0:04What are you doing? I don't know what
0:06I'm doing.
0:18>> [sighs]
0:19>> When I was 12 years old, I heard about a
0:21movie called Two Girls, One Cup. And I
0:23was so excited to go watch it with my
0:25friends that I couldn't go to [music]
0:26sleep the night before and ended up
0:27sleeping through my alarm and missing
0:29out on it. However, my friend said that
0:31it was mid and wasn't really worth
0:32watching. And so, I still haven't seen
0:34it ever since. Anyways, recently one of
0:36my editors sent me a video called Three
0:37[music] Dudes, One Hammer, and it kind
0:39of sounded similar to Two Girls, One
0:41Cup. And so, today I want to finally
0:42check it out to see what it's all about.
0:44The serial killers behind three guys one
0:46hammer by Diet Trip. [music]
0:55What started with a group of young men
0:57trying to conquer their fears ended up
0:59with them trying to conquer the fear of
1:00ending human lives. Huh?
1:02>> As they came to end about 20 lives in
1:04the span of 2 months.
1:05>> Wait, what do you mean they have a fear
1:07of ending human lives? Doesn't every
1:09shouldn't every normal person not want
1:10to take another human's life? Why is
1:12this considered such an amazing
1:13discovery? Oh my god, this guy has a
1:15fear of taking somebody's life. Wow, so
1:18amazing. They created what would be one
1:20of the most infamous shock videos in
1:22internet history.
1:24>> Three dudes, one hammer. I don't get it.
1:26I have never seen the original. [music]
1:34>> Back in the 2000s, shock and gore sites
1:36were everywhere. These days, many of
1:38them have since gone dark, being that
1:40it's a lot harder to maintain them with
1:41all the public backlash and the fact
1:43that advertisers don't want to finance
1:45them.
1:46>> True. I mean, imagine some random like
1:48video of some guy getting decapitated on
1:50the internet and then right before you
1:51watch it, you have to watch a 30-second
1:52unskippable ad of Coco Melon like the
1:55new the new Disney movie that's coming
1:56out. What is the latest Disney movie
1:58that's coming out? Like like Finding
1:59Nemo 3. Imagine if there's like a
2:0030second unskippable ad for Finding Nemo
2:033 before a Mexican cartel beheading.
2:05Then it was easy for the videos to
2:07circulate pretty far and wide. This is
2:09the story of three mischievous young
2:11boys who grew up to create one of the
2:13most infamous of all of the videos.
2:15Something I'm sure a lot of you know as
2:17three guys one hammer. I've never seen
2:19this before. I maybe I mean maybe not on
2:21a gore website, but maybe on like a
2:23different website. There's like a
2:24there's probably an equivalent on like
2:25some orange website called like three
2:27dudes one hammer or something. I don't
2:28know. probably
2:29>> Igor Sopranuk, Victor Syenko, and
2:32Alexander Hanza were all born in 1988
2:34and lived in the area of Deni Propatrok,
2:37a province in southeastern Ukraine.
2:39>> Ukraine.
2:39>> All three of them lived in the same
2:41neighborhood and were friends ever since
2:42they were kids.
2:44>> Victor and Alexander even attended the
2:46same school, Denny Propatro School
2:48number 96, and were in the same class
2:50together. Eventually, Igor came to join
2:52them there as well after his parents
2:54transferred him into the school. While
2:56Victor and Alexander didn't stand out
2:57too much in their childhood, the same
2:59couldn't be said of Igor. One of his
3:01teachers later said, "The boy had a
3:03difficult personality, I had the feeling
3:05he was constantly defending himself,
3:07even though no one bullied him. He was
3:09very insecure, but he tried not to show
3:11it. And also, I remember immediately
3:13noticing his eyes. They were blue and
3:15cold like ice. It even sh my spine."
3:19Damn. So, the teacher's already saying
3:20this about the student even back then.
3:21Wait, so that means you should always
3:23judge a book by its cover. If anybody
3:25has blue eyes that are cold, you should
3:27immediately send them to jail. Maximum a
3:29super max prison life sentence so that
3:30they can't commit any crimes. This is
3:32how we end all crimes in society. Type
3:34one in chat if you have blue eyes and
3:35they're cold. I personally have blue
3:36eyes that are so warm that they turned
3:38brown. And so then now now I just have
3:40brown eyes. Igor made things even worse
3:42by not putting much of an effort into
3:43his school work. He would often skip
3:45class entirely and back talk his
3:47teachers as well.
3:48>> Still, many students at the school
3:50claimed that he was oddly charismatic.
3:52While he had a hard time making a large
3:54group of friends, the friends he did
3:55have seemed completely enthralled with
3:57him. This led to an attitude of
3:59arrogance that further turned the other
4:00students away from only made his inner
4:02circle think even more highly of him.
4:04>> Victor and Alexander were a few of these
4:06friends.
4:07>> Wo, this guy. Oh my god, look at this
4:09guy. This guy Mogs. Holy, this guy Mus.
4:11Now this guy has definitely maintained
4:13his mewing streak. Thank you Pikachu for
4:14the super chat. 11s react to one man,
4:16one jar, and two girls, one cup, please.
4:20Okay, I've never heard of them, but I
4:21guess we'll have a look at them after
4:23this one. Three guys, one hammer.
4:25>> Victor and Alexander were a few of these
4:27friends, and it has been said that their
4:28behavior grew worse the longer they were
4:30around him. Victor's mother once told a
4:33story about how in the fifth grade, all
4:35three of the boys went to the nearest
4:36train station and threw rocks at the
4:38train windows. Their parents heard about
4:40this for the first time when the
4:41juvenile police came out to their homes
4:43and asked them to pay for the damage
4:44they had done. They paid the fee and
4:46didn't really do much about it
4:47otherwise. Victor and Alexander's
4:50parents forbade them from hanging out
4:51with Igor for a while when it was found
4:53out that it was his idea, but that
4:55didn't really last. In the end, it just
4:57wasn't the kind of mischief that was
4:58unheard of with a group of young boys.
5:00So, you're saying that technically it
5:02was preventable, but also wasn't
5:04preventable at the same time because
5:05everyone in the neighborhood did all
5:06this stuff with their group of friends.
5:08And so, nobody would have really bassed
5:09an eye or expected them to become the
5:11perpetrators of Three Guys, One Hammer.
5:12So, it's not their fault. Okay. It's not
5:13anyone's fault. Yeah. No, 100%. You
5:15probably could have seen this coming
5:16from a mile away. As the years went on,
5:18Igor and the other boy's interest in
5:20mischief grew much darker. This started
5:22by the three of them wanting to their
5:24fears to become stronger. Victor and
5:26Igor were both very afraid of heights.
5:28So, they decided to find a way to
5:29overcome that fear.
5:31>> They did so in one of the most dangerous
5:33ways that they could have. First, by
5:34standing near the edge of their 14th
5:36floor balcony for Wow. Oh my god, he
5:39stood near the edge of a balcony and
5:41looked down. Oh my god, he is so brave.
