPT I
4:29think this this is my go-to I don't
4:31really invest in a lot of other AI tools
4:34except for this one because I feel like
4:36this one will give me exactly what I
4:38want if I know how to ask it the right
4:40questions so you can go to chat. openen
4:43a.com this is free you do not need to
4:46sign up for the paid version of chat GPT
4:49the next free version is Gemini so if
4:51you go to gemini.com the reason I'm
4:54sharing this with you guys because in
4:56just a minute I'm going to be giving you
4:58some AI prompts and I want you to go to
5:01these AI tools your AI assistant pick
5:04one of them and I want you to use these
5:06to actually craft your headline I'm also
5:09going to give you a prompt for your
5:11summary so be thinking about these now
5:14which one of these tools do you use or
5:16do you use AI maybe it's for school
5:18maybe it's for work maybe it's to help
5:19you write your emails maybe it's to help
5:21you with your job search do you use or
5:24are you currently using any form of AI
5:26now on to our LinkedIn headline so again
5:29and you have your AI tools that you can
5:31use your LinkedIn headline is one of the
5:33most important features of your profile
5:36I'm going to share with you three
5:37different ways that you can actually
5:39write a really amazing LinkedIn profile
5:42but the thing that you want to keep in
5:43mind here is that your headline is
5:47basically kind of like your tagline
5:49right it's kind of describing who you
5:50are what you do who you help how you
5:53help them and I'm going to share a
5:54couple ways that you can use this let me
5:57give you some pointers here and I don't
5:58have a separate slide for this it needs
6:00to be concise it needs to be compelling
6:03and it needs to be accurate it also
6:05needs to be relevant and it needs to
6:07include keywords specific to your
6:10industry it needs to be tailored to your
6:12unique skills and I don't want you to
6:15use the default headline that LinkedIn
6:17gives you from your current position or
6:19your previous position and I never want
6:22you to use words like actively seeking
6:24so let me show you method number one to
6:29write your LinkedIn headline now this is
6:32the easiest if you don't at least have
6:34this method kind of intact you need to
6:37at least get this method intact and and
6:39if you're a regular viewer of my channel
6:41hopefully you know this method so you're
6:43going to start with your desired
6:44position title and then all you're going
6:46to do is give it some industry specific
6:49hard skills okay so desired position
6:52title with some industry specific hard
6:54skills let me show you an example of
6:55that so here's a couple different
6:57examples let's say I'm a s graphic
7:00designer right so I'm going to say a
7:01senior graphic designer and I'm going to
7:03say specializing in and then I'm going
7:06to give it a list of some of my hard
7:08skills logo design web design brand
7:11strategy and Visual Communications all
7:14of these keywords come specifically from
7:17the industry that I'm targeting now if
7:19I'm applying for a director of public
7:21relations position or that's kind of my
7:23my ideal job title I'm going to lead
7:26with that and I don't even have to say
7:28specializing in I can just say say
7:29campaign management email marketing SEO
7:32and cro so notice how many keywords we
7:35are targeting in just this easy simple
7:38method of our LinkedIn headline now are
7:41you guys ready for your first prompt cuz
7:43this is a good one this is what's going
7:44to help you get your LinkedIn profile
7:47headline in in tiptop shape right
7:51because we are smart we're smart but AI
7:54is even smarter so we want to use AI to
7:56help us with this so our very first
7:58prompt this is specifically if you're
8:01going to be using method one for your
8:04industry specific headline method one
8:07remember which is the easiest I'm going
8:09to go to my AI assistant I'm going to
8:10say hey I'm seeking a and then I'm going
8:13to give it my desired position title and
8:15I have a strong background in and I'm
8:17going to give it some of those industry
8:19specific hard skills could you help me
8:21or can you help me create a LinkedIn
8:23headline that showcases these skills now
8:26here's the thing whatever your result
8:28comes back as you may have to prompt it
8:31a little bit more and ask it a few more
8:34clarifying questions to really get the
8:36headline that you want the other thing
8:39you want to do is make sure that you're
8:41not sounding like an AI bot in your
8:43headline this is just to give you an
8:45idea and give you some more key skills
8:48some more thoughts that maybe you didn't
8:50think of right and your AI friend which
8:53is smarter than we are by like a million
8:56trillion degrees is going to give you
8:58some amazing amazing recommendations
9:00that you can either tailor yourself or
9:03ask it clarifying questions to make it
9:05even better now method number two this
9:08is where you're going to get a little
9:10specific so this is a little bit more
9:12advanced now right so we're not just
9:13going to go with our desired position
9:16title we're also going to go with some
9:18other things and and we don't want to
9:20just list the skills right so this is
9:22where we're going to list our desired
9:23position title the industry specific
9:26hard skills but also the value prop
9:29proposition so when you think of your
9:31value proposition this is the unique
9:33value or the benefit that you bring to
9:36the table the unique value or the
9:38benefit that you bring to a company the
9:40unique value or benefit that you bring
9:42to a position so you really got to
9:44brainstorm that just a little bit let me
9:46give you some examples so I'm still
9:48taking our same senior graphic designer
9:50position and our director of public
9:52relations and marketing so if I'm a
9:54senior graphic designer I'm going to
