0:07hi my name is thomas callahan and i'm a
0:09computer science major at the university
0:11of massachusetts amherst last summer i
0:13interned with staples where i worked on
0:15the enterprise tools team that helped
0:16support all the companies tools like
0:18splunk new relic and full story for a
0:20few
0:21i created custom applications to assist
0:23in the monitoring of new relic license
0:25utilization with python and rest apis
0:28that integrates directly with the new
0:30relic sas
0:31these custom applications i built
0:32allowed staples to minimalize license
0:34utilization
0:36and that saved them hundreds of
0:38thousands of dollars along with
0:39providing the dozens of teams that use
0:41the service much better forecasted
0:43growth for their budgets
0:45this combined with my years of
0:47experience collaborating on diverse
0:49teams and automation databasing and
0:51performance monitoring allowed me to
0:53gain a range of both technical and
0:55communication skills that i can use in
0:58this company i am looking for an
1:00internship that will help to grow my
1:01technical and professional skills the
1:03next level and was wondering what you
1:04could offer
1:06good morning my name is sheera and i'm
1:09pursuing a masters in computer science
1:11from umass amherst i'm also pursuing the
1:13data sense concentration along with this
1:15course
1:16my interests lie in software engineering
1:18and machine learning and its
1:19intersection especially its application
1:21to real world problems
1:23in my previous experiences both
1:25professional and research i have worked
1:27on various such projects
1:29one very interesting project i worked on
1:31was automating insight extraction from
1:33consumer product reviews
1:35in which i used extensive data mining
1:37and natural language processing
1:38techniques to automate a currently
1:41manual process
1:42by also achieving an 85 percent accuracy
1:45with with the entire automation
1:49this was one of the projects that was
1:51very challenging and i got to learn a
1:53lot about machine learning and its
1:55application especially to the
1:57language and text processing domain
2:00for the summer i'm looking at an
2:02internship in which i could uh further
2:04learn about this domain and apply to
2:06more real-world problems um interning at
2:09mathworks would be a very enriching
2:10experience for me because products like
2:12math lab and simulink are something that
2:15are used worldwide and
2:17have a unique machine learning and
2:20data visualization component to them
2:22which i think i could uh really learn a
2:25lot about
2:26so i'm really looking forward to an
2:27opportunity to learning more about this
2:29role and uh
2:31i look forward to hearing from you
2:34hi i'm luis morita i'm a senior
2:37informatics student here at umass this
2:40gives me great skills in data analytics
2:42and data visualization
2:44however my skills aren't just limited to
2:46these two things i'm capable in web
2:48application development and last
2:50semester was fortunate enough to undergo
2:52an independent study in machine learning
2:55i'm looking for a role as a software
2:57engineer where i can apply both my
2:58knowledge of data science and neural
3:00networks to create great things
3:06hi my name is disha and i am a third
3:08year economics and data science student
3:10here at umass amherst this past summer i
3:13was a software engineering intern at
3:15liberty mutual working on an agile
3:17back-end engineering team where i
3:18learned the ins and outs of software
3:20development and learning tools like
3:22microsoft azure splunk and learning new
3:24programming languages such as react
3:27i also got to work on a really exciting
3:29covert 19 project
3:31trying to quantify how the pandemic has
3:34impacted
3:35liberty's insurance business by
3:37comparing yearly demand data
3:39outside of school i'm really passionate
3:41about hackathons and i was recently the
3:44director of our all women's hackathon
3:46right here on campus called hacker413
3:48and i'm really excited to be speaking to
3:50you today because travelers was actually
3:51one of the sponsors of our hackathon
3:53and it was a really exciting initiative
3:55being able to run a 300 person event and
3:58providing a safe space for women and
3:59non-binary folks to learn about
4:01computing
4:02and looking forward i'm really
4:04interested in product management
4:06opportunities and i would love to learn
4:07more about your technology leadership
4:09development program
4:16you