5:43He is so brave. Wow. I want to be just
5:45like him. I want to be just like him.
5:47>> And then by hanging off of the railing.
5:49>> Oh, okay.
5:49>> By sheer luck, neither of them ended up
5:51falling off and both of them felt like
5:53they had conquered their fear of
5:54heights.
5:55>> Yeah, they should accomplish the three
5:56of them. Alexander was the one who was
5:57the most squeamish. He couldn't stand
5:59the sight of blood at all. He was so
6:01afraid of any sort of physical violence
6:03that he wouldn't even bathe his cat in
6:05the fear that it might burn it if the
6:06water was too warm.
6:08>> Igor this time suggested that they all
6:10work together to conquer that fear by
6:11going out into the woods and killing
6:13animals. Oh, this was partially due to
6:15Igor's own selfish desires as well. He
6:18had gone from wanting to conquer his
6:19fears to wanting to overcome his mental
6:21block when it came to killing.
6:23>> Oh, okay. I mean, I feel like we should
6:26naturally have a mental block of killing
6:28for a reason so that we don't go and
6:29kill other people.
6:30>> The three of them started doing just
6:32that. They went after numerous cats and
6:34dogs in the woods on many different
6:36occasions, killing an untold number of
6:38them.
6:39>> Many of the times they would pose in
6:40photos with them. A lot of these photos
6:42were taken after they had strung up the
6:44animals on trees.
6:45>> Oh my god.
6:46>> Igor, having taken an interest in
6:47Nazism, used the blood of a dog to paint
6:49a swastika on at least one occasion.
6:51>> Oh my god.
6:52>> Sometimes he would even alter his own
6:54photos to include a small Hitler
6:55mustache.
6:56>> Oh my god.
6:56>> On at least one occasion, the boys
6:58recorded a very long video showing them
7:01torture and kill a white cat.
7:02>> Wo. When the three were in the eighth
7:04grade, Eigor Wait, this Wait, this is
7:06this is before 8th grade. Oh my god. Oh,
7:08this is even before 8th grade. Oh, Jesus
7:11Christ.
7:11>> When the three were in the eighth grade,
7:13Igor got into a lot of trouble at school
7:15when he brutally beat another kid who
7:17was said to have been younger than him.
7:19>> After that, the staff at the school made
7:20his parents transfer him into a
7:22different school, school number 143. His
7:25teacher later said, "Eiggor comes from a
7:27very wealthy family. His father is an
7:29aviator, his mother an employee of the
7:32district executive committee. He is
7:33their one and only dearly beloved son.
7:36Mom had an excuse for everything her son
7:38did. She always defended and justified
7:40him.
7:42>> At his new school, Igor's home room
7:44teacher reported that he was very
7:45unresponsive when questioned, often just
7:47ignoring his teachers. He sat alone most
7:50of the time and didn't interact with any
7:51other kids. When it came time for
7:53graduation, he didn't even show up for
7:55the ceremony. All the while, he
7:57continued hanging out with Victor and
7:58Alexander. Igor's behavior didn't
8:01improve at all. In fact, it only grew
8:03worse. While he had previously beaten a
8:05kid, he now wanted to both beat and rob
8:07someone.
8:08>> What? Okay. Why Why are we trying to
8:10level this up like it's GTA? This is not
8:12a achievement like a PlayStation
8:14achievement you can do. Like, yeah, I I
8:15killed an animal. Now, next achievement.
8:17Beat somebody up and rob them for 2,000
8:19extra points to increase your spot on
8:21the leaderboard. When he turned 17, he
8:23beat up a local kid and stole his
8:25bicycle, which he then turned and sold
8:26to Victor. Victor's father said, "Eiggor
8:29beat up a little boy on the street and
8:31took his bicycle, which he then sold to
8:33Victor for 100 hernia. When the police
8:35came to confiscate the bike, my son was
8:37in shock. He didn't know the bike was
8:39stolen. So, it turns out Igor had simply
8:41set him up. But to my great surprise,
8:43Victor forgave his friend.
8:45>> Wait, why would you do your own friend
8:47dirty like that? Wait, this is Bro, this
8:48is forboding. Igor is the type of guy to
8:50do his own friends dirty. He can't be
8:51trusted. He's going to do them dirty in
8:53the future. I guarantee.
8:54>> As we will come to find out, Victor's
8:56parents were always very forgiving of
8:58their son and never assumed he was
9:00capable of any wrongdoing.
9:01>> Yeah, he's literally even wearing a
9:03jacket that says forgiving. It says
9:04forgiveness.
9:06>> While we can't know for sure whether or
9:07not Victor actually knew the bike was
9:09stolen, it seems more likely that he
9:11knew given his already increasing level
9:13of criminal activity with Igor. After
9:15high school, the three young men had
9:17already taken different paths. Alexander
9:19seemed to have the most difficulty. At
9:21first, he took a number of odd jobs.
9:23Anything from being a pastry chef to
9:25working construction. However, all of
9:27those failed and he ended up being
9:29unemployed for quite a long time. Victor
9:32actually attended further schooling,
9:33either going to a metallergy institute
9:35part-time or taking communications
9:37courses depending on the source while he
9:39also worked as a security guard.
9:41>> Wait, he could literally be a model. He
9:42could literally be a supermodel with
9:44like that jawline. Have you seen his
9:46jawline? This is the guy with the
9:47jawline. He found difficulty working.
9:49Just become a model, right?
9:51>> Igor remained unemployed for quite a
9:52while, but eventually his parents helped
9:54him out. They bought him a car for his
9:56birthday, uh, Dau Lanos, to use as a
9:59taxi. While Igor was never licensed to
10:01be a taxi driver, he did end up making
10:03some money off the books this way. He
10:05would also use it for more nefarious
10:07purposes.
10:08>> Well, like moving.
10:09>> Sometime in 2006, Igor, Victor, and
10:11Alexander began picking up passengers in
10:14Igor's taxi with the purpose of taking
10:16them to a secluded area, robbing them.
10:18>> Alexander participated in a few of these
10:20robberies. However, when he saw the
10:22increasingly violent nature of Igor and
10:24Victor, he decided that he would stop
10:26helping them out.
10:26>> Yeah, good job. Good job. came to
10:27distance himself from the two of them
10:29for good, at least while they were
10:30committing crimes. After that,
10:32[clears throat]
10:32>> Igor and Victor, however, were nothing
10:34but emboldened by these attacks. In
10:37November 2006, they were walking around
10:39town. While sitting on a fence near a
10:41McDonald's, they noticed a drunk man
10:43nearby.
10:44>> They decided that he would be the
10:45perfect target to rob picked up a rock
10:48and said, "I'll kill him myself."
10:50>> Whoa. Where you meant to rob him? Don't
10:51kill him.
10:52>> He then hit the man over the head,
10:54causing him to lose consciousness.