9:55still list some of those key skills web
9:58design and brand Strate y now I'm going
10:00to pick the ones that I think are the
10:02most beneficial the ones that are the
10:05the most used the keywords that I know
10:07the employers are looking for but then
10:09I'm going to add on the back of that my
10:12value proposition which is creating
10:14visual stories that Captivate and
10:16Inspire so notice I'm still using
10:19keywords in here visual stories
10:22Captivate Inspire I'm still using that
10:24but I'm now doing it in a much more
10:26interest and almost storytelling way now
10:29if we look at the director of public
10:31relations and marketing I'm going to
10:32still have my key skills campaign
10:35management and email marketing and maybe
10:36I'll switch those up depending on maybe
10:38I need to do the cro or the SEO maybe I
10:41need to add a different key skill that's
10:43okay we're going to still have those in
10:45there but then I'm also adding on the
10:47back end of that streamlining operations
10:49for efficient project delivery now that
10:52could even be something that the the
10:54employer wanted in their in the job
10:56description right so you can evaluate
10:58the job job description or job
11:00descriptions if you're applying for
11:02multiple positions and you can Pi pick
11:04out certain things that they're saying
11:06and you can now add that to your profile
11:09as your value prop if you're having a
11:10hard time coming up with one all right
11:12are you ready for the next prompt
11:14because this is going to be for method
11:16two if you decide that you want to use
11:17your desired position title with the key
11:20skills and your value prop The Prompt
11:24that you're going to use is hi and
11:25whatever you can be like hey who and if
11:28you've given your your AI assistant a
11:30name call it its name right I'm I aim to
11:33secure a position as and this is you
11:35could change how you say this even even
11:37use it how you would talk to it I'm
11:39looking to secure a position as give it
11:41the desired position title where I can
11:43apply my and then I'm going to give it
11:45my industry specific card skills let me
11:48make this red really quick because I
11:50want you to know before you take your
11:51screenshot that you have to tailor that
11:53so where I can apply my industry
11:56specific card skills I bring and then
11:58give it your value proposition to the
12:00table how can I best phrase this for my
12:02LinkedIn headline now what I want you to
12:04do depending on the prompt that you give
12:06it or the results that it gives you make
12:08sure it goes back and and you are it's
12:11in that formula that I provided for you
12:13you could even ask it can you write me a
12:17headline that lists my desired position
12:19title my industry specific key skills
12:22and my value proposition there's so many
12:24ways you could do this right so method
12:26number three is similar to Method number
12:29two however instead of the value
12:31proposition we're now going to list a
12:34results driven achievement statement
12:36method two and three are probably my
12:39most favorite right because it just
12:41gives the employer a little bit more
12:44information right rather than just going
12:46with the easiest method which is just
12:48giving your title with key skills let me
12:51show you an example of what this looks
12:53like and we're going to again use our
12:55same job titles so I've seni your
12:57graphic designer and I'm going to use
12:59the same skills web design and brand
13:00strategy but rather than that value prop
13:03notice what I'm doing I'm adding my
13:05results driven achievement statement
13:08Catalyst for 20% boost in client
13:10transactions with 200 plus successful
13:13projects now here's the thing with well
13:15what results driven achievement
13:17statement do I use if you ever attended
13:19a resumé writing um live stream or
13:21workshop with me you know that I have a
13:23very specific formula that I have you
13:25follow to write your results driven
13:27achievement statements those are are
13:29going to be all over your resume they
13:30should actually be all over your
13:32LinkedIn profile as well however when
13:34you're trying to decide which one to use
13:37because we probably all have 10 20
13:39results driven achievement statements
13:41you need to pick a an achievement
13:44statement that is directly pertaining or
13:47relevant to either your industry the
13:49position you're applying for the company
13:52what are they going to find the most
13:54impressive and that's the one that
13:55you're going to use now if we look at
13:58our director of public relations and
13:59marketing position same thing I have the
14:02title I have the key skills but then
14:03notice my achievement statement is
14:06developed comprehensive PR strategy
14:08resulting in a 30% increase in media
14:10coverage now maybe I picked that
14:12achievement statement because they
14:14talked about the pr strategy or maybe
14:17they talked about media coverage or
14:19maybe they talked about whatever it is
14:21that I can find that relates directly to
14:24that position or that company so keep in
14:27mind you might have to play around with
14:28this just a little bit to get it right
14:31so decide method two or three well maybe
14:33even method one if you want to just get
14:35a quick you don't have anything in there
14:37right now and you need to you need to
14:39change it from the default or switch out
14:41actively seeking right now let me share
14:43with you the prompt for this so very
14:45similar I'm targeting the role of
14:47whatever I have expertise in give it
14:50some of your expertise I'm proud of this
14:53results Shen achievement statement how
14:55can I incorporate this into an impactful
14:57LinkedIn headline remember this is just
14:59one way for you just one way for you to
15:03ask your AI assistant how to help you
