Introduction

0:00Spark Hire interview questions tend to follow a

0:02pattern.

0:03Do you know what that pattern is?

0:04And better yet, do you know how to answer

0:06those questions?

0:07My name is Patrick, and I'm here to walk you

0:09through seven common Spark Hire video

0:12interview questions you might be thinking, how

0:14can this guy I talk about seven common

0:16questions if he doesn't even know what company

0:18I'm applying to?

0:19That's because Spark Hire video interview

0:22questions tend to fall into one of three

0:24categories.

0:25The three question types are introductory

0:27questions, behavioral questions, and

0:30motivational questions.

0:31And this is true for almost every company, for all

0:34roles and all levels of seniority.

0:36By the way, stick around till the end of this video

0:38for a bonus tip that no video on YouTube can

0:41help you with.

0:41Not even this one.

0:42All right, let's get to it with these seven common

0:44interview questions.

0:45If there is a question that you would like me to

0:47answer, which I did not answer in this video,

0:49please let me know in the comments.

0:51I usually get back to them in about one day.

Q1 - Tell me about yourself

0:53Question one, tell me about yourself.

0:55This is a classic introductory question, and if you

0:58had to prepare for only one question, make sure

1:01it's this one.

1:01A great answer is one that clearly and concisely

1:05says who you are, what your experiences, and

1:09what do you want to do?

1:10So that checks off your present, your past, and

1:14your expectations for the future?

1:15A very common mistake when answering this

1:17question is to simply read off your resume.

1:20Do not do that under any circumstances.

1:23The hiring manager already has all the

1:25information and this is video, so make sure to

1:27use the format to your advantage.

1:29Bring you as a person to life, try to make things

1:32interesting, dynamic and energetic.

1:34So if I had to answer that question, an example

1:37answer could be after a successful career as a

1:39hiring manager, I decided that the next step of

1:41my career is to help as many people get the job

1:44they want.

1:45So working on a YouTube channel that does

1:47exactly that is something that really appeals to

1:49me.

1:49You see short and sweet.

1:52If the hiring manager only watches this one

1:54video, it has to be enough for them to

1:57understand who you are and what you're about.

1:59Just obviously remember that you can go into a

2:01little bit more detail.

2:02I have to keep these examples short.

2:04Since this is a YouTube video, don't keep droning

2:06on and on and using up the available record time

2:09just because you can stop your answer once

2:12you've gotten your point across and move on to

2:14the next question.

Q2 - What was the toughest challenge you've faced?

2:15Question two.

2:16What is the toughest challenge you faced?

2:19Awesome.

2:19This is our first behavioral questions.

2:21Before I answer this one, let me tell you how

2:23behavioral questions work.

2:25Behavioral questions follow a very predictable

2:28pattern.

2:28They will ask about your past and ask about what

2:32actions you took.

2:33They require you to use concrete examples and

2:36the best way to answer this is using the Star

2:39method.

2:39Up here is a video I made on the STAR method

2:41and I highly recommend you watch it after

2:43finishing this video.

2:44Ok, back to the question.

2:45What this question is really asking you about is

2:48how you prioritize things.

2:50Tough challenges are usually complex with

2:53multiple moving parts.

2:55So talk about how you got a big problem, broke it

2:59down into pieces and dealt with one issue at a

3:02time.

3:02Let's hear an example answer.

3:03My manager asked me to improve our video

3:06outreach numbers, but I had zero video

3:08experience, so I spent a week researching video

3:11production and talking to experts in the field.

3:13After launching just a few videos, the numbers

3:16started turning around and growth returned to

3:18the channel.

3:19See, I had a big problem and I broke it down and

3:22decided how and where to start prioritization.

3:25That's how to answer this question.

3:26Also, did you notice how my answer was broken

3:29down into the four components of the STAR

3:30method?

3:31Make sure you use the STAR method to guide

3:34your answers.