10:55[music] He then told Victor he died. I
10:58felt his skull crack. This didn't deter
11:01either of them. They then went through
11:02his pockets searching for anything he
11:04might have. They took four Heria worth
11:07about 10 cents in the US and a couple of
11:09photographs he had on him. Oh my god.
11:11You unlived somebody just to rob him for
11:1310 cents. 10 cents. Wait. Somebody in
11:16charge just said the rock slipped. Yeah.
11:17Yeah. The I had the rock in my hand. I
11:19was holding it and I tripped over and
11:20the rock slipped out of my hand and it
11:21somehow made its way into the back of
11:23this guy's skull. It slipped. My hand
11:24slipped. Guys, trust me, the rock
11:26slipped out of my hands. It slipped out
11:27of my hands. The identity of the man
11:29they hit isn't known, but it seems he
11:31survived the attack. Still, Igor had
11:34fully convinced himself that he was now
11:35able to kill another human being. Oh my
11:37god.
11:37>> After all, he thought that he had.
11:40>> All of the boys were into computer games
11:42and often played online.
11:44Igor, in particular, had a pretty nice
11:46setup at his home for the time.
11:47>> Damn, that's an insane setup. Oh my god,
11:51this is Holy. This is probably top 10
11:53worst setups I've ever seen in my entire
11:55life. What is that monitor, bro? You can
11:56literally count the pixels on that
11:57monitor. And what is this keyboard? Look
11:59at this crusty, dusty, musty keyboard.
12:01>> With his parents wealth, he was able to
12:02get a pretty nice PC and plenty of
12:04games. He didn't stick to games,
12:06however, and often wandered the internet
12:08as well.
12:09>> It was that he got more into the shady
12:11side of things.
12:12>> Given his own interest, he began looking
12:14into gore and shock sites.
12:16>> It was on one of these sites that it is
12:18said that he came in contact with a
12:20suspicious user. This user told him that
12:22if he were able to produce some gory
12:24shock videos himself, he could be in for
12:26a very nice payday.
12:28>> At the time, Igor had a girlfriend. She
12:30later admitted that she could hear him
12:32and Victor talking together on
12:33occasions, muttering the words, "We'll
12:35be rich when we kill 40 people."
12:37>> Oh my god, bro. If you're dating
12:39somebody who says that and you hear it,
12:41you overhear it. Surely you report them
12:43and surely you leave. Guys, if you were
12:45dating a girl or if you're a girl and
12:47you're dating a guy and you hear that,
12:48would you leave and call the police?
12:51>> She had no idea what they were talking
12:52about at the time and didn't think that
12:54they were being serious. [clears throat]
12:55>> The two of them didn't need much more
12:57convincing. They had already been
12:59interested in killing both humans and
13:00animals by this point. While the offer
13:03of cash for murder videos sounded
13:04suspicious, it didn't take much
13:06convincing to get them to try it. Oh my
13:07god. This is when they passed the point
13:09of no return.
13:11>> Um, but who's paying for it?
13:16Oh my god. Oh my god. Some random person
13:18walking home. Oh, is this the three guys
13:20on hammer? Is this where it begins?
13:21>> Late in the night on June 25th, 2007,
13:24Igor and Victor decided they would take
13:25their first shot and their second. The
13:28first vulnerable person they came across
13:30was a 33-year-old woman named Yakatarina
13:33Ilchenko, who was walking home alone
13:35after having some tea at her friend's
13:36apartment.
13:37>> Oh my god. She had gotten most of the
13:38way home when Igor walked past her,
13:40quickly turned around, and hit her in
13:42the side of the head with a blunt
13:44object.
13:44>> Oh my god, that's insane. Why? Why? And
13:48now I don't feel safe walking home.
13:50>> This completely fractured Yakatarina's
13:52skull, and she collapsed to the ground.
13:54Despite having committed their first
13:56murder so quickly, Igor and Victor
13:58weren't satisfied. They continued to
14:00prowl the area, looking for more
14:02victims. Oh my god.
14:03>> Then they came across another person who
14:05seemed defenseless on Tatovich as he
14:07slept on a bench.
14:09>> Oh, but he was a secretly an MMA fighter
14:10and then he fought back and he unalived
14:12one of the three guys.
14:13>> They took the same blunt object and both
14:15bashed him over the head so many times
14:17that he was left completely
14:18unrecognizable.
14:20>> This actually took place across the
14:21street from the public prosecutor's
14:23office.
14:23>> Oh. Both of their bodies wouldn't be
14:25found until the next morning.
14:27Yakatarina's mother was the first one to
14:29find her after she went out searching
14:31for her at around 5:00 a.m. Oh my god.
14:33>> When speaking to the media, Yakatarina's
14:35grandmother couldn't hold back her tears
14:37while trying to describe her, shouting
14:38out, "She was smart. She graduated from
14:41two universities.
14:42>> Oh my god."
14:43>> Igor and Victor weren't content to stop
14:45there. It was only a few nights later on
14:47the 1st of July that they once again set
14:49out to find their next victims. Much
14:51like the first night, they killed two
14:53people in much the same manner. These
14:55were Yavghinia Gristchenko and Nikolai
14:58Search. Both of them were found murdered
15:00in the nearby town of Nooskosk.
15:03Killing two people each night was a bold
15:05choice and only made it much more likely
15:07that the two young men would get caught
15:08in the act. What? Wait, these people are
15:10alive two people every single day. Bro,
15:12I literally upload two videos every
15:14single day. Meanwhile, these people are
15:15unaliving two people every single day.
15:17We are not the same. What the hell?
15:19However, given how much they had gotten
15:20away with so far, they weren't deterred.
15:23In fact, it seems that the lack of a
15:25police investigation only made them feel
15:26invincible. On the night of the 6th of
15:29July, less than a week later, they went
15:31on to Guys, do you guys know what the
15:336th of July is in Australian dates? This
15:35is the 6th of July
15:3867
15:406.
15:42>> Okay, I'm sorry that was not funny. That
15:44that was completely inappropriate for
15:45this video.
15:46>> On the night of the 6th of July, less
15:48than a week later, they went on to kill
15:49three people. They murdered a man named
15:51Igor Nchaloda, an army recruit who had
15:54just recently been discharged as he
15:56walked home from a nightclub at 2:00
15:57a.m.
15:58>> Wait, how was this even happening? Every
15:59single night, it's at least two people
16:00getting unal alive by these two people
16:02and nothing's being happening. Like, no
16:03investigation.
16:04>> They hit him on the side of the head as
16:06he walked towards the front door of his
16:07apartment.
16:08>> Oh my god, didn't kill him and only
16:10knocked him to the ground. However, they
16:12continued to beat him and even cut his
16:13face up with pieces of metal.
16:15>> Oh my.
16:15>> Igor's mother was the one to find his
16:17body on the steps. His neighbor was
16:19awoken by a loud earpiercing scream at
16:224:00 a.m.