15:06with that headline now I've shared three
15:09different methods with you when it comes
15:11to the headline plus three different
15:13prompts you may have to go in and add it
15:16add the information that I've given you
15:18today you might have to go in and say in
15:20fact here's here's another tip that I
15:22would recommend and I think this is my
15:24AI assistant does really well with this
15:27if I give it examples so you could maybe
15:29ask it prompt number three and then you
15:31could go in and give it let me pop back
15:33to these examples you could go in and
15:35give it these examples and say here's an
15:37example of a senior graphic designer
15:39written this way here's an example of a
15:41director of public relations and
15:42marketing written this way the thing
15:44where I feel like job Seekers get out of
15:46hand which by the way take a screenshot
15:47of this if you haven't or anyone in that
15:50matter is not knowing the right
15:52questions to ask and not knowing how to
15:55further prompt it right so if you get a
15:57result and you need need a little bit
15:59more clarification do not be afraid to
16:02keep going with that prompt or to keep
16:04going with your questions to make sure
16:06you really get it nice clean concise
16:09keyword heavy and really a magnet to
16:12recruiters and career opportunities next
16:15question for you what's one change so
16:18one change that you need to make to your
16:20LinkedIn headline so based on what I've
16:22taught you about your LinkedIn headline
16:24what's one change that you want to make
16:26so your number one goal with with your
16:29summary I want you to keep this in mind
16:30I don't have a separate slide for this
16:32is that you want to capture your
16:34strengths and your achievements all
16:37while telling an amazing career story
16:40now this is one of the most overlooked
16:41sections on LinkedIn it is probably one
16:44of the hardest to create and basically
16:47you're just trying to tell them who you
16:49are who you help what you do but you
16:51want to do it in a very interesting way
16:53I'm going to share with you another
16:55prompt in just a second to have you you
16:57use AI to help you but let me give you
16:59some guidelines first when it comes to
17:02your about summary it needs to be an
17:04easy to read snapshot with keywords so
17:06we're talking about those keywords a lot
17:08right so you can talk about who you are
17:10you can talk about what you've done you
17:12can talk about what you've done for
17:14someone else you want to keep it short
17:17and to the point we don't want a massive
17:19huge about summary but we do want it
17:22long enough where we get the picture
17:23you've painted a really nice picture for
17:25us you also want to make sure you're
17:27including those relevant keywords in
17:29your industry because this is what's
17:30going to help you show up at the top of
17:32the search results when a recruiter is
17:34looking for your profile or looking for
17:37someone that does what you do I like to
17:38see it in about two to three paragraphs
17:40I'm going to share an example with you
17:42plus a an AI prompt that you can use
17:45right keep your paragraph short two to
17:47four sentences don't give us a whole
17:49entire novel of who you are you got to
17:52really condense it into interesting
17:55short easy to read digestible sentences
17:58right this is really where you're going
17:59to Showcase your professional
18:01achievements your goals and your
18:03interests I like you to include a career
18:05highlight section in this I'm going to
18:07show you exactly how to do that in just
18:08a second it's really similar to a a
18:11career highlights that you would have on
18:13like your resume right now you also want
18:15to include an ex expertise section so
18:17this is a section I still wanted to talk
18:20about this today because I still think
18:22it's impactful however I do want to say
18:25this and when we get to the skills part
18:26of LinkedIn I'll show you what I mean
18:28the expertise section is going to be a
18:30section on the bottom that has your
18:33keywords it's really a way to increase
18:35your keyword optimization I still want
18:37this in here however LinkedIn is now
18:39using a skills-based recruiting approach
18:41and they allow you to add skills which
18:44will show up at the bottom of your
18:46profile if you haven't already done that
18:48yet I still like expertise there and
18:50then skills will show up totally
18:52different right so that's why I kept
18:53this in to today's presentation because
18:55I still want it in there if you can
18:57include a call to action that's amazing
18:59your email address end with how others
19:02can easily reach you some sort of
19:04invitation to connect or collaboration
19:07um and then I also want to see you use
19:09headers and bullet points I'm going to
19:11show you how to do that because LinkedIn
19:13does not give you that option you can't
19:15bold something you can't add a bullet
19:17point besides like a symbol um headers
19:20I'll show you how how I do headers in a
19:22second and then oh show your character
19:24and personality hello that's what it's
19:26all about right this is going to be
19:28really similar well okay I don't I don't
19:30know if it's necessarily similar to a
19:32professional summary on a resume but
19:34you're talking in first person now when
19:36it comes to LinkedIn when you go to your
19:38resume you're never writing I me my
19:40right but when you come to LinkedIn now
19:43you can start saying my biggest passion
19:45I love this I do this um whatever you
19:48can start talking more like you're
19:50talking to someone normally right you
19:52can write it in first person it does
19:54need to be way way way more interesting
19:57than your your resume and it's going to
19:59show a lot more of your character and
20:01your personality so really quickly with
