0:01Hey wake up, AI is rotting your brain!
0:05That's not an empty hook, but a real thing called cognitive atrophy – the
0:09loss of core skills like problem solving, critical thinking and even creativity.
0:15This is not only bad for you, but catastrophic for progress and innovation for our whole society.
0:21When we offload all mental work to these tools and stop questioning what they spit out,
0:26we stop being curious about the world around us.
0:29Human ingenuity gets lost,
0:31creativity will decrease and we may lose what makes us human in our core.
0:37Today, the number of AI "written" articles online is approaching the number written by humans.
0:43Last year, hundreds of AI slop channels had over 40 billion views.
0:48That is 10 times 13 years of kurzgesagt!
0:52And it is likely even worse today: We can’t even measure this anymore,
0:56since detecting AI content with certainty has become impossible.
1:01It’s harder and harder to compete with the massive wave of AI Slop uploaded
1:05every day and human creators across all platforms are struggling tremendously.
1:11But that will not stop us!
1:13Our mission at kurzgesagt is to spark curiosity and encourage a science-based,
1:18humanist and optimistic worldview.
1:22That’s the reason we don’t stop talking about topics important to us, investing the time and
1:27effort to research, illustrate and animate them to upload science videos for free and for everyone.
1:33We live for that, but it's not easy to stay afloat:
1:37Sponsors and ads alone do not fund us; animated videos are very expensive.
1:43That's why we could never do all of this without you.
1:47For the last ten years the kurzgesagt shop became the most important source of income:
1:52You can join our cause, and get something valuable, sciency and pretty in return.
1:58The Human Era Calendar sales take the biggest part.
2:01It pays a huge chunk of our team's salary, allows us to plan for next year,
2:06and provides training opportunities to improve with every video we make.
2:10In a nutshell: every year, this Calendar *saves our ass*.
2:15But it’s also a passion project that celebrates all of humanity: We reframe time itself by
2:21starting 12,000 years ago instead of 2,000 – at the dawn of civilization.
2:26The calendar on your wall pays actual humans, who debate topics, research,
2:32find compositions, recolor and pour endless love into every little detail.
2:37Full of passion and dedication AI can't imitate.
2:42This time, our Calendar explores the dark tales and legends that
2:45helped us make sense of the world before science.
2:48These are stories about human curiosity, and humans who kept asking questions.
2:53Each month takes you on a journey through forgotten worlds and human imagination.
2:58Dive into 12 magical artworks, like the taming of volcanoes,
3:03learn about mythical creatures that stem from early fossil finds and many more legends.
3:08AI could literally never.
3:11From the entire team at kurzgesagt:
3:13Thank you for your support and for choosing human art and passion.