16:22>> But they went back to sleep and then
16:24they didn't report anything.
16:25>> When he walked outside to see what was
16:27happening, he saw her there. She was so
16:29distraught and frantic that he thought
16:31she was on drugs at the time. Then he
16:33saw the police arrive with a medical
16:35examiner to talk to her. Meanwhile, Igor
16:38and Victor were still looking for their
16:39next victim. When they came around the
16:41corner on Kosora Street, they came
16:43across a 28-year-old night guard named
16:45Yolena ShraMM.
16:46>> Wait, how do you even know this? How do
16:48we even know who exactly each victim was
16:50and when they walked around and
16:52everything?
16:52>> She had been feeling sick that night and
16:54asked her boss if she could go home
16:56early. As Yolena walked toward the two
16:58of them, Igor pulled out the hammer he
17:00had been concealing under his shirt and
17:01hit her over the head with it.
17:03>> When she fell to the ground, they hit
17:04her several more times, completely
17:06disfiguring her face.
17:08>> The bag that she was carrying spilled to
17:10the ground. Inside it, there were some
17:12clothes that the two of them used to
17:13clean off the hammer. They then threw
17:15the bag of clothes away in a different
17:17place. One local man had almost seen it
17:20all happen. He had heard a loud scream
17:22and as he was coming out of his house,
17:24suddenly Igor's car went speeding past
17:26him, almost hitting him. He had actually
17:29known Yolena personally, later saying,
17:31"Lena was such a smart girl. She left
17:33behind a 10-year-old son."
17:35>> Oh my god, it was a mother.
17:36>> And Victor still weren't done,
17:38>> bro. They're still not done. Look at
17:39this chapter. Look how long this chapter
17:40is. We're only not even halfway through
17:42the spree of murders by these two people
17:45with the hammer. Oh my god. Wait, but
17:46when does the third guy come in? Wait,
17:48this is horrible. What the hell?
17:49>> They then went and found another woman
17:51by herself, a mother of three with a
17:53disabled husband named Valentina.
17:55>> Oh my, bro. Why is it always women that
17:57they target?
17:58>> They killed her in very much the same
18:00manner as the other two. Throughout the
18:02whole early morning rampage, they never
18:04robbed any of their victims. One thing
18:06they did do was take the victim's shoes
18:08off and place them next to their bodies.
18:10Why are you a creep? This guy's a freak.
18:13He removes the shoes just so that he can
18:15see the feet. What the hell is wrong
18:16with these people? You unal alive
18:18somebody and then you reveal their feet.
18:19You like you unchath their feet. That is
18:22so weird.
18:23>> Seemingly trying to add a sort of serial
18:25killer signature to their crime.
18:27>> No, that is not any signature of a
18:29serial killer. You just want to sniff
18:31their feet. That is so weird. That is
18:33actually so weird. There's no way you're
18:34doing that as a way to add a signature.
18:36You You're just a freak. It appears that
18:38they later abandoned this idea.
18:40>> Yeah, because
18:41>> and Victor wouldn't even take a break
18:42for an entire day. The very next day on
18:45the 7th, they were back out on the prowl
18:47once more. They made their way over to
18:48the nearby town of Pedor. This time, it
18:51was here that they would come across
18:52their youngest victims so far, two
18:5514-year-old boys.
18:56>> They saw them fishing at a pond and
18:58rushed in to attack them. They managed
19:00to kill one of the boys Siduk, but the
19:03other, a boy named Vadim Yakov, was able
19:05to escape and run off into the woods.
19:07>> Oh my god.
19:08>> While you might think that he lucked
19:09out, he would soon come to meet a
19:11different dark fate. What?
19:13>> The police, seeing no link between this
19:14crime and the others, immediately
19:16accused Vadim of being the one who had
19:18killed his friend.
19:19>> No. Are you serious? He not only
19:21survives, but then he gets sent to
19:23prison for maximum security, like
19:24maximum life sentence, and falsely
19:26accused. What is the police system over
19:28there? They wonder why they got away
19:29with so many murders. Cuz they just they
19:31put the wrong person in.
19:32>> They wouldn't listen to his story or his
19:34description of the real killers.
19:36Instead, throwing him into cuffs and
19:37taking him in for questioning. Just
19:39after having his friend get murdered in
19:41front of his eyes, the police began to
19:43beat him severely in an attempt to get a
19:45confession out of him. God,
19:46>> they denied him legal counsel and at
19:48first wouldn't even allow his parents to
19:50see him. His mother would later say that
19:52he suffered just as much from the police
19:54as he would have suffered from the
19:55attacker. But the thing is the police
19:57would beat him so much that he would
19:59literally have to lie and say that he
20:00did kill them. Like that's what the
20:02police are trying to do. So the police
20:03don't feel so embarrassed that they
20:04can't catch the actual killer of the
20:06people. He suffered significant injuries
20:08to his kidneys after the beating. When
20:10his father tried to get him away from
20:12the police, they told him to go to hell.
20:14>> The mother said they wanted to lock
20:16Vadem up overnight so he'd remember
20:18something before morning. They only let
20:20him go after I threatened to go to the
20:21prosecutor's office. Vadim said he fell
20:24asleep in the police car a couple of
20:26times and the officer poked him hard on
20:27the side to wake him up. During
20:29interrogation, they hit him in the
20:31kidneys and threatened to send him to
20:32the Pavlo Grand Juvenile Detention
20:34Center if he didn't tell the truth,
20:36swearing at him. Only when the police
20:38began to connect the dots and realize
20:40that they likely had a serial killer on
20:42their hands did they finally relent on
20:43their treatment of him. Only then did
20:45they listen to his story and cooperate
20:47him to create some composite sketches of
20:49the real killers. Meanwhile, Igor and
20:52Victor were walking free. 2 days later,
20:54they decided to go on a walk together.
20:56They went to the town of Peschanka and
20:58killed another man who hasn't been
20:59named.
21:00>> Bro, why are we just mentioning this so
21:02casually? As if it's like they they go
21:04to a post office and deposit a letter.
21:06They just send a letter from post
21:08office. Dude, you're saying it as
21:09casually as that.
21:10>> Still, they wanted more. The next day,
21:13on the 10th, Victor took his girlfriend
21:15Rita to her grandmother's house in a
21:16different city. Afterward, he met up
21:18with Igor once again. The two decided to
21:21find another person to kill. By now, it
21:23was so routine and affected them so
21:25little that Victor continued to text his
21:27girlfriend throughout their drive as if
21:29everything was normal.
21:30>> Guys, massive disclaimer. This is
21:31insanely illegal and extremely
21:33dangerous. Never text while driving.
21:35That's so stupid.
21:36>> To text his girlfriend throughout their
21:38drive as if everything was normal. They
21:40drove around for an hour but didn't find
21:41any targets they found acceptable.