20:03these guidelines and I'm going to share
20:05with you my next prompt in just a second
20:07here and an example type in if this is
20:10doable can you apply these uh guidelines
20:12to your LinkedIn summary type in if this
20:15is doable all right let me show you a
20:17quick example of what this looks like uh
20:19in terms of how your summary is going to
20:21look on your LinkedIn profile so if I go
20:24in and I make all my changes to my
20:25profile I have my very first paragraph
20:27right and notice that I'm t i and and
20:30I'm going to give you like an entire
20:32prompt that you can use and I'm using my
20:34digital marketing example this is just
20:37an example of what it would be after
20:39I've applied those strategies right so
20:41in paragraph one it's a nice little
20:43sentence I'm talking about what my
20:44passion is I'm talking about I'm eager
20:46to help these people here are my
20:48interests um I work closely with so and
20:51so to do this right that's basically
20:54paragraph one paragraph two is giving
20:56more of the backstory about how many of
20:58years of experience I have maybe I'm
21:00going to share my one of my greatest
21:01projects my greatest accomplishments
21:03whatever it is but then notice I'm also
21:06adding in here like a personal statement
21:08in my free time I enjoy horseback riding
21:10and epic snow skiing right we can use
21:13and share information like that on
21:14LinkedIn so keep that in mind now my
21:17professional career highlights notice
21:19how I've written that LinkedIn does not
21:21give you options to add a headline but
21:24notice I can capitalize something to
21:27turn it into a headline that's all I'm
21:29doing here then I'm placing my career
21:31highlights after that your career
21:33highlights are the things that you want
21:35to go into an interview with are the
21:36things that you want to go into a
21:38networking event with are the things you
21:39want to talk to a new potential client
21:41about your biggest projects your biggest
21:44achievements your biggest
21:45accomplishments now the expertise
21:47section notice this please please please
21:50pay attention to this part I'm also
21:52capitalizing expertise and notice what
21:54I'm doing I'm adding hard and soft
21:57skills and mainly hard skills but I
22:00could add some soft skills in here too
22:02that directly relate to my industry that
22:04directly relate to my position that are
22:07skills that a recruiter a hiring manager
22:09a CEO a potential client might be
22:12searching for this just further
22:15optimizes your profile for search
22:17results that's why I still keep it in
22:19there in just a second I'm going to show
22:21you about the skill section on LinkedIn
22:23because that's another little piece that
22:25you're going to pop into your about
22:27section and I'm going to show you exact
22:28ly how to do that and you can reuse some
22:31of those same skills but I like to
22:34repeat them every so often just so it's
22:36showing up on my profile you can repeat
22:39them in different ways you can reword
22:40them I mean stick to Industry standard
22:43right and only you know that based on
22:45the industry that you're in but I still
22:47love that expertise section so with this
22:49prompt This Is Us really tuning into to
22:52our about summary right so I want you to
22:55take what I just showed you the example
22:58that I just showed you kind of the
23:00guidelines that I they that I taught you
23:02right and you can go over to chat GPT
23:03and you could say hey I need help
23:05writing my LinkedIn about summary here
23:07are some key points about me you're
23:09going to give it some Um passion or
23:12interests right give it something that
23:14you're passionate or interested about
23:16give it a professional goal give it your
23:18area of expertise give it some sort of
23:20value addition which again is similar to
23:23your value proposition list a notable
23:25achievement and then give a call to
23:28action so notice what I have in R that's
23:30what you are going to type in that's the
23:32information that you need here's what I
23:34want you to think about when you do this
23:36please please please reference whatever
23:38you get from your AI assistant with the
23:41example that I just shared with you and
23:43I want you to try and formulate and
23:45format it so that you're you're using
23:48see again this is where job Seekers or
23:50anyone using AI gets in trouble is they
23:52just take a general blank prompt like
23:54this and they think oh that's perfect
23:56I'm just going to use exactly what it
23:58said but then what you don't know on the
24:00other end is that there's recruiters and
24:01hiring managers and other people that
24:03know AI really well as well and they're
24:06like oh that's so unfortunate I can
24:08totally tell that they used AI to write
24:10this for them so please reference
24:12everything that I'm sharing with you
24:14with what you're getting and then pull
24:16it together with your own personal
24:19language your own personal character
24:21your own personality right pull that all
24:23together to create your amazing LinkedIn
24:26summary this is just a starting Point by
24:28the way what's one change that you need
24:31to make to your LinkedIn about summary
24:33So based on everything that I just
24:35shared with you what is one change that
24:38you need to make to your LinkedIn about
24:40summary so we talked a little bit about
24:42your profile photo we talked a little
24:44bit about your headline we talked about
24:47your about summary notice I'm going from
24:50the top of your profile and moving down
24:52what I'm sharing with you are only the
24:54sections that I want you to be focused
24:56on now now when it look at your detailed
24:59work experience I want you to remember
25:01that this is going to be much more
25:03personable and relatable than your
25:05resume now you can take your resume and