3:34And if you feel like you're getting value from this

3:59Question Three tell me about a time you had to

Q3 - Tell me about a time you had to deliver disappointing news

4:02deliver disappointing news.

4:04This is another behavioral question.

4:06The person watching your interview or Bai isn't

4:09really interested in the bad news.

4:11They want to understand your ability to adapt

4:14and be Proactive.

4:15So think about it.

4:16If you're delivering bad news, you should already

4:18have the next steps in mind of how we fix that.

4:21So let's see an example answer.

4:22The first video I released was a complete disaster

4:25and my boss was not happy, but I showed her

4:27how we had improved and learned in that

4:29production process and how you would do

4:31things differently and the next video that came

4:33out had much better results.

4:35So I delivered the bad news, but I go above and

4:37beyond and talk about how we're going to turn

4:39things around.

4:39Question Four tell me about a time you faced

Q4 - Tell me about a time you faced conflict in a team

4:42conflict in a team.

4:44This is another classic behavioral question, and if

4:46your work involves teamwork, make sure you

4:49prep for this one.

4:50Once again, let's look beyond the question.

4:53What they're really asking about here is your

4:54people skills, how you empathize, how you de

4:57escalate, and how you enable people to work

5:00together.

5:00Let's listen to a quick example answer.

5:02I had a new co worker that was getting a hard

5:04time from our manager because they were

5:06falling behind on work.

5:07I picked up the slack, but I also proposed an

5:09expanded onboarding program so that new hires

5:12could get up to speed much faster.

5:15My new coworker then was able to understand

5:17the job in a much better way and deliver results

5:20in a shorter period of time.

Q5 - Tell me about a time you had to explain something complex

5:21Question Five Tell me about a time you had to

5:24explain something complex.

5:26This question might sound similar to the first

5:28behavioral question we talk about, but actually

5:31it's quite different in this question.

5:33They want to hear about your communication

5:35skills.

5:35Communication is key for any job, so make sure

5:39you have some examples shortlisted.

5:41Let's hear an example answer.

5:42I had to train somewhere at work how to edit

5:44videos, but they had zero video editing

5:47experience.

5:47So I created a video editing checklist and I walked

5:50through that person through every single step.

5:52We worked together on the questions they had,

5:54and now they edit videos faster than I do.

Q6 - Why do you want this job?

5:57Question Six Why do you want this job?

6:00Remember those three categories of questions I

6:02talked about introductory, behavioral and

6:05motivational?

6:05So this is a motivational type question and make

6:08sure that you prep for this one because it is also

6:10extremely common.

6:11Try and think about what parts of the job appeal

6:14to you.

6:14If you're applying for a sales job, talk about how

6:17you like to be in the outdoors, moving around,

6:19meeting new people.

6:20If you're applying for a job that requires you to

6:22work mostly alone, stay in a lab and you enjoy

6:25that.

6:25Make sure you mention it.

6:26But the best answers here are the ones that

6:29match what you want for yourself with what the

6:32company has.

6:33If you talk about how your personal values and

6:36growth objectives align with the company's

6:39values, that is an amazing answer that recruiters

6:42and hiring managers love to hear.

6:44And for your own sake, the best thing here is to

6:47be authentic.

6:48Nobody should work at a job that makes them

6:50miserable.

6:50Now let's hear an example answer.

6:52I want this job because I love working with

6:54outreach and the fact that this YouTube channel

6:56is a jobs focused one makes me even happier

6:58since that's where I've spent most of my career,

7:00and I have a lot of experience in this field.

Q7 - Tell us something that is not on your Resume

7:02Question Seven Tell us something that is not on

7:06your resume.

7:07This last question is a curveball, but you should

7:09be really grateful if it pops up on your interview.

7:11This question allows you to bring up any

7:14achievements or accomplishments that make

7:16you stand out from the crowd and didn't quite fit

7:18into any of the previous questions.

7:20I'm not going to answer this question today.

7:22I want you to answer that question in the

7:24comments.

7:25I'll check them out and add my feedback to them

7:27later on.