21:43>> Oh, what do you mean acceptable? What
21:44What are the requirements of a target
21:46that you're going to own alive? Well,
21:47they have to be a woman. They have to be
21:49kind of oldish and they need to be alone
21:51and it needs to be night time.
21:52>> Victor later admitted that they came
21:54across a woman that fit the bill, but
21:56she had a stroller with her, making him
21:58feel pity for her.
21:59>> I'm pretty sure some of the other people
22:01you own alive had children. Like, did
22:02you not consider that?
22:04>> However, afterward, they came across a
22:05man riding a bike and killed him
22:07instead.
22:08>> What?
22:08>> It was 2 days later on July 12th that
22:10their most infamous murder would come to
22:12take place. One that would later shock
22:14anyone who came to hear about it. A
22:1648-year-old man named Sergey Yatsenko
22:19had recently become disabled after a
22:21bout with throat cancer, leaving him
22:22unable to speak well. This had forced
22:25him into retirement, leaving him feeling
22:27unhappy and unfulfilled. To make more
22:29use of his time, he started taking odd
22:31jobs around his village wherever he
22:33could. He would work construction here
22:35and there, fix cars, cook, take care of
22:37his disabled mother, and even make
22:39baskets. Over time, he gradually began
22:42to get his voice back. He was supported
22:44by his wife, two sons, and one
22:46grandchild. At 2:30 p.m. on the 12th, he
22:49called his wife to say that he was going
22:50to put gas into his motorcycle and visit
22:52their grandchild. He then left the
22:55house. Meanwhile, Igor and Victor were
22:57hanging out on that very road, waiting
22:59for a victim. They set up a camera and
23:01lounged around for a while, watching his
23:03cars pass with no vulnerable lone
23:05potential victim in sight. As they
23:08prepared, Igor put his hammer into a
23:10yellow shopping bag. While they were
23:12filming, Sergey approached on his bike.
23:14Igor ran up and hit him on the side of
23:16the head with the hammer, causing him to
23:18fall to the ground. They then dragged
23:20him to an area with more foliage before
23:22pulling out a screwdriver and stabbing
23:24him repeatedly all over his chest and
23:25torso. As the man struggled to breathe,
23:28they continued to hit and stab him as
23:30they recorded.
23:31>> Eventually, they left him there to die.
23:33They ran back to the car and Igor pulled
23:35out a large bottle of water. He washed
23:38his hair, face, and hands vigorously. He
23:40cleaned off the weapon as well.
23:42>> Oh my god.
23:43>> That the recording ended and the two
23:44fled the scene. The two took their
23:46victim's phone with them and turned it
23:48off at around 6:00 p.m. Bro, what do you
23:50mean? You've just filmed yourself and
23:52your face committing this crime. I don't
23:54think their phone is going to make a
23:55difference as to whether you're going to
23:56be caught or not. That's insane. Wait,
23:58this Wait, this would this actually
23:59happened in real life and this was a
24:01video that people have seen. You know
24:02what? I have a friend who used to be
24:04into like gore and stuff. I wonder
24:06whether he's watched it. I definitely
24:07have not watched this and I do not
24:08intend on watching this in the future
24:10ever.
24:10>> Sergey's wife called a friend and they
24:12looked around the village together to
24:13try to find him. Worried that he had
24:15gotten sick or that he had gotten into
24:17an accident. After a long search, they
24:19couldn't find any sign of him. They went
24:21to the police, but they refused to let
24:23them file a missing person's report as
24:25he was an adult male and hadn't been
24:26gone that long. Instead, Sergey's wife
24:29began to print out missing posters of
24:31him and placed them around the
24:32neighborhood. It wasn't until several
24:34days later that a local reported that he
24:36had seen the same type of bike Sergey
24:38owned abandoned in a remote wooded area.
24:40He took Sergey's wife out to the scene
24:42and showed her where it was. After
24:44looking for longer, they found Sergey's
24:47badly mutilated body.
24:48>> No, the wife discovers the body. Oh my
24:50god.
24:51>> Only made worse by the summer heat.
24:54>> It was on the 14th of July that victor
24:56came across their next victim, a
24:5845-year-old woman named Natalia Mamchuk.
25:01As she was going through a wooded area
25:02on her scooter, the two young men rushed
25:04up to her and beat her to death with a
25:06blunt object. They then took her scooter
25:08and drove away with it. A few locals had
25:11seen it and tried to chase him down, but
25:13eventually lost sight of them as they
25:14drove off into the distance. Little did
25:16Igor and Victor know, but two boys had
25:19been playing in a makeshift fort nearby
25:21and had seen the whole thing happen.
25:22They were able to give a description of
25:24the attackers that was very similar to
25:26the sketches that had been made
25:27previously. By this point, the manhunt
25:30to track down the two men was growing
25:31more and more grand in scale.
25:33Eventually, over 2,000 investigators
25:35were working on the case in some
25:37capacity. Bro, 2,000 people just to find
25:39a bunch of two dudes with a hammer. It's
25:41not like they have a gun or anything. No
25:42offense, but if I was on that
25:43investigation team, I would be like, L
25:45from Death Note, and I would 100% find
25:47them within 5 minutes.
25:48>> Were working on the case in some
25:50capacity. The effort was largely kept a
25:52secret, and they refused to release any
25:54information about the murders to the
25:55locals. This included failing to warn
25:58them about the danger. Still, enough
26:00rumors had spread about the attacks that
26:02many people in the local area began
26:04staying home at night. When word got
26:06around that some of the stolen
26:07possessions of a few of the victims had
26:09turned up at pawn shops, the
26:10investigators began to turn their focus
26:12there.
26:13>> Yeah, you can try.
26:13>> At one point, Igor and Victor came
26:15across another potential victim, a
26:1770-year-old woman named Lydia
26:19Mcrenisesa. She noticed as they followed
26:21her through a grove taking photos. She
26:24wasn't too concerned, assuming that they
26:26were surveying a local plot of land in
26:27order to sell it. She never felt that
26:29she was in any danger. However, they
26:31continued following her until they
26:33reached an area where no witnesses were
26:35nearby.
26:36>> All while recording, they rushed her and
26:38hit her over the back of the head. She
26:40lost consciousness and fell to her back
26:41on the ground.
26:42>> Oh my god.
26:43>> They continued to kick her in the face
26:44with their boots. Luckily, she had a few
26:46dogs nearby that noticed what was
26:48happening and began barking loudly. This
26:50scared Igor and Victor off before they
26:52could finish her off.
26:53>> She ended up having bruises all over for
26:55months. Her jaw was shattered and her
26:58face had to be reconstructed with
26:59prosthetics.
27:00>> The details of Igor and Victor's next
27:02victims aren't quite known. What is
27:05known is that they went on to kill nine
27:07more people in much the same manner as
27:08the others.
27:09>> Wait, but then what's the total count?
27:10That's like over 20, right? That's
27:12insane.