25:07you can pop it into your LinkedIn
25:09profile but I want you to take it one
25:12step further I want you to make it more
25:13personable and relatable it's going to
25:16be a brief paragraph of your overall all
25:18responsibilities now keep in mind you're
25:20going to uh describe your key
25:22achievements you're going to um
25:25highlight your contributions or
25:26contributions where you actually made an
25:29impact you're going to provide specific
25:31examples if you can quantify those
25:34examples and accomplishments wherever
25:37possible and then of course you can
25:39showcase your areas of expertise and the
25:41skills that you've received right that
25:43have helped you excel in your position
25:45results driven achievement statements I
25:46can say this all day long forever and
25:49ever and ever no matter what I'm talking
25:50about with any job Seeker you're not
25:52only going to be using these in your
25:54profile you're going to be using them in
25:55your resume and more importantly you're
25:57going to using them in your interviews
26:01right um the other thing with your uh
26:03experience section give metrics and data
26:05to demonstrate your impact rate uh
26:08number of products sold percentages
26:11increased productivity increased uh num
26:15Revenue saved or Revenue increased
26:17whatever that is growth cost savings
26:20team Size customer satisfaction really
26:23think about those examples that you can
26:25put into your LinkedIn uh experience
26:28section make sure you're always
26:30including your relevant keywords and
26:32highlighting those expertise and also
26:34make sure you are indicating some sort
26:36of career progression right that's one
26:39of the most important things to a
26:40recruiter a hiring manager a CEO a
26:43potential client is they want to know
26:45hey you've you've started here and maybe
26:47that was 10 15 years ago and now you're
26:50here and show me that clear path show me
26:53that you are able to make smart
26:54decisions in your career because if
26:56you're able to make smart decisions in
26:57your career I know that you're able to
26:59make smart decisions if I hire you
27:01here's an example really quickly of what
27:04this looks like now keep in mind I'm
27:07using a combination of a paragraph and
27:10it could be one paragraph or excuse me
27:12one sentence or two sentences and I'm
27:14also using bullet points and that's okay
27:17you can do that you don't have to copy
27:19and paste directly from your resume in
27:20fact I prefer that you don't because
27:23then it just becomes a little bit more
27:25stuffy and formal where link in we
27:28really want to show your expertise make
27:31sure you have your catchy job title you
27:33most of the time most of you are going
27:35to have just your job title with where
27:37you're at or your most recent position
27:40just make sure that's not your LinkedIn
27:42headline make sure your LinkedIn
27:43headline is interesting it's catchy it's
27:46engaging and again go back to where we
27:49talked about LinkedIn headlines if you
27:51have questions on how to do that now are
27:53you guys ready for um my experience
27:56template this is a template for your
27:59experience section okay this is a
28:00template so I've been giving you a bunch
28:02of uh AI prompts I'm now going to share
28:05with you a template to help you write
28:06that experience section so make sure you
28:08screenshot that in paragraph one you're
28:11basically explaining your key
28:13responsibilities and your achievements
28:15and you're highlighting your
28:16contributions and impact right you're
28:19basically going to be showcasing your
28:21areas of expertise your skills how
28:24you've utilized them to excel you're
28:27going to highlight any notable projects
28:29your initiatives or collaborations that
28:31you were involved in that's going to be
28:33paragraph one keep in mind and this is
28:35where I want you guys to start thinking
28:37about AI I may have all the prompts for
28:39you for this but I want you to think
28:41about how can I now take this
28:43experienced template and ask my AI
28:45assistant how to help me write my
28:47experience section after your paragraph
28:50one and by the way I don't want this to
28:52be big huge long I want it to just be
28:54short and sweet then you're going to add
28:56three to four bullet points again the
28:58these are your results driven
28:59achievement statements you're going to
29:02highlight again your or showcase your
29:04expertise your impact and your
29:05contributions quantify whatever you can
29:10so I want to know really quickly inside
29:12of your experience section have you ever
29:15used media elements right so I showed
29:18you paragraph one I showed you how to do
29:20your career highlights have you ever
29:22added anything else into that section
29:25like images videos PDFs PowerPoints
29:28anything like that now again we're not
29:31I'm not going to show you how to do that
29:32today because that we would we would be
29:34here for quite a while but anyone that
29:36does use uh that does use LinkedIn on a
29:39regular basis or has their profile
29:42optimized have you ever used this inside
29:44your experience section now let's move
29:47on to the education section this one's
29:49pretty easy I don't have a whole lot to
29:50say about this besides get it in there
29:54if you don't have any sort of Education
29:56by the way this is an example of what my
29:58mine looks like I have my uh graduate
30:00program in there I have my undergraduate
30:02program in there I have the name of the
30:04school I have the actual School part
30:07right so uh where I went to school this
30:09it was in the School of Business my
30:11degree notice how I've listed my degree
30:13I don't want you to say Master's in blah
30:16blah I want you to say master of science
30:18or you don't just say MBA spell that out
30:21or master of arts don't just say ma
30:23spell that out give the initials and
30:26then give the the type the name of your
30:28program and then your emphasis if you
30:30have one right keep that in mind I the
30:33more detailed that you can be in that
30:35section without sharing too much the
30:37better and then if you don't have any
30:40sort of formal education that's okay
30:42list your certifications you can list
30:44training if you want to if you don't
30:47have certifications in an area that
30:48you're going into and there is a
30:50certification that you can get I would
30:52highly get started on that certification
30:54you can add it to your profile and say
30:56that your expected fin date is such and
30:59such right so anytime that we can add
31:01education training certifications that's
31:04like a whole another cherry on top for
31:06employers to say yeah this person is
31:08staying current in their field and they
31:10are um they are versatile so so keep
31:13that in there or add that to your
31:15profile now let's talk about impactful
31:17skills so this section I'm going to talk
31:20about for just a minute here because
31:22this one is becoming more and more
31:24important on LinkedIn especially with
31:27LinkedIn going with that skills-based
31:29recruitment approach so back in the day
31:32and I I don't even know when's back in
31:33the day 2 years 10 years I don't even
31:35know you couldn't add specific skills to
31:38each section on your profile all you did
31:40was have the the skills section but now
31:43LinkedIn is allowing you to add skills
31:45to different sections on your profile
31:46I'm going to share with you some
31:48screenshots to help you know where you
31:50can add those and when to add those
31:53before I share those screenshots let me
31:54share this first one this is if I go to
31:56my LinkedIn profile LinkedIn used to
31:59display three skills on my homepage and
32:01on your homepage and everyone's homepage
32:03now they're just displaying the top two
32:05so you have to be really really really
32:07thoughtful with what your top two skills
32:09are if they are not listed on your
32:11profile right now you need to reorder
32:13them so that those top two are on your
32:16profile those top two skills are the
32:19ones that I want you to be adding and
32:21getting endorsements for today which by
32:23the way that's one of your challenges or
32:25your homework assignments and I'll share
32:27that in just a second when you go to
32:29your skills section you have that plus
32:31icon and you have the edit icon plus is
32:34going to allow you to add edit's going
32:36to allow you to edit whatever you have
32:38in there right now go experiment and
32:40play around with this you can add up to
32:42100 skills I don't want you to add up to
32:45100 skills at least not yet I could tell
32:47you if I do this Workshop again in two
32:50months that I want you to add all 100 I
32:53like to keep this skills list manageable
32:56I have 30 SK skills on mine you could
32:58add 45 you could add 50 the reason why
33:02is because I want you to focus on
33:03getting endorsements for the top skills
33:07and it could be let's say you have 10 or
33:0820 that you're working on getting
33:10endorsements for rather than trying to
33:12get endorsements for a 100 skills
33:14because it Waters down your profile
33:16people get confused they want to just be
33:18able to click click click endorse you
33:19for this they're not going to go and
33:20endorse you for all 100 skills now
33:23unless you've been on LinkedIn a long
33:24time and you have a 100,000 connections
33:26or a million connections and people that
33:28will do that great but for the most part
33:31what you need to do is focus on those
33:33top skills I don't have an exact number
33:36for how many you should add I have 30 on
33:39mine you could experiment with 35 you
33:42could experiment with 25 but pay
33:44attention to the top two now if I go
33:47deeper into that skill section and I'm
33:49going to add a skill which is that plus
33:51icon notice what happens is I can start
33:53typing into the the search bar a skill
33:55that I want to add or I can go suggest
33:58um based on what LinkedIn is giving me
34:00and they're going to give me a couple
34:01skills what I want you to keep in mind
34:04when you are adding skills so let's say
34:06I type leadership in I want you to get
34:08very specific as possible I don't want
34:11you just to type leadership so let's say
34:13I wanted to type leadership we'll notice
34:14all the options it's giving me team team
34:17leadership cross functional team
34:19leadership leadership development
34:20exceptional leadership organiz
34:22organizational development or excuse me
34:24leadership what you want to do is try
34:26your very hardest is to stick with a
34:28skill that it is suggesting you in that
34:31list if I start typing or even am I
34:33suggested based in my profile because
34:36these are skills that recruiters hiring
34:38managers um CEOs are looking for if you
34:42just add some random skill that LinkedIn
34:44is like you're not getting a result that
34:47it's showing you that means no one's
34:49searching for that skill so be specific
34:52with that skill don't be um too broad
34:55get very specific and make sure you're
34:57using some of the suggestions that it's
34:59giving you because that's what people
35:00are searching for now if I were going to
35:02we're going to go in and um oh this is
35:05the other thing I wanted to show you
35:06this is if I were to go edit you can
35:09sort um sort your skills by industry
35:11knowledge tools of um and technology or
35:15interpersonal skills make sure you have
35:18a each section kind of covered right so
35:22you don't want just industry knowledge
35:23skills you want to make sure you also
35:25have your interpersonal skills in there
35:27so make sure you have some skills in
35:30each of these sections when you go to
35:33add a skill to LinkedIn oh I got to go