27:13>> However, they only got more cruel as
27:15time went on. They became much more
27:17interested in the mutilation aspect of
27:19the crimes. Some of the victims had
27:21their eyes gouged out while they were
27:23still alive.
27:24>> Oh my god.
27:24>> Others were tortured in other ways.
27:27>> Finally, their grotesque acts with the
27:29murder of a pregnant woman.
27:30>> After they were
27:31>> Wait, you're saying you feel sorry
27:32[music] for somebody who has walking a
27:34stroller with a baby in it, but you
27:35don't feel sorry about murdering a
27:37pregnant woman? What is wrong with you?
27:38What? What is What is this like morality
27:40scaling?
27:40>> After they were finished with her, they
27:42filmed themselves cutting out her unborn
27:44baby as well.
27:45>> Oh my god. Why would you do that? Oh my
27:47god. What is wrong with these people? Wa
27:49wa. Okay, I'm not going to lie. I did
27:50not expect this from this video. What
27:52the hell?
27:53>> Most of the victims were left completely
27:54unrecognizable by the end of their
27:56brutality. While they didn't rob the
27:59majority of the victims, they did steal
28:01particularly pricey looking items from
28:03some of them like jewelry or cell
28:04phones.
28:05>> What if they were like fake though? Like
28:06what do you mean expensive looking
28:07items? Like what if they were just fake
28:09pearls, fake watch, fake cell phone, and
28:11they've done all this for nothing? With
28:12the police now knowing that they were
28:14pawning these things off at a few local
28:16shops, all they had to do was wait.
28:18>> Nice. Good strut. [music]
28:23Come on. Come on. Come on. [music]
28:26>> When's it going to come in?
28:29As Igor and Victor continued to sell the
28:31stolen phones and other personal items
28:33off at thrift stores, it was inevitable
28:35that they would come to be caught.
28:36>> Yeah. The police had already distributed
28:38their sketches to all of the local pawn
28:40shops in the area, especially the ones
28:42that they were known to have used
28:43already. As they turned up to one of the
28:45pawn shops, the owner made them turn on
28:47the phone that they were selling in
28:48order to prove that it worked.
28:50>> As soon as the phone came on, it pinged
28:52a local tower. That's what the police
28:54were waiting for.
28:55>> The police were able to track Igor and
28:57Victor down soon after they left the
28:59shop. Igor was arrested while he was
29:01walking down the street. Victor, who was
29:03returning to work, was caught shortly
29:04after as well. Nice.
29:06>> They learned that Alexander was a part
29:07of the crimes, too. He was at home, but
29:09they caught him not too long after.
29:11>> Wait, what did this guy do? This guy was
29:12not doing anything like Wait, at the
29:14start, he was doing like the uh killing
29:16the animals, but was he part of the
29:18stuff? I swear it was only the two dudes
29:19walking around, right?
29:20>> Igor's parents, fearing the worst, took
29:22a bunch of his items and attempted to
29:24flush them down the toilet. When the
29:26police arrived, the pipes were clogged
29:28and the toilet was overflowing. It was
29:30pretty obvious what they had done. They
29:32called a plumber who was able to remove
29:34the cell phones, watches, and jewelry
29:36that were lodged inside.
29:37>> My god, you've just put everything in
29:39the one place for the people, the
29:41investigators to find it.
29:42>> While the cell phones were rendered
29:44destroyed, the boys had already made
29:45backups of their photos and videos on
29:47the computer. When their personal cell
29:49phones and computers were searched, the
29:51police came across all of the grizzly
29:53evidence that they had themselves. The
29:56police were shocked to find through the
29:57photos that Igor and Victor had actually
29:59attended the funerals of many of their
30:01victims. Oh my god. Why would you Oh,
30:04that is so creepy. That is so creepy.
30:06I'm not livinging somebody and attending
30:07their own funeral when they have no idea
30:09like what ended their lives. That is so
30:11weird. That is so creepy. How does this
30:13happen? How does a human like human mind
30:15become like this?
30:16>> They were seen on camera smiling and
30:18flipping off their coffins and
30:19gravestones. They came across all of
30:22their previous evidence of animal abuse
30:23as well. In custody, Alexander, despite
30:27not being a part of the murders, ended
30:29up getting the worst treatment. He was
30:30beaten pretty severely and left with
30:32bruising all over his face. Eventually,
30:35he confessed to everything he knew about
30:36the other two and his previous robberies
30:38with them.
30:39>> Victor was pretty quick to confess as
30:41well, skipping the beating portion
30:43himself. In his interview with the
30:45police, he admitted to quite a bit,
30:47although he flip-flopped back and forth.
30:49Initially, he was asked who used the
30:50hammer in the crimes. He responded that
30:53it was Igor. He then admitted to the
30:55both of them using hammers on various
30:57victims.
30:58>> However, he then quietly muttered,
30:59"Nobody hit them."
31:01>> Oh.
31:01>> He was asked how many he killed in
31:03total. To which he responded that he
31:04didn't know. The police didn't believe
31:06him, saying, "We both know you were
31:08counting them. How many?"
31:10>> Oh.
31:10>> Victor immediately relented and
31:12responded, "How many?
31:13>> Yes, we counted them. There are about 19
31:15victims."
31:16>> Oh my god. 19 deaths. That's insane.
31:19>> He admitted that they had mainly used
31:21hammers, but also lead pipes as well.
31:23>> Eventually, the police asked him what
31:25the motive in the crime was.
31:26>> Yeah. What was it?
31:27>> He responded unwilling to take any blame
31:29by saying, "Eiggore? I don't know. He
31:31killed for the sake of killing."
31:33>> Why? So, you just throwing your [music]
31:34friend under the bus. It's all his
31:36fault. It's all Eagle. So, what's the
31:37motive? Oh, we just did it for Eagle.
31:39Eagle would just wanted to unlife people
31:40and stuff.
31:41>> The cop once again asked him the same
31:43question more sternly, to which Victor
31:45finally responded, "For money. The
31:48investigators weren't to believe this
31:50reasoning. They pointed out that most of
31:52the victims weren't robbed and a lot of
31:53the valuables had been left behind.
31:57The minister of internal affairs of
31:59Ukraine said it all seemed like a joke
32:01or some kind of hunt. Victor's parents
32:04were already completely unwilling to
32:05believe that their son had been a part
32:07of the crime, even with a good amount of
32:09photo and video evidence. His mother
32:11said, "The investigator said the police
32:13had seized footage of the massacre of a
32:15pregnant woman. They first killed her,
32:17then ripped open her stomach and killed
32:19the baby.
32:20>> Yeah. How are we going to explain this?