35:34back to this other screenshot sorry I
35:36forgot to share this at the bottom of
35:38this notice it says tell us where you
35:40put this skill to use okay so here's the
35:44thing and I don't have a screenshot of
35:45what this looks like down below but this
35:48is now where you can start adding the
35:50skills to your experience in a in a
35:53certain position you can add skills to
35:54your summary and you can add skills to
35:57your about in your experience section
35:58which before it didn't allow you to do
36:00that so keep that in mind it's going to
36:02ask you where do you want us to put this
36:04skill or where did you put this skill to
36:06use now in your work experience you'll
36:09now have a list of skills keep this in
36:11mind I don't know if I have a separate
36:12slide on this because I can't remember
36:14if I do I think I do let me let me go in
36:16and I I do let me let me keep going okay
36:19on the skills section you can reorder
36:21these skills again based on the skills
36:24of most important to you to your
36:26position you're apply for to your
36:28candidacy as a job Seeker a client
36:31whatever that is make sure those top two
36:33are at the very top of that list now
36:36next thing I want you to do is when you
36:39are looking at where you're adding those
36:41skills again you can add them to your
36:43summary and notice in here this is if I
36:46were to go edit my summary I can now add
36:49a skill LinkedIn didn't used to have
36:51this as an option that's why I always
36:53had that expertise section in there I
36:55still want you to keep the expertise
36:56section there and then add a skill
36:58here's what I also want you to do don't
37:00add any more than five skills keep it to
37:03five skills that you are adding so let's
37:06say for example it's going to say
37:08suggested based on my profile it wants
37:10me to add problem solving Career
37:12Development leadership development
37:13communication leadership things like
37:15that I could add that but rather I'd
37:18probably go in and add things like
37:19LinkedIn training um job search strategy
37:23interview skills I would add certain
37:25things in there so that if someone's
37:27searching for what I do I'm going to pop
37:29up at the top of their search results or
37:31higher to the top right now the other
37:34place that you can add your skill is to
37:36your work experience section so this is
37:38if I were to edit my work experience
37:40section I can now add that skill now if
37:43I didn't already tell LinkedIn in the
37:45previous when I was working on my skill
37:47section to add it to a certain work
37:49experience I can go back in and add it
37:52manually just by editing my work
37:54experience keep in mind when you do this
37:56I want you to go back save your changes
37:59and look at what your profile looks like
38:01after those skills have been added
38:03LinkedIn will show those top five skills
38:05right on the first window which is I
38:07want you to keep each if you're adding
38:09them to each work experience add just
38:11five to each work experience and add
38:12five to your summary and if all El fails
38:15just go to your LinkedIn section and go
38:17to your skills and start editing your
38:19skills from there endorsements they are
38:21a form of recommendations but what
38:23endorsements are is now you have your
38:26skills list list op optimized now you're
38:28asking other people to endorse you for
38:31your skills right so when you go to
38:33linkedin's page it will say 99 plus
38:36people have endorsed you for this that's
38:38where I want you to get if you are not
38:40already there so let's say that you are
38:41a business analyst I want to see 99 plus
38:45people have endorsed you for you being a
38:47business analyst or let's say leadership
38:49communication is one of your skills 99
38:51plus people have endorsed you for that
38:53so the more the endorsements the better
38:55this is where you're going to be
38:56collecting Endor Ms from your colleagues
38:59connections people people in your in
39:01your network and they're going to
39:03basically validate that yes you say you
39:05have that skill I'm going to endorse you
39:06for that let me show you what that looks
39:08like again same same window that I
39:10showed before 99 plus endorsements for
39:13LinkedIn training 86 endorsements for
39:15resumé writing right I better go reach
39:17out to my network and say endorse me for
39:19resumé writing right so whatever
39:22whatever skills are at the top of your
39:24profile on your homepage the top two
39:27that's what I want you to be getting
39:29endorsements for now you're probably
39:30wondering Heather how do I even get
39:32those endorsements well by the way I
39:35have a really awesome endorsement
39:36template so take a screenshot of this
39:39that will help you get those
39:40endorsements so this is where you are
39:42going to start reaching out to your
39:44connections on LinkedIn and you're going
39:46to start asking them for an endorsement
39:48right so I'm saying hey so and so hope
39:50you're doing well I'm looking to build
39:52my profile and was wondering if you
39:54would consider endorse me for skills x y
39:56and z now you give them three to four
39:58skills whatever two skills if you want
40:00to do at least those top skills now you
40:03could even just leave it at that but if
40:05you want to get even more detailed with
40:07hey do you remember when we worked
40:09together at company blah blah blah I
40:12helped da d d da da and most people you
40:14don't need to give them this much
40:15information but this is here in case you
40:17want to adjust this take out what you
40:19want you could say it would mean a lot
40:21to me I would be more than happy to
40:23return the favor thanks again and hope
40:25all is well right take a screenshot of
40:27this because this is what you're going
40:28to use to have people endorse you on
40:31LinkedIn so that your skills list
40:34continually builds because skills based
40:36recruiting is getting even more
40:38important plus those search algorithms
40:41are getting are getting getting really
40:43focused on those skills you want to have
40:45those in there sorted properly arranged
40:48properly and you want to have those
40:49endorsements so what are the top two
40:51skills on your LinkedIn profile and
40:54let's say you haven't even optimized it
40:56yet what are the top skills you are
40:58going to add to your LinkedIn profile
41:00the last part to our eight sections that
41:03you need to have optimized is your
41:05influential recommendations now
41:08recommendations are some of the top top
41:11top things that you can have on your
41:13profile to validate and verify who you
41:15are what you've done how you've helped
41:18companies and really just to to tell
41:20others that hey I I am who I say I am
41:24right here's one an example of what that
41:26looks like on a profile
41:27so you're going to have your um
41:29recommendations that if I go to your
41:31homepage I'm going to see all the stuff
41:32we've talked about skills so on and so
41:35forth and then I'm going to go down and
41:36I'm going to see your recommendations
41:38the best people to ask recommendations
41:40from if you don't have any or if you are
41:42building your recommendation list which
41:44I have another template in a second to
41:45share with you and I think this is the
41:47last template is ask previous colleagues
41:50clients supervisors you can ask
41:53professors you can even ask people that
41:55maybe you worked on a project for for
41:57that work for another company anyone
41:59that you've done any work with in any
42:01way um even if it was volunteer work if
42:03it was contract work freelance work it
42:05does not matter if they're on LinkedIn
42:07and they have a profile they can write
42:09you a recommendation now I will tell you
42:11this of course the higher up the person
42:14is um if they have CEO status if they
42:17have business owner status whatever it
42:20is superviser manager stat management
42:22status those are going to weigh heavier
42:25than let's say a cross functional team
42:27member right that's okay still get those
42:29get all of those but take a look at who
42:32you're asking for recommendations for
42:34have them highlight your skills and your
42:36expertise right and I'm going to give
42:38you a template that you can use in a
42:39second to to ask these folks for this um
42:42if they can give you um or write a
42:45recommendation that gives like examples
42:47of your work and your accomplishments
42:49that's even better uh anyway get get
42:52those get those squared away on your
42:53profile here is a template for you take
42:55a screenshot of this because you're
42:58going to want to use this to actually
43:00get your recommendations so I gave you a
43:02template to use for endorsements here's
43:04a template to use for recommendations so
43:06this is if you're reaching out to
43:08someone to ask them to write you a
43:10recommendation keep in mind it's really
43:12rare for people just to all of a sudden
43:14think of you and say hey I'm going to go
43:16write a recommendation for Victoria or
43:18I'm going to go write a recommendation
43:20for Mark or I'm going to write a
43:21recommendation for Michelle normally
43:23that doesn't happen so you want to get
43:26out there and put your yourself out
43:27there and ask them to write one for you
43:29so I'm currently optimizing my LinkedIn
43:31profile and expanding my career
43:33opportunities I've heard that LinkedIn
43:35recommendations are a great way to do
43:37this would you mind writing a
43:38recommendation for me and you could give
43:40them here's our time together and can
43:42you focus on these skills give them
43:44skill two one two and three I would be
43:47happy to write a recommendation for you
43:48as well I appreciate your time here's
43:50the thing you want to make this as easy
43:52and simple as possible for them so of
43:56course in the academy not only do I have
43:57your recommendation template but we also
44:00have a template that you write for them
44:03like you say hey by the way I've written
44:07I've already drafted this up for you to
44:10make it easier can you take a look at it
44:12and let me know is this something that
44:14you would be comfortable posting if so
44:16feel free to use this and make any
44:18changes that you want and post it to my
44:21profile and I'll do the same thing for
44:22you right so you want to make it easy as
44:24possible when I was a university
44:26professor I had so many students come in
44:28graduate and undergraduate that said hey
44:30professor Austin I'm applying for this
44:32position can you write a recommendation
44:34for me I'm like yes I can but then I got
44:36to the point where I'm like oh my
44:38goodness like can you tell me what you
44:39want me to say can you give me the
44:41skills you want me to focus on can you
44:43can you tell me what position you're
44:45applying for who is this going to give
44:47and then I got to the point where I'm
44:48like you know what why don't you draft
44:50that recommendation for me and then give
44:53it to me and I'll read it and I'll
44:55change it how I see fit right and then I
44:57was like oh okay now I'm getting to all
45:00the recommendation requests that I have
45:01rather than just one out of 10 because
45:04when you're getting one out of 10 people
45:05in a day or whatever in a month you're
45:07like oh I got to go think really hard
45:10right about what to say so I know for me
45:13that made it a lot easier when when I
45:14finally started asking my students how
45:16about you just draft it for me and then
45:18I was like this is easy so that's the
45:20approach that I want you guys to take
45:22quick question for you what part of your
45:24LinkedIn profile needs the most work let