32:21So, the motive is money. So, if the
32:23motive is money, then why would you
32:24unalive a pregnant woman and rip out the
32:26baby as well? Are you going to sell the
32:27baby? You can't put it up for adoption
32:29when it hasn't even been born yet. What
32:30the hell? There's no way you can argue
32:32that the motive was money when you've
32:33gone ahead and unalived the pregnant
32:35person and ripped out the baby. I can't
32:38believe my son is capable of such a
32:39terrible crime. Finally, only after the
32:42killers were caught, the police met with
32:44journalists for a press conference. The
32:46head of the regional police department
32:48spoke out about the suspects. But even
32:50here, he made a large mistake. He said
32:52that they were all the children of
32:53high-ranking officials. While Igor had
32:56wealthy parents, they weren't officials.
32:58Victor's parents worked in
32:59communications at a factory. Alexander's
33:02father was dead. It's unknown where he
33:04had gotten this information. The local
33:06media had no reason to doubt the head of
33:08the police and decided to report all of
33:10this as fact.
33:11>> Igor and Victor were charged in 29
33:13different incidents in total. This came
33:16down to murders, attempted murders,
33:18animal cruelty, and robbery. Alexander
33:20was hit with two counts of armed robbery
33:22himself, given that he had stopped
33:24participating once the other two turned
33:26more violent. Just before their trials
33:28were set to begin, Igor suddenly
33:30withdrew his confession, hoping for an
33:32insanity plea. The other two decided to
33:34plead guilty to all of the charges.
33:39Um, no way you can get away with the
33:41insanity plea. Actually, what even does
33:44that require? I mean, yes, they are like
33:46there's something wrong with them, but
33:47no way they are insane and that made
33:49them do it, right? Like they they chose
33:50to do it, right?
33:55Somebody said, "What is that hairline?"
33:57Yeah, I'm not going to lie. I noticed
33:58[music] it as well. It kind of looks
33:59like, you know, the devil emoji. It kind
34:01of looks like he has devil horns like
34:02this. Licky.
34:03>> When their trial began, the judge
34:04started by hearing witnesses and
34:06veterinarians speak on the animal abuse
34:08charges. The vet clinic's chief
34:10physician admitted that the videos were
34:12so horrible that he could only watch
34:13them with the sound off, given that the
34:15cries of pain were far too intense. He
34:18was able to confirm without a shadow of
34:20a doubt the cruelty that happened to
34:22those animals. It was also important
34:24early on to examine whether or not the
34:26three defendants were sane at the time
34:27of the crimes. All three of them spent
34:29two weeks in the regional psychiatric
34:31hospital being evaluated. All of the
34:34experts involved unanimously concluded
34:36that they were sane. Afterward, Victor's
34:38lawyer dropped out, realizing that this
34:40case was far beyond winning.
34:42>> Exactly.
34:42>> The experts stated that during the
34:44evaluation, Igor and Alexander once
34:46again confessed. However, they said,
34:49quote, only Victor Sienko denied
34:51involvement in the murders, shifting the
34:53blame to Igor Sopranuk. He said he
34:56merely helped him undress and rob the
34:57victims. What
34:58>> Igor Sopranuk, however, explained his
35:00crimes as a way to earn money.
35:02>> Yeah, so conflicting.
35:03>> While the three were given
35:04court-appointed lawyers, eventually
35:05Victor decided to be represented by his
35:07father with his family having no faith
35:09in their lawyer, who had only recently
35:11graduated from law school.
35:12>> Oh my god. Yeah, you're cooked. Your
35:14lawyer has only recently graduated.
35:15You're cooked. You are actually cooked.
35:17>> They thought that Victor's father, who
35:18never attended law school at all, would
35:20be a better fit. This caused the trial
35:22to Wayne. your you [music] replaced your
35:24lawyer with your own father who has no
35:26experience in law. Congratulations. You
35:28you you are even more cooked than you
35:30were before. This caused the trial to be
35:32delayed for quite some time given that
35:34he had to familiarize himself with the
35:36evidence. Alexander's attorney simply
35:38pointed out that he had never been
35:40involved with the murders and had only
35:41participated in two robberies before the
35:43crimes turned deadly. Jerger made it
35:46even easier on himself by admitting to
35:47that, hoping to get some leniency.
35:50Victor and his father continued to blame
35:52everything on Igor while Igor himself
35:54remained mostly silent. As a result,
35:56Igor turned on Victor as well, saying,
35:59"I didn't participate and I didn't
36:00commit any crimes. Syeno is
36:02incriminating me." Igor, when presented
36:05with undeniable evidence that he had
36:07participated in the crimes, gave answers
36:09that only infuriated the gallery.
36:11>> Bro, you know what? The answers that
36:13already infuriated the gallery. Bro, I'm
36:15not going to lie, no offense, but your
36:16hairline infuriates me. Just shave the
36:18whole thing off, bro. You've got It's
36:19got to go blood. It It's gone. It's long
36:21gone.
36:21>> When asked about one victim, Yolena
36:23ShraMM, he said, "I thought she was
36:25alive since I tried not to kill her, but
36:28to stun her, but it didn't work."
36:29>> Um, bro, that's not a good
36:31>> further made claims of illegal search
36:33and seizures when it came to the
36:34evidence, improperly kept records, and
36:36issues with their questioning. When it
36:38came to the video evidence, they simply
36:40denied that their clients were the
36:42people in the video. Against all logic,
36:44Victor's father made the bizarre claim
36:46that he had talked to an escaped victim
36:48who wanted to keep his identity a
36:50secret, who said that the suspects in
36:52the attack were two completely different
36:53people. He said that the police had
36:55secretly detained them and released them
36:57an hour later after pressure from their
36:59parents. He then said that the police
37:00had caught another woman who had
37:02committed at least one of the murders,
37:03but had no information as to who she
37:05was. He said that the whole thing was
37:07just a cover up. Despite saying that
37:10Victor hadn't done anything, he argued
37:11that his son was psychologically
37:13dependent on Igor, calling him the ring
37:15leader. He said that he had threatened
37:17Victor in the past and that he feared
37:18for his own life ever since the seventh
37:20grade.
37:21>> What is prosecution didn't even attempt
37:23to explain the motive in the killings.
37:25While the killers claimed that they
37:26would have made money from the recorded
37:28videos, there was never any evidence
37:29that they actually did.
37:31>> Oh my god. So all this was for nothing.
37:32So, it all started because somebody
37:34promised them that they'd make money if
37:35they recorded these videos. And in the
37:37end, they didn't even earn a single
37:38scent. Still, a classmate testified that
37:41they had been in touch with a rich
37:42foreign website operator, and Victor's
37:44girlfriend told the court about their
37:45comments regarding killing 40 people.
37:48However, the regional security chief
37:49rejected these claims, saying that there
37:51was no actual evidence of any of it. It
37:53was pointed out that they acted more
37:55like the average serial killers,
37:56collecting little momentos of their
37:58crimes. It was revealed that
38:00>> Elevens, I want pizza. Should I get
38:02some? Bro, wrong moment. Okay, wrong.
38:05There's a time and place, but that is
38:06not the time and place to ask if you
38:08should get pizza.
38:09>> Igor had collected newspaper clippings
38:11of the murders himself. They had added
38:13some captions to some of their photos
38:15that contained texts like, "The weak
38:17must die, the strong conquer."
38:19>> What?
38:19>> Some of their friends even claimed that
38:21they were told they filmed their crime
38:22simply to keep as a memory of what they
38:24had done.
38:24>> What do you mean a memory? On October
38:2629th, 2008, it was finally time for the
38:28video and photo evidence to be shown in
38:30court. While Victor's father had made a
38:32bit of progress on convincing the
38:34victim's families that there may have
38:35been a cover up, this blew all of that
38:37out of the water. The police had
38:39collected 39 volumes of photos and 19
38:42different videos showing the crime
38:43scenes.
38:44>> Several of the videos and many of the
38:46photos were recorded by Igor and Victor
38:48themselves. There was no longer a shadow
38:51of a doubt as to their guilt. Given the
38:53nature of the photos in the videos, four
38:55ambulances were on standby outside the
38:58courthouse. It was assumed that some
39:00would faint, some would vomit, and
39:02others might even have heart attacks.
39:04Many people did come to vomit, some
39:06suffered from severe headaches, and many
39:08left the room sobbing. Wait, did they
39:09Wait, I I zoned out for a second. Did
39:11they show the evidence to everybody? Why
39:13would everybody line up to watch it as
39:15if it's like the Odyssey or like
39:16Spider-Man: Brand New Day or something?
39:18That's insane. No way I knew that there
39:19was going to be some like horrific gore
39:21evidence being shown to me. I wouldn't
39:22even show up to that thing.
39:23>> The judge asked the two killers if they
39:25recognized the people in the photos.
39:27They said that they didn't, causing the
39:29judge to shout out, "You were not
39:31blind." An expert on film and video
39:34editing was brought in to testify as to
39:36whether or not the video was edited. He
39:38explained that it wasn't. He added that
39:40back at the time the murders took place,
39:42it would have been unfathomably
39:43expensive to edit such fakes, especially
39:46given that their most infamous video was
39:48nearly 30 minutes long in total. He
39:50said, "In Ukraine, there's little
39:52equipment to create such a real movie,
39:54[music] and even in America, such a
39:57required at least 6 months and about
39:59$10,000 per 10 seconds."
40:00>> Oh, wow.
40:02>> Still, the boy's parents continued to
40:04insist that the videos and photos were
40:06fake.
40:07>> Victor's father had said that they left
40:08a large album of photos of themselves on
40:10the internet, which someone else was
40:12able to gain access to and use to forge
40:14the video.
40:14>> Oh my god, bro. [music] It's not 2026.
40:16They did not use your images as
40:18reference images for AI. Your son did
40:21commit a crime. Just let it go. Accept
40:22it.
40:23>> He fully believes him. Igor's parents
40:26similarly have used Photoshop to edit
40:28one photo of their son to change his
40:29location. They use this to claim that
40:32all of the evidence, including the
40:33videos, is
40:34>> fabricated. Oh my god, bro. What? Who
40:36even is this? Where his eyes gone? So,
40:38you've photoshopped this to make it look
40:40like he's somewhere else. Okay, we've
40:41lost the plot. The plot has been lost.
40:43With all of the evidence on hand, the
40:45prosecution asked for Igor and Victor to
40:47receive life in prison, given that the
40:48death penalty had been abolished in
40:50Ukraine, they recommended that Alexander
40:53get 15 years of hard labor for his part.
40:55[music] Things were made even worse when
40:57someone involved in the case decided to
40:59leak Igor and Victor's most infamous
41:01video to the internet on December 4th,
41:032008, just 2 months after it was seen in
41:05court. It was leaked to a website called
41:08the YNC, who posted it up pretty
41:10quickly. They released an 8-minute
41:12snippet of the 30inute long video
41:14titling it three guys one hammer. It
41:16became one of the most viewed videos on
41:18their website shortly after being viewed
41:20about half a million times at a time
41:22when the internet was much younger. More
41:24than 300 people left comments as well.
41:27The adviser to the minister of internal
41:29affairs commented on the leak.
41:30>> What? Oh, okay. Wait, he Oh, he
41:33commented about the leak. He didn't
41:34comment on the video. I was going to say
41:36like bro the administer like the advisor
41:38on the government commented on the video
41:39and he smashed that subscribe button as
41:41well [music] on the video. Okay, he
41:42didn't do that. Okay, relax. He did not
41:44do that. It's practically impossible to
41:46control such videos online. While media
41:48outlets like newspaper and TV channels
41:51have licenses and can be controlled in
41:53Ukraine there's no law that can punish
41:54people. It would be a few more months
41:57before the three young men would finally
41:58learn their fate. The sentencing in the
42:01case took place on February 11th, 2009.
42:04Both Igor and Victor were sentenced to
42:06life in prison for what they had done.
42:08>> They also received an extra 15 years for
42:10the robbery and animal cruelty charges.
42:12>> Okay, good.
42:13>> Alexander was found guilty of robbery
42:15alone and was sentenced to 9 years in
42:17prison.
42:18>> Alexander said at the sentencing, "If I
42:20had known the atrocities that they were
42:22capable of committing, I would have not
42:23gone near them at gunpoint."
42:25>> Yeah.
42:25>> Both Igor's lawyers and Victor's family
42:28announced that they would appeal the
42:29case, still saying that the videos and
42:31photos were faked. However, the lawyer
42:33for one of the victim's families pointed
42:35out that this was ridiculous to still be
42:37claiming, saying, [music] "In theory, a
42:39photo can be faked, but to fake a
42:4140-minute video would require a studio
42:43in a whole year." And why would somebody
42:46do that? Like, to frame your son of
42:48doing a crime that was committed by
42:49somebody else.
42:50>> In August that year, the Supreme Court
42:52moved the case back to a regional court
42:54for the appeal. However, the prosecutors
42:56were confident that the appeal would go
42:58nowhere. Still, Igor and Victor were
43:00optimistic. Igor said that he was even
43:02considering setting up a website with
43:04information about the case to prove that
43:06he was innocent. However, all of their
43:08hopes were dashed in November when the
43:10courts decided without difficulty to
43:12uphold their life sentences.
43:14>> With that, their fate was sealed.
43:16>> Okay, now that is insane. Okay, you know
43:18what? I don't even want to have a look
43:19at this other thing. There's another
43:21thing called legacy and aftermath. I
43:22don't even want to learn about the
43:24legacy of it. Bro, there should not be
43:26any legacy behind these guys. If anybody
43:28worships these guys, you guys are
43:30actually crazy. Like genuinely
43:31psychotic. Freak these guys. Honestly,
43:33freak these guys. I did not know that
43:34this was going to be so bad. Like so
43:35dark. I thought three guys one hammer
43:37was something else. What the hell? I
43:38just got baited into watching this
43:39thing. That's actually insane. Now my
43:40entire day is ruined. My day is ruined.
43:43[screaming]
